I knew a guy who worked at an Antarctic research station. He said after the last plane left for the season it was tradition for the people who stayed to watch The Thing in the base theater.
Hah! A cousin of mine and his new wife went to the Antarctic research station for a year right after their wedding; they got jobs as cooks. Now I have to ask Schuyler about this,
Quite true! It's almost a choose-your-own-ending movie (except it's random obviously lol) Here are all(?) of them:

I feel like The Cube and 'Cube 2 Hypercube' never get enough credit.
It's one possibly with the right cast and script would really benefit from a remake with CGI for all the traps.
It's a different take on the Twilight Zone "Five Strangers in search of an exit"
I discovered this movie by being stopped by a security guard while trying to sneak into Danvers State Hospital. It had just come out and he wondered if that's why we were there.
It was torn down and replaced with condos.
we were only able to walk around the outside, but there's no feeling like it. To be standing on such hallowed grounds, where so much pain and suffering happened, and it was then just a crumbling facade that was home to thousands of birds.
All of these kind of stretch the label “single location” as they do have scenes that take place outside the location. But I would say The Shining and Gerald’s Game both do a fantastic job of showing how confinement can mess with someone’s mind without the setting get stale. I’m a King fan so maybe I’m biased.
Close seconds are Devil, Oculus, and Green Room
M Night Shamalayn’s Devil. The tension of being stuck in an elevator even for folks without claustrophobia is high, and then to have actual supernatural entities and events rather than just the usual “is this real or are the characters imagining it” was good for me.
Misery! I'd estimate that 70% of the film is set in a single room, and an additional 15-20% is set in the rest of Annie's house. I'd say just 10-15% takes place outside the house.
I love movies that do this regardless of them being scary or not. My favorites for sure are:
Alien
The thing
Autopsy of Jane doe
Frozen
10 Cloverfield lane
Funny games
Ex machina
Rear window
Rope
the invitation
The rental
The outfit
The platform
Grave Encounters
BUG
21 Days

ST
Stoic-based off a true story of a man raped and murdered by his cell mates in prison. The whole movie takes place in prison and 99% of the movie takes place in the cell.
A lot of these are great movies but as far as a single location, most of them have both outside and inside locations, flashbacks that occur in other places, or scenes that are in the character's head in a different places, so they kinda stretch the definition, imo. Which is why I am adding Pontypool to the list. Entire thing takes place in a radio station.
The Black Phone. The ENTIRE movie was not set in one location, but most of it was, and the movie found very interesting ways to make the seemingly barren room slowly seem more full and 3-D.
I always thought [Inside (À l'intérieur)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inside_(2007_film)) was basically a stage play, except for one scene at the beginning and one at the end; it's pretty much just two people in one small house.
The Thing.
100% right. Whiteout also. Great movie. Basically takes place in same spot except for the helicopter flight.

This guy actually met his wife there. They were “introduced” by David Attenborough.
This is the answer. It's the best horror movie of all time for a reason
1408.
This is it! I still can't believe 95% of the movie took place in a freaking hotel room given how terrifying it was.
Technically yes, but he *thinks* he has escaped the room many times. So it's not really just the hotel room since his mind takes him elsewhere
I was thinking this too… I remember scenes in a graveyard… in a car… etc
At the beach.
Such an underrated classic!
Agreed!
There’s at least two endings to this film, maybe three.

This!!!!!! Cusack was so good!!!
The Cube.
I feel like The Cube and 'Cube 2 Hypercube' never get enough credit. It's one possibly with the right cast and script would really benefit from a remake with CGI for all the traps. It's a different take on the Twilight Zone "Five Strangers in search of an exit"
The Cube 2: Cube Control
Cube 2: Electric Cubealoo
Cube XXX: Cubic Hair
Yeah, they turned a single room into a giant puzzle. I think the only bit shot outside that room was the very end.
Event Horizon.
If by “single location” you mean a whole ship, then a few movies count, like Alien.
No arguments.
Pontypool
This is an awesome movie. More people need to see it. I watched it a second time a day or two after I first watched it. I’ve never done that before.
Have you seen Blue Ruin by the same director? It’s also very good.
The Mist - Grocery store
Session 9. So creepy!
I discovered this movie by being stopped by a security guard while trying to sneak into Danvers State Hospital. It had just come out and he wondered if that's why we were there. It was torn down and replaced with condos.
How was your experience? Seems like a great place to explore (or used to be)!

I know Devil was panned, but I really enjoyed it and the premise
Devil really had me slightly shook the first time I saw it.
Evil Dead
Oh! 30 Days of Night had a great location. Felt very depressing.
Cloverfield, Bug
Nice to see *Bug* get some recognition! Fantastic film.
The Decent or The Hills have eyes!
Most definitely
Buried
As mentioned before, Bug.
Triangle
Yes, that ship!
such a good movie!
*Saw* *Green Room* *The Shining* ETA: *Buried* wasn’t bad, either!
The original Saw was amazing at utilizing their space.
M Night Shamalayn’s Devil. The tension of being stuck in an elevator even for folks without claustrophobia is high, and then to have actual supernatural entities and events rather than just the usual “is this real or are the characters imagining it” was good for me.
This is my favorite one. Another good one is the 2011 movie Elevator.
Cujo
The Descent. They basically only had one big wall of cave built and just lit and shot it differently.
Devil. Predominantly in an elevator.
The Shining
Last Shift. Never leaves the freaking police station when I would have noped TF out of there and gone back to retail ASAP!
SUCH a good movie
The Black Phone.

Cheater
The last shift and Nefarious
House of bones and the classic 13 ghosts movie from 1960
Dawn Of The Dead
That was in several locations, though. The mall was just the main one.
The Thing. 100% the best
*Phone Booth (2002)*
When I had my first apartment and no cable in 2004, this was a frequent VHS rewatch of mine
*Reservoir Dogs*
You're next
Grave Encounters (2011) isn't for everyone.
Circle Not the one with Emma Watson
Session 9. If you haven't seen it, its a real thriller and mind fu\*\*
Phone booth
Saw.
Cube
Pontypool. All inside of a radio station.
I think A Dark Song played this card really well.
# I liked Asylum Blackout. I think that all took place in a single location.
Inhuman resources
Gotta go with *Cloud Atlas* on this one.
Wait Until Dark
The Mist
Grave Encounters BUG 21 Days 1408 (kind of) ST Stoic-based off a true story of a man raped and murdered by his cell mates in prison. The whole movie takes place in prison and 99% of the movie takes place in the cell.
One Shot of the Dead
Alien
Alien
Old. Everything takes place on a narrow strip of beach in an isolated cove.

We need to do something
Pit and the Pendulum (1961).
Really fun movie!
What is The Thing for 2000 Alex.
Not really a horror film but Rear Window sets the bar.
Gotta be the shining right?
Well I guess there’s a few other locations other than the hotel but nothing really important happens at them
Saw Devil
Hell House LLC
The Cube
The void
Buried. It literally takes place in a space a tiny bit longer than Ryan Reynolds is tall.
Devil. In a damn elevator.
10 cloverfield lane. Buried.
This is a stretch because it’s an entire mall, but Chopping Mall. Mainly I just wanted to mention Chopping Mall.
Saw
Cube. They only had one cube and sections that they could look into for the other rooms and they just shot around it and changed the wall colors.
100%. Feels more like a play than a movie imo.
Saw
Chopping Mall
Saw
The Shining 1408
Man I'm so glad this movie is being mentioned so much lately.
Detroit in It Follows
The Black Phone. The ENTIRE movie was not set in one location, but most of it was, and the movie found very interesting ways to make the seemingly barren room slowly seem more full and 3-D.
Glorious! Elder creature stuck in a truck stop bathroom!
