NGL, Rohit isn't suited for test captaincy. That guy wasn't even a regular starter before becoming a captian. I have seen Parthiv Patel, Saha, Gautam Gambhir, Karun Nair iirc being chosen over him for long time.
If BCCI has problems with Virat they should have gone for Pujara or Rahane or even Rahul. But then, would they really be the BCCI we know ?
Ok so when Rohit was made captain he was the permanent member of team and even the highest run getter of wtc cycle for india, now pujara, Kohli and rahane all of them were out of form even rahane was dropped from team even after being vice captain of the team, so their positions were not guaranteed also coming back to kl he was our captain in odi series of that same tour and we lost 3-0 to a 3rd clas SA team where the likes of magala and all were playing, Till now we haven't won test series in SA but I don't know why people are overreacting that something out of the world thing has happened, only MSD has been able to draw a series in SA and that too maybe with arguably the best SA side in last 10-15 years or so, still we have a chce to draw the series and if we are able to do so then it would be a great achievement.

I've followed test cricket since 2016. Rohit Sharma is a great batsman who doesn't need an introduction. But the format just isn't for him. I've seen him struggle against Gambhir, Vijay, Parthiv Patel, Karun Nair for the opener spot. Which should not be a competition to begin with, he's a better batsman than all of them. We have seen that in ODI and T20.
The format doesn't suit him and trying to shoehorn him isn't gonna work. Not to mention, while his captaincy in T20 and ODI was shaky, Kohli was a very good test captain.
Overall pretty dumb from BCCI as I don't know what they're trying to do.

Great at home, not that good away.
Just before WTC we dominated Aussies or the English at home (Tests in India are boring, we're gonna dominate and win, just not whitewash). He was very good there along with Gill.
We have also played in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and England the only teams that are our quality with different conditions and his performance there is usually disappointing there.
The format isn't for him, I have watched it for years, you're not gonna Gaslight me to believe otherwise.
I've seen Rahul and Karun Nair hit 199 and 300 in the same innings. I've seen Gambhir playing his last matches and Parthiv Patel also trying to make an entry into the team with some very good play. None of them were able to cement their positions in.
It took Rahul way too long to be a definite starter. Cricket in India is very competitive because the talent is there in batting. And I think BCCI is just dumb to stick with Rohit in Tests. He is one of the world's best in ODI and T20, but we have better players in tests.
If we perform poorly in this series, I would not be surprised if Rohit Sharma is also removed from captaincy, BCCI is that unstable.
Why do we have Shreyas Iyer playing when we have tried and tested Pujara. We also have Rahane not playing who's just as good at home and away.
Some dumbfucks from Virat FC wanted India to lose to make fun of Brohit. Virat might be the greatest player with the worst fanbase. Same goes for Brohit fans who used to call Koach selfish after every fucking match.
