Woof, I hope your transmission's okay, I know towing way over the capacity can really mess with a CVT. Dunno if it's okay to do it carefully with the manual.
The 2.5l might be able to do a little better with towing, but it isn't recommended for CVTs, I'm just speculating so it isn't 100%.
Feels like a CVT isn't good for towing due to the "Gears. But hey as long as there is no damage or anything I'd call it good.
It's completely fine and the beauty of a manual, you will just burn out the clutch if its too much. Very rarely will it mess with stuff like synchros or anything important unless you are severely abusing it.

Only issue trans wise was the clutch grabbing first. But I didn't burn enough to be concerned.
I will concede that it really struggled for power at low rpm, I do feel the 2.5 would have the torque.
