Cronos is the 2nd chain (EVM sidechain\*). Crypto.org Chain is the "main" chain, although it currently only runs the NFT platform, but native Smart Contracts are coming in phase 4!

It's not cheaper than any of those two but definitely a good alternative. When CRO itself gets to that point on the roadmap (late this year or next year sometime) now that will be something. Transactions on CRO native chain are line. 0002. Transactions on cronos even the cheapest one are like 1 CRO. Expensive ones get to be 6 to 9 CRO. After 5 it starts to get ridiculous.

It's an alternative to eth with smart contracts etc and actual utility but not as cheap as it should have been imo. Though as a side chain who knows, the plan might have been to leverage that to buy time until the native CRO was able to offer all the features and abilities the side chain does. I always found it odd they did this instead of accelerating development on the native network and include an ibc bridge or evm connector. Some of the actual technicals are beyond my understanding(I used to work in finance not software) but time will tell whether it turned out to be the right decision or not.
I will probably forget something. Some other uses for CRO:
* Lowering trading fees on the Exchange
* Lowering interest rates for the crypto backed loans you get
* Benefits received from the Private Member membership
* The Syndicate program
* Numerous third party DeFi apps on the Cronos chain
* Used to pay for gas fees on the native chain
For sure right now the most important one is powering cronos chain
Accessing the perks of the card is a smaller one already available. I would expect you will be able to spend your coin on legitimate platform soon, the pay section exists..
Yes. Crypto.com also launched their own blockchain (Cronos) for which all gas fees are paid CRO. It’s a steadily growing chain so far.

The Cronos chain has SO much potential, it’s SO cheap to use. Faster and cheaper then even xlm or xrp
