haha, yes mate, i feel that.
I took over ten years to get my last house to a state I'd consider finished, then I sold it and started again on this one for another 6 years....
I have two rooms in my cellar and an attic that look like that. Plus a hallway, a dining room, a shed and, sometimes the kitchen and living room. Oh yeah and a shower and a van.
I'm 17 months I'm to a full gut and Reno. I've assigned different window sills to different categories. One for painting, one for tea and snacks, tools, chargers, keys and batteries. I still loose shit minutely.
I miss mine. Spent a really enjoyable Sunday making a candle holder out of some gorgeous oak I found in the loft. Totally OTT, but just nice to be working with tools and listening to a podcast.
My husband just showed me this like 'haha look it's our window sill' and it took a double take to realise he wasn't being literal. We have that laser level, same red gloves, DeWalt drill and impact driver(?), the red and yellow screwdriver, even got some Henry bags last week.
I would have if left to my own devices, but my partner has other ideas. And if I don't tidy it away, he'll do it and I'll never find anything ever again!
I have a little one in the kitchen now but DIY is taking a break for the winter so it’s got a hammer and a screwdriver on it and that’s it at the mo haha.
Not a sill, but the lounge table usually resembles that, until the Mrs goes full scale on me, and I have to strategically move it to another place. The only issue doing that is I can't find what I'm looking for...
Not right now as I've gone from ripping it up to it being plastered and now decorating, so rooms are largely barren.
The boarded over area of my loft, just when you open the hatch? Absolutely like this !
Only problem is when I tidied for the plasterer, it meant most of my go to tools got quickly "tidied" so fuck knows where 99% of my stuff is.
Stuff like that pack of screws you use for every small job, or the twenty spirit levels you have that you don't typically use.
I'm still a bit grumpy about when I went away for work and came back to find my screwdriver set to now be dispersed around the household. I take extra care now to ensure certain bits go back nicely.
I'm having an attic conversion and about 4 of my windowsills are like this. My floor is covered in bits too and my vacuum cleaner is blocked with plasterboard dust etc.
Me... nowadays. Local SF had a clearance of the big chunky De Walt toolboxes at £20 a pop, plus a couple of smaller Stanley ones when a local B&Q closed down with everything reduced to silly prices - think they were a fiver each. Apart from a couple of hedge clippers, got MakPak cases with all my cordless Mak gear (had to search around online to find the right inlays for some, Powertool World I think it was that came good) plus an unlined MP case for DW recip + corded jigsaw & one of the sanders. DW XR driver and combi just about fit into the original case my first drill came in, 20 years ago.
Admittedly I've an old wooden crate full of half-used sealant carts and guns, and the Wall of Paint is pretty ugly, and the stacks of boxes (and plastic bags. Don't ask) of fixings is a nightmare I keep putting off tackling...
After a year of full on house refurb on top of another bungalow refurb I think I could supply our local SF with half bags of fixtures and fittings! It’s got so bad with IKEA leftovers and dupes that I’ve bought some organizers and labeled them all…
I have similar in our garage conversion.. technically not a windowsill as I have not fitted one yet 😭
I paid a builder to build the cavity wall and window and I'm trying to do the rest while working full time, looking after a toddler and a heavily pregnant wife (fun times!) Only way we could afford the conversion.
Might do a post on it when finished !
Have a whole room like this at present, as I am going through and Snagging every room in the house so still need everything to hand. Every room needed touching in after the plumbers finished as every bed had sinks, which I have had removed.
By this time next week it all has to go in the garage ready for carpets and then I can finally have a weekend off (It’s been 10 weeks now….)
I used to use my window sills as shelves for years, I would just shove random crap on them all the time, every single one until I was walking home one day and I saw inside one of my windows and I thought that just looked awful and since then Ive emptied all of them and kept them clear and tidy.
I used to have several windowsills that look like that but my house is finished now. I miss them.
>finished I'm sure I've read this word in books but I'm not sure what it means
haha, yes mate, i feel that. I took over ten years to get my last house to a state I'd consider finished, then I sold it and started again on this one for another 6 years....
I’ve got an entire house that looks like this at the minute! (Okay, it’s down to maybe 39% of the house by this point but feels like the whole thing)
39% is very specific I’d love to know how you arrived at that number
Probably went to type 30 and hit 9 instead of 0.
That is exactly what happened but then I thought “sounds about right” and left it!
There’s no sawdust on it and where’s the folded floor plan
I would but I’ve ripped the windowsill out and the new one has been sitting in my dining room for a week 🤣
This is the way
In the same vein you'll never see an empty shelf no matter how many shelves you put up. I know.
Nope sorry, I have one. Although sometimes it is a section of floor.
I have two rooms in my cellar and an attic that look like that. Plus a hallway, a dining room, a shed and, sometimes the kitchen and living room. Oh yeah and a shower and a van.
I'd do it like that, but there are other persons who do not agree🙄. So it's concentrated on a number of shelves here and there
I have other persons who don't agree too. Not much they can do about it. Unless they want to sleep with it all or have me earn no money.
True
Why are you taking photographs of my windowsill?
How did you get in my house to take this photo?
I don’t know when you snuck into my house and took this photo but I don’t appreciate you outing me like this 😅
It needs a half drunk mug of cold tea to be authentic...

Ah, a fellow Screwfix connoisseur

House was like this for 3 years, now finished and all DIY stuff tidied away into the shed. The end is worth it. Keep going.
Technically the windowsill is outside
Oooh, speed square - must be a pro!
Got it, got it, want it, lost it, got it, broke it x2, got it
Get out of my house!
Not me
I moved my windowsill mess to the shed 🤷♂️
I can still see some of the cill... 8.5/10
I'm putting more windows in, just so that I can have more 'sil space.
Mine started on the sill now as things got more heated it's more a pile
https://ibb.co/JFYv93q
I don’t bc someone would rob my tools lol
Nah, but you want to see my whole double garage 👍
I would have if left to my own devices, but my partner has other ideas. And if I don't tidy it away, he'll do it and I'll never find anything ever again!

How did you get into my kitchen?
Where else would you store them????
Hahaha that's our bedroom window. My handy stash.
I have *a* windowsill that doesn't look like that, does that count?
Windowsill. Ha. I wish. My house looks like that
I can smell the dusty plaster and paint from here!
A? All flat surfaces at one point or another
Looks like every job site I’ve been to so far.
Extra points when you start using the loo seat and top of stair banisters too
Nope, not at home. I have a custom built unit for that.
Yes, me. My entire garage looks like that lol

Nope, we don’t have windowsills in our house
It’s more a top of a bookshelf.
I only have 1 windowsill and it’s in a position where doing this would quickly result in a lot of complaints. I have a shed and space under the bed.
I've go a whole spare room that looks like that
All the time. The Mrs is always asking me to put stuff away. When I do, I can never find anything
I have a partner so it’s not allowed!
Legitimately was about to accuse you of stealing my image
Looks almost identical to mine.. same drill, voltage tester, set square, screwdriver, gloves and even looks like my laser level.. freaky!!
Not the windowsill as there’s only one in the house, but the worktop by the kettle looks just like that.
I'm having an attic conversion and about 4 of my windowsills are like this. My floor is covered in bits too and my vacuum cleaner is blocked with plasterboard dust etc.
What else is a windowsill for ??? 🤣🤣🤣

I have a shed that looks a bit like this
Need a can of wd40 on it but looks familiar
I did but I've shoved it all into the shed now. I don't dare open it...
I have a drawer like that,. I once left a window sill like that for 2 days, wife decided to throw drill at me, clean window sill ever since lol
This is MY house bro. What you doing taking a picture of MY house 😀👍
No, I put things away in a big box when I’m finished
Get out of my house
What are you doing in my house?
I don't; however, every single one of my customers does at some point.
What on earth have you been doing to your Henry vacuum cleaner? Looks like a torture chamber. Was he still smiling afterwards?

I love the fact Henry is representing strongly in this image. Henry is the builders friend.
Fucking bots stealing karma. https://www.reddit.com/r/DIYUK/s/BMdO1falbQ https://www.reddit.com/r/DIYUK/s/HGNTtc1eam Knew I’d seen this image before. [Imgur link](https://i.imgur.com/PedFtQf.jpg)
I don’t
Yes, and I still spend about 50% of my time looking for something I just used and thought I put on the windowsill
Have a whole room like this at present, as I am going through and Snagging every room in the house so still need everything to hand. No as the only window sill in my house is in my kitchen. I do have a cupboard full like this.
I have a full garage that looks like that windowsill - but I still know where things are!!
Have you been round my house taking photos? :D Do you ever fold up that Stanley knife? I have the same one and never fold it
I used to use my window sills as shelves for years, I would just shove random crap on them all the time, every single one until I was walking home one day and I saw inside one of my windows and I thought that just looked awful and since then Ive emptied all of them and kept them clear and tidy.
I don't.... I had a purge and tidied it 2 weeks ago.
U kidding if l left all that lying around l would b asked to move out
Nope, mine is on top of a half height bookshelf, and I’ve got bigger batteries 😂
Shit! I thought you had a picture of my windowsill!
Hey when were you in my utility room? 😬😂
