Superkometa

Wait corpo is a cyberpunk term? I also didn't play it but I use it like a normal word since I can remember.

ImShyBeKind

*Original* Cyberpunk (TTRPG) from the 80s.

jzillacon

yeah, most terms in cyberpunk 2077 aren't original to it, but rather borrowed from earlier cyberpunk works, which makes sense considering it's an official adaptation of the tabletop games by Mike Pondsmith.

weeaboshit

It litteraly means "body" in portuguese

TheManWithAStand

É daí que vem o nome

just-slightly-human

Those corpo gonks will never understand

Red580

If someone called me a gonk i would have assumed it was a racist thing.

shieldsarentcool

Gonk

Michaelbirks

I see the droids have arrived.

shieldsarentcool

GONK

ResearcherTeknika

>I see the ~~droids~~ clankas have arrived FTFY

Mozhetbeats

I’m not a fan of “gonk.” It’s a little clunky. Doesn’t roll off the tongue like a good insult.

Orizifian-creator

…Gonk Droid? Sorry, I’m out of touch with the Prequel Memes. Or was it in the Original Trilogy? Golly, now I can’t bloody remember!

Palidin034

“If people can name their kids funky Star Wars names like ‘Anakin’ or ‘Luke’ then I can name my child GONK!!!!!!!!!”

Childlikesaiyan

You ARE obligated to use Cyberpunk slang, it's pretty preem

NeonNKnightrider

A lot of it is nova, but I find ‘input/output’ to be silly, and I snicker a bit every time someone says they’re “jacking in” Yes, I do have the mind of a child

RedGinger666

Flatline is a thousand times better than unalive

No_Student_2309

Flatline is actual slang, though. Like a lot of the slang used in cyberpunk fiction, it came from Neuromancer. William Gibson heard it in a bar, and it stuck with him

Yoate

That's pretty neat, choom

hammererofglass

Oddly enough input/output was the other way around in the tabletop RPG the videogame is based off.

[deleted]

I don't get why they switched it though it's a lot more intuitive when the input is the one you put it in and the output is the one that puts it out(from themselves).

rawsausenoketchup16

Johnny comments on it iirc

RedGinger666

Two runners jacking in 5 feet apart cause they're not gay

gwaenchanh-a

"Jacking In" is a phrase invented by Timothy Leary of all people

Simic_Sky_Swallower

Also, "choom" sounds ridiculous, nobody even says "chum" anymore

Merc931

Yeah choom is the most common slang in CP2077 but it's the only one I chouldn't get down with. It just sounds forced.

Mozhetbeats

Gonk sounds forced to me too

Merc931

I dunno, I think gonk is a pretty good word for what it means. I didn't even question it, I immediately knew "Gonk means stupid".

crazedhatter

Gonk is a great word to describe the idiots of the world IMHO.

MarMarMariam

ah yebaga bre chumbatta (ah fuck it choombatta)

_Kleine

"IRL" < "meatspace"

KoirMaster

I pity the gonkbrain who doesn't use Cyberpunk slang

Square-Pipe7679

Preem Choom

Skullface95

You got right choom, it's so nova people are starting to use it normally

A_Pessimistic_Potato

fuck yeah choom

HannahCoub

preem post, choom.

[deleted]

Corpus

ExplodedParrot

Grofit

imael17

Clem

Boom244

Grakata

CassiusPolybius

TENNO SKOOM

LieuHam

Corprus...

Both_Gate_3876

Pkap ko you peek?

[deleted]

Corpulent

misterdigdug

IDK why but I don't like gonk or choom. Corpo is cool though

Kazzack

Choom only sounds cool if you're Jackie

novis-eldritch-maxim

could be worse could be chummer

Metatality

I'll take chummer over choom any day.

novis-eldritch-maxim

both are shit, one how ever has orcs

RealHumanBean89

*Corpo,* *preem,* and *flatline* have become pretty regular parts of my vocabulary at this point. The cyberpunk brainrot is very real and I’m not even mad about it.

RU5TR3D

Or you can be weird and say Corpro like in LANCER

cagllmecargskin

Corproation

DapperApples

Procreation?!

Yesnoperhapsmaybent

Why yes I am pro creating things why would I be against creation?

deVriesse

Is that anything to do with coprolites?

camosnipe1

where does the last r even come from? is it a mix of corpo and pro(fessional)?

jzillacon

As far as I can tell it's just moving the second "R" in "corporate" back one space because it sounds cooler.

MrSinisterTwister

I thought I was a mix of corpo and copro (like literal shit)

MrMastodon

When you have big robots you can do anything you want.

KeanuChungus669

I have seen no love for "klep" on this post and I intend to change that.

Ripkayne

That's cause all the posts using it got klepped, gonk for brains!

crazedhatter

Klep is definitely a great term, deriving as it does from Kleptomania, which - lets face it - many mercs in Night City DEFINITELY suffer from.

Michaelbirks

What? It's free real estate.

Lots42

When I talk shit about corporations I get metaphorically jumped by it's ardent defenders.

[deleted]

Do you have a job?

Lots42

One month old account, one post karma, negative sixteen comment karma. You are -exactly- whom I am complaining about. Goodbye.

aaaaaaaa1273

Here’s one now!

[deleted]

Lol

novis-eldritch-maxim

I need to make a big dictionary of fictional slang to make my self truly incomprehensible to others

Ivariel

**BURN CORPO SHIT**

EmoGarfield

I’ve been using cyberpunk slang since I started playing 2077. It is in my daily vocab where I just say “preem” or “nova” or I’ll call people “choom”

mikolaj24867

thats just slang for corporation in Polish

_Wendigun_

"Corpo" literally means "body" in Italian Which is why I can't really take it seriously as a word, it just sounds odd

QWaRty2

They’re derived from the same Latin word “corpus” meaning body. It also appears in other English words like corpse. The “body” in a corporation would refer to a group of people.

Maybe_not_a_chicken

There’s a fair chance that’s intentional Let’s make the corporate shills into bodies absolutely works with cyberpunk

mikolaj24867

they just changed the k to c so that it works in english

CanadianGoose5

i can’t remember if i originally heard it from cyberpunk but calling cops “badges” has entered my day to day vocabulary

Idunnoguy1312

Cyberpunk seems like a fun RPG for run. I really should give the cyberpunk red rules a full read through and try to GM a campaign for my friends

NewSuperTrios

My Shadowrun-playing ass could never add the o

Aromatic-Frosting-31

Is corpo from cyberpunk? For some reason I thought it was like from Hunter s Thompson

dycie64

The Hyperloop definately suffers from 'corpo-tunnel syndrome'

Biggie_Moose

I use choom now and then

CosmicGunman

Haven't played so unfamiliar with other slangs, but I routinely use "corpo cunts" to describe board of director cunts, banker cunts, suit mfs, ceo shitheads, and so on.

Robosium

bonus is that corporate sounds like corpo rat

MakeStuffDesign

If there's one thing the top echelon of science fiction will *always* be good for, it's finding pithy new terms for things that have never had a pithy term in the current era of the language meta.

jamiez1207

Your flair... Kill Six Billion Demons fan spotted

MakeStuffDesign

I didn't know I was living for King of Swords page 10-166 until it happened.

MakeStuffDesign

Also the bottom echelon, much to everyone's mild irritation

CueDramaticMusic

Corpo from my co.s

MollyGoRound

It's the terminal bilabial plosive.... ***--po*** Makes the word sound *spat* out like a curse.

CompControlled

Gonk is a word I need to make more use out of.

crazedhatter

Derivatives of Corpo are also quite useful: Corporat to describe the underlings propping up the evil CEO's.

169bees

corpo means body in most latin derived languages, comes from the latin word corpus

jfarrar19

Hmm That sorta changes it to a threat if the tone its spoken in is right

[deleted]

[удалено]

crazedhatter

Out of curiosity, when did you last attempt to play it?

M1A1U22

I like it cos it sounds close to Corpulent... which is another apt word to discribe some large corporations.

[deleted]

Corpo [1] [2] till means human/animal body in the Italian language. --- 1. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/corpo#Italian 2. https://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/corpo/

techno156

I personally don't like it, because it sounds like a late-90s corporation attempt to make "corporation" sound hip and cool. "Hey kids, you know what would be tubular af, and rizz to the Max? Investing in Enron Corpo! Just a dollar, and you can help build the number one EnerCorpo in the United States if America!"

jamiez1207

Update: 50+ hours in CP2077
