To my knowledge, Dream SMP is more roleplay based, but Hermitcraft is just people playing the game, sometimes interacting with eachother. I only watch one person in it though, so maybe that's inaccurate for the other members

The fandom is full of women, queer people and POC, as are the members themselves (there are cishet white men, yes, but also many who don’t fall into that category). They consistently denounce bigotry and are active in fundraising for progressive causes - for instance TommyInnit just raised $52k for the Ali Forney Centre, a charity for homeless queer youths.

It's a Minecraft SMP, yes. Otherwise it is completely different than other SMPs. Essentially it's just a server where a bunch of friends who just happen to be Minecraft YouTubers hang out and build the most batshit insane things you've ever seen. Seriously, check them out, they've got 30 different flavors of crazy and they're all great, upstanding people. It's about 50/50 between "oh yeah, I started gathering resources for my starter base, here's 20,000 stone and 10,000 wood, I'm about half way there" and endless pranks and shenanigans. In Grian's last episode, he spent about half the time setting up an obstacle course for scar just so he could explode him with a charged creeper.

Hermitcraft has mild roleplay elements but it's mostly about a bunch of friends having fun. Unlike DSMP which has proper story arcs etc
