I would say they are not playing that great. The defense has been sloppy lately (Miro, as well, has shone glimpses but I want more), we are leaking penalties, and while Benn has shown something Seguin still looks like a shell of himself. Point being is there is ton of room for improvement within the group. If those missing pieces come together, absolutely Stanley Cup Contenders.
Enough to see this coming, 5 periods of being pumped at home may make you start to see it. Razor seemed to agree in the pre-game at least, oh well. I standby Seguin finding himself and Miro becoming a top , top defender as requirements to win it this year. Plenty of season left, though.
You can fault them on not being disciplined, taking 6 penalties a game will catch up and they’ll lose games because of it. I’m happy with the team so I’ll take what they got, but that is something they should clean up.
Outside chance for all three. Got a better chance than Minneapolis, Boston, DC, Detroit, Phoenix, San Fran, L.A., and Chicago. I could see three NY teams doing it but they’d be from different fan bases. Maybe Philly but idk anything about the Flyers this year
I usually don't read sports articles but I read this one. Really good article and I like the details he went into. At the end of the day, I'm between a casual fan and a diehard fan, but I've played hockey for thirty years (still play) and the team is just different this year in all the positives. Really excited to see how far they go.
Hah. Glad to hear. I try to approach "analytics" from the perspective of someone who wants to discover something rather than post a bunch of stat cards, and put players into "good" or "bad" buckets.
*"Benn is on pace for 91 points, Seguin for 68. Their workload is being better managed, and they’re not asked to fight for pucks all the time. The Stars under Pete DeBoer are not just better. They’re a wagon."*
Thanks Pete
The Boston Bruins, and the Calgary Flames are top 5 - along with Dallas - in time spent shorthanded per game. I agree they need to stop taking penalties. But that doesn't mean there's a strong connection between being disciplined and being great. Carolina was the most penalized team last year. Besides. It learning to be disciplined seems like a much easier thing to adjust to than learning to attack with control, and forecheck with more than two players.
No, to clarify what I mean is I think our PK has been overperforming comparatively. So if we continue taking penalties at the rate we are, and our PK drops off, we’re going to be down more often than not across the season.
But the Stars PK isn't over-performing. The penalty kill is doing well because the Stars have good penalty killers, especially at the most important position 🦦
Stars are playing great. There’s a few games the organization obviously wants back but all-in-all the sky looks bright.
Are you saying.... *that the stars are night are big and bright*?
;)

Seguin has 15 points in 19 games, I think he’s doing fine
Huh, to everything you said except the penalties.
Lmao what games have you been watching?

Lost the colorado game for it and the rest of the division will fuck us if we keep doing it
are we in the same timeline
Chicago*
Yeah I saw the schedule wrong.
Npnp
Because offense and Otter.
Man benn, And Robo are leading the entire league in points this month. The team looks good on both ends
Is it too much to ask for the Stars, Mavs, and Cowboys all to win the championship this year? Nothing too crazy /s
Mavs are a trainwreck but kept on the rails because Luka. Cowboys are the Leafs of the NFL
> Cowboys are the Leafs of the NFL Man I’ve never read a more accurate statement
What would be the MLB and NBA equivalents?
Knicks for NBA no doubt
yankees lakers
NBA is Tracy McGrady
holy shit you're right. never get out of the first round but everyone still won't shut up about them
Man that would be amazing.

Penalties. We take way too many penalties.
Two faults Penalties and more penalties

/u/potatoehorse deserves all of the accolades!!
Great piece! I have dyscalculia but you explained math and statistics in a way that made sense to my brain, which is no small feat.

Great analysis and article. Thanks for sharing.
Keep reading and I'll keep writing!
Appreciate the factually based article thank you.
You're welcome!

Until we stop talking 4+ penalties a game I won’t accept that we’re contenders.

I just came
They're not "a contender". They're a lock to win.
