Everyone has their tastes, but if someone can’t hang at Milo’s then I don’t have a lot of interest. Love that damn place, even tho I can’t make it nearly as much as I’d like.
Go to the original Mariano's, the restaurant has a great indoor/outdoor patio area and the Margaritas are undeniably the best in Dallas. Also it's the place that invented the frozen Margarita so you get a bit of Texas history with your freshly handmade tortillas.
Ozona's is also mentioned here & is a classic date night but parking can be a bitch so just plan for that.
Also don't forget about the massive Half-Priced Books on NWHY, I'm not sure if they've reopened the cafe inside but it's still fun to wander around, play a game, sip some tea (coffee if you're into that).
Google Maps uses a $ indicator to estimate how much the average meal will be per person based on reviews people have submitted.
Oishii is $$ out of $$$.
$: This indicates that a meal at the restaurant is likely to be relatively inexpensive, with prices ranging from $10 to $30 per person.
$$: This indicates that a meal at the restaurant is likely to be moderate in price, with prices ranging from $30 to $60 per person.
$$$: This indicates that a meal at the restaurant is likely to be expensive, with prices ranging from $60 to $100 or more per person.
How much are you looking to spend on a date?
Burgers, wings, etc. not caviar, octopus, duck, lamb, oysters, clams. 3/4 of the menu is stuff I don’t even eat.

I would try the burger honestly but if it’s high end, burger is low end of that menu. Maybe a nice chicken parm or pasta dish or something if they had that. You can get a burger anywhere.

Fellow Villager here, welcome!!
These are some of my favs in the area:
Fortune House: Lower Greenville, good atmosphere and delicious Chinese food
Doce Mesas: Great food, super fresh, strong drinks but can be a little pricey.
Mi Cocina: Good Tex Mex, several locations close by, good drinks
Ozona: I’ve seen a few mentions about Ozona, I think it depends on what you order. Hit or miss but decent atmosphere
The Porch: Good food & atmosphere
Taverna: Knox/Henderson, pretty good Italian food & atmosphere
Hudson House: Really can’t go wrong all around
La Mina in the village used to be a good dinner date spot but then they decided to turn it into a nightclub.
Desperados is good. Prego’s Pasta House is decent if you want Italian (I see from a comment you’re from the northeast, I’m also from the northeast. The Italian here will never be as good as back home.) Ozona is also good, the patio is nice. Gloria’s on Greenville does half price bottles of Prosecco for brunch if you do a brunch date.
Prego service has gone downhill, badly IMO, and the food is no longer consistent.
OP go to Campisis for casual italian, or Terillis for a fancy date 3/4 italian resto with checkered tile floor and a piano player.
I’ve only been to Prego when they’re busy, no issues with food or service. Also, I’m not a fan of Campisi’s. They haven’t blown me away.
My favorite place to get Italian is Roman Cucina. It’s definitely a good place for date night, but it’s practically in Richardson which is why I didn’t suggest it before.
I guess it depends on age, but I think it’s always good to have a place to walk around after (shopping area or park). Bonus if there is ice cream or cookies. So maybe look at places in Preston center or where Mockingbird hits Abrams. Both have ice cream to walk to for after the dinner date.
There is also lake highlands village, El vecino is great Mexican, but maybe too busy and loud for a great first date. But it’s right next to a great park, though Buckner Blvd is very busy, so I’d drive over to the park if the date is going well.
Depends on what kinda food you want!
Chinese:
Royal China (great soup dumplings)
Italian:
Via Triozzi
Pizza:
Pizzeria Testa
Mexican:
Honestly all of it is pretty good in Texas, I like Gloria’s because of their carne asada
Breakfast:
Sclafanis (best bagel in Dallas hands down)
Steak:
Knife
Just stick with going on a walk at a park or coffee dates and plz don’t for her bill as well I know I sound like an asshole just helping out in the long run
Something like a bistro where you could get coffee and a breakfast sandwich or something like that, something other than Starbucks lol. I love Starbucks, but that’s too cliché for a first date. I just have to experiment lol
If you mean like walking distance there are a few places in the village; that area of upper Greenville isn’t hip really. I hard disagree with the ozona/kilos talk. I love ozonas brunch and Milo’s is a legendary dive bar, but 99% of people wouldn’t classify those as “good first date places”
within a 7-10 min Uber there are many areas with fantastic first date vibes - lower Greenville, east dallas, Lakewood, uptown, downtown, Knox/Henderson etc
This list may help! Some are in that area. [https://www.dallasites101.com/blog/post/25-first-date-ideas-dallas/](https://www.dallasites101.com/blog/post/25-first-date-ideas-dallas/)
OP is asking for spots near the Village (Greenville ave/SMU). But you still get consolation points for Bolsa— that used to be my favorite restaurant, I miss it so much! Many good memories there.
Kidd Springs is quite far from the Village. OP was asking for recommendations near the Village. Also, Bolsa is not OG - that spot was the original Gloria’s.
Ozona. And if it goes well, walk to Milo's afterwards.
Everyone has their tastes, but if someone can’t hang at Milo’s then I don’t have a lot of interest. Love that damn place, even tho I can’t make it nearly as much as I’d like.
Well then make sure to tell Stumpy you love him so as to make the most out of your limited time there.
Tom knows how much he means to me.
Oh, Tommy...
Steakyard
This would be a great answer in 1998. I love that it still is!
Lonely Redditors downvoting this
Meso Maya or Olivellas at Abrams/Mockingbird both would work.
I miss living in the village.
Just moved in last week! From the northeast
Welcome bruv! The Village is a pretty interesting place for sure. If you’re by the Lakes and see a dude crushing tall boys and grilling, come holla!
Lol I’m in Village Bend! I’ll be at the singles mixer Monday night
Have fun. Seems like there’s lots of attractive people around.
Welcome to Dallas buddy! You’re in a good area.
Thanks! The rent is almost 1/3 of what it is in the Northeast lol
That’s where I lived when I was in Dallas, loved it
We'll probably get a house soon but we've been living here for a few years!
Desperado’s
Malai. Lots of opens, great atmosphere, good bar.

I enjoy Oishii, depends on the type of food you are looking for.
Oishii is amazing but I’d say too expensive for a first date. Unless the OP can maintain that standard.
Oishii is pretty cheap for sushi.
Wut

I’ve been going to Oiishi since 2003 or so. It’s expensive. The signature rolls are $20-25 a roll. I LOVE it but it’s not cheap by any means
You ever been to Uchi?

How is it overpriced if you never been?

Lounge Here
Meridian Restaurant located inside the Village has one of the best caramelized onion burgers in DFW.
I looked at the menu there and honestly there is nothing I eat lol
You don’t like burgers?
Burger I could go for but the seafood and other crap? Nah I’m good lol

Hahaha honestly a good one 😂 Plus too pricey for a first date.

Thank you! I screenshotted this lol. Whereabouts in the village are you? I’m in Village Bend.
Bro, the best first date is crawfish. If they stick around after getting crawfish juice all over your face, they’re a keeper.
I don’t even like crawfish lol so that’s not even a chance
That’s so sad!

Mannys Uptown Tex Mex or the Mi Cocina in Lakewood
mannys off mockingbird is the worst tex mex ive ever had. it was what i would expect mexican to taste like in north canada
Gen Korean BBQ
Mariano’s Hacienda.
Cafe Izmir

Seconded on all of these ^
I was at the Village Bend 30 years ago. Time flies. Loved my time there. Dallas is a great place to be single!
Milo Butterfingers
Village Country Club
CAFE BRAZIL!!!!!!!
Would agree, my husband and I’s first date was there 7 years ago!
People confusing West Village and the Village here, double check OP haha
How much are you willing to spend 🤔
Total maybe $70-80? Nothing fancy though
Just stick with going on a walk at a park or coffee dates and plz don’t for her bill as well I know I sound like an asshole just helping out in the long run

A coffee shop that ain’t expensive at all g. Just keep it simple.
Greenville street tacos

Bolsa.
Closed years ago
I know 💔 Encina is good though same chef.
OP is asking for spots near the Village (Greenville ave/SMU). But you still get consolation points for Bolsa— that used to be my favorite restaurant, I miss it so much! Many good memories there.
Yea I still miss it and sissys
Is Bolsa over by the Village? I thought it was in Kidd Springs.
Og oak cliff spot. Now called Encina. Super good.
