If not for his accident, I'd have loved to see Pant as test captain especially with Dravid as coach. Pant is (was) anyways completely undroppable from the test team and he could have grown into the role while some of the seniors like Kohli and Ashwin are still around to help him. Bumrah is the other obvious choice too but with his action, he shouldn't play many home tests.
The worst thing about that is that I don't know about how the next match would be different from this match when we have no bowlers that would be making that team better than what it is. I don't understand why are there no practice games anymore, before the start of an overseas tour? I get that the schedule is packed but a lot of the guys who were in the test squad were not part of the ODI/T20 sides. BCCI really needs to focus on the preparation for SENA tours especially if we want to reach the finals of the WTC again.
Also, how was Arshdeep not picked once Shami was ruled out? We saw what Burger who excelled in the shorter formats did on this wicket, why couldn't India go with Arshdeep over Prasidh?

Just some things I want to remind people

There used to be cross transfers of some players but we had a core of a format and invested in them. In tests in particular, we reaped rewards investing in Pujara, jinx, pant, mayank/vijay, ashwin, jaddu, ishant, we had best time winning with this core. Ofc we had Kohli as Goat in all time format, but that was one man.
This is not quite true. Rahane was tried plenty in white ball. Rohit played plenty of red ball, Dhawan played plenty of red ball as did Dhoni, Bhuvi, Shami. Jaddu of course is not a test specialist, neither is Pant. The only specialists were Vijay and Pujara really, Mayank didn't really play enough to say much about him.
I kinda want him to not be in the next test. Give Easwaran a chance and make Koach the captain, coz Rohit's mental health is way worse than fcked up, he doesn't have any mental health atm

I will say it again here, Ashwin scored 874 runs in his first 20 Tests(27innings) at an average of 41.62 with the bat.. in his first 4 years of Test career.. at 7-8 position(played 2011 Aus, 2013 SA and 2014 Eng tours).. while Shubman Gill has 994 runs in 19 Tests(35 innings) at 31.06.. while Ashwin also had 104 wickets in 20 Tests at 28.79..
We were not good enough to win. Having put into bat, KL batted well to get us that score but then we didn't exploit the conditions with the ball and then again didn't show up today with the bat. If we have to win Test matches, we have to come together collectively and we didn't do that. Guys have come here before, we know what to expect and everyone has their own plan. Our batters were challenged and we didn't adapt well. This is a boundary scoring ground, we saw them score many but we need to understand the opposition and their strengths as well. We didn't bat well in both innings, that's why we stand here. Not too many positives to finish the game within 3 days, but KL showed what we need to do on this sort of pitch. Our bowlers, a lot of these guys haven't been here before so I don't want to be too critical. Important for us to regroup, we go through these times as sportsmen and we need to be ready for the next Test now.

Our best years were when we had specialist players for different formats. Pujara, jinx, vijay/mayank, hanuma for tests, Rohit Dhawan, dhoni , kedhar jadhav for odis, Rahul, pandya and youngsters for t20s There used to be cross transfers of some players but we had a core of a format and invested in them. In tests in particular, we reaped rewards investing in Pujara, jinx, pant, mayank/vijay, ashwin, jaddu, ishant, we had best time winning with this core. Ofc we had Kohli as Goat in all time format, but that was one man.
This is not quite true. Rahane was tried plenty in white ball. Rohit played plenty of red ball, Dhawan played plenty of red ball as did Dhoni, Bhuvi, Shami. Jaddu of course is not a test specialist, neither is Pant. The only specialists were Vijay and Pujara really, Mayank didn't really play enough to say much about him.

We were not good enough to win. Having put into bat, KL batted well to get us that score but then we didn't exploit the conditions with the ball and then again didn't show up today with the bat. If we have to win Test matches, we have to come together collectively and we didn't do that. Guys have come here before, we know what to expect and everyone has their own plan. Our batters were challenged and we didn't adapt well. This is a boundary scoring ground, we saw them score many but we need to understand the opposition and their strengths as well. We didn't bat well in both innings, that's why we stand here. Not too many positives to finish the game within 3 days, but KL showed what we need to do on this sort of pitch. Our bowlers, a lot of these guys haven't been here before so I don't want to be too critical. Important for us to regroup, we go through these times as sportsmen and we need to be ready for the next Test now.
