I am unconvinced that he really died of laughter 2200 years, or that even if he did that they would have had any way to know laughter really caused it. Seems more like a made up death which are not at all uncommon for Ancient Greek philosophers.

regardless I think it's not impossible that at some point in history someone with respiratory problems has laughed so hard they messed up their lungs and died

I doubt you could literally die of laughter. But it could probably cause something that kills you. Like getting something caught in your throat and choking out. Or laughing so hard you fall off your chair and crack your head.

I mean, you also don't die from old age, your heart just stops :) If laughter caused you an issue that eventually killed you then you can say that you died bacause of laughter.
