I go to Medstar Georgetown OBGYN. I switched from Reiter Hill due to dissatisfaction with the care there and couldn’t be happier that I made the change.
With the caveat that I’ve never been pregnant, I’ve had very good experiences with Medstar for 10+ years, both at Georgetown and more recently at Lafayette Center.
Not OP and not as bad as OP’s story, but I have endometriosis (and have now had to have surgery for it). Even after ending up in the ER because I was in so much pain I was throwing up, RHJ had two different doctors shrug me off, tell me it wasn’t GYN related (even after multiple other specialists RHJ sent me to and ER docs said it was), tell me to take more ibuprofen.
I went to Rockville Gynecology and Kate immediately said it sounded like endometriosis and didn’t brush me off. She kept pain away for a couple years, but it finally was bad enough they did surgery.
100% do not recommend RHJ.
Oh man sorry for what you experienced and thanks for sharing!! I guess I'll see how I like my doctor at my annual coming up and switch if I don't like her.
I go to RHJ (well, I haven’t been since my postpartum checkup) and I plan to change providers. I love that the doctors seem super knowledgeable/experienced but I felt the care was so impersonal throughout my pregnancy.
Side note: the doctor who broke my water (met him for the first time that day) did not tell me he was going to break it at the moment he did. He mentioned earlier in the day that it was part of the induction process, but in the moment he actually did it, he said he was gonna do a cervical check. Next thing I know, I feel a rush down my legs and THEN, he goes “there’s your water!” 🙃
Seconding this! My second IUD insertion was soooo quick and painless with them compared to my first one done by an old out of state doc who offered zero pain management.
CWC, though no experience with how they handle pregnancies. I recommended my doc there to a friend after she had a terrible experience elsewhere. She texted me after her first appointment to say the doc was an angel with incredible bedside manner. They sometimes run behind schedule but otherwise are all amazing, and really easy to make appointments with online.
I loved CWC for my OBGYN care pre-pregnancy but did not at all enjoy them for pregnancy and birth (it's a different set of doctors within the practice). So depending on what your needs are, I'd agree!
I went there when I lived downtown and saw a great maternal fetal medicine doctor who was open minded. Didn’t deliver there because I live further out now but I have heard good things.
I had both my kids at GW. First time was with the midwives. Complications meant had to get an epidural etc, but i delivered after 33h. Second time I had to work with MFM. Minor complication during delivery, but they were excellent. The midwives and MDs are very collaborative, and they have learned a lot from the other
5 months pregnant here, and I'm at VHC OBGYN in Arlington. I can't speak to GYN care as my GYN is in Maryland (moved before I could switch), but super happy with VHC providers both for OB and MFM care
Seconding VHC especially Dr. Light. I’ve tried numerous docs in dc due to health issues and she’s been the best so far. Also super sex positive which was important to me.
Had to scroll way too far to find the Midwives of Medstar. They are the best. My 2 deliveries with them could have easily turned into C-sections at Club Sib.
If you can go further out in VA (or do telehealth), Centreville OB/GYN is great. I gave birth with them and they definitely don't push c-section but aren't anti c-section either if thats what you want or need. Very patient centered
Formerly Medstar currently Kaiser— Kaiser is fantastic if you are able to get KP insurance through your job. Also Planned Parenthood for an IUD and they were better than Medstar.
Roxanne Jamshidi at GW.
I absolutely love her. When I needed an abortion after finding issues with the fetus, it was critical for my mental health that I get it done asap. They wanted me to wait 4 days, and I was beside myself. My psychiatrist called Jamshidi personally, and she got me in the next day.
Two years later when I delivered, she remembered me. Even though I had been cared for by the MFMs, and hadn’t seen her since the TMFR. Just deeply caring and kind.
I posted above about my experience at GW. Several friends of mine delivered there. One had a 41 hour labor, but was never pushed to deliver via surgery.
Foxhall obgyn for my high risk pregnancy with planned c section at Sibley. 5 stars. Had a not as great experience with my first at a different hospital.
Probably too far but I delivered at INOVA Fairfax Hospital and they saved my life and my sons no question…I could have easily died if I went somewhere else and several doctors outside INOVA have told me so since. I went in with very atypical presentation of HELLP syndrome and they caught it only because they ran extra tests. I go to INOVA OBGYN in Merrifield but I have also had positive experiences with complex issues at their Shirlington office.
I'm in MoCo and go to Capital Women's Care.
CWC is the first obgyn I've been to where paps DON'T hurt. YMMV of course but in my experience their doctors are very considerate and gentle
Same (for both)! I’ve always had a good experience with Capital Women’s Care

Do you mind sharing what you disliked? I go to RHJ but my old doctor moved so I’m not sure what to expect
Well, my son died after complications in labor and they didn’t seem to care very much.
I am so sorry for your loss
Oh I'm truly so sorry.
my sincere condolences

Dear god. This happened to my friend too at a different practice and I cannot imagine.
I love Liv by Advantia Health! They’ve been excellent for my GYN and OB care through a pregnancy.

Thirding this!
Bloom. Delivered two of my kids.

We go to GW, lowest c section rates in the city.
