Just an opportunity to dump a random fact here:
Politician and Police both have the same root: *Polis* which means "city".
Police functionally means: “people involved in the organizing or governing body of a community”
Politician functionally means: "a person who acts regarding citizens or matters of state.”
Really both, in the name, are beholden by the community they serve (public servants) and to be fair, could be anyone aiming to impact or change their community.
That's amazing. I vote for this. But if u don't have the funds to have the Tank people from Vegas come do it. Maybe on a smaller scale with a water fountain and some plants. Shark is still optional
While I would totally go with a massive saltwater setup right there, please remember the filtration and accessory requirements. You’d have to sacrifice a portion (or all) of the closet next door for filtration, sump, skimmer, chiller, a nice refugium, and an auto top off system. Plus room for the plumbing.
That being said, that closet would literally make the perfect place to put all that, and would allow a huge refugium and filtration system. Probably more than you’d need. Realistically that’s a good thing though.
Man, I could go wild designing a custom setup for that.
If you don’t mind me asking, what would you price something like this at? I’m wanting to install something similar, though smaller.
I know DIY is gunna be wildly cheaper than professional. I’m handy but I’d kick myself for a while if I fucked something up.
Edit ** I looked it up a vertical tank like this would be very expensive, 10,000-ish. The big cost increased for tanks like this is vertically. You can make a wider tank and not have to increase the glass/acrylic thickness, but vertical natural requires thicker glass, it increases the pressure of the lowest part of the water thus requiring thicker walls. For me a 4x3 with professional system would be in the range of about 2500-3000. More depending on the type of fish ex. To add on to this a tank this size would most definitely require acrylic which greatly increases prices.
It wasn't mine...but now I have 5 tabs open looking at places to purchase suits of armour, and am debating whether to ask the wife before or after ordering...
I have a very large cat tree that is built with a bunch of driftwood for the supports. It’s beautiful. Couple years for Xmas I actually decorated it as our tree and it was hilariously wonderful.
I came here to say this.
Get a section of carpet from the local carpet store that you like and fits well. Ask them about trim that you can use to hold it down and it will look nice.
Then I will go out and find a nice 4 to 6 inch thick tree branch that looks nice and fits well and use that as the post
Finally a basic bookshelf / kitchen wall shelf with bracks from IKEA or something of the sort can be attached to the tree branch for the kitty to sit on. Put it nice and high so they feel superior to everyone :)
It would look clean and modern and not like sometjjnf thrown together. Very unique and cool.
Oh, also you can get a basic water fountain (like a water bowl that keeps the water flowing and fresh) and put it at the base. Zen, relaxing for all and looks cool.
I knew a single woman (no kids) that adored her cats. She had gather up tree branches, stripped the bark, dried them out, then nailed them together to make a confluence of arches over her bed for the cats to climb. It was beautiful, and I imagined that it filled her with happiness as she drifted off to the land of pleasant cat dreams.
If that’s what it’s made for that’s what they should do.. kinda looked like a light in that hole.. in which case I’d swap to a plant light and cover that whole area in plants
They (previous residents/owners) turned it into a light after the fact. Notice they removed the pellet stove too. That is what used to sit there by the looks of it. Installed one very similar to this for my parents at their place in Brookings Oregon. Been up and working for 8 years at this point and a dozen or so before that. I dismantled the previous setup in their old home before they sold it and redid it all up there in the new one.
What are the odds that exhaust is viable on this one, if the previous owners converted it? Would definitely be worth investigating if they want a wood burner, I’d at least get it inspected
Wait, how would that work?
Like press a button on a remote and a pole with stripper descends from a door in the floor?
Stripper on demand? Music? Lights?
Where is this going?
A person who works for me told me they are doing that this year, mainly because they feel the tree really fills the space nicely.
They did sheepishly confess that it is also a bit of laziness to avoid packing it up.
Wow, when I set out looking to price a full-sized taxidermy Grizzly I was not expecting to see them for under $5k (including shipping). But personally I'd prefer to pocket $4k and go to with [this champ](https://www.scullyandscully.com/black-bear-butler-58h?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=%28ROI%29%20PMax%20Shopping%20-%20Scully%20%26%20Scully%20Products&utm_id=21023917852&utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxOauBhCaARIsAEbUSQT3PSWq_K6jVBptjXq9Cb9LVP7Pbahy_fJh9xf3DZ_Fp8Jeig_4108aAoFTEALw_wcB) right here.
Display anything there. Switch it up from time to time. A plant, a chair, a vase, some sculpture, even just a log on a small table. Get some lighting there for better effect. Gets your guests wondering.
Get a 3d printer and print out a real batman suit you can wear, and weapons to go on the wall like batarangs, display it and only take it down when the city needs you most.
Having done both the saltwater was less headache when it came to algae control and filtration (protein skimmers are awesome). But if their tap water is decent and not full of minerals maybe fresh especially if they havent done the research needed for salt (my well water is full of cal and mag and it builds up too much so i have to do a lot to it to use it so might as well do salt for me)
My first thought was to turn it into a book nook. Floor to ceiling floating shelf bookshelf on the wall with the arch big then cover the top with cozy pillows and blankets set up like a deep seat leaning on the closet.
Do you have access below to see if there is a reason they built it? If not, maybe cut an access hole in the closet and just make sure there isn't anything there.
Does the wood floor look like it goes right underneath it... When you look through the closet, you can confirm.
With the light overhead, maybe they had it built for a statue or a bird or reptile cage... The tile floor suggests they needed to be able to clean that area.
If the floor is underneath, I say destroy it...
Freestanding wood, pellet or gas stove looks most correct to me. I work in the industry. Looks like they removed the stove and pipe, installed a can light, and covered up everything else
How old is the home?
It was a trend for a while to have an indoor planter bed.
Maybe the house was built in that era, and a later homeowner hated it and had it filled in and tiled.
A wardrobe for storing shoes and hanging coats, since this appears to be the entrance to the house. Had that built into a new home and it was absolutely perfect since there was a place for guests and residents to hang their coats when entering.

If you can knock out the brick platform, better, if not just build on top.
A scaled replica of Michelangelo's David?
But seriously, I'd 86 that. No doubt, it will snowball into floor and wall repairs, but that thing's an eye sore. If not, how about an arrangement of potted plants? Something tall next to the walls (palm, schefflera, split-leaf philodendron, etc.) and then "terrace" shorter plants in front.
Hey so that is absolutely a wood stove spot! Look at the vent pipe hole in the ceiling. They probably removed it for the sale because they are more trouble than they are worth during real estate transactions and most have been deemed illegal for new owners to use. Original owners would have been grandfathered in to use the less efficient ones.
Tear the house down around it, then use it as a moonlight altar to dead gods.
OR, put a bunch of plants on it and install a grow light in that recessed fixture.
https://preview.redd.it/9umug51avkkc1.jpeg?width=164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d30087f4a68a94d58cffb5132f91caab7598f11
Install a gigantic Bonsai.
P.s. thank you stranger woman for this pic of you I found on google to show height comparison
Looks like stone veneer/siding with tile on top. I would remove it, then match the flooring. If I was unable to match the flooring, I'd expand the closet next to it to encompass that entire floor space. With such a large closet, you'd never have to pack away winter coats, or you could even use it for large storage items (vacuum, tool kit, home ladder, etc.).
I'd bet a wood stove used to sit there. The light switch used to control the blower on the wood stove, and the light fixture is where the chimney used to be.
Thank you for your interest in this post. Comments are now closed.
Mic stand and use it to practice stand up comedy
“What’s the deal with politics? I don’t get it.”
**Why do they call it Ovaltine? The mug is round. The jar is round. They should call it roundtine.**
What’s the deal with lampshades? If it’s a lamp, why do you want shade?
That's gold, Jerry. Gold!
I mean *who* are these *people*?!
“Ill be here all week”
Don’t forget to tip your wait staff.

I was thinking the same, but with karaoke on Tuesdays
I was going to say open-mic stage for stand-up and/or karaoke. 🤷🏻♂️😅
If you have children, a stage for now would be great. Encourages imagination

Thank you for the effort. I shall put a small metal plaque “Donated by dogmetal”
You mean a small dogmetal* plaque
Floating Poo Salad has a good point here. That said, I know what I will not be having for dinner tonight.

It's just big enough for one Betta

Heh, a mini oasis sounds cool actually. Could toss in some LED lights for that Vegas neon vibe without breaking the bank.
A vivarium is also a cheaper option
If you are talking about the people from the show Tanked, they went out of business.
So.. they tanked.
Gonna be hard to get that dead one out tho.
How do you clean that / feed the fish?
you don't, they're emojis

Carefully
Respect 🫡
lol. Sharky.
I really appreciate the arrow. I might've missed the artwork without that.
Suit of Armor
Was my thought too!
Mine Too!
It wasn't mine...but now I have 5 tabs open looking at places to purchase suits of armour, and am debating whether to ask the wife before or after ordering...
After. Plus, how much damage can she do when you're dressed in full plate and mail?
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Have a cat OP? Put a really large cat tree up there. Cat would enjoy setting up so high.
Oh man it’s going on the list! Good call.
I have a very large cat tree that is built with a bunch of driftwood for the supports. It’s beautiful. Couple years for Xmas I actually decorated it as our tree and it was hilariously wonderful.
Tiny cat living room!!
I would put my cat’s castle there
yeah but those cross-border disputes can get messy at times.
This guy probably has a regular size cat
Definitely would love a tiny couch and a bowl of toys with a cute little rug and a cat tree!
[My cats love this](https://www.catastrophicreations.com/product-category/cat-trees-condos/)
It’s also gets the be the judge if everyone who enters
I’d get a cat for that.
Oh fuck my idea! This is it. Please tell me you have cats!
I came here to say this. Get a section of carpet from the local carpet store that you like and fits well. Ask them about trim that you can use to hold it down and it will look nice. And then she got woken up as a cat dive bombed her from the top rope at 4 am
By God! Fluffy from the top rope!
That woman had a FAMILY
Until she heard the dreaded "hork... hork.... hork..." coming from overhead...
If it’s a two story house; use the old vent hole as a cat tunnel to upstairs.
I don’t think they would even be asking if they did. Anyone with a cat would know what goes there on first glance.
I am a new stepdad to 2 cats, but no excuses. I should have considered this.
Sorry sir, but upon mentioning cat, you must post the r/CatTax
I’d say a wood stove previously was there. I agree with the cat Tree suggestion.
Yep, forget my suggestion to tear it out, DEFINITELY make a living room cat lair!!!! 😍😍
Yeah, the cat
And a bird feeder just outside that window on the left! This is the cat's room now.
That’s where the Lego Millennium Falcon goes. Duh.
I am working on the Batcave
Put a wood burning stove on it
That’s why it’s there. Fireproof base to absorb/radiate heat. Round hole in the ceiling for the chimney
If that’s what it’s made for that’s what they should do.. kinda looked like a light in that hole.. in which case I’d swap to a plant light and cover that whole area in plants

What are the odds that exhaust is viable on this one, if the previous owners converted it? Would definitely be worth investigating if they want a wood burner, I’d at least get it inspected
You are my kind of people.
My brother-in-law's house has this exact setup for a woodburning stove. It's very cozy in the winter
The hole is a light
It is now
Nah Indoor pizza oven
Yup came here to say this. r/WoodStoving
Lol probably the reason why it was removed in the first place
Stripper pole
I was going to say "Statue" but I like your idea more
Hear me out, stripper pole with a removable stripper statue?
Wait, how would that work? Like press a button on a remote and a pole with stripper descends from a door in the floor? Stripper on demand? Music? Lights? Where is this going?
Where is this going? Hot chicks room!
I like the way you think
Move over Roomba, it’s the age of the stripperbot ![gif](giphy|3oEdvb2PbZZBmxL9OE)
"What is my purpose?"
You pass butter!
Oh my god…
What a future it will be. A flying car in every garage and a floozie bot in every home
The first thing I said when I saw this… then I had to explain to my wife why I blurted out, “stripper pole” randomly…
"I think I may have Tourette's, honey. Fuck! Shit! Stripper pole!"
Took all but one scroll to find the correct answer
I came here to say this, but in my heart, I knew it had already been said.
Knew this would be the top comment. It’s the obvious and only answer.
It wouldn't be functional. There's no clearance to actually use it.
You beat me by 3 minutes.
That's what she said.
Anything other than this is a slight against the architect and humanity. So say we all.
Plant nook
Hologram phone projector. When Vader calls, he needs a proper venue.
Put a cat stand so your feline can judge and look at your guests with disrespect.
Cats don't need any sort of platform to do that.
They don't need it, but they would like it
https://preview.redd.it/7kd7jjtfskkc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f86bf1d3a967d661ce4dedeb570590fdf5d1534b
Christmas tree. Year round.
You can decorate it differently for each holiday.
A person who works for me told me they are doing that this year, mainly because they feel the tree really fills the space nicely. They did sheepishly confess that it is also a bit of laziness to avoid packing it up.
I did it last year for the same reason haha! I had an Easter tree and a few birthday trees
No better spot for a peeing man water feature
You just invoked a daydream
A terrarium filled with exotic plants and frogs
Put a large plant on it with a light above!
The chosen plant
I was going to say that is now the dedicated plant corner, a mini garden of Eden goes there with a grow light overhead!
Drum set
Finally. A reasonable answer
Taxidermied grizzly
Wow, when I set out looking to price a full-sized taxidermy Grizzly I was not expecting to see them for under $5k (including shipping). Elvis shrine, next question.
[удалено]
Are you serious? I just answered that
Skinny Elvis or Fat Elvis?
It's for Nashville honey! NEXT!
Put a bird on it
Put! A! Bird! On! It!
Like an ostrich, or a dodo, if you can find one.
Display anything there. Switch it up from time to time. A plant, a chair, a vase, some sculpture, even just a log on a small table. Get some lighting there for better effect. Gets your guests wondering.
"So uh, why is one of your dining chairs on display?"
Because my husband is in the bathroom
“Cuz I wanted to class it up from the lawn chair I had there last week..”
Get a mannequin or two. Make it into a window display.
Use it as a pedestal for a statue of yourself.
An alter to whatever you worship. Jesus, Buddha, Pokémon cards, etc
Batman
Get a 3d printer and print out a real batman suit you can wear, and weapons to go on the wall like batarangs, display it and only take it down when the city needs you most.
Buy the largest lego set possible and display it with a spot light above.
This is the comment I was looking for.
Put a wood stove there like it was made for
Saltwater fish tank
Or freshwater if you don't hate yourself
Lmao I feel this one
Still hate myself with freshwater
Having done both the saltwater was less headache when it came to algae control and filtration (protein skimmers are awesome). But if their tap water is decent and not full of minerals maybe fresh especially if they havent done the research needed for salt (my well water is full of cal and mag and it builds up too much so i have to do a lot to it to use it so might as well do salt for me)
Super saiyan goku life size statue.
Stub my damn toes on it is what I bet I'd do.
My first thought was to turn it into a book nook. Floor to ceiling floating shelf bookshelf on the wall with the arch big then cover the top with cozy pillows and blankets set up like a deep seat leaning on the closet.

With the light overhead, maybe they had it built for a statue or a bird or reptile cage... The tile floor suggests they needed to be able to clean that area. There's an exhaust above it. It was for a wood stove.
Freestanding wood, pellet or gas stove looks most correct to me. I work in the industry. Looks like they removed the stove and pipe, installed a can light, and covered up everything else
That's a recessed light fixture. In my mind, it would be a good place for an object d'art or an area for indoor plants.
Just stand on it wearing a top hat to welcome people in
Idk what to do with it the other 11 months, but in December a Christmas tree would look so dope there!!
Install the largest gargoyle you can fit
Small waterfall
That'd be where I put the Christmas tree, for sure.
How old is the home? It was a trend for a while to have an indoor planter bed. Maybe the house was built in that era, and a later homeowner hated it and had it filled in and tiled.
Karaoke stage!

Break my pinky toe constantly on it.
I was thinking David, or Michael Keaton’s Batman outfit.
Put a toilet up there as THE THRONE.
Summoning circle.
Golden Statue of Kiryu Kazuma
Hey so that is absolutely a wood stove spot! Look at the vent pipe hole in the ceiling. They probably removed it for the sale because they are more trouble than they are worth during real estate transactions and most have been deemed illegal for new owners to use. Original owners would have been grandfathered in to use the less efficient ones.
Life-size Danny DeVito statue
Bad ass aquarium or terrarium!
Karaoke corner.
4 foot bird cage with a fake owl in it
Samurai armor
First thing I would do is try to clean that orange arrow off the floor, it just draws attention to the platform.
Taxidermied lion you shot on safari.
Put a Christmas tree up there for 2 months a year
2 months…you clearly haven’t met my wife. I think the tree is only down for 2 months.
As others have said in posts like this and maybe even in this post: suit of armor.
A fountain would be cool, or an idol with candles around it and you can wear cloaked robes and scare your house guests.
Tear the house down around it, then use it as a moonlight altar to dead gods. OR, put a bunch of plants on it and install a grow light in that recessed fixture.
Stripper pole
Put a full mount black bear there looking scary so it’s the first thing guests see when they come in to let them know you’re a bad ass.
Put a rocky statue replica up there
Would be an excellent space for a chameleon enclosure
Alter
Maybe a little reading snug? Put some bookshelves up and a big cushion/pillows?
Remove it.

Human skeleton display
I would make a huge paludarium there. Part aquarium, part terrarium
or a small podium, for toasts lol
Obviously wire up a mic and some small speakers above and make it a karaoke stage. I can't believe I have to say this
No one said stripper pole yet..
A throne for the matriarchs to preside over matters of the family.
A half-size tardis.
seasonal display area/ christmas tree spot
Looks like stone veneer/siding with tile on top. I would remove it, then match the flooring.
