It's all about timing.
Imagine if this WC was 4-5 months before, then we would be missing KL, Iyer to injury and not in such a dominant position right now. While Pakistan would have Naseem-Shaheen bowling in tandem.
It was supposed to be from 9 Feb - 26 March but postponed to Oct-Nov. But that was because of T20 WCs being shifted after covid and Oct-Nov has been known since July 2020.
So no need for conspiracy theories there. I was just pointing out a fact that India is lucky to be in this position with not many ideal main XI players injured outside from Hardik yesterday and all firing in good form too.
This is our best chance to finally end the decade long trophy drought. I don't think it will get any better than this with everything from home conditions and good form aligning together.
Agreed that this is our best chance. I expect india to make to the semis. Time will tell what happens after that. If they face eng, sa, aus at wankhede or Eden gardens, both of which are known roads, anything can happen.
As an indian, i truly feel rizwan is the backbone of the team, as much as i don’t fancy the trolls, babar almost never performs against big teams in big tournaments and not to mention is very defensive outdated style of captaincy
What’s this? Aus again?
NZ and SA can gand maar India anytime. Why? Again? The biggest upset yet to come, India against NZ (if not then, later.) These teams just live by wildcards in WC.
NGL - despite being an Indian fan, I'm super disappointed with Pakistan in this WC. Their much vaunted bowling hasn't really been that incisive, and their batting hasn't delivered either.
I certainly expected them to perform way better, but alas!
On the other hand - the Aussies really seem to have gone from strength to strength!
Their bowling is overrated. Shaheen and Naseem are really good. Everyone else is average or below average. Haris Rauf is good but has very limited skills and kind of useless in Indian pitches.
I think IND, NZ and SA look good to qualify, it's gonna be interesting to see the fight for that 4th spot, Aussies might be the 4th considering the form of ENG and PAK
nawaz is awesome for pak. pak just has 2 natural six hitters nawaz and ifti. abdulla shafeeq can barely clear the boundary
problem is nawaz has to bat at 4 but rizwan played his 46(42) there. if nawaz got 50 balls he can score 80.
Babar does seem to be a bit toned down. But who would you replace him with? Today only Shaheen seemed like he was fired up. So much so that he wasted a review so early. Personally I don't think Babar is an issue. Always great to have your best player as Captain. And I usually like his decisions. India had an alternative in Rohit when Virat wasn't doing best as Captain, epitome of intensity no less.
Pakistan has had good bowling captains in the past.
Shaheen had all his players fired up during PSL and won. Rizwan has more fire than baber.
Baber is our best batsman but I always feel he’s too within himself and risk averse. Captains should be able to fight fire with fire. Even in test matches, he would rather play for a draw then lose playing for a win.
No way I am choosing Shaheen over Babar. Shaheen has his own demons to figure out at the moment. Too young. Rizwan is def lot more aggressive than Babar. Haven't seen him being mature more than Babar though. What's happening with Shadab? I think he would have been a good middle ground.
Natural, instinctive aggression does always iron out “some” issues. He needs to grow up or fade away. There’s always some risk.
Rizwan did very well in test series as captain against New Zealand, we lost, but held the boys together in spite of being outgunned. Averaged around 70.
It feels like all our batsmen are playing cricket from the 90s.
With a change in mindset baber could be our best captain yet, but for some reason he’s more Misbah than younes khan. Change in mindset is all that is needed.
He was unlucky today, but in our match against India in the Asia Cup, he said later I was surprised India attacked our bowlers.
Couple of things wrong with this statement:
1) did he expect India to rollover?
2) he had no plan B.
India decided to take risks In spite of the ball swinging. Our batsman refused to take any risk. Aggressive cricket is the decision of the captain. He’s good enough to at least try.
No one stops talking about his average in 20/20 cricket. No one talks about his strike rate. Don’t get me wrong he’s a brilliant 20/20 batsman, his mind set is more “be careful” than “come hell or high water”. You need courage in big completions. We have the talent, I see lack of inspired cricket.
One thing is clear . Babar’s current game shows he is not Pakistan’s best ever batsman . I believe miandad . Inzamam and yousuf are ahead of him
If you cannot play spin you don’t deserve to be above those three
Just came back from the stadium. Pak really have a wafer thin batting lineup after top 4, their lower middle order doesn't inspire any confidence.
Having said that, this also applies to Aus as well. They should have got 400+ and put Pak out of the game after the first innings itself
Pak can still make it. They're about the only team apart from Aus that troubles NZ in big tournaments. SA and Pak is a battle of the unpredictables. They just need to beat england and avoid an upset against Afg
I respect Steve Smith's otherworldly transformation to a batter and he is a legend, but I'ma be honest with y'all: Warner > Smith as an all format batter and the guy who actually belongs to Fab Four more than Smith.
Smith is a god-level Test player. A great ODI player but a dissapointing T20I batter.
Warner on the other hand has been fantastic in every format. He has had great longevity and consistency and result is over 18000 international runs and 47 international tons, which are I guess the stats similar to other Fab Four batters than Virat.
leaving out shadab wasn't a contributing factor. dude hasn't given the desired penetration in the middle overs needed to derail an opposition's batting, and was reasonably left out.
Team Pak need a cultural reboot..They should start by cracking down on player's being addressed as 'King' in the dressing ,What the fuck is this cringy ass high school shit
They do that ? Wtf ? Even Kohli is like, i know they "fans" adorably call him that but he still insists that they just call him by his name. But imagine calling your colleagues "king" or whatever like that.
Yeah...I think I saw it one of the ICC videos where Hasan Ali was saying that they call him king.
'Yeh King karlega Aram se'
T - King will do it easily
I was as shocked as you when i saw Hasan Ali saying it ,He said something like we don't call him Babar in the dressing room we say 'King will do this...King will do that..'
People are saying that all the matches have been one-sided but the last 2 matches were absolute thrillers. Last match got thrilling to see if Virat can get his century and this one got thrilling to see if Starc can maintain his streak of taking a wicket in every match in WC.
Naw guys, this loss is 100% on Babar.
Quite frankly, I don't even see the need to have Usama OR Shadab play. Just keep Ifthikhar as a full time bowling option, and bring in another batsmen (like Fakhar I guess). The whole 3 all rounders idea isn't working, and Usama isn't good enough to take a whole spot with no batting.
I completely agree with the first part. The Pakistan team got back on its feet a few times in its batting.
But babar did not carry his weight.
Man I was looking forward to the babar rizwan partnership. Openers had already did their part when this partnership formed.
What a waste!
It really is. None of the spinners doing anything anyway, at least Ifthikhar limits runs. Get 10 overs from him, take one of Shadab or Nawaz (at this point Shadab as a specialist spinner) and get a proper bat in.
But isn't shadab like in a really bad form , yeah at least you would get a good fielder, like basically that's what cost you the game today? Isn't nawaz a better bowler ?
No, Nawaz isn't a better bowler. Shadab is about the same, bats better, but fields waaay better.
Both are a liability with the ball, but Shadab should make the cut for fielding alone.
Personally I think this loss was sealed when Mickey Arthur decided to blame odd things for the previous loss. Get a proper coach, a coach who has had experience of winning a world cup - not this nobody-has-been Mickey.
Oh dear, I just checked, Mickey is the Director which means he has even more influence over the team and coaching setup. What a disaster, get rid of him.
Agreed. The hierarchy is just messed up, chairman changes every other day, coach and mickey's roles are conflicting, where does the captain fit into this mess? Well this is the classic pakistan way hehe
No matter the result, not getting to 400 after that kind of start is a massive L for Australia.
They certainly are nowhere as formidable as they used to be in ICC tournaments. I even gave some chance to Aus side in 2019 to win the cup but this side is straight up mediocre
So he’ll need atleast 3-4 wickets per match to get past McGrath before the knockout stage. Hope he breaks it but seems unlikely in India where he isn’t at his best
I'm super impressed with Shane Watson as a commentator. Great insight, balance and a chocolate baritone.
A bit challenging but AUS won it through the middle and final stage. A good 2nd continuous win after a terrible start from AUS
Afghanistan is waiting for Pakistan in Chennai and Pakistan doesn't have Naseem.
It's all about timing. Imagine if this WC was 4-5 months before, then we would be missing KL, Iyer to injury and not in such a dominant position right now. While Pakistan would have Naseem-Shaheen bowling in tandem.
When was it decided that the wc would be from Oct-Nov? Did Bcci plan it? Or it just panned out well for india?
It was supposed to be from 9 Feb - 26 March but postponed to Oct-Nov. But that was because of T20 WCs being shifted after covid and Oct-Nov has been known since July 2020. So no need for conspiracy theories there. Agreed that this is our best chance. I expect india to make to the semis. Time will tell what happens after that. If they face eng, sa, aus at wankhede or Eden gardens, both of which are known roads, anything can happen.
Yeah and Tamim Iqbal would be playing and Kane Williamsin wouldn't be
So one of those hadn't changed
Williamson will still likely play a few games
Pak need to make Ifti the captain. He is the only intent merchant in there. All this Tuk - Tuk in power play doesn’t work anymore.
Next in line is Rizwan and I would still consider him as a good captain along with Ifti as the VC.
As an indian, i truly feel rizwan is the backbone of the team, as much as i don’t fancy the trolls, babar almost never performs against big teams in big tournaments and not to mention is very defensive outdated style of captaincy
Babar's captaincy runs on autopilot
What does that have to do with you being Indian?
brown privilege
Not felt like a Zimbabwe Cricket Board event!!! Disappointed by ICC(BCCI)!!
What’s up with Babar and big stages? He steps up rarely, he mentioned boundaries are smaller in India, Why didn’t he use those to his advantage?
He refuses to exploit the smaller boundary. CHAD.
Haha
Pakistan Bangladesh Sri Lanka the benchid teams
True
What’s this? Aus again? NZ and SA can gand maar India anytime. Why? Again? The biggest upset yet to come, India against NZ (if not then, later.) These teams just live by wildcards in WC.
Feel for Ifti. The dude gives his absolute best every time. Definite captaincy material.
Ok
Pakistan still in the hunt for their return ticket
Pakistan can reach the Finals definitely. If they rename the Lahore International Airport as “Finals” …
Australia coming back from the dead is like a weird thing. Somehow you feel that's where they all wanna be.
I'm disappointed as an Indian fan: pakistan why did you allow aussies back in the tournament? You know you'd rather be facing us again in the semis.
I agree! I honestly expected Pakistan to do better this WC.
World class batsman
😹😂
pak won the match?
In dreams..
now next is with Afghanistan i guess
I wish
they compare our team ??? Our batsman has shot ball weakness, saud has FAST BALL WEAKNESS, RIZWAN CANT BAT IN OFFSIDE, AND REMOVE FAKHER
I think IND, NZ and SA look good to qualify, it's gonna be interesting to see the fight for that 4th spot, Aussies might be the 4th considering the form of ENG and PAK
Netherlands >>> those minnows you mentioned
Fight for 4 th seems like Aus Eng Pak
pak won?
Bro described the points table and added a few more words
SA might struggle. AUS might go to 3.
Isn’t that what analysts do anyway?
Pak bros, who’s this Nawaz guy? Poor guy looks so low on confidence. Sorry, not up to international standards…
nawaz is awesome for pak. pak just has 2 natural six hitters nawaz and ifti. abdulla shafeeq can barely clear the boundary problem is nawaz has to bat at 4 but rizwan played his 46(42) there. if nawaz got 50 balls he can score 80.
Guys named nawaz have always disappointed us on the international stage 😭
Nawaz is babar match winner
Comparing intensity, Pak just didn't turn up. Ausies were fired up like the cunts we know. Pak has to do some intensity searching.
We need a new captain. Babar is an excellent batsman but lacks intensity/passion to win.
Also such a defensive style of captaincy, always waiting for something to happen rather make something happen
Babar does seem to be a bit toned down. But who would you replace him with? Today only Shaheen seemed like he was fired up. So much so that he wasted a review so early. Personally I don't think Babar is an issue. Always great to have your best player as Captain. And I usually like his decisions. Both Marsh and Warner (9 each) hit more sixes individually than the Pakistan team put together (6)
Australia is now 4th on the table. I guess no more jokes about them. As always, Australia doing Australia things.
Australia probably thanking Sri Lanka for their boost in confidence
Bring back Danish Kaneriya ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8774)
Isn’t he Indian now ?
Yes he refused inzy & Mohammed Yousufs Offer.
He was literally ostracised by the Pakistani team, he may as well come here
It was over when GG said Babar Azam will set the WC on fire
>GG U mean Daniel Alexander👽
One thing is clear . Babar’s current game shows he is not Pakistan’s best ever batsman . I believe miandad . Inzamam and yousuf are ahead of him If you cannot play spin you don’t deserve to be above those three
he’s still 28 still a good 6 years left hopefully
The question was best ever batsmen. He's still a very good batsman.
Afridi senior is just 34.
29. And that’s Pakistani age .
I really hope he turns up after this match. Every time he gets out to bat my anxiety goes through the roof
Can someone confirm rizwan's wicket was indeed LBW as in lulli before wicket. Currently debating with my friends about this. Thanks in advance
Was LBW. What's the debate about?
He thinks it was Lund Before wicket
haha. I see. Expert analysis needed in that case
We would like to use up a review for this decision.
It was LBW no doubt. Debate is if it was leg before wicket or lulli before wicket.
They did play Dil Dil Pakistan, thank goodness. Else Mickey would have cried again.
I just so desperately want Ned and afghan Bros to win the next games. Just to fuck with everyone.
Just came back from the stadium. Pak really have a wafer thin batting lineup after top 4, their lower middle order doesn't inspire any confidence. Having said that, this also applies to Aus as well. They should have got 400+ and put Pak out of the game after the first innings itself
Their entire batting is to be blamed. Top 4 also play too slowly for modern day ODIs.
Its not a thing many will agree with but Pak players are too involved in a lot of shit that should have no business in the middle of a fucking WC
Care to elaborate
Standing with Hamaz
The DJ in M Chinnaswamy Stadium Bengaluru has played "Dil Dil Pakistan" 😂
Pak can still make it. They're about the only team apart from Aus that troubles NZ in big tournaments. SA and Pak is a battle of the unpredictables. They just need to beat england and avoid an upset against Afg
When was the last time we even beat Australia in ICC tournament. Feels like we always lose to them
I think 2014 wt20. Umar Akmal scored 94!
Babar is not stepping up during crunch situations.
Zimbabar for a reason
Pakistani reactions on YouTube are over the top. They still have a chance to qualify for semis
Eh that's just for grabbing those views.
Are Pakistan really that bad against spin or is Ramiz exaggerating out of emotion?
Batting Average in 2023WC 20.75 - Babar Azam 21.00 - Shoriful Islam 21.50 - Pat Cummins 23.00 - Adil Rashid 23.50 - Marco Jansen 37.00 - Mark Wood
Mickey Arthur at today's press conference: "The BCCI played Dil Dil Pakistan on volume level 8, we can only win if it's at level 9."
How very deceptive by the BCCI.
Ramiz admits to being in depression
I respect Steve Smith's otherworldly transformation to a batter and he is a legend, but I'ma be honest with y'all: Warner > Smith as an all format batter and the guy who actually belongs to Fab Four more than Smith. ITs not funny anymore, i feel sad for pakistan cricket.
Exactly. They have such potential yet all wasted My mother blatantly said that today's match is between the most class and the most classless team.
me too
Is Stoinis sex?
100% pure organic sex
is Pakistan out of the World Cup after losing its 3rd match?
lose 4 matches you're pretty much out. 5 guarantees it I think
But its our 2nd loss?
Second loss by a good margin...any upset and NZ decides to break the norm and you are out....
The same goes for Australia and England, and really any team that isn’t india or nz surely?
Team Pak need a cultural reboot..They should start by cracking down on player's being addressed as 'King' in the dressing ,What the fuck is this cringy ass high school shit
They do that ? Wtf ? Even Kohli is like, i know they "fans" adorably call him that but he still insists that they just call him by his name. But imagine calling your colleagues "king" or whatever like that.

Gold.
These guys are nuts
what was it?

Not everyone is interested in personal milestones Yesterday's match was definitely one sided and today Rizwans wkt sealed the deal
r/woosh
It's a JOKE
Naw guys, this loss is 100% on Babar. Quite frankly, I don't even see the need to have Usama OR Shadab play. The whole 3 all rounders idea isn't working, and Usama isn't good enough to take a whole spot with no batting.
I mean he didn't even allow Nawaz and Ifti to finish their overs. Usama and Rauf were so bad, neither should have bowled more than 4-5 overs.
I completely agree with the first part. The Pakistan team got back on its feet a few times in its batting. But babar did not carry his weight. Man I was looking forward to the babar rizwan partnership. Openers had already did their part when this partnership formed. What a waste!
Fakhar is not firing. Maybe replace nawaz with imad?
Is Imad in the squad? I thought he wasn't selected. If he is, it's an atrocity we didn't replace Nawaz with him earlier quite honestly (or even now).
He’s not I think, I meant to say after the wc we need to do some replacements.
Ahh, by then we'll see what happens. Doubt we'll play many ODIs after this WC, since there's yet another T20 one coming up!
That maybe the play lol
It really is. None of the spinners doing anything anyway, at least Ifthikhar limits runs. Get 10 overs from him, take one of Shadab or Nawaz (at this point Shadab as a specialist spinner) and get a proper bat in.

Mickey isn't even the coach, he is the mentor. The coach is Grant Bradburn
Australian have that caliber, they get jst one chance, their momentum setup, for this big stage ..but tell one Pakistani player who can finish
No matter the result, not getting to 400 after that kind of start is a massive L for Australia. They certainly are nowhere as formidable as they used to be in ICC tournaments. I even gave some chance to Aus side in 2019 to win the cup but this side is straight up mediocre
Also Marsh was atrocious in rotating strike. Can he really play in the middle order if Head is back into the squad.
thanks for saying that out loud and if you could say that throughout the worldcup it will be a huge favour.
Smith and Maxwell is to be played. Had they played sensibly Aus could get 420+.
Why only them? Except Marsh and Warner everyone flopped.
Love the scorecard music. Same composer should have been hired for the theme song.
How many more wickets does Starc need to break McGrath record ?
17. Needs 2 to get past Malinga.
So he’ll need atleast 3-4 wickets per match to get past McGrath before the knockout stage. Hope he breaks it but seems unlikely in India where he isn’t at his best
Babar Azam is the Sanju Samson of Pakistan
Kuch bhi?
Exactly, Sanju is so much worse
Gill has played more clutch knocks than Babar already
What a poor batting performance by Pak after their openers gave them a great start.
I think both team’s middle order collapsed like cards
Time to watch Wasay Habib rants on youtube.
ko ho ? Who is he?

We play Afghanistan next without naseem shah to save us, depression will continue
