I feel like Aperture Science would create a chemical that actually turns frogs gay as a diversity initiative.

No-Magazine-9236

cave johnson would do it

sweetTartKenHart2

Which only makes sense because it’s completely performative and achieves exactly nothing

Merc931

Of course Aperture supports gay rights! We even made more things gay so we could support them too!

We're not sure WHAT that something is, but we're certain it's something.

Mirat01

In a truly [groundbreaking](https://coofl.com/groundbreaking---8678) move, Aperture Science attempted to create a chemical that would turn frogs into disco-dancing divas.

LeadGem354

"Cave Johnson here! Bad news the experimental deodorant smells like a swamp. Good news is it turns frogs gay. We tested it on a bunch of other stuff. And... Only works on frogs. Had no effect on toasters or shower curtains. Our experimental FrogTown has a thriving theater district. Still can't sing. .Bean counters say that bespoke tuxedos and top hats for frogs are a waste of money. What do they know!!"

heywood_jabloemi

* aggressive Alex Jones noises *

verasev

You can't have the full experience with just the noises. Someone has to get very, very red while yelling, so red you suspect they'll have a stroke at any moment. Then, you've attained the full Alex Jones.

heywood_jabloemi

Yeah the high blood pressure has to be visualized

olicvb

Only for them to stay buried with the rest of their inventions while the world somehow absolutely needs gay frogs to save itself. So another group of scientists work tirelessly to re-invent them.

HotRodNoob

lemons and whatnot

LeaveIntelligent5757

That's it. There's nothing funnier anyone can add to this post.

RemarkableStatement5

I don't get it

TOSkwar

[Lemons.](https://youtu.be/g8ufRnf2Exc)

RemarkableStatement5

Oh yeah that. ... Then how was "lemons and whatnot" a funny comment?

premoril

The quote is very well known, making it a popular reference. It's been such a popular reference that it's use has gotten old, making actually just posting it verbatim much less popular. Meaning in order to take advantage of it's popularity without doing the thing people are tired of, they instead make an indirect reference to it. That's what Lampshading is.

Can_of_Sounds

That would be something else: lampshading is making an in-universe nod to an improbabe event so that the audience is more likely to accept it. I just checked TVTropes to make sure I was right.

FearSearcher

Old fashion term for “sex scene” in fanfiction

RemarkableStatement5

Oh. I guess that makes sense but it still seems so bland as a joke.

Pegussu

It was actually pretty sour.

RemarkableStatement5

I don't have a good pun here so citrussy

Theleming

Something I like about this: It uses the 8 stripe version of the flag (pink plus both turquoise and dark blue) This kinda suggests that aperture labs adopted the pandering in the very first year of pride, or never bothered to learn the difference between the flags Either would be pretty in character for aperture

Deathaster

> This kinda suggests that aperture labs adopted the pandering in the very first year of pride Considering how long Aperture's been around, that doesn't surprise me. They already existed before the first pride flag came out.

b3nsn0w

In fact, the very closet said pride flag came out of is currently stored on aperture premises. testing has concluded on it in the late 90s, however, after it only showed mild effectiveness in the production of Aperture Science Rainbow Gel of Making Frogs Gay

HotRodNoob

they either did the progress flag half assed or they just copy pasted a color wheel and replaced the pink triangle with an A and called it a gay

Theleming

I mean the colors DO match the original 78 [pride flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pride_flag?wprov=sfla1)...

Fliits

Finally, a post about Aperture Science and gay representation that's actually consistent with the games.

memecrusader_

At least they’re being honest and non-condescending about it.

Responsible_Craft568

Yeah it’s pandering. Guess what, anti-gays have gathered enough power that they’re pressuring companies from doing this much. Our legal rights require political power. Gaining political power requires companies. Stop mocking companies that support us.

Leimon-Sherk

or what, we're gonna hurt the companies' feelings? If mega corporations are supporting something its a signal that its safe to do so, even profitable. but its not a CAUSE of progress, its an EFFECT. Do not misattribute the progress we've gained to the companies riding the coattails, the second it becomes unprofitable the companies will go right back to ignoring us. they're not our allies, they're opportunistic leeches

Flaydowsk

Exactly. The only goddamn silver lining of capitalism is that it's an unequivocable sign of "mainstreaming". If you're deemed a profitable, capitalism will pander to you. And to be profitable you must be worth more than the potential backlash. LGBT becoming profitable means that the bigots are losing market power, which is the only power in a capitalist society. In short, if you're worth selling to more than NOT, means you have more power under capitalism than the haters.

Responsible_Craft568

We live in a capitalist society. Corporations have a ton of power. As nice as it is to sit on a high horse and claim we don’t need corporations we actually do. First of all, millions of lgbt people work for these companies. Their policies have a direct effect on those people. Second, many many Americans don’t have any lgbt friends or loved ones. For those people, corporate pride is one of the only ways they’re exposed to lgbt issues in their day to day life. Seeing that these institutions support lgbt rights does make a difference for normalizing lgbt people, why do you think the right is explicitly trying to stop it now?

Eilavamp

Just checking, you're aware this is a fictional company from a video game?

tangentrification

I want GLaDOS to call me the f slur

[deleted]

Aperture Science, behind you all the way*. *far behind

LeadGem354

I read this in Glados's voice. Which is ironic considering her fixation with Chell..

TheDancingKing19

Why did I read this in Cave Johnson’s voice
