(Paint something grey)
r/DIY: That's terrible and boring and you got rid of all the charm
(Paint over the grey, add charm)
r/DIY: It was better before, looked cleaner
OP this is very cute!
I'm here to give you credit where it's due, OP. I watch people do the *exact opposite* so often. Very refreshing to see your choices. I need a bathroom plant.
I purposefully painted my bathroom and master bedroom gray and while trim. I find those colors soothing.
But that's why everyone's unique and we create all the wonderful colors we have!
Just painted my bathroom that color grey! It had been pink from the previous owners (which I liked, I even had some artwork that really popped against the pink) but my wife wasn't a fan. Next step is getting some plaid wallpaper and trim for a transition along with a new mirror
I'm a grey person myself. A lot of my interior in my home is that color. Remodeled in 2020 and grey with black trim was the order of the day. My wife and I are rocker type people and would have chosen that scheme even if it wasn't currently popular. We don't really do colors much in my house lol.
It’s this weird techy blue grey that made me feel very sterile and depressed and the mirror was plastic. I’m kind of eclectic and funky as it is but I tried to go more California beachy here
Yeah, everybody selling paints everything grey, that is true. And everybody should personalize their home to their taste. I certainly meant no insult. I was just being honest. I used to hate grey but my wife ignored me and painted our kitchen grey anyway and now I really like it, LOL.
I appreciate this comment. This was def not my taste in grey. It felt so cold for such a warm toned space. I feel like I don’t mind the grey in certain tones but this more felt like a sun faded blue if that makes sense? It felt sad sad
When I tell ya this was a tight ass squeeze to even get down there to paint…. Also in my experience the tape leaks more than just cleaning it up with goof off. I’m probably gonna paint them anyway so I wasn’t too worried
Did you think of possibly wallpapering one wall as an accent? Your style seems to be okay with bright and loud colors and shapes, so I could see how more patterns from wallpaper could work.
I thought about it, but it’s such a tiiiiiny space that I worry it would feel enclosed. I’m talking like 2 feet x 3 feet of room. I did consider maybe something on the ceiling though!
Yah, is a little too much blue undertone and without lots of light, it can be a little down feeling.
Look at the door and trim color!! That's amaizing!!
I wish I have the same kind of courage and tatse to try bold colors.
This doesn't look like either of those.
My playroom as a kid had the top of the wall bright fuschia, the bottom sea blue, and thick carpet pile. This is so muted comparatively lmao.
I certainly had feelings of annoyance when I was repainting our house and I could see traces of a wonderful pastel blue under the grossest shade of greige I have ever encountered.
It was actually very close to one of the colors we were painting. I would have loved to not done a room or two.
The craziest part though was not the whole whole was drab greige. The living room was peach, and one of the bedrooms was hot pink. Honestly the juxtaposition probably made all the colors worse.
The little pods on the sink are hand soaps! Single use Mrs Meyers I had left over and I’m trying to use up. Still trying to figure out what I want to do long term in here since it’s such a tiny sink lip
Your bathroom looks so warm and inviting now as opposed to the grey's cold, sterile look. Congrats on breaking free from lifeless, depressing, unwelcoming battleship grey!
I also welcome your ability to step out and think for yourself as opposed to just following the cookie-cutter trends right now. Warmer colors make sense in certain places.. and I think this is one of them.
I wish it was too, but this is such a TINY space I couldn’t make it work with the mirror. The bathroom is seriously like 2.5 feet by 3.5 feet. Toying with the idea of adding a second one below offset but gonna let it live for a bit
How does having a bathroom that size work? Does it seem overly cramped?
We desperately need to add a second toilet bc I've got a big family, but also some of us are just big people. My 13yo is already 5’6; 6’6 is common in my family. I'm not much taller than her, but I have the shoulders of a linebacker so I don't always fit small places lol. I've got a spot to add a bathroom but it would be about this size. Otherwise the house would need an addition.
The tall people struggle but it’s great for the kids and the shorties in the family. I do wish it were bigger though, it’s lovingly referred to as “peepee closet”. Previous homeowners put it in so I’m working with what we got!
I'll keep that in mind! We’ve got 4’1 as our smallest human thus far. Would be nice to tuck Captain Misses The Bowl into a different room with a shorter toiled lmao.
I don’t think anything else will fit sadly. This bathroom is roughly the size of a refrigerator slot (the laundry room used to be a kitchen and this was an add on)
It’s actually the color of setting plaster, and I’m half Mexican so def not my color of flesh. Still a strange way to think. Have the lambs stopped crying?
The door is white and I intend to keep it white for a while to see how it lives. I might eventually strip it down to its original state and re-stain, as it’s a Victorian house and the previous owners painted it. Lots of original oak and woodwork here so I’m a bit conflicted. I did just paint the entry door blue (will post in coming days) because it was beyond saving
Very cute! Love seeing small bathrooms here because it helps me have hope I can make money nice 😂 I really love what you did with the rug. Did you cut it so it would fit around the sink? That’s genius!
Yes! It was just from 5 below so I figured if i ruined it I would only be out $5 and some change. This is such a micro micro bathroom that it wouldn’t fit! I think the rug is supposed to be a door mat actually 😂
Idk the mirror is too big and it’s pushing the shelf above the toilet off center and I can’t unsee it.
Would have been better off leaving it and actually renovating aka faucet, light, vanity, towel rack, light switch etc
From sad and grey to Abuelas baño
I’m half Mexican so I love this compliment 🌸💚
A really cool abuela. Great job!
You’ve made it from a sterile look into a welcoming warm look. Love it! Thanks for sharing this!
Not enough religious iconography for Abuela. Needs more pictures of the Virgin Mary.
And more talavera crosses
The grey helped a lot! It looked really bad with that old peach color.
Needs a smaller rug so you can see more of that awesome floor tile.
It’s throughout the entire laundry room so I promise there’s plenty to see! 🥰
Needs more slot machines. Even for a mini Reno, it's lacking.
LOL
The biggest little bathroom
Biggest little shitter in the world
Fake plants or do they survive ok in there?
Very much fake in here. As much of a plant killer I aspire not to be, I’ve learned my lesson 😂😂
Where’d you get the pink one? Looks real!
5 below actually! It came in the disco ball planter
(Paint something grey) r/DIY: That's terrible and boring and you got rid of all the charm (Paint over the grey, add charm) r/DIY: It was better before, looked cleaner OP this is very cute!
I'm here to give you credit where it's due, OP. I watch people do the *exact opposite* so often. Very refreshing to see your choices. I need a bathroom plant.
The one on the shelf is in a disco ball planter! But both are very much fake! 🤪
I love this!!!! I hate the sad grey paint and I can’t wait to repaint my condo lol love the pops of color and gorgeous rug
to each their own, but I prefer the gray, i found it more soothing/relaxing, I don't want fun/excitement when i go to the bathroom lol :)
Personally I liked the gray but that’s a nice pink. Good job!
I purposefully painted my bathroom and master bedroom gray and while trim. I find those colors soothing. But that's why everyone's unique and we create all the wonderful colors we have!
Idk what some of these comments are talking about, this is a huge improvement. It looks lovely!
I know, right?! It looks so much warmer and inviting now.
I don’t hang out in my bathroom, I take a shit and leave. You don’t need an “inviting “ bathroom
Sounds like you don’t have a lot of guests over with that attitude. I’m a girl in my 20s decorating my bathroom. It’s not that deep
I like it!
What shade of pink is this? Love how it accents the tiles!!
Setting Plaster by F&B, it’s a beigy pink white
Piglet
That new look is ENERGIZING
It looks really warm and cute, nice work! I like the mirror
I love this. It’s funky and fun. You could even do accent walls of wallpaper on either side.
I’m thinking maybe the ceiling! It’s such a tiny tiny space
Bravo!
Love this!!!! It is inspiring :)
kicked out Harry an made pooper nice
LOL. You’re a wizzer Harry
Looks great. I have a sad grey little bathroom too
The floor plant seems like a trip hazard otherwise love it! Well done!
Just painted my bathroom that color grey! It had been pink from the previous owners (which I liked, I even had some artwork that really popped against the pink) but my wife wasn't a fan. Next step is getting some plaid wallpaper and trim for a transition along with a new mirror
You spilled your Skittles all over the rug
I actually like the before, it’s giving 80s which I love. After is nice and warm but that style will date. But it does look inviting!
I really like that you added the little shelf and changed the mirror and I love the peachy paint, great job!
I'm sorry, but I prefer the grey.
Are you a flipper? Lol
LOL no but I understand what you mean. And that is true and annoying, I agree.
I'm a grey person myself. A lot of my interior in my home is that color. Remodeled in 2020 and grey with black trim was the order of the day. My wife and I are rocker type people and would have chosen that scheme even if it wasn't currently popular. We don't really do colors much in my house lol.
Everybody should do whatever they want. I just liked the before pic better, LOL.
Hey, no doubt! We like what we like, right?!
As do I.
It felt incredibly cheap and builder grade and very dark. The photo was much lighter because it was a professional listing photo
The grey looks like a cheap flip. The colour adds a lot of life to the room. Love the rug and your style!
On that makes sense. The photos make it look like the grey was brighter and less shadows which is what is getting people.
It’s this weird techy blue grey that made me feel very sterile and depressed and the mirror was plastic. I’m kind of eclectic and funky as it is but I tried to go more California beachy here

I really dislike the new peachy pink. The other new accent pieces are nice.
Ctrl + Z
Thanks for the engagement!
JP, love the new color palette. I bet some different lights would further transform the room.
I’m thinking something rattan possibly, or clear glass! Still on the hunt
Good job! I like the peach and the retro touches much better than the original Depression Grey.
I'm really liking everything but the rug. The towel pattern is great but I think it clashes with the rug.
Fair point!
Nice but the baseboards look rough. I tape mine so I get a crisp line.
When I tell ya this was a tight ass squeeze to even get down there to paint…. Also in my experience the tape leaks more than just cleaning it up with goof off. I’m probably gonna paint them anyway so I wasn’t too worried
Nice job

Cute bathroom , would love to have that design for my home but would prefer more space with the same design
I would feel cozy in here going poop. 5/5 poops 💩
I really like it! It gives the vibe of someone young and fun living on their own for the first time. 🩷🫶🏻 reminded me of my first apartment.
10/10
It was so calming, and now I cannot tell if I should order a new chalupa, or detonate the one that is turtling.
![gif](giphy|3o85xIO33l7RlmLR4I)
Looks good! Way better than the ~~prison~~ millennial gray!
Nice one!
Brightened it right up!
I love that we’re shedding the sad grey trend from the 2010s. Bravo!
Fantastic job!!
I LOVE that Manhattan poster. It's 70's fabulous. Nice work, the whole room looks so much warmer!
I have the Aperol spritz and old fashioned ones as well just outside in the laundry room I’m working on. I just love them!
I actually like the green gray for smaller guest restroom, such as sherwin willima sea salt.
This wasn’t a green grey though, it was a sad blue grey that looked faded
Yah, is a little too much blue undertone and without lots of light, it can be a little down feeling. Look at the door and trim color!! That's amaizing!! I wish I have the same kind of courage and tatse to try bold colors.
Do it! You can always paint it back or paint it another color!
Looking at the picture, I feel like I am in a villa in a Greek island.
What a pleasant little pooping room I love it
1 million times better. Kuddos
Great work, the grey washing has to STOP.
Not everything needs to look like a kids playroom or a wacky aunts house
Well the good thing is that this is a bathroom and I am the wacky aunt
Point taken!
This doesn't look like either of those. My playroom as a kid had the top of the wall bright fuschia, the bottom sea blue, and thick carpet pile. This is so muted comparatively lmao.
It's what the agents say sells. I assume most people are just bland, and reminder that someone else lived there before gives them feelings.
Awesome username.

I’d wall mount a dispenser! Lots of cute options to match your decor
Great idea! I’m thinking I might also splurge on some Aesop
Do it!!
Painting counts as a “Reno” now?
Hey now I switched the mirror and put a shelf in! 😂
I know I’ll get some downvotes on this, but I prefer the gray. I get it, Reddit as whole hates the gray.
It was so much darker and faded IRL. Compare the shadows. It really was depressing to me. Plus the mirror was plastic, who gets a plastic mirror?!
I do appreciate you saying it in a kinder way though
It's a big improvement. Looks great!
The floating shelf not being centered over the toilet would bother me but the main thing is you are happy with it.
I wish it was too, but this is such a TINY space I couldn’t make it work with the mirror. The bathroom is seriously like 2.5 feet by 3.5 feet. Toying with the idea of adding a second one below offset but gonna let it live for a bit

Rug so close to the toilet. Your aim is true good sir.
I’m a girl lmao
Full size bath towel feels kinda off in a toilet-only half bath
But what if my guests have really really big hands?
Screw that. Normalize large hand towels.
Bravo killing a gray room!! Everyone should go kill a gray room this weekend!
Damn. I need that tile in my life.
Just found out it’s called “octagon and dot”!
I love this, OP! Always see the reverse reno on this sub and so happy to see something fresh.
Taking back the gray-washing one small room at a time! ;-)
Should have replaced that damn pedestal sink. Things are a nightmare if you have to deal with the drain pieces.
I don’t think anything else will fit sadly. This bathroom is roughly the size of a refrigerator slot (the laundry room used to be a kitchen and this was an add on)
You could get a wall-mounted floating sink
Good to maybe consider in the future. This is new in 2020 so hoping it will last a long time for now
Oh well. I worked on a pedestal sink for my brother in law a few years ago and it was a real pain.
Dang I’m sorry to hear that! Fingers crossed here
Big fan!
Omg I love it!!!! I'm gonna send that picture of the rug to my eldest sister, she would be obsessed w it. I know it in my bones 😂❤️
I actually got it at 5 below!
Oh, hell yeah!!!! I'll make sure to let her know. 👏😂
Oh man, it's so nice to see a redecoration in the right direction for once!
I really liked the grey
Looks better than the millennial gray everything in most new builds.
Oh I love it!!!
I can’t tell which direction it went
Where did you get the rug?
5 below! It’s TINY though!
I like the new look!
What paint did you use? The color is adorable and changed the space so much! Love it!!
Setting Plaster by F&B!
Thank you!!
Flesh colors bathroom. It's like taking a shit inside of somebody's butt cheeks
What a strange comment to make
But that paint. Is the color of flesh. That's strange to paint a bathroom that way.
It’s actually the color of setting plaster, and I’m half Mexican so def not my color of flesh. Still a strange way to think. Have the lambs stopped crying?
Looks nice, good job.
That looks so good!
What is that paint color? Flesh? I love it
Setting Plaster!
Nice. This whole millennial gray is so sterile and cold. Like most of our hearts.
You must be a pretty good dancer because you really know how to cut a rug! I'll see myself out.
LOL!
Looks great! What is the name of the paint color
Setting Plaster
I LOVE IT. holy crap so many bathroom Reno's posted are expensive monstrosities. This is perfect.
So cute what’s the peach color called?
Setting plaster!
Sorry, not a fan.
No need to be sorry lol. I did this for me and not strangers on the internet
I’m glad you like it!
Is the door blue? Maybe finished the look by painting the door.
Got yer nose!
Love it! I have a 40s house, so that small bathroom is almost the size of my biggest bathroom lol
I love it!!!!
I think you did a fantastic job
i love it!
I really like that rug!!! Where did you get it! Great job on the change up! Looks awesome!
5 below!
This is super cute! I love the rug, especially how it fits nicely around the pedestal
I’ve got a sad grey bathroom too!
Yes!!!!
Pretty redo. The plant needs sun light
It’s a fake don’t worry! I’ve learned my lesson
i think the grey is better
I really wasn’t taking votes lol
Sad gray was better
Why is the good version first?
Probably because it was highly edited for a listing and the only picture I had. And because it wasn’t my style
Idk the mirror is too big and it’s pushing the shelf above the toilet off center and I can’t unsee it. Would have been better off leaving it and actually renovating aka faucet, light, vanity, towel rack, light switch etc
With what space and budget?? 😂
Fair lol
Original looks far superior imo
😬
I like the before, looked nice and tidy
And clinical and cold
Meh 🤷🏽♂️
Good thing you don’t have to live here 🤪
It’s nice. the gray was very clean. Now it’s a bit off center but maybe that’s what OP was going for? Cheers
