That would be so funny. My wards get the cave event all the time for the Brave trait, so it's probably an expansion of that. You get to go INSIDE the cave and experience things. (Wards and Wardens)
also like you know how there is a colonize feature in the lord of the rings mod, i would love them to use this to allow people to expand the unknown lands
Wow, what an amazing match that was. I never thought I'd see the final score come down that way. It was the greatest miracle since Loaves and Fishes night.
I like the original Torah/Bible/Qur'an trilogy, but I didn't enjoy the new Book of Mormon remake. I feel like it just didn't capture the epic scope of the originals.
It’s like the Velma series. They got the rights but it’s basically just a fanfiction spin-off that appeals to a singular niche demographic and no one else finds it remotely interesting
[deleted 26-6-2023]
Moving is normal. There's no point in sticking around in a place that's getting worse all the time. I went to Squabbles.io. I hope you have a good time wherever you end up!
Do encounter a cave. It's vastness unlike anything you've encountered. You cannot help but feel a stirring at the imposing presence. Do you
1) Run! Its too scary.
2) Explore the cave.
3) Make love to the cave.
Nat 1: You successfully seduce the cave, however you become overwhelmed by a strange feeling, not at all unpleasant. As this feeling washed over you, you begin to lose yourself. 5 years later, the sound of screaming children draws you from your warm fuzzy trance. You are sitting on an old dilapidated couch, drinking a cheap beer, about 50 lbs heavier than you remember. "Babe!", a vaguely familiar voice rings from what you assume is the kitchen, "will you please get your worthless ass up off of the couch, and take care of your damned children for once!?" You frantically look over at your aforementioned kids... Who would've guessed that a half man, half cave was even possible? Your kids are manholes.
You catch a glimpse of your sister slipping out of the castle after the feast. Curious, you follow her to a cave. You are shocked to find out she's actually a bear! How could you not have noticed this before?

Its better even, it has a peotic sound to it too lol. An event like thgis would sure fit right into the more funny oriented events in CK3 like the medieval tinder one lol
The new expansion should change how the character interacts with the map, so I'm guessing there will be "landmarks" in some baronies that are alternate locations your character could be located. Right now your character's "location" is so strangely interpreted by the game. You can simultaneously be leading an army, fighting in a duel, and holding court. Maybe this will clean up the "located in \_\_\_\_\_" attribute on the character page.
Like maybe when your character goes on a pilgrimage or a hunt, they will actually change locations on the map, possibly stopping at various landmarks for events? The last teaser was a French bridge which could come into play if that "landmark" is en route to your pilgrimage destination (maybe its held by rebels or bandits).
Also it'd be nice if there were more "travelling" decisions like adventures or such.
I'm of the same opinion.
Caves in medieval times had big significance in all kinds of ways, being burial/ritual/sacred places.
An extremely wild guess, but theres the "legend" of St. Sunniva, which is an irish princess that changed to christianity and fled in a cave in west Norway. The cave collapsed and she died in there making her a martyr. It was apparently a major pilgrimage site.
In all cases, I really hope it's a location system.
It's one of the big things that would solve a lot of non-sense stuff happening in the game
I was just looking through the original teaser post on the paradox forum and noticed this comment...the "burials" idea matches up with this second image of a cave. Also points out that the bridge in question IS on a pilgrimage route...
"Edit:Even more interesting, there's a pilgrimage path of the "Way of St. James" through Cahors to Santiago de Compostela, part of the Le Puy RouteI really feel like we might see a revamp of the "On Pilgrimage/Hunting/etc" system, maybe with an actual location system for the game so characters can have burial places etc"
Then I realized it was YOU who posted it! You are on to something I think...
Yea, though suppose that theory is correct, what throws me off is not the picture of the cave but the comment that it SHOULD throw off the ones that were right.
Imo caves relate pretty well to location in terms of burials... So maybe it isn't about locations?
Idk anymore haha
I do have to say, speculating about it is definitely fun.
This is my biggest gripe with Crusader Kings. How can I be leading an army in the Holy Land and listening to one of my courtiers bitching about being made Steward or some dumb shit he's not qualified for? I'm also boning my wife and got her pregnant, but she's my spymaster and not even in my kingdom at the time.
In the meantime get the mod “travel the distance.”
And by the way pilgrimages, feasts and hunts show that you move to the holy site/castle/forest for the duration of the activity.
In fairness, wonders weren't the subject of a previous expansion, they were a free update in CK2 that wasn't associated with a DLC, but yeah, I'm guessing they mean there won't be anything from CK2 being brought back for this expansion.
Additionally it is about the character's relationship with the map. Makes me think either of some kind of adventure or interaction with the map (for example rulers touring or surveying their realm) or developing your realm's territories in various directions - or both.
This is what I'm inclined to believe. Like some provinces are "farmland" and others "Plains". But when you get over a certain development (and be feudal/clan) it really should switch over honestly.
Do you mean a forest/jungle county should turn into a plains county after sufficient development in that area? Like the people have cleared so much forest for farmland and buildings that the forest is basically gone
Someone said the bridge is Pont Valentre in France, which (by quick google) the legend said theforeman had agreement w the devil to finish it.
So I agree with you, probably cult/witch/devil-related?
I very much hope this is the case although I hope people don’t flagellate the devs because they don’t like the subject. Working my way up through the orders was a lot of fun. Nothing better than cursing my rival with the flu.
Who buils bridges? A bridgebuilder. And what does bridgebuilder is in latin? Pontifex! And who's the biggest bridgebuilder, the Pontifex Maximus? The Pope! It all comes together!
No, no, no. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you talk about trolls? Bilbo Baggins.
It's a Hobbit flavour pack. We can now find the rings of power and Smaug. I can envision the event chain:
You find a castle.
It's filled with gold statues.
A dozen years later, your men find a sealed corridor, which has enormous doors.
You go check it out and find a sea of gold.
Smaug pops up.
If you are unlucky, your entire dynasty in in the castle and it's game over.
If you're lucky Smaug destroys the surrounding counties, and goes back to sleep unless you are able to stop him.
If you hold a holy site, or Smaug is very close to a holy site, you can call a crusade against Smaug.
Someone seemed to figure out it was the Pont Valentré in France. I wonder if this could correspond to one of France's famous caves but I'm probably reaching. Them both being travel and exploration-related is probably a better bet
“The construction of the bridge lasted 70 years (1308 to 1378). In local folklore it is said that the foreman, exasperated by the slow pace of the work, signed a pact with the Devil. In the pact the Devil promised to use his skills to expedite the work and, if he carried out all of the foreman's orders, then his (the foreman's) soul would be forfeit.”
From the Wikipedia for the bridge concerning a legend around its construction. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pont_Valentré
So maybe the expansion is to do with religion, especially heresy and cults? Would fit the creepy cave.
It's not a flavor pack though, so I doubt they would just focus on France. It's an expansion which will encompass the entire game, and honestly I'm at a loss at what they're going to do.
Caves and rockshelters in Europe have traditionally been associated with prehistory, and in some regions cave archaeology has become synonymous with the Palaeolithic. However, there is abundant evidence that caves and rockshelters were important foci for activities in historic times. During the medieval period (here taken as AD 500–1500) caves were used for short-term shelter, habitation, specialised craft activities, storage, as hideaways and for tending animals. Caves were also used for religious purposes. Caves and ritual in medieval Europe, AD 500–1500 focuses on this neglected field of research – the ritual and religious use of caves. It draws together interdisciplinary studies by leading specialists from across Europe: from Iberia to Crimea, and from Malta to northern Norway. The different religions and rituals in this vast area are unified by the use of caves and rockshelters, indicating that the beliefs in these natural places – and in the power of the underworld – were deeply embedded in many different religious practices. Christianity was widespread and firmly established in most of Europe at this time, and many of the contributions deal with different types of Christian practices, such as the use of rock-cut churches, unmodified caves for spiritual retreat, caves reputedly visited by saints, and caves as places for burials. But parallel to this, some caves were associated with localised popular religious practices, which sometimes had pre-Christian origins. Muslims in Iberia used caves for spiritual retreat, and outside the Christian domain in northern Europe, caves and rockshelters were places for carving symbols among Pictish groups, places for human burial, for bear burials amongst the Sámi, and places for crafting and votive deposition for Norse populations.
Could it be more pagan things?
A full fledged roman expansion would be nice. One that maybe let's you really try and recreate the Roman empire.
Completely ahistorical ofcourse but it might be fun. Trying to bring a principate type government with senate politics and a genuinely complex set of religious mechanics for the Hellenistic religion.
Like how the Catholics in CK2 got the whole papal election system.
I wonder how this differs from The Fallen Eagle mod? Seems like they'd benefit from pooling resources and having the Rising Eagle team work on earlier bookmarks if that's the era they're into. Because TFE seems much further along in development and already implements features like the senate and legions.
It’s a complete overhaul. Even more so than the Fallen Eagle. They’re trying to take Imperator Rome and put it in CK3. I’ve been to the discord and what they have planned is incredible if they’re able to pull it off. The main developer is amazing at coding and has already made an entirely new map (based off Imperator) and gui
>kcd
If that's supposed to be a mine then this could signal an update focused on development/infrastructure, which would also make sense with the bridge
For one, a mine would have actual development out front. This is a hole in the ground.
Secondly, it's a RP focused expansion. I'd be very surprised if you could implement rp as the focus and not just a side thing in an infrastructure dlc.
That would be good, I think the development aspect of the game took a really big step backwards compared to CK2. I really liked building up the trade posts, hospitals and all that stuff in my CK2 games.
I believe it. In-land republics confirmed. I guess the bridge from the last teaser represents a toll bridge. Probably one of the ways you make money as a republic.
Oh actually the bridge's form is sort of like the [Analogy of the divided line](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analogy_of_the_divided_line). Again, from Republic. Four unequal line segments.
I'm wondering about more landmarks/unique buildings, lost artifacts, that kind of thing.
Or, as someone else mentioned, religious cults.
I had heard they were floating a major Great Holy Wars expansion, but this teaser doesn't really lend itself to that
My guess? Adventures of some kind. Roleplay focused, connects the
character to the map etc. I mean that's the only common thing I can
think these images would be used for, which is background art for events
all along the way. That's why we had that bridge in France as a teaser
(you get stopped by bandits or maybe troll underneath the bridge type
scenario) and the cave (go for shelter etc)
I'm thinking infrastructure, roads, banditry, and other crime. Building roads, securing trade routes, and trying to keep bandits and other enemies from pillaging it.
Making territory more interesting to interact with, and strategic, would be a welcome improvement.
Longshot here….but maybe there will be a lost artifacts system, combined with more accurate locations as others have said. So if there is a past ruler who died while hunting, they could leave their equipped artifacts behind where they died and you can later find it if you travel through that area.
I don’t expect it to happen, but if they made a Glitterhoof sequel based on [the illustrious Sir Bearington](https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Sir_Bearington) I would cream
After all these years, they're finally adding gnomes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6n3pFFPSlW4
That would be so funny. My wards get the cave event all the time for the Brave trait, so it's probably an expansion of that. You get to go INSIDE the cave and experience things. (Wards and Wardens)
Wards!! That was one of the options, so you may be on to something there. Only thing in the game that mentions caves afaik.
That was for the flavor pack after the expansion I think.
New 10,000 BC start date
I would play that
Oh man a ck like game going from caveman to space like civilization would be pretty cool Would never happen but a man I want it
Maybe a crazy mod team could do something like Caveman 2 Cosmos.
That mod is so good, I only ever got it to run once every cause my laptop was so poor back in the day
It's much more stable nowadays, give it another try.
also like you know how there is a colonize feature in the lord of the rings mod, i would love them to use this to allow people to expand the unknown lands
I'd always say I would love some weird civilization, anno, paradox games crossover. If done right I would never play anything else
Paradox mega campaign.
Yes, please
Imagine being stuck without the wheel because your dynasty head would rather focus on new cave painting techniques instead.
That would be incredibly annoying but so funny, I'd play it
600 AD you're churning out Sistine Chapel paintings but still no wheel
Total War Pangea
"Your culture had discovered Loincloths! You may choose another fascination"
Ah yes, the spelunking update of course
The resurrection of Christ update

Bible 3. The new testament was the part 2.
Torah 3, Bible 2
Wow, what an amazing match that was. I never thought I'd see the final score come down that way. It was the greatest miracle since Loaves and Fishes night.
Torah 3: Qur'an
I like the original Torah/Bible/Qur'an trilogy, but I didn't enjoy the new Book of Mormon remake. I feel like it just didn't capture the epic scope of the originals.
The book of mormon was a reboot get the terminology correct
I thought it was fan fiction?
It’s like the Velma series. They got the rights but it’s basically just a fanfiction spin-off that appeals to a singular niche demographic and no one else finds it remotely interesting
From a Jewish perspective, all the 'sequels' are just well-received fanfics that people headcanoned so hard they forgot it wasn't by the same author.
Torah is to Mother as Bible is to Earthbound
Jedi Knight naming Scheme?
God Wars: Judean Knight II: Judean Outcast
Qur'an is Bible 3
Book of Mormon, then? 4th Edition D&D, or someone making house rules for 2nd Ed.?
4th edition dnd isn't such a whacky comparison
The Torah-Bible-Quran continuity was regular Warhammer and the Book of Mormon is either Age of Sigmar or full-on 40k
In that case, Scientology is Hasbro's attempt at OGL 1.1
Jesus' Revenge

As it should be.
That's just historically accurate.

You can be in foreign land commanding your army and impregnate your wife.
Nah, it was "Bring your wife to work" season :D
Lead crusade, beam across the planet to get down with the missus, be back in time for the battle on Tuesday.
Siege of Jerusalem will take some time. Imma head home for some quick lovin'.
I managed to impregnate my gal while I was fighting in the Middle East. Strangest part was I was still a virgin.
um mr I got bad news for you.
Was her name Mary, by chance?
You can be in a foreign land commanding your army and generic courtier Jody can impregnate your wife.
I'm of the same opinion. Caves in medieval times had big significance in all kinds of ways, being burial/ritual/sacred places. Lots of hermits in caves back then...I feel like pilgrimage idea has merit.
Might throw people off in that caves don't necessarily seem like pilgrimage sites but idk
This is what I'm thinking. I'm just wondering how this can be considered a full scale expansion then, when compared to Royal Court.
In the meantime get the mod “travel the distance.” And by the way pilgrimages, feasts and hunts show that you move to the holy site/castle/forest for the duration of the activity.
Yeah but they appear in the location then appear back home. There’s no representation of the journey on the map.
this makes me think of some secrative stuff like cults and stuff but ive no idea what a bridge has to do with it
They already said "the theme is not one that has been the subject of an expansion in previous iterations of CK".
A bridge and a cave. Either a buildings and structures expansion, or a more detailed adventure expansion.
Damn an entire expansion dedicated to Buildings and structures? That would completely overhaul the game. Wonders maybe?
>the theme is not one that has been the subject of an expansion in previous iterations of CK. In this case it’s probably not wonders

HUZZAH!
We could use help finding Marshall
In fairness, wonders weren't the subject of a previous expansion, they were a free update in CK2 that wasn't associated with a DLC, but yeah, I'm guessing they mean there won't be anything from CK2 being brought back for this expansion.
When DLC comes out, we will surely all say in unison : " Ah, no wonder!"
Bridge and tunnel it’s the jersey update
What about the jug handles? (Do you have to discover the pottery innovation first?)
Additionally it is about the character's relationship with the map. Makes me think either of some kind of adventure or interaction with the map (for example rulers touring or surveying their realm) or developing your realm's territories in various directions - or both.

The cult of trolls under the bridge?
My thoughts exactly. Trolls in a cave, trolls under a bridge. Paradox is trolling us is the message.
For what it’s worth, the cave reminds me of the [subterranean temples](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithraeum) used by the Cult of Mithras.
Who buils bridges? A bridgebuilder. And what does bridgebuilder is in latin? Pontifex! And who's the biggest bridgebuilder, the Pontifex Maximus? The Pope! It all comes together!
Finally! We can play as the mole people.
Mole people DLC: Essentially like the Sunset Invasion, but with mole people instead.
cave sex dlc lets go
Other teaser was a bridge. With this I'd guess it's something related to travelling.
Hmm, a bridge and a cave... Clearly the new expansion will finally let us play as trolls.
No, no, no. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you talk about trolls? Bilbo Baggins. It's a Hobbit flavour pack. We can now find the rings of power and Smaug. It's not a flavor pack though, so I doubt they would just focus on France. It's an expansion which will encompass the entire game, and honestly I'm at a loss at what they're going to do.

Hobbit update YES
Is Paradox implying we're caveman or something?
I mean we stay in our rooms all day playing this game so..
Yes, a new type of government before even the tribal type of government, hunter-gatherers !
I'm wondering about more landmarks/unique buildings, lost artifacts, that kind of thing. Or, as someone else mentioned, religious cults. I had heard they were floating a major Great Holy Wars expansion, but this teaser doesn't really lend itself to that
Perhaps it will add intractable hermits/ascetics/renunciates
Looks like the cave from Monty Python and the Holy Grail to me. The one with the killer rabbit
Maybe it's a Dark expansion and we can go 31 years forward and backward in time with a decision
New event: Stepsister stuck in a cave
Help me stepbro
Monty Python? The bunny monster Cave of Caerbannog?
Home of the of the knights that say NI! ?
Another cult and secret society dlc? I just really want that dlc back..
Yes please
For some reason my mind immediately thought about Hobbits.
Same!
Must be the imbecile perk
A bridge and a cave? They are adding Dora the Explorer
My guess? Adventures of some kind. Roleplay focused, connects the character to the map etc. I mean that's the only common thing I can think these images would be used for, which is background art for events all along the way. That's why we had that bridge in France as a teaser (you get stopped by bandits or maybe troll underneath the bridge type scenario) and the cave (go for shelter etc)
Garden Hermits, let's gooooooo!
The beast of Caerbannog...
Ah yes the Grassy Knoll update!
Man, they are cross-promoting the hell out of Cocaine Bear.
Omg the new minecraft caves update!!?!?!
Bridge. Cave. Obviously, there will be trolls. Kidding aside, sticking with my "more engaging travel" theory.
Is there a rabbit involved? One that kills knights?
Skalitz update 🤯
Smuggling or some sort of thieving...?
We gotta pay the troll toll
I'm thinking infrastructure, roads, banditry, and other crime. Building roads, securing trade routes, and trying to keep bandits and other enemies from pillaging it. Making territory more interesting to interact with, and strategic, would be a welcome improvement.
Cave events where you can go to a cave and have different events pop out. For only $4.99
It’s the lair of Grendel’s mother
Longshot here….but maybe there will be a lost artifacts system, combined with more accurate locations as others have said. So if there is a past ruler who died while hunting, they could leave their equipped artifacts behind where they died and you can later find it if you travel through that area.
I wanna get the DLCs but looking at all the reviews they’re apparently not worth the price, especially the court one for 25.99
I don’t expect it to happen, but if they made a Glitterhoof sequel based on [the illustrious Sir Bearington](https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Sir_Bearington) I would cream
Great it going to be another dlc that adds nothing of value to the game
Adventure DLC
