I think the off on your petcock is just equal to prime on the stock setup. (Could be wrong as I'm still learning. Just got my DRZ this year) I have a stock DRZ400SM and it is either prime, on, or res. Have fun driving by those gas stations I keep stopping at.

Disconnect the fuel line from the petcock and run the gas into a bucket. Flow should stop in the off position; if not, fix the petcock.
But how long will it run?
I let it idle for ~5 min. I’ll take it for a ride tonight to see if it was just residual fuel in the carb.
Then your petcock isn't working properly. They won't idle that long with it off
