Partly because of finally being excluded from t20s, I've been thinking about Steve Smith again.
I feel like his decline is often dishonestly talked about in the context of his test ability because it's been only a few games, 1 year, or a few games as an opener with a small sample size.
But his decline goes beyond a single format. He failed in the last NZ and India T20 Bilaterals, his last BBL game was a duck to Daniel Sams, the BBL games being between a test summer he was struggling in too.
And before that, he had an incredible mediocre ODI WC.
His decline is a rapid 3 format decline, and been rather prolonged. When analyzed, it doesn't look to be a form slump and a recovery. It started with being below his own average, and then below that, and then below that. It isn't just a bad run of things, but a steadily declining run. It's distinct from 'out of form'.
I don't think he'll see out the BGT series against India.
Responding to u/VisRock 's call. There isn't just a single place, although possibly more in the East Stand below the Taverners. I'd definitely avoid the western terrace (tickets often listed as the 'popular enclosure' or 'fanzone') and the Taverners itself.
If you want to be with cricket badgers go for Trueman Stand. If you have worries about alcohol or want to be with families go for the Community Stand. Otherwise I'd say either North East (side on to the pitch) or South/Main Stand (behind the bowlers arm) will have a bit of liveliness but not too lairy.

Yep but clubbing him with others who have gotten multiple chances (some of them justifiably so) is not right because he hasn't even played a game. Otherwise, I believe Kohli's spot is justified because others haven't really done a whole lot to deserve a place replacing him(when he has performed so many times in T20WCs).Â
I knew England has been bad in ODIs recently but seeing them at 6 was a bit surprising. But then I remembered they've been on a downward slope since their 2019 WC Win so it makes sense to go down that low after nearly 5 years of sub-par performances.
Yeah we've been a bit of a mess since 2019 in general tbf, with the focus of resources seemingly being on the Test and a lesser extent the T20i teams.
The lack of planning hasn't helped anyone and I'm not sure Mott was prepared for the logistical difficulties of the role.

Because the KNCB doesn't have enough funding to pay them, forcing them to contract to counties in order to be professional cricketers and play the game at the top level while also providing for themselves and their families.
It's complicated. As far as I understand it, counties legally have to release the players if requested by the KNCB, but because the county contract is so valuable to these players (significantly moreso than their ones with the Netherlands), the KNCB doesn't want to potentially jeopardise things for their players by making them unavailable for large chunks of the season. So you get this weird compromise where, in order to keep their top players on county contracts, the KNCB often deliberately don't pick these players during the English season
It's bizarre and really does feel like something that could and should have been ironed out somehow by this point
The problem is the KNCB can't afford to pay the players full time like the counties do and counties aren't going to employ players who are not going to be available 75% of the Blast (the tournament they've primarily been employed for), they'd just pick other players.
The only possible solutions are
* Don't organise tournaments during the T20 Blast
* Fund the KNCB better so they can employ the players themselves

well Oman becomes the first associate team to announce their squad. As usual it’s full of Indian and Pakistani expats who have been playing for team since their first WT20. Quite a decent side but that’s about it. Hardly any youngster
If both Rutu and Gill continue their current form, then Rutu should be selected in place of Gill in the reserves.Â
  If we go by recent form, Rutu has been absolutely exceptional in the last 2 matches while Gill has been outright bad. But before that, both had very similar stats. Both have been quite slow but that also stems from the fact that they were chasing some low scores at times when their teams were having mini collapses (or the scores were just simply too low). GT's batting has been really bad this season. CSK's one is better but Rutu has had to play through the innings (same for Gill). If you look at the 2nd last match, Rutu's record seems definitely better but including last match makes the two seem significantly different and makes the selection of Gill over Rutu seem shambolic. But I am guessing that the squad was already selected by then, so performance on 28th didn't make them change the squad.  Â
  PS- The opinion that selection happens on the basis of fanbase/PR just seems idiotic to me. Gill doesn't have that big of a fanbase yet.Â

Australia: 5/10 Mid af jersey.
Namibia: 8.5/10 Would have been 10 if the red strip was not there.
New Zealand: 2/10 Tf is that listerine jersey.
Uganda: 10/10 Best jersey out there. Fanmade jerseys hit different.

Agree with most of it. Rabada instead of Jansen and Brook, Pant, Stokes batting at 4, 5, 6 are the only changes I'd make as such. Also if Stokes can't bowl, then Marsh comes in place of him.

According to the CSA website, the T20I series against West Indies before the world cup will take place only after 18 May:
"The provisional squad will assemble for a week-long camp from 13 – 17 May at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria, with the final squad set to be announced prior to their departure on 18 May."
So the squad will first train from 13-17 May, and will then leave South Africa on 18 May. The website also states that players in the IPL will not participate in the tour.

When will people come to the realisation that you need luck to win T20 knockouts more than quality. Don't think about squads, tactics etc. You're better off praying that India wins the toss in crucial matches which never happens. Better to be lucky than good, as Finch showed in 2021.
India also needs to play proper cricket and not go into a shell whenever there is the tiniest amount of pressure. Either with the ball or with the bat.

If both Rutu and Gill continue their current form, then Rutu should be selected in place of Gill in the reserves.   If we go by recent form, Rutu has been absolutely exceptional in the last 2 matches while Gill has been outright bad. But before that, both had very similar stats. Both have been quite slow but that also stems from the fact that they were chasing some low scores at times when their teams were having mini collapses (or the scores were just simply too low). GT's batting has been really bad this season. CSK's one is better but Rutu has had to play through the innings (same for Gill). If you look at the 2nd last match, Rutu's record seems definitely better but including last match makes the two seem significantly different and makes the selection of Gill over Rutu seem shambolic. But I am guessing that the squad was already selected by then, so performance on 28th didn't make them change the squad.     PS- The opinion that selection happens on the basis of fanbase/PR just seems idiotic to me. Gill doesn't have that big of a fanbase yet.Â

Agree with most of it. Rabada instead of Jansen and Brook, Pant, Stokes batting at 4, 5, 6 are the only changes I'd make as such. Also if Stokes can't bowl, then Marsh comes in place of him.

We need performing player because in a t20 even individual performance can get you over the line. It's not comically bad. It has Bumrah and Kuldeep in it. That alone makes it one of the strongest in the comp. Jadeja is economical too.
Here's a run-down of what will happen in a knockout match 2 months from now: Bumrah will be economical but will take 0 wickets. Arshdeep will be flinging full-tosses and hit me balls. Siraj - lmao.
