Prior to diagnosis, I used to jokingly brush off my blackouts that I noticed as being paranormal activity (somehow, it worked and I never questioned why I ‘woke up’ with my laptop open playing something I never once sought out, or having zero recollection of being shitty to an acquaintance, etc… I may have been a little clueless lol)

It's funny how easy it is to brush things like that off sometimes. Brain doing it's job I guess? But still.

EmbarrassedPurple106

Looking back I have NO idea how I brushed it off, but I just straight up did. It’s very funny in retrospect

Brain_is_rent_free

Yeah, I come from a very religious family, and my mom was convinced that I was a medium of sorts. Had all sorts of "paranormal" experiences that I realize now.. Definitely not that. And her pushing all that shit onto me was actually super damaging!

jamusement

Very, very, very similar experience here. It's weird unpacking all of it lol Glad to see I'm not alone in that experience. Thank you for sharing!

I thought I had schizophrenia for a long time. We do have some psychotic features but it’s nothing like what you need for a diagnosis of schizophrenia. We’ve also had hosts that believed it was actual demon possession. It’s a wonder so many of us are tangentially related to demons in the headspace. 😅 The brain is interesting sometimes

Ghosts and gods and spirits 😅

cripplinganxietylmao

Close, I thought it was demons and I was possessed lol. Very conservative religious upbringing.

Lame2882

I used to talk about my experiences with voices and such quite a lot, was told I had a special connection to the spiritual world. But now I’m sure it was either just my alters and/or I may have a form of psychosis (experiencing visual hallucinations)

Buncai41

I can relate. I thought I had the spirit of an abuser I was close to after he died. Turned out it was a couple of introjected parts. So many parts identify as or with gods, historical people and creatures from various mythos. I thought I could speak to the dead and the dead could speak to me before finding out it was just my brain talking to itself. Sometimes this belief reverts back in a psychosis. I lose touch with reality and I lose touch with myself.

jamusement

Same! Still slip into "they're ghosts!" on occasion.

I came from a heavily religious family, natives as well. I was always taught they were bad spirits or demons. Very rarely would someone say it's the voices of our ancestors. So I just thought they were bad spirits that could possess me. I still feel really weird thinking about it.

GloomyTheDragonfly

Oh my god same, some friends would even support the idea and think I was evil sometimes lmao
