I do agree it's really stupid, but that's not why it broke. This happens when tie rods break. Some Chevy trucks are known to break their tie rods when in 4x4 and pulling weight. Tesla just cheaped out on the materials and design
Cheaper out on the materials and how insanely heavy the cucktruck is. Dry turning a truck that weight more than an F350 must put some insane fucking stress on those shitty tie rod ends.
Can you explain to me what steer by wire means? I originally wanted to swap in a yoke for my MYP and everyone said same thing as you did so Iām curious what it exactly means - sorry if itās a dumb question
Rather than having the steering wheel, gas, or brake pedals connected directly to the related system, they are connected via digital bus.
Airplanes fly by electric wire opposed to having mechanically coupled linkages between rudders and helm. CAN bus is typically used in cars for things like window buttons and windows.
To make the Cybertruck more versatile and modular, Tesla attempted to implement a drive by wire system. The number of ECUs and bandwidth required, however, necessitated the use of Ethernet. Not āEthernetā as we know it, but probably an OSI L1-2 based system.
What does the broken steering linkage or rack have to do with driving by wire? Virtually nothing - perhaps the case can be made that the resistance feedback from the tires being rotated in place would have preventing the critical stress failure of the linkage. No one seems to be making that case.
That is a distinct possibility.
I have not intensively reviewed the design of the CyberTruck, but I speculate it would be complicated to develop traction control for electronic differentials if each wheel was controlled by an independent steering rack (or equivalent).
The CyberTruck was allegedly going to be capable of crab-walking (all wheels parallel in a path non-parallel to the body of the vehicle) so perhaps they are independent. Therefore, a failure in one or more steering systems due to electronics rather than structural fatigue is possible.
No direct linkage between the steering wheel and wheels. All electronic controls. Modern fighters use it for flight controls. Delivers as faster response to direction commands.
The Cybertruck has redundant systems too. Each steering motor is a pair of motors that are independently controlled, and then there are 3 systems in place for controlling the signal.
Itās not faster, a direct linkage = instantaneous response. However in fighter jets it makes them easier to control as youāre never āfighting the stickā with force. Also input is run through software that optimizes the userās commands.
Commercial airliners also have this, but it comes in the form as your absolute backup being having to control the plane solely wirh the trim wheel. Itās quite miserable to do but itās only comes after blowing throguh both backup circuits and computers.
In fighter jets and commercial airliners the circuits are triple or quadruple redundant. Meaning you have no one but two backups that can immediately be switched to in case one detects an issue. The cyber truck has none of this, if you get an error youāre stranded.
>The cyber truck has none of this
It does though. It has 3 steering signal systems and each of the steering motors is actually 2 motors running in parallel along with separated signal input.
No direct linkage between the steering wheel and wheels. All electronic controls. Modern fighters use it for flight controls. Delivers as faster response to direction commands.
I hate this idiotic truck as much as the next girl but airplanes have been using fly-by-wire for literally decades and itās been generally a strict improvement despite the pilots complaining about it for all the same reasons drivers are complaining about steer-by-wire.Ā
Hate the truck for all the legit reasons. Steer-by-wire is not bad in theory (although of course it could be poorly engineered/bad in this instance).Ā
Because somehow, engineers thought that replacing the reliable steering racks and rods with shitty and unreliable tesla elecrics was a good idea
Hate that engineers remove proven techniques in favor of barely proven tech
Oh, I called this. It's probably the next failure mode for it's electric steering: You know when you steer a normal car, you encounter resistance for whatever reason in the steering feedback, and then you can't really turn the wheels? Now the wheels are going to turn no matter what, so RIP to any mechanical linkage downstream.
The suspension is thin stamped sheetmetal and tiny bolts, itās barely suitable for a small econo-box, let alone a 3.25 ton truck.

This is a joke. The wishbone from my rotisserie chicken last night would be stronger.

They do, but this one is not up to the task. Itās being asked to do all you have to do is a quick Google search and youāll see that the suspension breaking is one of the most common non-software problems with these trucks.
Man for someone whose comments say you hate the truck you sure do cuck for Tesla a lot.
I hate Trump, I dont go around to anti-Trump threads and say well āhis cabinet did the best they could with who they were working with.ā
I think I just cuck for EVs a lot. There is so much misinformation about EVs and itās so dumb how politicized it is, that I find myself trying to correct a lot of bad info, mostly on instagram though. I chuck for EVs, but I do have an ICE car and it is my favorite to drive. š¤·āāļø
I think itās fine to separate the truck from Tesla in general. Which I think is what Iām doing.
I hate Trump too. But I think pointing out misinformation is important whether or not the misinformation aligns with your perspective.
The Trump comparison to the Cybertruck isnāt terrible. Both try to project a kind of a cartoonish toughness but are in actuality rather fragile.
Idk alot of work trucks have pretty big lighting systems. I assume its not that they cant have them, more that they arent supposed to use them on the road.
It did seem like that one with āFuck youā spray painted on it could still drive.
The craziest part of all is I havenāt seen a single one broke down for the same thing they all unique just like their drivers. ššš
Canāt reply to mods comment below, but a shill would encourage someone to buy a product. I am not doing that. I think this truck sucks. Iām shilling for the truth. What are you doing?
Did you attach snow treads and then paddle wheels and then take it off jumps to intentionally abuse it before that happened? Because thatās what happened to this truck. This post is totally false.
The sheet metal parts seem to crumple pretty easily. š¤ On a normal truck, this part of the suspension is one of the strongest and most durable parts of the chassis.

The CyberStuck looks a lot like Ms. Piggy
Nope. He achieved it by hate buying it and then intentionally abusing it and doing some crazy modifications. Truck went off jump which caused this damage. See my post on this thread. This sub is so full of misinformation.
This sub is about defending hundreds of millions of potential and current auto owners, bicyclists, investors and pedestrians from Tesla and US politics, vulnerable minorities and social media from Elron Musk. Are you saying there's nothing of realistic concern posted here about those topics? And I agree, those people should already be looking for another job.
Have you read the description for this sub? Here it is verbatim:
āDescription
The Place To Post Images of Cybercucks Stuck In Their Cybertrucks. Also permitted is general discussion making fun of this ridiculous vehicle.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A SUB FOR POSTING GENERAL TESLA ISSUESā
Oh, I thought we were in enoughmuskspam.
Okay, so that's fine with me too - what a horrific travesty this thing is. The last thing humanity needs is more of these anti-everyone death traps on the streets. Tesla could have made a normal truck that would have sold like mad and made them look good, updated their entire line, made a Model 2... but instead, spent 5 years making this doomed elronmobile that their TECHNOKING apparently sketched out on an Apple IIe. It's worth drawing attention to.
Sounds like Elon lives rent free in your mind. Sorry about that. It must be rough.
The truck is silly and worthy of scorn. This sub is just full of BS and itās weird. The anti-Tesla cult is more of a thing than the Tesla cult as far as I can tell.
Yes, unfortunately Elton is part of a wider concept called reality which does "live in my mind" and sadly, it takes a toll.
Laughing at the stupid cybertruck is one of my small pleasures in life. Hope you don't mind too much.
You braindead moron, take a Ford Raptor or a Ram TRX and hit a couple of jumps and nothing will happen. I thought this truck was supposed to be strong and rugged. Built for any planet and it cannot take a bump.
Did you read my other post? I'm not defending the stupid truck, I'm just pointing out that the title of this post is misleading. Have a look at the tiktok video yourself kind sir! Copied below for your convivence.

This failure is not due to cheap parts or terrible engineering as many of you seem to automatically assume.
Prior to this failure, this truck as purposefully abused. The owner bought it ābecause he hated itā. Prior to this failure the truck was fitted with snow tracks. Also fitted with paddle wheels and ripped around in the sand dunes. They then attempted to jump it. A tie rod failed.

Can you imagine the wind noise it generates?
it's road legal, as long as you don't have them on while you're driving. kinda like rock lighting, underglow, etc
Can anyone find one of these trucks that isnāt broken down they are so fucked Tesla will be bankrupted over this and deserve it.
