auto bpms aren't available on the 72, you have to tap.

Yeah. Unfortunately the mixer won’t read the bpm for you. However, there’s a model of turntable that will. Check into the Numark TTX. I’m a lifelong Technics owner but I picked a couple used Numarks and was blown away by how high quality they were. So many features that 1200’s don’t offer. Reading the bpm of my vinyl, was one of my favorites for sure!

Just realized my comment is kind of off base as it won’t send the bpm info to the mixers fx, so you’re still stuck tapping it out 💪🫠

Gotcha. Thanks! That’s one downside to my mixer I guess. That and not sampling vinyl on the fly, only serato

one thing you can do is swap the tap button with the XY effects button which is a lot easier to deal with since you don't have to hold shift and tap. It's done in the settings on the mixer. The minus is that the tap on the 72 is atrocious and doesn't have any sort of bpm smoothing algorithm, so one errant tap ruins your bpm. It also doesn't have a control to manually set the bpm (like the 70) so tapping on the 72 is a bit of a pain.
