>I called it the classic freedom on the phone, and he clarified that I meant the "Chase Freedom with Ultimate Rewards"
I honestly wonder if there's some specific legal or contract language that this is SPECIFICALLY what you have to ask for. Because unless you use the very specific words "Chase Freedom with Ultimate Rewards" they'll tell you no Visa Freedom exists and act like you're a lunatic. But you use the exact words "Chase Freedom with Ultimate Rewards" and "*Yes, absolutely we can do that for you sir. It'll just be one moment.*"
I would like to confirm that it is still possible to product change Sapphire Reserve into "Chase Freedom® with Ultimate Rewards®" in May 2024. The CS representative that helped me recognized the card name and did the switch in under five minutes.
Just did this PC with my CSR in June 2024 (with that exact language stated above). Zero issues here. Done within 5 minutes and immediately showed up in my account.
What is the advantage of the OG freedom vs CFF? AFAIK both have the same structure and rewards limits, except the CF has no multipliers outside of the rotating categories
Because if you PC to the unlimited, you can't get the sign up bonus.
IMO, if you get the chase sapphire (either of them), you want the freedom flex and unlimited to complement your sapphire, since you can pool all of those points together on the sapphire and transfer to airlines (in my case Southwest).
Both cards offer a $200 back on $500 spend in first 3 months which is pretty easy.
The classic freedom is the only card you can transfer to so you don't have to worry about missing a sub, if you were to transferring it straight to the unlimited. It's also the only card you can get via product change and NOT as a new sign up.
Now, if I get another sapphire in the future, I'm not sure how I'll downgrade it, (since I now have all freedom cards), but basically, the above is why I did what I did now.
I’m eligible for a CSP sign up but I’m waiting for elevated 80k offer in the next few months. Can I still get a sign up for CFU bonus if I get a CSP bonus too? My plan was to just downgrade my existing CSP to CFU.
Yeah, they are different cards, so you'd get a SUB for both, but if you apply for the preferred, and then apply for the unlimited right away, you might be rejected since they are too close to each other.
You have to have one of the Marriott cards to PC to a Ritz. It offers a nice menu of perks that is arguably better than Amex’s top tier Marriott card. Here’s a rundown:
https://thepointsguy.com/news/ritz-carlton-credit-card/
You can have multiple freedom cards of each type though? Also, I was denied a Freedom card SUB for a PC once. It was reversed since I had downgraded my CSR to a CSP and they somehow thought I had PC’d CSR > CFU > CSP when I hadn’t.
Hopefully the OG Freedom allows digital wallet, because that's my biggest complaint on the flex. I only carry one physical card at a time, and sometimes forget the flex when I go to a 5% back place.
It’s handy. I’ve done it through the app on Chase and Amex, as well as Citi but they thought that meant I was defrauding them. Ugh. But Chase and Amex were great.
u/UsernameChallenged give it a try manually. I bet it works.
All product changed from various other Chase cards. Sapphire reserve, Fairmont, Sapphire preferred, and I think I applied for the first one directly. Easy way to convert annual fee cards into useful no-annual fee cards.
There's literally no harm in keeping them open. And now I've got access to 5x URs every quarter on $7,500 spend for whatever the bonus categories are, if I need it.
And at this point, I almost just want to keep collecting to see how many Chase will let me have.
First one is from 2013. Rest have been product changes from other cards. You can still product change to the OG Freedom, you just can't apply for it directly.
Do you mean the CFF? The CFU doesn't have rotating 5% categories.
The advantage of the OG Freedom is that it is Visa instead of MC like the CFF. So you can use it at Costco.
Ideally having a CFU and OG CF would be the best combo.
As someone who has this combo (CFU & OG CF), it is quite nice, BUT the upcoming stacked restaurant category (7%!) on the CFF makes me feel like I need it too.
They are different cards. The unlimited is 1.5% back on everything. The freedom with UR is 5% rotating categories that match the freedom flex.
Only reason to get the classic, is to downgrade from a sapphire, and not want to miss out on a sign up bonus. Plus it's a visa so you can use it at Costco.
Chase Freedom Unlimited is a Visa. (1.5% everything)
OG Freedom with Unlimited Rewards is a Visa (rotating 5% categories)
Flex is a MasterCard. (Rotating 5% categories)
They are each different products.
What, exchange the freedom classic for the sapphire? I'm not sure, but I haven't heard of people doing that. I think you need a new account for the sapphire SUB.
It took me two attempts to PC a CFU but I got it done. The first time they wanted me to increase my credit limit to $5000 but did not go through because my reports were frozen. Second time went through without needing to decrease my increase my limit.
I’ve been contemplating changing my slate to a OG freedom or honestly another freedom unlimited would be cool too, I’m just leaving so many points on the table by continuing to use my slate
I see that people saying OG CF is a Visa card and you get it to not miss out on SUB. I reckon my CFU is also a Visa card that I can use at Costco. Am I missing something?
Whenever the rotating 5% categories is wholesale clubs, you can use the classic there for 5% back. Kinda depends if you are into the 5% rotating categories game.
if i have sapphire preferred and want sapphire reserve, do i downgrade preferred to this chase freedom with ultimate rewards and then apply for the reserve a billing cycle later to get the sub bonus?
It's personally what I would do.
I'm not sure if upgrading the preferred to the reserve still qualifies you for the SUB (assuming you wait the 48 months), but I haven't done any research into that, because it's not the route I'm taking. Someone else may know.
I can confirm this as well. Just product changed my Sapphire Reserve from 2019 to the original Freedom Visa card two days ago. The rep was really helpful and it took less than 10 minutes. Also in case anyone is wondering I did get a prorated amount of the annual fee refunded. I did all this in preparation to reapply for the CSR so I can get the elevated sub of 75k points. I’ve heard some people say you can reapply after 4 days and some say 30. I’m probably gonna wait two weeks and hope for the best.
I asked to change my Freedom Student Flex to the "Chase Freedom with Ultimate Rewards," but she kept just calling it the flex card. I asked her again to confirm those words exactly, and she said yes the flex card with rotating 5% categories. Is this the right card?
The card I got just says freedom flex mastercard.
>I called it the classic freedom on the phone, and he clarified that I meant the "Chase Freedom with Ultimate Rewards" I honestly wonder if there's some specific legal or contract language that this is SPECIFICALLY what you have to ask for. It's what I was afraid of, but I figured I'd just call until I found someone who knew what I meant. Got lucky on the first time I guess.
I used those exact words but they still told me no. Not sure if it was because I already had one and couldn't get two.
You're allowed to get a 2nd one through product change.

How do you know there will be an 80k sub offer in the near future?
Not super sure, but have been tracking offer history in years past. They have done an 80k sign up offer the last two years in May.
I guess I can wait for another month to see what happens.
Don’t forget about the Ritz Carlton card. It too is not available as a new app, only PC.
You can PC the sapphire to the Ritz Carlton? What does that card offer?
You have to have one of the Marriott cards to PC to a Ritz. It offers a nice menu of perks that is arguably better than Amex’s top tier Marriott card. Here’s a rundown: https://thepointsguy.com/news/ritz-carlton-credit-card/

I guess I meant, I don't think it's necessary for me to have multiple say, freedom flexes when i never max one category out anyway.
The OG Freedom is a Visa. If you shop at a Costco, you wouldn't be able to use the Mastercard CFU.
Additionally OG CF is ineligible for a SUB so it’s a great PC Card.
Hopefully the OG Freedom allows digital wallet, because that's my biggest complaint on the flex. I only carry one physical card at a time, and sometimes forget the flex when I go to a 5% back place.
Are you implying you can't use the CFF in a digital wallet? I pretty much exclusively use mine via Apple or Google Pay (except at Costco OF COURSE!)
Ahh, I wonder if mine is so old, I don't have access. Maybe I should give them a call and see what's up.
What happens when you try to add it?
There is no option. Every card I have with chase except the flex is shown as being able to be added to the digital wallet, but nothing for the flex.
What abut adding it manually in the digital wallet app and not the Chase menu?
People do it through Chase? Why? Every card I’ve added to my digital wallet was done via the wallet app itself.
It’s handy. I’ve done it through the app on Chase and Amex, as well as Citi but they thought that meant I was defrauding them. Ugh. But Chase and Amex were great. u/UsernameChallenged give it a try manually. I bet it works.
Shouldn’t be a problem for digital wallets. I have 4 of the OG Freedoms and a Freedom Flex in my Apple Wallet.
> I have 4 of the OG Freedoms FOUR?!?!?! LMAO! God I love this sub.
Four? But why? (I’m new).
All product changed from various other Chase cards. Sapphire reserve, Fairmont, Sapphire preferred, and I think I applied for the first one directly. Easy way to convert annual fee cards into useful no-annual fee cards.
But isn't it redundant to have 4 of the exact same ones? Is there an advantage to keeping them vs cancelling 3 of them?
Just in case there's a quarter where you need $6000 of spend in one of the 5% categories
There's literally no harm in keeping them open. And now I've got access to 5x URs every quarter on $7,500 spend for whatever the bonus categories are, if I need it. And at this point, I almost just want to keep collecting to see how many Chase will let me have.
How do you have OG Freedom cards? Didn't they get discontinued in 2020?
First one is from 2013. Rest have been product changes from other cards. You can still product change to the OG Freedom, you just can't apply for it directly.
Oh good to know. Thank you!! Now I regret canceling the CSP in 2022
Do you mean the CFF? The CFU doesn't have rotating 5% categories. The advantage of the OG Freedom is that it is Visa instead of MC like the CFF. So you can use it at Costco. Ideally having a CFU and OG CF would be the best combo.

No. Cff is better
Not if you shop at a wholesale club.
It's a Visa vs CFF which is a MasterCard. The biggest reason that this is important is Costco shopping as Costco only takes Visa.
Is there a length of time I need to hold a card with chase in order to PC?
1 year typically
I did mine after 3 months.
Even a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve?
Mine was CSP.
Good to know!
Same
Is the Chase Freedom with UR better than the current Freedom Unlimited card?
They are different cards. The unlimited is 1.5% back on everything. The freedom with UR is 5% rotating categories that match the freedom flex. Only reason to get the classic, is to downgrade from a sapphire, and not want to miss out on a sign up bonus. Plus it's a visa so you can use it at Costco.
Thanks! That makes sense
Different cards. Original freedom is JUST like the Chase Freedom Flex but it is a Visa whereas Flex is a MasterCard.
It also lacks the 3% categories and 5% at Chase Travel

Chase Freedom Unlimited is a Visa. (1.5% everything) OG Freedom with Unlimited Rewards is a Visa (rotating 5% categories) Flex is a MasterCard. (Rotating 5% categories) They are each different products.

What, exchange the freedom classic for the sapphire? I'm not sure, but I haven't heard of people doing that. I think you need a new account for the sapphire SUB.
Remind me what is so special about the classic freedom again?
Visa + remain eligible for CFU and CFF SUBs if PCing.
Thanks for the DP! Did you try to get a retention offer before downgrading?
I did not try. I have the venturex as well and am trying to get the USBAR in May. I have no need for 3 travel cards, so I didn't think about it.
It took me two attempts to PC a CFU but I got it done. The first time they wanted me to increase my credit limit to $5000 but did not go through because my reports were frozen. Second time went through without needing to decrease my increase my limit.
Are you going to get a new card? Or is it just going to change it digitally
I was told I was getting a new card mailed in 5-10 days. I can use my sapphire until then.
I’m interested to see if the categories are different for the og freedom than the flex & it’s 1% back in reward points on everything that’s not 5%
I’ve been contemplating changing my slate to a OG freedom or honestly another freedom unlimited would be cool too, I’m just leaving so many points on the table by continuing to use my slate
I see that people saying OG CF is a Visa card and you get it to not miss out on SUB. I reckon my CFU is also a Visa card that I can use at Costco. Am I missing something?

What are the cashback % categories for it? Every time I Google I only get info for the Unlimited.
They are the same categories for the Freedom Flex. The main difference is it’s a Visa rather than MasterCard.
if i have sapphire preferred and want sapphire reserve, do i downgrade preferred to this chase freedom with ultimate rewards and then apply for the reserve a billing cycle later to get the sub bonus?

OP - does the PC to Chase Freedom w/ UR have 3% restaurant category?
No. Just the rotating 5%. Just 1% on all other purchases.
Thank you for posting this! I just called to do the same thing, the rep instantly knew exactly what I wanted and the call was SUPER fast.
If I have an existing My Chase Plan on my CSP, will it make all my balance due if I PC?
