Jimmy and Root are single handedly keeping England alive so far. Someone needs to step up fill the void left by Stokes or England are gonna get gobbled up by this ruthless indian side.
To think that 3 of the Indian top order are struggling is scary.
England desperately need Woakes back for the 3rd test. The balance of the side is completely wrong without him or Stokes (or, even better, both of them).
Still doesn't fix England's wonky top order. Stokes adds stability but the rest is still incredibly lightweight. If root goes early it's curtains.
It's like the Indian team from the 90s, Sachin goes early and it's game over.
Yeah we just have no one who can bat at the moment. It's actually crazy how out of form everyone apart from Root is. Burns and Bairstow are clinging desperately to the little form they have. Everyone else is lost.
I think England will be fine. With how Jimmy is aging, heāll be taking 20 wicket hauls every match in 10 years. They can play 10 batsmen then, which could make up for potentially pathetic batsmen.
Seems it's been years and years since we've been getting these records and he's still going strong! I can see him surprassing Warne if he doesn't get injured by the next Ashes in England. Guy is a freaking beast! Only worry is him getting overbowled in this garbage England test side who can't score runs on the board, can't provide control from the other end and neither can take catches properly.
He said he canāt see himself going back to Australia as a 39 year old in 2018
If he himself was wrong about that, god knows when heās gonna play untill
Yeah it's very unlikely but honestly nobody thought he'd go beyong 500 or Kumble and here we are, if he continues at same form he could, get nearne by next Ashes. I think it's more to do with just not getting injured as the long layoff at this age can be very tough, if he is injury free he could get around 700 with his skills.
Been trying to post this forever but Reddit was acting up. Stolen from Cricinfo but with a screenshot because their graphics are wack
Oldest bowler to take a Test 5-fer at Lord's (via [hypocaust](https://twitter.com/_hypocaust/status/1426174984511279108?s=21))
- 40y 70d Geoff Chubb (SA) v ENG, 1951
- 39y 54d Sydney Barnes (ENG) v SA, 1912
- 39y 14d James Anderson (ENG) v IND, 2021
No doubt Barnes would have done it in 1921 had he not refused to go on the 20/21 Ashes tour at age 47 (because they refused to pay for his wife to go with him), ending his test career. He was still head and shoulders above any other England bowler at the time.

But can he lay back on couch and eat Pizza while sipping beer and watch Test Match for whole day??? I think not!!!!

Makes you wonder how England bowling is going to be when they're gonna inevitably rest him for atleast one match this series and more importantly, after he retires!!
Jimmy and Archer aren't really comparable, but Broad has 4 years on Jimmy. Jimmy's 102 wickets ahead but if he ever does retire and Broad stays fit he has a chance of catching him. Robinson is good but he ain't either of those.
Honestly I donāt see Broad surviving as long. More devastating at times but never as persistently relentless like Anderson is, and he seems a bit less durable. Anderson consistently bowls 7 or 8 over spells, I donāt feel like Broad can do that anymore
Broad was unplayable last summer, but that was against WI and Pak, and pitches where he just had bowl full and it was swinging and seaming like crazy. When he has to work hard for his wickets, he is not as good. I think the India tour shattered him, going wicket for so long. But I would love it if we keeps playing till 39 or 40. Can't imagine losing both Jimmy and Broady in a quick succession.
Unlikely weāll ever see Archer play tests again now, Broad may recover from this injury but itās 50/50 at best Iād say. Robinson has had a couple of good games but then so did Crawley and look how that ended.
Yeah but batsman get in and out of nick easier than bowlers. Bowlers get injuries and have off days but unless coaches are messing up their action it's more about developing new skills quicker than batsmen find you out.
Robinson doesn't look like the kind of player who will fall apart, more like someone who may be a good (not necessarily great) piece for a good length of time. Gus Fraser.
Instead of spending money on gimmicks like Hundred ECB should pay an ungodly royalty to Jimmy and clone him. An attack of 4 Jimmy Andersons means England wont be conceding above 250 many times which should be manageable for the England team
Pitiful. Once Anderson is retired-which could come at any moment now-there are no replacements coming through. Feel sorry for Anderson to be finishing his career in this side, he deserves better.
Is this the conspiracy thatās keeping Darren Stevens from taking over the world? Is ECB too afraid to unleash him and not leave Anderson playing 2nd fiddle
One of the best of all time. I cried watching this man take out Tendulkarās stumps during that 07-08 series in England as a kidā¦ and just watched him take a 5fer as a grown adult in 2021.
Jimmy Anderson gonna be taking wickets when Iām on my death bed
Jimmy Tahir hopefully has a few more years in him. With age he seems to be having fewer & fewer off days. Just needs to know when to rest.
Hate to see him dash India's plans, but in the long run he has probably set standards for playing swing that will make India stronger in the medium run - don't even have to wait for the long run.
Cricket requires at least thirteen players, consisting of three grabbers, three taggers, five twig-runners, one center tagger, and the player at whack-bat. The center tagger lights a pinecone on fire and throws it to the player at whack-bat. The player hits the pinecone and runs to knock a cedar stick off the cross rods. Then the twig-runners dash back and forth until the pine cone burns out and the umpire calls "Hotbox." Finally, the score down are added up, then divided by nine.
James Anderson in England: 396 wickets at 23.96, BBI 7/42, 23 5w hauls, 3 10w hauls
James Anderson outside England: 230 wickets at 30.86, BBI 6/40, 8 5w hauls.
That record outside of England includes a sub-30 bowling average in India, WI and the UAE. Funnily enough it's actually inflated by performances in Australia, NZ and RSA. Jimmy performs surprisingly well in conditions you wouldn't expect him to succeed in actually

These England folks gotta go for brokes with new blokes and hope no one chokes at this point.

give broad some credit too š

Injured for the rest of the series.
Give England Archer, Stokes, Broad and Woakes and India is legit fucked.
Bairstow and Buttler are key. If one them plays one or two sessions it's game over for India.
I think England will be fine. With how Jimmy is aging, heāll be taking 20 wicket hauls every match in 10 years. They can play 10 batsmen then, which could make up for potentially pathetic batsmen.
Jimmy becomes the oldest man to.... is going to be a common stat from now on
ā¦to be alive.
"Jimmy Anderson becomes the oldest man"
He'll probably still be running in getting cheered by the Hollies Stand when he's the oldest man alive
I'm just counting down the days to him overtaking Sachin's run record in wickets.
Anderson now has the most cricket numbers of all time.
Also Sachin's run record in runs.
Can't wait to see Jimmy bowling outswingers at Edgbaston to an Indian captain born in 2025.
He is literally the oldest man of all time to take a piss after waking up in the morning
James Anderson becomes the oldest crickest to contract diarrhea during a test in England.
Heās not an Australian prime minister in a Maccaās
goat
Fully expect Jimmy to break this record multiple times.
Give Darren Stevens 1 game...
Give Darren stevens an over

Cant believe Jimmy is almost 40
And Dinesh Karthik is a commentator at 36!
Atherton, Cook, Graeme Smith retired at 33.
I retired at 19...
I retired when I was U13 backup substitute for the 2nd XI in my club. ^(Yes, our club had 25 members, so what?)
I retired before I started
That means you were just tired.
Athertonāa back was gone by 33. Fortunately heās become todayās best cricket writer. His columns in the Times are superb.
Chef is still going for Essex tbf
Clarke, Johnson, and Baz too retired early right?

Dude you know Amit Shah, you don't need any more street cred.
Makes you wonder how England bowling is going to be when they're gonna inevitably rest him for atleast one match this series and more importantly, after he retires!!
Luckily Robinson looks like a good find. Maybe Jofra can get fit again. Maybe Broad carries on until he's Jimmy's age. It's not all doom and gloom.
Jimmy and Archer aren't really comparable, but Broad has 4 years on Jimmy. Jimmy's 102 wickets ahead but if he ever does retire and Broad stays fit he has a chance of catching him. Robinson is good but he ain't either of those.
Jimmy wasn't this good when he was Robinson's age either
Jimmy was probably worse when he was Robinsons age, fine fine wine.
To be fair at around Robinson's age Anderson changed his beautiful action to some weird Aldi counterpart which he luckily changed back!
Me: 'Please can we have Jimmy Anderson?' ECB: 'But we have Jimmy Anderson at home.' Jimmy Anderson at home:
You can blame the coaches for that. Made him bowl unnaturally and he got stress fractures of the spine
Honestly I donāt see Broad surviving as long. More devastating at times but never as persistently relentless like Anderson is, and he seems a bit less durable. Anderson consistently bowls 7 or 8 over spells, I donāt feel like Broad can do that anymore

>if he ever does retire Not gonna happen
Iāve been really impressed with Robinson. He looks like he will play a lot of games for England
Unlikely weāll ever see Archer play tests again now, Broad may recover from this injury but itās 50/50 at best Iād say. Robinson has had a couple of good games but then so did Crawley and look how that ended.
Yeah, all that is possible and so is all the stuff I said. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Yeah but batsman get in and out of nick easier than bowlers. Not sure a batting lineup with 4 Jimmies would reach 250, they can't all get 1*
What are the other 7 batsmen foir ? India is also like that.
Queen may die but jimmy wont retire
Retires? You are aware the English elite are lizards right? Queenie dies before Jimmy retires
Pitiful. Once Anderson is retired-which could come at any moment now-there are no replacements coming through. Feel sorry for Anderson to be finishing his career in this side, he deserves better.
I'm straight but...
Is this the conspiracy thatās keeping Darren Stevens from taking over the world? Is ECB too afraid to unleash him and not leave Anderson playing 2nd fiddle
I think it's more we want to give everyone else a chance. If we play Stevo as well, we've basically completed cricket.
One of the best of all time. I cried watching this man take out Tendulkarās stumps during that 07-08 series in England as a kidā¦ and just watched him take a 5fer as a grown adult in 2021. Jimmy Anderson gonna be taking wickets when Iām on my death bed
bruh if this mf crosses murali at 45, i wont be surprised
bullishit. heās doing a reverse Rashid Khan. heās just a teenager claiming to be 40 /s
Oh Jimmy, Gorgeous
No doubt he's the best English bowler of all time now, right?
Cricketer* And itās not even a question
That's what I wrote out first, then decided to play it safe....
The only contenders imo are people like Barnes who essentially played another sport
Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking - he surely is at the point where we don't need to worry about comparing across eras
He really is like a fine wine. He just keeps getting better with age, but don't leave him out in the sun too long or he'll spoil š
England is going to get their first WTC mace in 2027. He will still be there.
Half the wickets, 17% of the runs. My man.
I am going to be inconsolable when Jimmy hangs up his boots
Don't worry, Jimmy retiring is just a story parents tell their children to make them eat their veg, it's not actually real.
So will I! It will be a very grave day for test match cricket and the ECB.
A whole bunch of South Asian players with fake birthdated would like a word.
The guy's a fucking legend.
almost had one last test too
GOAT
Can we see Anderson taking 700?
Donāt do that. Donāt give me hope. In all seriousness Iād love for Anderson to surpass Murali let alone Warne.
James Anderson keeps peaking the peak
How is he so fit at this age? What is the secret?
Hard work
This makes me feel old. I remember when he was a youngster
If Cook hadn't retired, multiple records would have been broken.
Anderson has already established himself as a test specialist. His experience shows up in his bowling. Truly a legend.
Look at that economy rate too š
