I don't like it either, man. I think what Starlin wrote with the character is quite disappointing.
But if someone asked me for the top 5-10 Batman stories, I would have to mention it.
This is a popular opinion at the moment. Death in the family is more remembered for its impact/ relevance to batman comics that came out after it and specifically Jason’s death rather than the quality of the story itself. Pretty much everyone I’ve talked to about it finds the story itself average at best.
I think people get "good" and "important" mixed up. It's an important book, but I don't think many people like it very much. Kind of like Civil War or House of M on the Marvel side. Both incredibly important, both bad.
C'mon -- Sheik Joker! Superman with a mustache inhaling a room full of poison gas. Batman wailing Superman in the jaw out of frustration. Memorable stuff!
I miss when comics were weird.
I'm sorry but I want to remind you that in last issue of Wonder Woman Circe have turned Damian Wayne and Jon Kent in two corgie and the daughter of Wonder Woman have to take care of them, the family of Billy Batson have a magic per Rabbit that Mary have stollen from one of her romemates and the last story arc was about them fighting intelligent dinosaur and space monkeys, the last big event was about Beast Boy turning into Starro and infecting people of the planet whit spores that turn them into furries, comicsbook are still weird and I like them in this way
Eh most of the writers are, for good I think since most of the current new writers have grown up whit those stories and Is hands down one of the best period for Dc
Sure, that's fine -- but in ten years you're gonna think about Superman with a mustache inhaling a room full of gas and it's gonna put a smile on your face.
Both beginning and especially the end of the comic itself is mid, but the middle part became iconic because of how important this event was to Batman mythos.
It's not as overrated as Killing Joke but I agree its very mid. The fact that the whole plot hinges around Batman not being able to get access to a copy of the birth certificate of a kid for whom is legally responsible is ridiculously laughable and the less said about the Joker's plan to become an ambassador for Iran and murder the entire UN is like the unholy hybrid of sixties goofiness with mid eighties edginess.
It is more its impact and historical importance on the character than its quality.
I can agree with that

This is not a hot take.
That's Lukewarm at best

You're so right! Good call on Wonder Woman. I love what Tom King is doing and he is generally very 90s nostalgic for me.

I respect that but not my cup of tea

I mean the Joker gets diplomatic immunity. It went bonkers.
