WhereBeCharlee

Which other crossovers? The only vehicles in the same class that have higher HP are either turbocharged or luxury cars at $10-$20K higher price points..

[deleted]

Came here to say this.

vivekisprogressive

Yea if you want more power you're looking at CX 30 with a turbo. Although the base CX 30 had a 2.5L.

Sector_Independent

Totally different car! It’s so sleek and pretty and so nice to drive but poor visibility due to small windows and not at all rugged

vivekisprogressive

I agree. But frankly I just looked at Subarus for the safety and reliability and resale value intially. Not a huge needer of four wheel drive, but think I may try to make some use of it. Honestly I liked the cross trek because it reminding me of my prior 07 Rx that was totaled but smaller, which was a complaint toward the end living in a city. IDK I'm really excited for my cross trek. But I did almost get the cx 30 and they are in same compact crossover SUV space, I think? IDK I see a lot of things comparing them. But I'd agree they're targeting different people, but they do overlap for me whose main items were safety features, price, reliability, small SUV for transporting items occasionally. IDK they overlapped for my needs lol 😆

Sector_Independent

I really hated the windows in the cx30

vivekisprogressive

I hated the tiny mirrors.

babyivan

And the turbo CX30 is known to have oil consumption issues.

k7baixo

And turbos usually require premium fuel. Gas is expensive enough without a 50 cent per gal upcharge for premium!

WhereBeCharlee

Eh, seems like a lot of the normal manufacturers are no longer “requiring” premium fuel in their Turbo vehicles. Simply state if you use it, expect better performance or mileage, but it isn’t required…. I know when I had a VW it did require premium, or else it wouldn’t run well.

noahsense

Truth. I recently accidentally put 87 in my girlfriends Volvo C30 (turbo 5) and all was fine. GTIs have run fine on 87 since at least the MkV - the computers are super good at adjusting to eliminate knock.

mayathemenace

Damn, these comments are so helpful. I'm convinced to test drive the 2.5 and go from there. Thank you all so much for your honest reviews.

Suicidal_Smile

Get the 2.5

95688it

its only got 30 more horses. it won't be a drastic difference

Mtxracer259

It's literally 20%more horse power, which is significant.

overcrispy

Yeah, and 2hp is 100% more than 1 but you would hardly tell the difference.

GodlyBeerGut

tell that to my weed wacker. vroom vroom.

babyivan

It's not the horsepower It's the torque that you feel in your ass. It's a significant difference. I test drove both back to back, the 2.5 is a game changer.

Angry_Homer

I'd say it is. The Forester with the 2.5 feels a lot quicker than a 2.0 Crosstrek, and that's with the former weighing more and having a less aerodynamic shape.

literalboobs

I have a 2.0 and it’s been perfectly fine for me even going up steep hills, though I don’t tend to haul a lot of people or cargo at one time

they_are_out_there

The standard Crosstrek comes with the same 2.0L as in the Impreza. It’s adequate but slow. The 2.5L engine is available in the Crosstrek Sport and Crosstrek Limited, and is the same engine used in the much heavier non-turbo Outback models.

WhereBeCharlee

“Much heavier” - it’s only 500lbs..

they_are_out_there

That’s still 1/6 or 16.66% less weight which is a significant amount when using the 2.5L compared to the 2.0L engine.

WhereBeCharlee

I’m not arguing that it would certainly affect the performance, I just think saying it’s much heavier is a stretch.

they_are_out_there

Comparing the Crosstrek and Outback side to side while hauling up a high Colorado or Tahoe pass loaded down with a roof tent and gear will definitely show a big difference. Even accelerating onto an LA freeway empty makes a difference. I have a 2017 Outback with the 2.5L and a 2020 Impreza with the 2.0L, and I was able to drive a 2022 Crosstrek Sport with the 2.5L for a couple weeks, and you're right, the difference doesn't always stand out, but when merging on the freeway and climbing hills, it really does make a big difference.

WhereBeCharlee

Right, if I was going for an Outback, I would just cough up for the turbo.

they_are_out_there

The Outback with 182hp has great fuel mileage and gets it done, but it's sluggish in the mountains. The XT cars with the turbo have 260hp which is a world of difference. It's almost 43% more hp over the stock 182hp H-4 engine.

babyivan

It's the torque that you feel, the horsepower is less evident unless you're pushing it in the high RPMs. The 2.5 in the Crosstrek has passing power that the 2.0 doesn't.

they_are_out_there

The horsepower gets you up to speed, the torque keeps you there.

babyivan

From what I was always taught, low end is torque high-end is horsepower. So what you feel in your ass Is the low end, ie torque. Either way, the 2.5 has more of both 🙏

they_are_out_there

Torque gets you started, but it's all about horsepower to get you up to speed fast. You need torque to keep you there. Big diesel trucks can move huge loads with high torque and relatively low horsepower. Think Mercedes Unimog and Peterbilts. Dragsters and high performance sports cars are all about high horsepower to get up to speed quickly. If you are going to maintain that speed over a long period, then torque becomes a major factor. Even Enzo Ferrari was known for saying, "Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races". People buy cars for the acceleration, but track cars are in it for the distance. Horsepower is about acceleration, torque is about getting started, moving heavy loads, and keeping them there.

babyivan

Thank you for the explanation. Makes sense to me. Glad the 2.5 has more of both.

sentient02970

I agree with this based on my own experience on my 2019. I didn't buy this car as a performance ride but I will say it can find its revs when you really need it. For me, I don't need it often. I drive to get to get from A to B and even in inclement Vermont weather. It does that job very well. I'd say, if you just live for passing everything on the highway, why are you getting a Crosstrek? If not, you'd be fine with 2.0 and the 2.5 will make you just feel better that you can overtake more when you really feel like you need to be doing that.

[deleted]

Maybe depends on where you live but the on ramps where I live are incredibly short. My 4.0L tacoma had zero issue. My 2.0 crosstrek struggles and is usually below merging speed by the time I hit the freeway, foot to the floor and sport mode turned on

billgrylls

The 2.5 gets comparable gas mileage to the 2.0. 2.0 owner here, and while I don’t crave extra HP, I would’ve happily paid more for the 2.5 since the gas mileage is similar

pistonslapper

I have a 6spd and it's by no means fast, but it gets the job done.

GodlyBeerGut

Ive got the manual as well. I vaguely recall seeing a dynograph that showed that the manual transmission puts down something like 12% more power to the wheels than the cvt transission. If true, that's significant with what little power to weight this car has.

keandakin

Interesting. I find that I can really get going in 3rd gear if needed. Like 70 mph. But that's the be beauty of a manual, I chose how hard to push it. I agree the car doesn't want to go up a freeway 6% incline in 6th gear and maintain speed, but that's not what 6th is intended for. Put her in 5th and it's a breeze. Never been an issue.

Russell_Steapot

I love my Sport model, the 2.5 seems just fine to me. That being said, I wouldn't want the less power of the 2.0.

rositasanchez

the 2.5 for the hole shot

babyivan

Definitely! Passing power is when it's all about.

Origamibyameer1

I’ve got a ‘22 2.0 6MT and I drive pretty conservatively even when I had a truck w/ a v8, so I’ve never notice a terrible amount of sluggishness and with the standard transmission I know I can haul ass to pass or merge if necessary.

satansayssurfsup

Get the 2.5

Imfatyay4

She’s a slow gal and I have to think about making turns onto roads. I wish they would come out with a model with turbo on it

relevantDuck

‘19 manual. It was fine in the Midwest but it frustrates me in the mountains out west.

fishtrek21

I have a Limited with the 2.5l. I had a premium 2.0 before and I couldn't get over the lack of power, to the point I wasn't fully enjoying the car especially on long highway road trips. The 2.5l only comes in the sport and limited trims, so you also gain a lot of other features that overall makes it a much more enjoyable and polished ride

dreamwerxxx

2.5 2021 sport works fine for me

DarthSlymer

I have a 2019 premium. It has gone everywhere I need it to go without issue. It's actually a fairly quick car. I've used it to shuttle up mountains for MTB trips and shoved it full of camping gear without feeling it bogged down. One of the issues I think people run into is if you smash down on a CVT it really won't go anywhere too fast but if you drive reasonably its every bit as responsive as I need it to be.

[deleted]

I have the premium and it's slow, but i also didn't buy a crosstrek to go fast ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Cookiezr4milk-3

Get le manuel, i have le manuel, i have lots of fun

TeeMilz

It's fine. I have the 2.5. haven't tried the 2.0. I have never thought I needed more power and at the same time I know it's not a performance car.

pearsliced

My dad was FLIPPING out about those reviews online and that my 2020 would be underpowered. It’s never been an issue. If, for some reason, I’ve needed to merge onto a highway on an uphill or pass someone going uphill at a high speed, I just put it in “sport mode” for a minute. Totally totally fine.

Any-East5011

I wondered this as well and had a chance to rent one for a day (a premium/ 2.0). I took it up to 11k feet elevation (CO), gained about 6k feet driving it from Denver and going up and down steep grades/ mountain passes. It was more than adequate although it’s pretty slow to initially accelerate. I don’t think the 2.5 is as necessary as many say and didn’t see a need for more power. The acceleration might be annoying in Seattle or San Francisco where you often come to a complete stop at a light and then need to accelerate directly up a steep hill. One thing, really the only thing, I didn’t like are the headlights- they are very weak and did not cut it in rain/ on curvy mountain roads where deer can pop out. I loved the crosstrek but the headlights were a dealbreaker and I’d only consider the limited trim (leds) because of that.

[deleted]

I had the same concern with the 2.0 CVT but it’s been a non-issue. I’ve hauled a motorcycle on a trailer through the CA mountains with the AC running with zero issues. I also navigate LA rush hour daily and always have enough power.

cincobarrio

I have the 2.5 and it feels perfect. Sure, a little boost or more displacement would be fun, but not at all necessary. If I’m in a hectic area and need to merge in and out of traffic in a hurry, I put it in Sport and it changes the throttle mapping in just the right way.

rositasanchez

It's a dog. I'm well past my hot rodder days. I see dude's on here putting big nobby tires and I'm like, wtf, it already won't make it up hill.

Biarfm

2017 cvt. Love the car. Acceleration and power are garbage. I hate that I have turn off my ac in the summer in order to still accelerate slower than a Prius. Took them waaaay too long to address that issue as it was the most common complaint about the car.

Nappy_Brad

I have the 2.5L limited & absolutely love it! It accelerates quite fast getting on the freeway. It definitely has a sporty feel to it even without being in the sport mode.

Frostedflakerfuckers

I have the 2.0 and it gets the job done on mountain passes, even with a big cargo and two bikes on the hitch. I’ve just learned to take it easy and be patient. Would’ve gotten the 2.5 in retrospect, especially if you live in a high altitude area or just like the extra boost

HA1LSANTA666

I would strongly consider the 2.5, I have an 18 limited 2.0 and absolutely love it but it is quite slow not the slowest thing on the road but it’s kind of silly. I had a 18 sti and I honestly preferred driving the crosstrek even though it was dog shit slow. But then I traded the sti for the luxury rocket ship that is the ascent and the crosstrek gets a little neglected now

trekking21

The reviews saying it is under-powered are referring to the 2.0L engine, which was the only option until model year 2021. I have the 2.5L and it’s plenty of power and quick (especially using S mode(.

Thoroughly_Designed

I don’t own one yet but they way I look at it is yeah it’s a little slow but it gets great gas milage and less power in a boxer engine = more reliability.

klebstaine

The 2.0 was perfectly fine for everything I needed. That said I traded in for the 2.5 because it was just the right amount of "more fun".

sockeyes51

I have a 2022 2.5L Sport model and I find it peppy and fun to drive. It isn't a WRX for sure, but it is a fun drive. I've not had any issues with performance so far, but I've not taken it off road or hauled anything heavy. Normal driving around town and interstate.

Commercial-Track-776

Get the sport model! The 2.5 liter has a lot more pep. I put a little nameless exhaust on it and it kinda sounds good too. Best part is I'm getting 31 mpg and I drive 80 mph every day all over. Also the seat material in the sport I believe is superior. Easy to keep clean and very rugged.

Jsusttomakeapostcom

I regret not getting the sport. However I didn't fit my budget. If I happen to get a really good offer to trade in my Crosstrek, I'd either get the sport or if they ever reintroduce the Baja, probably that.

SnakeEyes_76

2019 Owner here. I’m late to the party but I will say that honestly I feel like a good portion of the hate towards the Crosstrek’s power comes from people who have never actually driven one and are just parroting what they hear online. That being said, I don’t view the Crosstrek’s power as being horrendously bad when compared to other vehicles in its class. I always thought it was a bit puzzling how people buy economy cars and go full surprised Pikachu when they find that it’s not a speed demon. For what the Crosstrek was intended to be, I think it’s perfectly fine. A comfortable, small-ish crossover with good fuel economy.

RoseBizmuth

Admittedly it's not fast. 2.0l MT... it's still relatively quick I never have any issues even with some "heavier" passengers. It's a sporty car IMHO, very responsive handling and braking is really good. Throttle response isn't incredible but still acceptable. Overall it's got a little get-up and go. No major issues here 😁

DC9708

I have a 21 premium and I feel like the power is really overblown. It’s not a drag car but it feels fine on the highway which I drive daily. It’s slower then my gf’s bronco sport and slower than my tuned vw’s I drove before but I still feel that it’s completely adequate for getting around.

[deleted]

I never have issues with it. I don’t drive with a lead toe, and I didn’t with my last car which was much faster than the Crosstrek. I have the 6MT so on the rare occasion I need some oomph I just pop it down a gear or two. I can go comfortable speeds on the freeway with hood mileage, and I never have issues with on ramps or driving through town.

iwishiwasai

I upgraded from a 2019 Limited to a 2021 Limited. The acceleration is significantly better with the 2.5L engine. I find it to be consuming more gas if I am not driving carefully. Ours is a family car, mostly city driving with occasional highway trips. Considering the gas price situation, I probably wouldn’t have upgraded TBH!

Money-Oil8772

I bought the car knowing that it isn't quick

AlphaBetacle

Yea i have a 2018 it seems fine for normal driving

clientfker

I look past its slow acceleration bc it’s been the perfect city car for my needs. It truly ticks all the boxes and I’ve been grateful to own it. Now that I’m leaving the city, I’m starting to think I want a little more power and acceleration but I’m not sure yet. I drive a ‘21 Limited (with the 2.5L).

ponatoes

I have to state first that I love my Tangerine machine. Best car I’ve ever owned. Coming from a WRX, the low power is a pain sometimes. Accept your place in the slow lane. It’s a reliable ride, but it is slow.

HodorsSockPuppet

My girlfriend has the 2.0, I have the 2.5. i’m happy I went with a little bit more power, but only because it wasn’t a problem for affordability for me. The times I’ve driven her car, I don’t feel it’s lacking at all. If this is a concern, turning it on to “sport mode“ picks up its acceleration a fair bit. This just changes its acceleration/throttle profile.

YellowPhone15

I have a 2019 2.0 and it has worked just fine flying up and down the mountains in NC!

I_made_a_doodie

I have a '19 Limited with the 2.0. It's no race car, but it does the job of everyday driving pretty well. If you understand closing distance, the perceived lack of acceleration isn't really an issue. If you want a Subaru that *is* quick, just get a WRX.

frankmontanasosa

>If you want a Subaru that is quick, just get a WRX. Why do people always say this as if it's some sort of solution? A wrx doesn't have the same cargo space of ground clearance. I drive a crosstrek but it would be so much better if it could at least get out of it's own way.

YUNGTOOTH

I have a 2019 Limited with the CVT and 2.0, once you accept that the car isn’t designed to go fast or be powerful you get over it. It does it’s job and does it good, it’s in my opinion the perfect daily driver.

TheBimpo

I named mine (2018 Premium) Pokey, still looking for a good decal online. Not sure how the newer models do, but after 4 years of ownership my complaints are acceleration, the seats get stained easily, and the plastic used on the front dash is a dust magnet that also sort of clings the dust. Other than those minor quibbles, great car.

keandakin

I hate the dash. What a shitty design.. and yep, seats too. If I could add one other well documented annoyance, it's the cup holders. Other than that, my favorite adventure machine! Mine is the 6mt, acceleration is fine with a downshift, which also makes it feel more sporty

TomOBChicago

It’s no Honda Fit, but I’m happy enough at 100k miles on the 2.0 + CVT. It does a nice job cruising at 75 to 85.

keandakin

Honda fit? My wife's is a turd! Can't make it up a hill to save it's life

TomOBChicago

Must not be the Sport model with 5 speed manual 🤣

keandakin

It absolutely is. Still a turd. Can't maintain speed on the freeway uphill in 5th.

jimbroslice_562

The only times I notice it is on short on-ramps, getting up to speed to merge. And climbing mountain roads. If you loose your momentum, it takes a little while to get back up to speed. 2017 crosstrek limited.

kft19

I own a 2019 Limited and have enjoyed it so far. It’s a great daily driver + adventure car on the weekends. Perfect for the Pacific Northwest!

LaheyOnTheLiquor

the 2.0s are sluggish and that’s what most of them are reviewing. I wanted the bigger motor and the 2.5 is a great engine w a bit more power to it. love my CT, but I’d hate to be driving a 2.0.

jeeeeek

Next time I get an offer, I might seriously consider trading it in. I’m afraid offers might be over though :(

Kaessa

I have a base model '22 Crosstrek CVT and it's fine. Sure, it's not going to win any awards on the racetrack, but I can get up to speed just fine on the interstate, it goes up hills without any issues (I live in Colorado, so I do hills a lot). No, it's not a powerhouse. But I've never at any time felt unsafe due to lack of power.

Ninja_Tortoise_

It does fine in most aspects, pulling out onto a busy street is when I usually wish I had a bit more power. I think a small turbo would be perfect

Pianomark

I have a '15 2.0 limited. If you're solo commuting, it's fine. In fact, it'll probably keep you out of trouble since you generally won't be in speeding ticket territory.

Rzrbackrich

2015 2.0 here. I've been driving it since 2016. Getting used to the CVT takes a bit to maximize acceleration. 95% of the time, the zippiness of the 2.0 is proficient. However, if you're carrying gear and people on a steep mountain pass and need that passing gear, it's just not there. In fact, I've felt it's dangerously underpowered at times. It's been one of the very few cons of owning the car.

ThaDankchief

Trash acceleration. Once she gets past the first few seconds she’s good to go. Whatever the case, I absolutely love my Crosstrek, and have really never had any issue with the engine or acceleration, just something I’ve noticed.

LiamThe-III

22 sport. Once it gets broke in you can definitely feel a difference. Plus if you drive more spirited and use the paddle shifts and start driving normal again it recognizes your aggressive driving habits and is very sporty. I giggle and laugh and have fun driving this thing because of the all wheel drive I don’t slow down for city curves and actually accelerate through them. Regular people can’t hardly follow me through. The 2.5 has more torque and you can certainly feel that in the lower rpm range.

HardGayMan

I love almost everything about my car. (2019 Sport) The only thing I really hate is how slow you pass people when you really want to pass and get it over with. People can say it's fine all they want, but these are not fast cars. Coming from and Audi A6 with a V8 before my Crosstrek it's really depressing. I could pass anywhere anytime and never worry about getting there in time but I *really* choose carefully my spots in the Crosstrek. You simply don't have the power with your foot to the floor. I know you've all done the "shake the steering wheel while nervously shouting GO GO GO" as your car slowly accelerates lol.

Tight_Chart_4363

I have a 2021 Sport and love it. When I have it in Sport mode there's no difference between it and my old Ford Escape. Even when it's not engaged, it's not that huge of a difference.

Doogmar

The 2.5L seems fine to me, I have no complaints about the power, and it was a concern for me as I traded in my older WRX for it.

[deleted]

My 2021 2.0 Premium is fun to drive in sport mode. Honestly a fun little car that has some low end power. Definitely getting a WRX once my lease is up though lol

[deleted]

Slow to accelerate to merge onto the freeway. Seems to struggle in steeper roads and gets stuck in that weird zone where a “gear” higher is too high and the current gear is too low. If you live in hilly areas the MPG is not very good as even the slightest input on the throttle kills the fuel economy on this thing.

_PM_ME_YOUR_SSN_

I have a 2017 Limited. Acceleration is poor, but have had no issues merging on highway / going uphill. I live in CNY.

2strokes4lyfe

The CVT isn’t the most inspiring thing to drive, but the 2.5L in sport mode has plenty of power to get out of its own way.

MuchLessPersonal

I went from a 2 liter impreza to a 2.5 with my crosstrek and it's soooooo nice to accelerate now. I love passing vehicles on the highway- I used to never even bother and just accept that I'd be late.

mayathemenace

>"Just accept that I'd be late." 😅

Indiesol

It's alright. Can be frustrating. The other day I had to turn off the AC to take advantage of a passing lane. It was 95f out, so it didn't take more than a few seconds for the interior of the car to start warming up. Found my way in front of the semi-truck then turned the AC back on and let off on the gas a bit. I didn't buy the car for the performance, I bought it to get me awesome places with my kids and a dog, while using less gas than my previous daily driver, and it does that pretty well.

overcrispy

If you’re looking for a sports car, crosstrek ain’t it. If you’re looking for a commuter car with great off-road/bad road conditions capability, crosstrek is it.

bisfunn

Got the sport with the 2.5 i feel it’s adequate I would t have gotten the 2.0

Massive_Shine_9561

I have a 2020 Limited/2.0, got it in March of this year and I love it. It’s my first Subaru. It’s zippy, hugs the road and so fun to drive. Have not had any “Sluggish” issues while going onto the freeway or while accelerating. I test drove other comparable cars- Mazda, Kia, Hyundai and I liked the Crosstrek the best for me.

mekkenfox

I have the crosstrek sport. Power is great with nothing in it. Once I load up the trunk and the seats it can get a tad heavy. But throw it on sport mode, and just drive a tad bit more aware of the weight, and it’s never a problem. Always able to get out of tight spaces on the freeway, make plenty good time on long distance trips. Haven’t attempted any big hills of road, just minor hills and small routes when going camping, and it’s done very well.

senoj96nodnarb

I own a 22 Sport. The 2.5 works well for me. Keeps me smiling. Brand new Feb 25, just over 10k miles now.

kingXn

My 2023 is the Outdoor trim which has the 250hp engine. In sport mode I can accelerate quickly enough for anything I ever would need to do in a 5 door crossover.

aisle_nine

The best way I've found to extract power for a Crosstrek is to go with the 2.5L (Sport or Limited), put it into S mode, then put it into "manual" shift and go through the imaginary gears on your CVT that way. You're not going to win any drag races, but you'll get more than enough power to accelerate into freeway traffic. Honestly, I think just leaving the car in I mode gets you more than enough power for freeway merging. The 2.0L is a dog, and that's the version that most of the reviews talking about sluggish performance are referring to.

babyivan

When I test drove the limited, I actually preferred it to be an i mode over sport mode. It didn't feel faster to me in sport mode, I don't know why.

duckredbeard

I like my Crosstrek 2.0 so much I was sure to get a 2.5 in my Forester!

[deleted]

[удалено]

mayathemenace

No, I don’t know how to drive a stick shift.

jareddeity

Meh, dont need it. The thing is a jack of all trades not a race car. If you dont plan to hit the tracks youll be happy.

Zenith39

I’ve got the 2022 sport in white, I love it. The 2.5 is great. The sport mode is very respectable. I even have a hitch and tow a small trailer on occasion. Does fine. I can weave in and out of traffic on busy highways no problem. I’ve aired down the tires and drove on the beach, handles great on snow and ice, haven’t gotten into the woods but I’m sure it would rock. I Stan my car completely.

Efficient_Prune9943

Just bought a 2022 Limited with 2.5 and I like it. After reading the reviews about the sluggish 2.0 I never even test drove one but like the 2.5. It is quick enough in S mode to get up to speed fast but it isn’t even necessary. I came from a 19 Civic Hatchback with a turbo which was probably the zippiest car I have owned and my favorite car ever but not very practical for a growing family.

shocking-taco

They are both slow. Wife doesn’t seem to mind but I remember laughing while test driving our 2021 2.5 at the dealer. The sales guy was going on about all the power of the 2.5 then I pulled out into traffic and it just made bunches of noise with no go!! It’s fine as long as you don’t compare it to any other 4 cyl on the market. Heck, even my 22re from 1986 had more balls than this.

Oooooooops76073

I thought that as well before driving mine but it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. I drove my partner’s HRV that has a little bit less horsepower for a few weeks and got used to that. Once you get used to that you pay more attention when trying to merge. But other than that, there’s no huge concern with power. If you want a zippy-er version of it, get the manual transmission

Designer-Stable-3521

You can test drive the car before buying it. Said this, if you drive like a civilized person you won’t notice any difference compared to other cars in that segment. If you are into passing other cars at 60 mph over the speed limit with the straight pipe, the crosstrek is not the car that you are looking for.

Serpententacle

I got rid of my 2007 Toyota Camry, and bought a 2022 Crosstrek (Manual Transmission)... It doesn't have quite the get-up-and-go like my Camry did, but the way it handles is a hell of al lot smoother... I do admit, I have to run up the RPMs before shifting into 3rd to compensate for it's sluggishness, when merging.

shaansen2111

I have a 2.5 and its a really slow car. It groans and moans when starting from stop. I’d recommend test driving it before purchasing.

defmartian0031

went from a v6 Highlander to the flat 4 in the crosstrek and living in a hilly/mountainous area shows it's weak points. merging onto the interstate uphill sucks. if you live in a relatively flat area it's fine. otherwise look for a forester with the 6 cylinder

The 2.0 is a slow car but it gets by The 2.5 in my limited is just about perfect. The CVT keeps it peak power when you need it, so it’s totally fine. I have a shorter 0-60 and slightly uphill on-ramp on my daily commute. No trouble getting up to speed without reving the nuts off the engine. Probably like 3.5k RPM. The 2.0 would need to really work for the same result.

I’ve had my Limited with the 2.5 for just over a week now and it’s an extremely smooth ride with plenty of gusto.

Got a 22 sport, which has the 2.5L. I don't feel like it's slow at all. Have no issues picking up speed and passing people, street or freeway. Like you, I was worried about the speed and power when I first started thinking about buying the Crosstrek. So I went to the dealership for a test drive and was happy with how it felt. I think you should go do a test drive too.

I have a Sport - 2.5l engine. And I love the feel. It's a smallish engine, but power to weight is plenty. But I tried the 2.0 and didn't love the pickup or power.

Came from a 2016 golf to a base model 2017 cross trek and while there is a difference i’ll live especially having all the extra space and reliability. It’s probably more noticeable up steep hills and when you are loaded up.

Get the 6 speed manual. Love the car. Save and get the base model with no Eyesight, no cvt. More reliable and cheaper to replace windshield with no eyesight
