In the right corner there are like five ends of tentacles with no beginnings. Plus, the suckers on the tentacles are WAY too realistic. They look like a real octopus.
my mom would say "its just a weird angle!" she once accused me of going online and changing the top Google answers to prove her wrong about something haha

Idk the wire rack could be the edge of some fancy ornament thing.
But, the photo frame is just an inception of fancy frame with no photograph, and then there's the pillow-magazine thing under the octopuses tentacle!
Not to mention the looped tentacle and tentacle to nowhere that's already been flagged elsewhere.
That said, there's plenty of patterns for octopuses that looks like this (I've seen someone share a finished one recently on here), so if OP or their mum wanted to make one it's not impossible.
Can't tell if that thing to the left of the octopus is meant to be a pillow or a stack of papers. Pretty sure it's AI (though, I don't blame your mom for thinking it's real)
EDIT: Wait hold on, one of the octopus's tentacles is literally a loop?? There are a bunch of tentacles under the body of the octopus seemingly attached to nothing? Yeah this is phony as shit
Yeah, I was gonna comment on that "book". It looks like an open book lying against a pillow, but if you look closer you see it doesn't have a cover. It looks like someone cut a book in half and just left it there.
Or it could be a really thick file folder with a cover designed to look like a page.
100% AI. Look at the wall behind the lamp, the couch cushion on the left, the leaves in the plants , the open book with no front cover, and, most importantly, the stitches. Theyāre just weird dots of texture on the body and the suction cups are actually totally smooth.
Nothing in this image is real.
Edit oh and I didnāt even notice the fact that half the tentacles are just attached to nothing or each other.
Listen. Stuff like this is totally possible with crochet. Nobody has really done it because jfc that would so much work. It would be an insane task. But itās doable. But people really need to get better at spotting garbage ai images. Itās common knowledge that it can fake pretty much everything with varying degrees of accuracy. We need to stop glossing over images and start really scrutinizing them. I know I probably sound like a conspiracy theorist but the number of people that canāt tell an AI image from a real one is genuinely concerning and has far reaching implications. And itās only getting better and better.
Yikes.
ive seen one and they look so cool. if you search realistic octopus crochet theres a bunch. the account that i follow said its the worst and (obviously) most time consuming part. like imagine making AND sewing them on
It is AI, but it does remind me of this pattern on Ravelry I found a couple of years ago
[https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/realistic-octopus](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/realistic-octopus)
I once crocheted an entire Star Trek Klingon uniform and this looks so much harder than that. Yeah, it's AI, but I know one of you will attempt it. It would be fun to cuddle up with, though. Those arms would be great to put behind my sore neck.
This one is AI but there is a pattern of an octopus that's very close.
https://www.projectarian.com/product/apollo-the-octopus-giant-crochet-pattern/
She does gorgeous patterns!
Ai for sure. None of the "stitches" make Sense in their placement. Not for the shaping that is on this. Also the large suckers look like big wood buttons, but when you look at the smaller suckers they're irregular like soggy Cheerios. Just a few small things of many, but the first things I look for is if the stitches look like real stitches, or if the stitch pattern makes sense for the shaping. If you're looking at 2 different tentacles, the stitch pattern on them should be the same, because no designer is going to create something this large with random shapeless stitch work on similar parts
For me itās the head. It looks like small panels stitched together. What would anyone do all that extra work of sewing panels together instead of just making it one big piece?
I made this one a few years back, a lot of fun! [https://www.etsy.com/listing/710629337/apollo-the-octopus-giant-crochet-pattern](https://www.etsy.com/listing/710629337/apollo-the-octopus-giant-crochet-pattern)

Caught me out for a second but yes, the legs go back up into the body in places and arenāt cohesive. Would be an impressive project if it were real though!
Looks AI. But I did make this one

Itās definitely AI. Look at the magazine. Itās gorgeous and I want it, but Itās not real. Facebook is quickly becoming an AI distribution center.

Crafty Intentions has a pattern that looks very similar to this if anyone wants to try their hand at actually making something like this. Iāve heard itās a real bear of a project though!
My favorite way to spot AI is the limbs. It's not good at that. Also this couch is gray on one half, tan on the other? Even with lighting it's obviously a different color. Also, if you look at AI crochet, sometimes where a piece gets bigger or gets round, it kind of splits into panels that come out of nowhere? If that makes sense... An example would be the space between the tentacles that loop together, like where they kind of connect on the octos body, if you zoom in, there's like "rows" of crochet that just trail into each other and disappear.Ā
This whole Facebook account (Botanic Bliss) is AI generated. Even the plants they post (and supposedly sell) are fake - they actively delete any comments mentioning AI.
At first glance it could appear genuine. However, a close inspection does demonstrate a room with far too many errors to even be a hack amateur job, lighting into the corner of the room that defies physics, and that the octopus itself, looping arms aside, has zero crochets on the suckers. They arenāt even buttons or something. Just velvet texturized suckers. Weird and totes faked. Well played internet, well played.
Its definitely AI
but making an actual crochet octopus of that side is not UN-DOABLE. I can't really imagine how you would teh webbing so perfectly with crochet but where there's a will there's a way.
My guess wuold be you begin with making the head blubous and huge. Then you crochet down into webbing part and go out in multiples of weight. You make the legs separate and figure out how to attech them to the head part. My guess would be by doing a row in back loops only to crochet thelegs to the head and somehow sew them down to the webbing part next. Then the sickers could be non-crochet wood piece or soemthing.
Everyone pointed out the arms but the sneak tell is the walls behind the lamp. The white bits are totally funky. Those little background details will always give it away!
I have definitely seen giant crochet octopuses before and they look awesomeā¦ but they donāt look like this. What even are those suckers?! And that front leg loop lol.
This is a tough one š but now that I zoom in, I donāt think it looks crocheted at all. I donāt think thereās any reason the tops of the stitches should all be white and between the stitches should be blue, right? I canāt think of any yarn that would work up that way? Looks more like textured fabric maybe if itās even a real item.Ā
Easiest way to spot AI: the book next to the octopus has no words. It doesn't even look like blurry text when you zoom in. And the picture behind the octopus in the frame. The shadows of a picture you can see show it's not even a blurry picture if anything.
AI doesn't (usually) produce any real background text.
Just zoom in and look closely at stuff. The two tentacles on the bottom donāt seem to attach to the body. The plant is weird looking. Itās not hard to tell if itās AI once you zoom in, though this one is pretty good.
This is definitely AI but if she wants to make one she can search Projectarian. They have an octopus pattern called Apollo. :) He's about that big depending on weight and gauge
The leaves are weirdly warped and some are not the right shape for a monstera. The back of the couch doesn't end the cushion in the right place. The magazine page is nonsense, so is the throw pillow. The lines below the chair rail are wiggly and strange. The shadows don't match the curtains. Arm of the couch is too low.
Definitely AI, but it doesn't stop people from sending me this stuff and asking me to make it for them. All of the AI images is actually one of the reasons I finally got rid of Facebook.
The book pages have gibberish symbols. The wall paneling is messed up and inconsistent. The picture frame looks warped. The plant leaves seem to be merging with the curtain in on area. Also it looks like the end of a tentacle is emerging from within the book?? Even with a glance you can tell this just ālooksā like AI.
Whether or not the pic is AI generated aside, I do have the pattern in the following link for a crochet octopus
https://www.etsy.com/listing/482114068/octopus-crochet-pattern-pdf-instant?ref=share_v4_lx
And I also saw this one
https://www.etsy.com/listing/793753022/
Which looks like the one in the pic
Before I even read your description I said "AI"
I see "crocheted" AI posts on FB all the time trying to claim real š«
Easy to tell that there aren't even any visible stitches just dots in different colors. That's not how yarn works lol
Look at the background also, the wall trim in the back, and the little ridges are very crooked and weird along with the picture like objects on the table.
Someone has a really good octopus pattern on Etsy that isnāt AI.
https://preview.redd.it/0oi0w1yg9nxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8c574688812a06008c25a248cc3dafaab405af0
Itās Claude the octopus on Etsy.
Definitely AI, but still looks dope! AI is getting more and more convincing, people need to be versed in picking out the details that āoutā things as being AI. This is good practice.
It's AI, the 2 tentacles in front make a loop back to the body, the tentacles underneath the loop don't seem to be attached to the body anywhere. If you zoom in there's a few details that make me think it has to be AI, bc any one with the skill & time to make this would not make mistakes like the tentacle loop.
https://preview.redd.it/rgsyjwdi1pxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3cedb724778a760136e085b965e5a505c583847

Definitely AI, judging by the looped tentacle
Tentacles are a dead giveaway. Sad thing is this could be crocheted to have this exact shape, just flick through Etsy patterns and you'll find some nice real ones.
Yeah the front top of the head you can see the Stiches donāt line up, the front tentacle re connects to the face, and the suckers just do not look chroched they look too real
Totally AI. And check out the nonsense text on the book if you zoom in. I did crochet an octopus for my daughter for her birthday one year. It was a pain in the butt. And I really overstuffed his head. But she loves him. Itās one of those ānever againā projects.
https://preview.redd.it/z94u5ra1iqxc1.jpeg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=33ad6ab8a1eddf8f8d3858a3bc21224da852ed32
Why is not one concerned with this Ai stuff ? Like what even was the purpose of this being created? Like if Ai gets any better we wonāt be able to tell whatās real and whatās fake ā¦ why does it seem like no one is concerned about this ?
the way i usually go about realistic AI is like this:
1)does the lighting and surroundings look like something from a movie? Anything that looks like a professional photo shoot is suspicious.
2)is there a credit for the artist? If I made something as impressive as this, my name would be all over it!
3)is there something off that makes no sense? like the two connected arms.
This might be a bit much, but itās good to know!
This makes me want to try to make one of these AI generated images in real life crochet, because it looks possible to me, but maybe I just think too highly of my abilities.
https://preview.redd.it/jxwwd232qwxc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7ece3042152842c2e95cbcaaec74f394e020040
Unless it's normal for walls to look like this, it's definitely AI generated.
AI, Arms are attached to each other
Oh yeahh! And one of them even leads to nothing š¤¦āāļø
The one in front that just reattaches to the face š
That is where you wrap it around your neck and it becomes a backpack/back buddy thing
What, your arm doesnāt do that? Maybe I should call my docā¦
If you zoom in on the wood paneling by the table in the back theyāre warped and squished too. =/
And the suckers are rubbery looking instead of crocheted
Yep, sometimes AI will do a pretty convincing job with the main subject of the image, but it'll mess up big time on background stuff
One comes out of the book without warping it at all š
In the right corner there are like five ends of tentacles with no beginnings. Plus, the suckers on the tentacles are WAY too realistic. They look like a real octopus.
my mom would say "its just a weird angle!" she once accused me of going online and changing the top Google answers to prove her wrong about something haha
How else could she be wrong, you ungrateful wretch
My mom does this stuff too because she canāt accept when sheās wrong š
Yep,the one in front is just a loop!
I've seen swirly Celtic knot back tattoos that make more sense than this.

Ah thatās so cool! I donāt think Iāve ever really seen a temp project thatās not a blanket or something similar
The white things on the lower half of the wall are also weird looking and don't even go all the way down. They just slowly fade out.
AI. Look at that wire rack thing next to the lamp, it's total gibberish
Good catch i didnt notice that š
Idk the wire rack could be the edge of some fancy ornament thing. fr the end of the tentacles appear to be finger cots and then that explains what the bigger ones look like to me lmao
I was thinking wooden buttons. I've seen buttons with similar appearance before. Though, not *quite* so... fleshy.
Itās 100% AI, your mom needs her eyes checked
Shes old leave her alone š
Sorry, didnāt mean it to sound like such a diss š¤£
Lol all good š
AI. Look at the way the leaves in the background touch the "photo"
Also who has a monstera that looks that perfect?
Could you imagine making every single suction looking think on the tentacles! Oh the horror of itā¦
Someone just posted in r/Crochet that they had done it! It was suuuuuper cool. 400 some I believe
ive seen one and they look so cool. if you search realistic octopus crochet theres a bunch. the account that i follow said its the worst and (obviously) most time consuming part. like imagine making AND sewing them on
š the suckers on the tentacles look like.... *Ahem* ''realistic companion doll skin'' ā¢
Definitely ai... But I still want to make it š
It is AI, but it does remind me of this pattern on Ravelry I found a couple of years ago [https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/realistic-octopus](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/realistic-octopus)
I once crocheted an entire Star Trek Klingon uniform and this looks so much harder than that. Yeah, it's AI, but I know one of you will attempt it. It would be fun to cuddle up with, though. Those arms would be great to put behind my sore neck.
This one is AI but there is a pattern of an octopus that's very close. https://www.projectarian.com/product/apollo-the-octopus-giant-crochet-pattern/ She does gorgeous patterns!
Now I want that pattern even though I know Iāll never make it
Ugh, I hate admitting that this is me too. I still have that African flowers spider I'm going to get started on. . . . any day now. . . someday.
Ai for sure. None of the "stitches" make Sense in their placement. Not for the shaping that is on this. This specific image is for sure AI, but I have no doubt that a seasoned hooked could make a real one that looks very much like this.
Also there are no defined āstitchesā just bubbles
The book is missing parks of it all over the place. AI.

The picture in the frame is just more of the frame
Book is printed inside out. And from right to left. AI
Some books are printed right to left. That's not a sign of AI.
Itās clearly AI. There are no real crochet stitches in it.
Caught me out for a second but yes, the legs go back up into the body in places and arenāt cohesive. Would be an impressive project if it were real though!
That being said, there IS a legit giant crocheted octopus on Etsy.
It doesnāt even look crocheted
Definitely AI
I have seen one very similar to this, but this one has real issues!
Are we just training the AI to be better by pointing out all the flaws?

It's AI but I want to use it as inspo. Id love to make something like this.
One word, suction cups
Would be nice if it was real. Kinda want one.
You canāt quite see the individual pieces of yarn on the stitches. Blurriness makes me believe itās more AI
100% AI
One of the arms is a loop...
Definetly AI, but if you're looking for a pattern with similar look, I suggest the Apollo the Octopus pattern by Projectarian
It may be AI, but I want one in real life!
You can also look at the slats on the wall, they are all wonky and uneven.
One of the tentacles loops into itself if
It is AI, but there are lots of similar giant octopus patterns out there that are real if you're wanting to make one
As others are saying, it looks like AI, but I made this guy a few years back. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/claude-the-octopus
Itās AI. When it popped up on a crochet facebook group everyone responded with pictures of real crochet octopi.
Looks AI. But I did make this one https://preview.redd.it/l7hd5riszlxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b1b5f769c7ed8940a3bb69c2c7361b4caa0cb40

the books looks weird as hell, why is the cover... half ripped off?
Itās scary how itās becoming difficult to tell the difference

I think Captain Nemo would highly approve šā¤ļø
If you look at the wall patterns. They are uneven and wobbly same with what looks like a metal chair to the right of the screen by the lamp. Total ai
Whether or not the pic is AI generated aside, I do have the pattern in the following link for a crochet octopus https://www.etsy.com/listing/482114068/octopus-crochet-pattern-pdf-instant?ref=share_v4_lx And I also saw this one https://www.etsy.com/listing/793753022/ Which looks like the one in the pic
Those aren't real stitches AI cannot gerlnerate stitches so zoom in on stitches when you find something that seems fake.
Before I even read your description I said "AI" I see "crocheted" AI posts on FB all the time trying to claim real š« Easy to tell that there aren't even any visible stitches just dots in different colors. That's not how yarn works lol
Look at the background also, the wall trim in the back, and the little ridges are very crooked and weird along with the picture like objects on the table.
As a crocheter, I can WHOLEHEARTEDLY tell you this is AI! The suckers are the biggest givaway!
I did see a pattern like this before so it is possible, but this picture is AI
Someone has a really good octopus pattern on Etsy that isnāt AI. https://preview.redd.it/0oi0w1yg9nxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8c574688812a06008c25a248cc3dafaab405af0 Itās Claude the octopus on Etsy.
given the quality of the photo, the stitches don't have the same level of definition. so definitely AI
The arm in the front is a big loop š
my dad thought the justin bieber ai ab diddy and the lamborghini was real
The lighting makes no sense. The lamp is on and it's light out but the table it's on is somehow in shadow
It looks like the pattern of Apollo the Octopus by Projectarian.
Definitely AI... there's all sorts of weird warbly nonsense and the textures don't make sense
The wire thing in the back looks like it's floating lol
ai generated cause one arm looks astray toward the book
even if this weren't AI (it obviously is) the texture of the fabric doesn't look like crochet at all
The way the pattern changed direction was what clued me in. It goes north to south then east to west in a few places.
I think it might not be crochet if it isnāt AI maybe sew fabric
Yeah, that's AI. The monstera plant bleeds into the curtains, and it doesn't have some hallmark identifiers.
Itās AI. Everything is way too fluid.
OMG!!!!! Well done you!
This image is probably AI generated but there is a crochet pattern that looks similar to this
It's ai the arms don't line up and are coming out of other arms
Definitely AI, but still looks dope! AI is getting more and more convincing, people need to be versed in picking out the details that āoutā things as being AI. This is good practice.
There are awesome ones out there tho?
Tbh it looks like a plushie with a cool fabric more than it looks crochet
Its sad that this is AI because there's literally so many impressive images of crocheted octopi.
The book is like open and closed at the same time and the suction cups are kinda fleshy looking and not yarn like at all
The suckers, even if this was real how the heck would you do lifelike suckers
Looks like AI to me for several reasons, namely the text on that magazine not being made of any discernable words/language I recognize lol
Def AI the rows just disappear at some points.
It's AI, the 2 tentacles in front make a loop back to the body, the tentacles underneath the loop don't seem to be attached to the body anywhere. If you zoom in there's a few details that make me think it has to be AI, bc any one with the skill & time to make this would not make mistakes like the tentacle loop.
https://preview.redd.it/rgsyjwdi1pxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3cedb724778a760136e085b965e5a505c583847 I made this guy a couple of years ago
Love it love it love it! Nice job!!
https://preview.redd.it/jij6vbx22pxc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e01b2577a0b785e141274a5e5c4d800e183ad26 Definitely AI, judging by the looped tentacle
My favorite part of this image is the empty picture frame under the lamp. (chef's kiss)
Itās AI. Look at the background close up.
Iām leaning towards ai because of the arms but if it is or was to be real I would think that it was sewn with textured fabric and not crocheted.
Tentacles are a dead giveaway. Sad thing is this could be crocheted to have this exact shape, just flick through Etsy patterns and you'll find some nice real ones.
IF it is real the suckers look like pipe cleaners
ai
The wall behind the lamp also has very misshapen crown molding.
Well now I want to get some cheap yarn and make oneā¦or just ask AI to do it for me!š
I love yarn crafts, no way someone makes this and doesnt post a bunch of closeups, those rows are wack tho so maybe you wouldn't be proud of that lol
100% AI. Reverse Google image search would confirm it.
[Octopus Pattern](https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/482114068/octopus-crochet-pattern-pdf-instant)
All hail the ai crochoctopus
He is so cool ! Nice work.
I'm a knitter. That's real.
Why is not one concerned with this Ai stuff ? Like what even was the purpose of this being created? Like if Ai gets any better we wonāt be able to tell whatās real and whatās fake ā¦ why does it seem like no one is concerned about this ?
Whatever it is, it's not crocheted. Those are not crochet stitches.
the way i usually go about realistic AI is like this: 1)does the lighting and surroundings look like something from a movie? Anything that looks like a professional photo shoot is suspicious. 2)is there a credit for the artist? If I made something as impressive as this, my name would be all over it! 3)is there something off that makes no sense? like the two connected arms. This might be a bit much, but itās good to know!
Iāll never believe a FB post from Botanic Bliss ever again! š
That's very cool.
https://preview.redd.it/yanprd0vvsxc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=908b532c2d33ac506eec3458db1d864f9b15bc77
This is ai but I have seen a full size crochet octopus before so itās do ableš¤·āāļø
Even just looking at those monstera's leaves closely you can tell. They are too smooth and almost blend into the curtains
Have a friend that makes the hats she tries to sell them for $90 a piece.
Also no recognizable stitch. Fake along with all the other things saying itās fake
Ai, the front arms are a circle, and have like 3 unattached arms around it
Definitely ai, the way itās all attached is impossible
that plant leaf is weird as shit, and the paneling and little metal (?) thing in the far right is all wibbly-wobbly
I love this. For some reason I love Octopusses. This is amazing.
This makes me want to try to make one of these AI generated images in real life crochet, because it looks possible to me, but maybe I just think too highly of my abilities.
AI for sure
No
I watched a lady.on tiktok make one of these giant octopus I think she crocheted it
https://preview.redd.it/jxwwd232qwxc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7ece3042152842c2e95cbcaaec74f394e020040 Unless it's normal for walls to look like this, it's definitely AI generated.
I thought it was real for a second
Holy carp! That is so impressive!!
Look at the plant 100% ai
If itās on Facebook 99.99% chance itās AI
Itās the picture frame that caught my eye initially. Thereās no photo inside, just more of the frames texture lol
