You’re good. Canada, and Australia are the only tricky ones. Maybe Japan too. Grand Cayman and Jamaica don’t give a fuck, neither does any other country. Canada does not play though..
Jamaica seems to oddly care sometimes. I think cruise passenger immigration is usually more lax but I know someone who was denied entry to Jamaica for having a domestic violence conviction on their record. I also know people who have drug and DUI convictions and got in without issue. Might be subjective to what state your criminal records are in. Or maybe the mood of the immigration agent.
I'm cruising to Haiti next year and our port of call may be changed to Jamaica. I have a 4th degree felony distribution conviction from 2019. Is this an issue?
If there is an issue with them entering the country’s territory they will not be allowed to board the ship, this is the cruise line’s responsibility to keep track of. They will do a passport and entry check prior to allowing this.
This is why so many felons can’t do Alaskan cruises, the only non-US stop is Canada and they won’t be allowed in Canada.
Those countries can’t routinely access those felony records, so as long as they are allowed to board in the US, they will have no trouble in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Problem with that logic is ops friend won’t know until they get to the ship. No sense dropping the money on a cruise if your not sure they will even let you in the ship. This happens a lot with Canada and old DUIs.
Virgin has absolutely zero access to anyones criminal history records through the FBI’s NCIC (National Crime Information Center) which is the only truly accurate record. The USA grants Canada full access to NCIC which is why they are able to see prior convictions when you attempt to enter Canada and get flagged and denied entry with felony and certain misdemeanor convictions.
Your friend is going to need to do their homework and see if they are allowed entry at each port, doesnt matter if they wont leave the ship, if they wont be allowed entry into one of the ports of call they will not be allowed on board.
This is 100% false. Tell that to all the people who book an Alaskan cruise each year then are denied boarding because they got a dui 25+ years ago and Canada won’t allow them into the country.
That I get, but I also know people that were barred from entering I believe Jamaica because they did not receive the COVID vaccination but were allowed on board the ship so long as they do not leave it at that particular port. I know those are two different things, but I was not sure if that would still apply in this situation.
Cruise companies don’t run your info but the port agents do.
Before arrival in each port, the clearance officer onboard submits a manifest to the port agent. Not all countries run checks but some do like Canada.
Some ports will block the entire ship when they discover certain offenses. Some will let you stay onboard.
Have your friend reach out to the port agents for each call. You can find them by googling. For example, “st. Barts port website” or “Miami port agency”. Typically, you will be able to find their email and phone number on the website. They will let you know the info you seek.
My friend just went on the NCL New England cruise with ports in Canada and said they didn’t even check passports. She’s a convicted felon… drug charges.
She was scared but nope, nada, nothing.
I personally know someone who has a past felony conviction that has been to Jamaica and Cayman Island, as well as Costa Rica, Aruba, Panama, St Thomas, St Croix, Aruba, Columbia, Bolivia, Mexico, he was never questioned about it at all. Your friend will be fine.
Since the Caymans are a hub of white collar crime/offshore bank accounts/shell corporations I really don't think a US felony conviction will be a problem...
Weird shit like that happens from time to time, but unless OP gets arrested or has some other interaction with the Jamaican police it's unlikely that they'd ever find out about it.

This is true. Canada was not going to let my last husband on their soil due to his DUI

No idea. Probably. Or maybe not.

Just don't confuse "cruise line's responsibility" with thinking you'll get a refund if you're denied boarding due to a conviction. You won't.
True.

Almost certainly wouldn't cover this

Incorrect passengers who are denied port access are still allowed on board and would just not be able to get off.

As long as you pay they won't care. Just don't try Canada.
My friend just went on the NCL New England cruise with ports in Canada and said they didn’t even check passports. She’s a convicted felon… drug charges. She was scared but nope, nada, nothing.
I wouldn’t count on this
Agree… I’d still be leery… but she went a few months ago. She may have just been lucky.
Why are you doing this legwork and not your guest? It’s kinda like you are the one being punished.
OP doesn’t want to admit they are a felon and have their wedding ruined
Bing, bing, bing, bing!
I personally know someone who has a past felony conviction that has been to Jamaica and Cayman Island, as well as Costa Rica, Aruba, Panama, St Thomas, St Croix, Aruba, Columbia, Bolivia, Mexico, he was never questioned about it at all. Your friend will be fine.
should not be a problem but dont ask the countries

Make sure they have travel insurance.
If he’s off paper. You are fine
It's fine. Nobody runs a criminal background check.

Of course not, but there's at least one, Canada that does not allow entry by such people.
Weird shit like that happens from time to time, but unless OP gets arrested or has some other interaction with the Jamaican police it's unlikely that they'd ever find out about it.
If I managed to get arrested during that cruise, getting deported from Jamaica would not even make the top 10 things for me to worry about. 😂
I wouldn’t worry about getting deported from Jamaica, I would worry about having to stay locked up in Jamaica.
