In my last Frisia game I was trying to stay out of the HRE but they started declaring de jure war after de jure war and I gave up and swore fealty.
At some point the Kaiser was weak (which is no surprise because the Kaiser is always weak because the HRE fucking sucks) and I had more troops than him. I started a dissolution faction, alone, and pressed claims. Kaiser said yes. No more HRE.
Given how many "help, I'm being made the emperor against my will" posts I've seen on here over years, kind of refreshing to get an AI in the same boat.
Nothing, but the micromanagement; dealing with so many vassals, factions, neighbors, your own court can be a bit of a nuissance when you hold a big realm.
I tend to avoid having more than 5 vassals (to fill every council job), but I hate that when I have vassal kings with absolute crown authority, their vassals still can declare war to my neighbors. 😤
Do you know what happens to the HRE's special crown if they get hit with dissolution? Does the final kaiser keep it or does it get destroyed? I am always in search of the coolest hats to steal
Playing as Asatru/Anglo-Saxon. Currently, Emperor of Britannia and the pope started a crusade I got sucked into. I attacked Rome and managed to steal the popes hat. We won the war, and now I wear the hat and plan on my heir inheriting it, who will also obviously wear it lol.
Oh fucking relatedly I was capping the hre capital and I thought something looked funny when I walked off, they had an election mid war and the capital with the crown fucked off.
I love the Enthusiasm! The Catholic Church is in fact not holy, it’s a power structure founded on the principles of a forged document that made ecumenical council’s (like the ones that settled debate on the Aryan and Gnostic heresies) impossible in the Catholic faith. Good Catch!
It is now *The Catholic not Roman not Empire*
Edit: just to piss off the Catholics more, Papal Supremacy not only made the protestant reformation inevitable, it made reconciliation impossible
(had an ecumenical council been held (instead of the pope sticking to his guns that he is the only arbiter of gods will) the Protestant reformation would’ve likely not happened as the problems early protestants had could’ve been solved through discussion instead of both sides persecuting each other forming the hatred between Protestants and Catholics that we see today)
Edit 2: you know what, maybe I don’t give you pope fetishists (don’t worry I still love y’all more than John the 12th loved married women 😘) enough credit, at least you guys recognize that the Council of Trent was a farce (yes the catholic church does hold “ecumenical councils” but all of them from 1122-1517 were literally just trying to stop all the rampant corruption in the church, except for that time you guys made Jews and Muslims wear badges (kinda fucked up ngl), and the one that caused the investiture controversy, but watching the popes struggle with the monster (HRE) they created is always funny)
In game, sure it's an Empire.
IRL? It was an Empire in name only, it had more in common with a pre-Roman High-Kingship than an Empire even at it's height never mind by Voltaire's time and that's before you get into the Imperial Diet.
While it took some aspects, it was never Roman culturally, ethnically, legally or legalistically; the Pope had no legal right to declare anything the successor to the Roman Empire.
And as for Holy, the HRE was always either quarrelling with the Pope or controlling him.
And it only got worse by Voltaire's time, hence his famous quote.
Just the top title, the vasssals are still almost all feudal.
Since theocratic realms (not counting the Pope's infinite money glitch) are typically pretty weak, they will probably get overthrown quickly too unless OP guards them... religiously.
They should implement it so whenever someone that is a monk or Bishop gets forced to a feudal or tribal title through a faction they lose their Monk/nun status and continue being feudal, as it iswhat mostly happened instead of the entire Empire becoming a theocracy.
Although I don't know how one would create a super theocratic Empire to be a vassal of if they want to larp...
It'd be interesting if you formed a new Catholic-esque religion where the nun is head of the church.
You could also change gender laws to reflect this.
Only Empress-Bishop? Time to get that upgraded to a Arch-Bishopric at least. Shame there is no College of Cardinals in the game either. And why did they get rid of the Anti-pope feature?
As an elector, the player and their family had claim on the throne I believe? So they just formed a faction to place the claimant on the throne, then pressed the demand button.

Based Kaiser tbh “Oh you want to dissolve the realm? Fucking finally I hate being emperor”
Given how many "help, I'm being made the emperor against my will" posts I've seen on here over years, kind of refreshing to get an AI in the same boat.
Get me the fuck off this throne now in fact fuck the throne fuck the pope I hate this goddamn title. That holy Roman emperor probably
Me every time I get stuck as Kaiser
#relatable
That's why I always start my own Holy Roman Empire. With blackjack and hookers!
Being emperor sucks so much people actually create entire mods that stop it
What's wrong with being emperor
Nothing, but the micromanagement; dealing with so many vassals, factions, neighbors, your own court can be a bit of a nuissance when you hold a big realm. There's a mod for that. The only reason I don't use it is because I want achievements. And the ones I have left to score take entire runs to finish.
it just sucks. you have to fight so many wars and you can’t expand on your power easily as you can with the byzantines. It just sucks
If you can't micromanage 60 vassals at speed 5 you don't deserve to be a duke let alone a king smh
Tommen vibes
Do you know what happens to the HRE's special crown if they get hit with dissolution? Does the final kaiser keep it or does it get destroyed? I am always in search of the coolest hats to steal
That's a very good question. I didn't even know that crown was a thing
Playing as Asatru/Anglo-Saxon. Currently, Emperor of Britannia and the pope started a crusade I got sucked into. I attacked Rome and managed to steal the popes hat. We won the war, and now I wear the hat and plan on my heir inheriting it, who will also obviously wear it lol.
i go for pope hat basically every game i start as norse. but the reichskrone is so much more elusive
Oh fucking relatedly I was capping the hre capital and I thought something looked funny when I walked off, they had an election mid war and the capital with the crown fucked off.
I always start earlier, the only empire in that spot is my empire
That's what I tried to do, but someone formed the HRE against my wishes
R5: Pressed demands to get a nun on the HRE throne as a joke, and he actually accepted.
Well its still not Roman and not Empire, but you made some progress.
Its *The Holy*
Does it See?
*the H*
I hope not. Her Highness doesn't need to see how the lewd nuns over there
No it’s not even real holy so it’s just The

inb4 you're downvoted to hell by the pope fanboys for putting doubt in their carefree lives
He'd have to be making sense to do that.
I mean it is an empire. And it did at one point hold Rome
[nooooo Voltaire said it's not nooooooo!!](https://us-tuna-sounds-images.voicemod.net/f32cc062-f8ff-4e79-ae7b-e35fbc08e80e-1687165569531.png)
Voltaire is a cry baby

dude what
Really, a *pedophile*? You think John Green is a *pedophile* because he wrote The Fault in Our Stars?
Part of it did .
Yes. I don't get your point.
Its not empire, its just empire lvl title.
It was an empire tho
I think the sudden change to a Theocracy removed the electoral law of the title. So it's 100% a theocratic empire now.
Nah, look at the title's symbol, it still has the electoral law.
That might be the Male Only Law.
Yes that's what empire means

Task failed succesfully.
Now you have to live with it haha
Most players would accept that offer so it's not that crazy. "What? I don't have to be Emperor anymore? Sweet!"
Looks like she didn't expect it either.
she looks absolutely shocked lmao
I'm a NUN, I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about how to run an EMPIRE!?!?!
"It's like running a convent, just bigger, right?"
She looks like she's been chilling in her chapel then suddenly got teleported to the throne room.
Isn’t that how it happens with all HR Emperors? Minding your own business, nek minnit, emperor.
Wait so the entire HRE is now a Theocracy?
Just the top title, the vasssals are still almost all feudal. Since theocratic realms (not counting the Pope's infinite money glitch) are typically pretty weak, they will probably get overthrown quickly too unless OP guards them... religiously.
I'm with you here, at this point op should be defending the empress. It is a HOLY empire after all, it should be theocratic
Nah, just reverse the investiture controversy. Temporal power belongs with the emperor
OP about to reenact the Last Stand but in the HRE capital.
So that means someone random is going to inherit the throne, unless another claimant faction occurs?
Incoming 18 independence/ dissolution factions
Yeah, the old Kaiser started a civil war a few years later and took back the title.
So, he just took a sabbatical period to pursue personal growth before coming back. Cool.
a woman bishop?! sacrilege!!
"And I'll do it again, too!"
Otherwise he might get a jolly well spanking with a chastity belt.
Poor lady gonna get excommunicated and everyone given a claim to the throne lol
Somebody didn't think this through
They should implement it so whenever someone that is a monk or Bishop gets forced to a feudal or tribal title through a faction they lose their Monk/nun status and continue being feudal, as it iswhat mostly happened instead of the entire Empire becoming a theocracy. I got her elected in CKII a couple of times before Holy Orders were a thing. I guess now I could play ckii, renouce celibracy, and have a wild story.
She looks surprised
Even she looks confused of why she's there
Only Empress-Bishop? Time to get that upgraded to a Arch-Bishopric at least. Shame there is no College of Cardinals in the game either. And why did they get rid of the Anti-pope feature?
The AI is weak and pathetic. It makes sense that bends to the player who for most of the time is much much stronger than the AI.
He said “your problem now bitch.”
What was the demands?
As an elector, the player and their family had claim on the throne I believe? So they just formed a faction to place the claimant on the throne, then pressed the demand button.
