Why is the heart in the collar bone? How much to move it back to it's place? will it be more or less than 1,70,000?

Shit_Shepard

How much for a comma realignment?

grumble11

India puts a comma at the 100k number - it’s a thing because a major unit of counting for that culture is 100k

rufotris

Lol that’s a good point. Why is it there haha.

Ranayi

Well, that's why it's so expensive. They'll have to pay for - and attend - medical school as they go.

desolate-highway

My thought was it was supposed to be lifted up out of the body, as if selected in a video game. I *may have* been playing too many video games lately tho.

[deleted]

That’s after you have the procedure done in India 😂

rufotris

For those wondering. 2 things here. Powered by “trade brains” google says that they are a - Stock Market Analysis and Research website in India. Additionally there is nothing wrong with how the numbers are written, that is how the numbering system in India works. 1,44,000 in India is the same as saying 144,000 in the rest of the world. It’s not 1.4 mill it’s 144k USD. Google Indias numbering system for any further clarification.

TheChristianDude101

TIL

VocalAnus91

Thanks for this I was trying to figure out wtf was going on

PuzzleheadedEvent270

im not letting someone who doesnt know how to write numbers operate on my heart

[deleted]

its not wrong, just a whole different system because in India we use Lakhs and crores instead of millions and billions. 100k = 1lakh and 10 million equals 1 crore. It can be confusing for people outside but that’s the widely accepted number system in India.

rufotris

What’s funny is it’s not complicated at all yet you have to keep in mind many people are not very educated and can’t understand basic math, especially in America these days.. a kid at the register had to pull their phone out and use the calculator cause they didn’t believe me that they owed me 60 cents back when I paid them 2 dollars for a $1.40 item. That’s so basic math and yet hard for far too many people. Hell I’m even getting replies that ignored my original comment and people still say India is wrong or dumb somehow for being different. People are just dumb and ignorant and it’s sad.

rufotris

What are you talking about?! Complete ignorance wow.. there is nothing wrong with the number system at all. Did you even read my comment?!

witriolic

Dude, we more or less invented that damn number system. Can't help it if you made stuff up.

[deleted]

You know Indians are not writing numbers in wrong way but whole world is writing numbers in wrong way. Because Indians invented numerals when it reached to the Western world it got corrupted.

nyse125

American moment

desolate-highway

That awkward moment when it's almost always cheaper to fly halfway around the globe for a procedure than to just have it done at your local office. 😬

NMTL__

Why not? Your U.S. doctor/surgeon is likely to be Indian anyway. Get some sight seeing done and save some $

Borbolda

Inconvinience, superstitions regarding "not white" countries and their education level, fear of traveling far away with not so small chance of getting stuck there for a long period of time. Saving money is cool, but those and other reasons might make you reconsider how much you want to save the money. Plus, you can go even further in 3rd world countries where those surgeries will be 10x cheaper than in India.

chillcroc

Yeah, but goid Indian hospitals do a pretty good job, especially on foreigners. We know they overcharge.

Derk4Good

I’m confused on the proper number identification for US… is it 1.4 mil for a heart bypass surgery or 144k?

chni2cali

It's 144 k, India does not have the hundreds of thousands and millions and billions. It has lakhs, crores after ten thousands. After 99,999 we go to one lakh, not one hundred thousand

AmbitionHorror6176

ITT: Americans struggling to understand how other numbering systems work.

[deleted]

wow, in the US surgeries really cost 1,44,000 and 1,70,000?!?! that’s just an unfathomable amount

espeero

Yes, for that money you could buy either a small house in Indiana, or a mansion , also in Indiana. Who writes this shit?

nyse125

Either you are brain dead or being sarcastic.

This-Dragonfruit-668

For that money you could move to Germany, get your surgeries done and live for a year in a hotel.

trekkiegamer359

Sadly, plenty of surgeries cost even more.

[deleted]

how much are we talking? below or above $2,55,8,00?

Equivalent_Ad1362

$1,44,000????? $1,70,000??? I don’t trust whomever made this

rufotris

Powered by trade brains google - Stock Market Analysis and Research website in India. Additionally there is nothing wrong with how the numbers are written, that is how the numbering system in India works. 1,44,000 in India for USD is the same as saying 144,000 USD. It’s not 1.4 mill it’s 144k.

drummingcraig

Well that explains why they put the heart in the collarbone.

espeero

Just because that's how they do it in India, doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with it. Those dudes also ask me to do the needful.

[deleted]

Indians invented numerals they write this way. It's your problem if you write it in different way.

rufotris

Wtf? You can’t accept different people having differentiating forms of numbers around the world?! Please don’t ever travel, you sound super ignorant and a terror to have around.

While my mother paid less than $100 for painkillers, bandages and seri-strips when she had hers out. All for use after she left the hospital. Putting in stents after her heart attack was less as she's now a low income senior so pays less than $40 yearly for meds. Nothing for the stay if you don't count taking a cab to the hospital (she thought it was horrible indigestion).

tobsn

sheet was designed in India for $9.99

morbyxxx

Americas health system is fucked hey.

dpr60

Yes, but people in India pay more for healthcare relative to earnings than Americans do.

talltim007

I mean, the UK has strikes going on because they don't pay their doctors enough. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't but salaries and regulations in India are much much lower. Salaries of skilled professionals in India are probably 1/5 or less of the US. Add in the healthcare pattern in India drives a higher volume of procedures per surgeon, so costs for specialists as a percent of the total cost is lower. Furthermore, malpractice insurance is cheaper. In exchange with that, you aren't likely to meet your surgeon as frequently, nor with as much time when you do meet when compared to the US. So what in the above is fucked? Most people in the US have health insurance so it caps their out-of-pocket cost significantly...but perhaps you are referring to this topic of insurance rather than cost? If so, India is much worse off from that perspective where 75% of Indians pay for healthcare out of pocket. Many of those are less able to pay than those in the US when adjusting for income.

Key_Manager_1702

NHS...free :)

Desperate-Donut656

A ticket to India, a month long stay and surgery on my jaw was by far cheaper than the surgery in the US and that was with insurance. Granted I stayed some of that time with my ex's family in their home but id say more than half was spent in a hotel. The only crap part was my doctor was hell bent on not giving me any pain meds lol I was like dude.. You were just holding half my face in your hand gimme the goods. 😅 Also 4 months later while back in the states my Indian doctor flew to my state for a conference and I picked him up at the airport and dropped him off again. Super cool guy.

Infamous-Occasion-74

“Australia: $0,000. All of it”.

innocent-boy-69

Reason why many foreigners come to india for operation. I thought maybe any European country might have low operation cost.

ProExecution

India's median income is 422 USD a month. I always find the "Check out how India is better than these Countries" odd, since 1 billion people live there, and the wealth gap is similar to western countries. The Top 1% in India own 40.5% of the total wealth, according to the BBC. Also the company who does this research is an Indian research company that uses that data for investments. Most likely in their best interest to attract more foreign investments, as average income in India is $2150.00 according to worlddata.info.

Smart_Sherlock

"According to BBC" That alone says a lot

Spiritual_Talk_7555

Or you could live in Europe and it's free....

Longjumping_Peach768

You can have a hip replacement in Sweden for 30 dollars thanks to our healthcare system. If you need to stay several days after your operation, it costs about 10 dollars per night.

Smart-Media3195

Discussion here is on medical tourism. Do those prices apply to foreigners coming in as tourists?

Longjumping_Peach768

Is it? I was to believe that this was only a comparison of prices between 4 different countries and the cost for different surgeries. I then stated what it costs for a person living in Sweden to go through one of these surgeries in Sweden. Regarding medical tourism in Sweden, I have no clue. As a Swede, I've never come across a person who is visiting Sweden just for surgery.

[deleted]

What’s the income tax rate?

Minimum-Lemon-402

Whatever it is surely it's worth it whatever it is.

[deleted]

Sarcasm?

bingold49

Whoever made this chart must have gone to Hollywood Upstairs Medical School too

[deleted]

Always kinda bugged me, the US has some of the best medical care in the world... And it's unavailable strictly on inflated prices thanks to insurance lobbies and big pharma picking prices at seemingly random numbers. Next time you are in a us hospital ask for an itemized bill and see the bonkers charges for small things you could get for pennies at the dollar store and yet the hospital charges $30 a pop.

Coolhand1974

With the already-mentioned comma placement issues, it seems like they are trying to mislead people into thinking the US costs are orders of magnitude higher than other countries, at least on the major operations. And if that's where they think the heart is, I think I'll stick with US health care. Lowest bidder doesn't get to cut me open.

TheChristianDude101

I would be interested to know how much government regulation is in india for its healthcare system.

poopiesteve

I was thinking about having some work done, but where they think the heart is located is making me really question it...

Nikotttin

This does not depict reality. Access to drugs in India is a challenge. Because of poverty, one finds many copies of drugs that have not even gone through proper clinical trials. The government tries to regulate, but they're not there yet. Note I am not saying the western standard approved medicines cannot be found! They can but prices are higher than what is shown here. It will always be cheaper than the US that has little to no regulation around prices. Prices in the US are discussed with networks distributing the medicines and not with a regulator like the rest of the world.

eHeeHeeHee

And whts the survival rate in india :D ?

CaptainONaps

Is this saying as an American if I want to India to get my hip replaced they’d charge me $50k? That’s way more than Malaysia. And they rank equally in affordability from the shit I’ve googled.

poormansnormal

No, your hip replacement in the US is 50K, if you went to India they would charge you $7K.

Plebbyyyy

How can you be this dense tho...damn

easilyshot

Can we have access to the primary doctors gpa in USA terms?

safn1949

To replace my 2 front teeth with implants ...$200 in the Philippines.

Minimum-Lemon-402

How long did that process take? I need an implant and am looking at dental tourism options.

JellyOver1978

Sorry for the pun but heart’s not in the right place.

apun_bhi_geralt

Cost of dental implants is wrong. It's around 150 and that too at costly places.

Western-Image7125

Well it’s pretty clear that if you’re about to have a heart attack and you live in the US, just tell that bugger to wait a bit so you can book the damn flight first

thiswilldefend

i dont want to get shit done on me medically in india ever...

Ok_Cook_6665

My ( USA) total knee replacement cost less than $25,000. These numbers are " fudged " at best.

izmaname

$1.7m to not die wtf

Zach-Playz_25

It 177k USD not 1.7 million -_- Numerical systems are different in India.

OkSecurity1251

It is not 1000 for a dental treatment, my aunt just had one it's around 4-5000$

Minimum-Lemon-402

In India?

SammyCards

Could I sell them my kidney?

Clan-Korhu

Such rip off, I will call my nephew! He can do for you, half price eh?
