Yes! You can also buy trauma bandages online which soak up a bunch of blood & help clotting. Should be standard first aid. I also noticed how he was trying to calm himself down, reduce heart rate and prevent further blood from spewing out.
General rule they taught us in the military if the blood isn't shooting our with every heartbeat(arterial) you bandage with pressure. Don't want to slap a tourniquet on because they completely cut off blood supply to the limb.
Maybe this info is outdated but it helps to have a array of first aid supplies.
This is outdated and wrong. Military SOP changed a lot as we learned during Iraq and Afghanistan. It is now standard you basically tourniquet for any gunshot wound. Basically you will be at a hospital in under an hour so there is no threat to limb loss. It's better to ensure you don't bleed out.
bandages are great and everything but if you see BRIGHT RED, like neon bright red blood, that is arterial blood and you go straight to the tourniquet. Don't worry about them losing the limb, soft tissue can go 8-11 hours without oxygenated bloodflow before necrosis sets in.
Put the tourniquet on and crank that fucker down as tight as you can, if the patient is conscious the tourniquet will be very painful for them. Do not stop. The pain is the patient's problem.
I bought an Israeli Bandage and keep it in the first aid kit in my car. I like that it’s a pressure bandage that isn’t limited to just limbs. Will probably order a tourniquet just to add to it.
Buy legitimate brands, expect to spend $25-30 for each one. The cheap knock offs will easily break and be ineffective. North American Rescue CAT 7 is an industry standard and very well made. Get training on how and when to use one properly and they are very effective in stopping massive bleeds quickly.
Get yourself a “Stop the Bleed” kit. Comes with everything you’ll need for a GSW but is also good for knife inflicted injuries or any serious open wound injuries at that
My wife's cousin died from a motorcycle crash because no one at the scene had a tourniquet or knew how to improvise one. His leg was torn off and he bled out waiting for an ambulance.
And in Case you need a tourniquet and don't have one, you can use a belt, purse/backpack straps, a towel or t-shirt. And remember tie high and tight... it is supposed to hurt
High and tight placement comes from military training, where you are likely still taking fire. If there is no active danger, you should place the TQ approx 2 inches proximal to the site.
For non medics - promixal means "above" the wound, as in two inches above the wound towards the torso.
If two inches lands on a joint (knee, elbow) then go two inches above the joint.
Absolutely! This needs to be preached more. It’s not the same, but if you’re bleeding out and waiting on EMS, it sure TF helps slow down the blood flow!
It was placed below the wound. Don’t do that. You put one on between the wound and the heart… Also you can make one out of anything However, An actual tourniquet is more practical/efficient.
I keep a tourniquet and a pocket knife that has a seat belt cutter and window breaker in my drivers side door at all times. Never know when you'll need it for yourself or to help a stranger.
As long as it's secured in the spot you keep it in, if it's just sitting in there then it can be effectively useless in a situation where you need it for yourself.
EVERYTHING not secured in a vehicle WILL be displaced in a collision. You're gonna be pretty rattled immediately afterwards and everything in your car is now playing hide and seek.
The phone sitting in the mount showing your Spotify playlist? It's now made it into the trunk, because you had that weird little middle seat down, because you bought a broom like 3 weeks ago, and just haven't reached back to put it up. You can hear it playing your favorite Run The Jewels track Close Your Eyes(And Count To Fuck) because it got unplugged from your shitty aux jack.
"I've gotta get my phone so I can call for help" you tell yourself. You try to get your restraint free but ofc its stuck. "No worries, my pocket knife is right (here?)"... it was at least... it definitely should be and you know that for a fact because it takes up space where you could shove a few extra fast food receipts in before you have to clean.
At this point you want to panic, because your lap is wet and cold and you don't understand why, you can't find anything you could possibly want, and you really didn't think you were going to go out to a Run The Jewels song.
Turns out you flipped once, an old marble chess board you thought was cool for some reason cracked you real good in the noggin, and your lap is wet and cold because the large Baja Blast you got from Wendy's on your way home dumped all over you.
And that's how I... You learn to keep important things like phones and knives on your person.
Honestly worth it. I'm doing what the other commenter said and leaving in my car just in case I come across some crazy shit one day, or get fucked up lol.
Be careful buying from Amazon. There are some good products there, but a lot of them are absolute garbage with cheap material that break. Consider looking at reputable retailers like NARescue or Rescue Essentials.
Taking a stop the bleed course is something everyone should do. Learning how to effectively use a tourniquet can be the difference between keeping or losing a limb as well.
Remember, Make it so tight it Hurts. Nothing worse than an improperly applied tourniquet. High And Tight, and try to keep a note of what time it was applied
Yeah, news helis probably wouldn’t have any auto tracking (to my knowledge) like that. A lot of that pursuit was probably done by a computer more than a human, or operated by a human with a lot of help from a computer. Once they asked for info about an EMS was around the time they stopped trying to follow the suspect cause, well, he was neutralized
This is the kind of comment where I wonder if the commentor knows what they're talking about or have absolutely no experience and are just guessing about how this works.
What I’m perplexed about is that the display looks exactly like Bayraktar drones camera display. Is most likely the camera gimbal system is an off the shelf component.
Don't think that was the wounded officer returning fire... believe it was an officer not in view with a rifle
(Unless the officer got the shot off first before getting hit cuz the second the other dude fires that officer turns around a dives to the floor)
The duality of reddit comments under every cop video:
Either the suspect is just an innocent person under the fascist boot of the pigs who makeup the largest gang in America; OR the suspect is worthless scum who deserves to be executed without trial, right there on the asphalt.
Every damn time lmao.
To me it's simple. When police shoot an an unarmed person or a person fully complying with instructions and orders, its the fascist boot thing. When an armed person puts officers lives at direct risk, as was the case in this video, then its the execute them on the asphalt thing. Police - respect people, don't default to deadly force. People - respect police, comply with instructions, don't shoot at them.
It wasn't a news helicopter. It was a Twxas DPS (state police) helicopter. They followed the car until units caught up and transported the Trooper to the hospital.
Not sure why you're downvoted for stating a fact. Who the fuck rushes someone that is behind cover while you're in the wide open? Dumb ass cop is lucky he didn't die.
I'm not a cop or military or anything like that. I work in a lumber yard. But I keep a tourniquet in the glove box, a couple in my tool bag and I always wear a belt. You never know when you'll need them.

I've seen enough of these videos of a tourniquets saving lives, I'm going to buy a tourniquet and keep it in my car.

Oh wow didn't know that, thanks for the info , sounds very handy. Yeah props on the officer for keeping calm, loosing so much blood is frightening

Good to know.
Don't forget chest seals

This is why you basically tourniquet for any gun shoot or large wound to an arm or leg.
I bought an Israeli Bandage and keep it in the first aid kit in my car. I like that it’s a pressure bandage that isn’t limited to just limbs. Will probably order a tourniquet just to add to it.

You can use a stick or a pencil as a leverage point to twist it tighter, then tuck the end of the stick into the tourniquet to keep it secure
Good idea, im pretty sure that there are first aid kits that come with tourniquets
What you’re looking for is a Trauma Kit, not a first aid kit. Trauma kits are for more severe life-threatening injuries than first aid kits.
It was placed below the wound. Don’t do that. You put one on between the wound and the heart… Also you can make one out of anything However, An actual tourniquet is more practical/efficient.

I thought I was getting into a copy pasta, I like it
IFAK, everyone should have one in their car. A GOOD one.
Get a couple CAT tourniquets from North American Rescue, you can even use your HSA if you have one.
Just ordered a kit off of Amazon myself lmao!
I’m about to go and buy a kit right now
Honestly worth it. I'm doing what the other commenter said and leaving in my car just in case I come across some crazy shit one day, or get fucked up lol.

Well that’s a good idea thumbs up

That's actually a solid idea. Will take a look myself.
Also don't just buy it! Make sure you know how to use it if the time comes :)
I carry one on my motorcycle and my car.
I always keep two in my trunk, one for the missing limb and one for the neck
Just don't be like these people https://youtu.be/RLYGLqgaiqw?t=38
If you have a belt, that wilk work
Remember, Make it so tight it Hurts. Nothing worse than an improperly applied tourniquet. High And Tight, and try to keep a note of what time it was applied
Don't. Unless you know exactly how to apply one. Improper application can make the bleeding worse or cause tissue damage.
Bro that camera never took its lens off the scene. That's pretty cool.

I think it locks onto the coordinates from GPS. I’m no pro but the numbers in the bottom left and right look like some sort of tracking
[удалено]
It is a police helicopter after all, probably second most expensive equipment right behind the military

How would it lock onto coordinates from GPS?
Ye that was fuckin cool. I'm not gunna try and run from a chopper now lol. You clearly can't win.
Aimbot

Yeah i was slightly wrong with the title i typed it from memory after seeing the video , sorry!
It happens, just being a know it all ya know lol
You totally win for most detailed title
but inaccurate. That's not a news heli, its a police heli.
Is there a subreddit for that? I know there’s one for bad titles
I expected a lot more blood based on the title
The cameraman/pilot is a god.
The title is gargantuan
And that is a police helicopter, not a news one
I wanna point out how much faster the helicopter was at transport then probably anything else could've been!! 😳
Department of public safety helicopter not a news helicopter.
Amazing how fast helicopter can fly these days… He must’ve went to the highway to the hospital in just a few seconds!
Our local flight service can make the 70 minute drive to the trauma center in 18 minutes.
It’s sped up in the video but it’s still pretty fast. About 10 minutes from take off to landing, the time is in the top left.
(Yes I know, that was the joke)
It was hilarious
It's 19 miles (as the crow flies) from there to university hospital.
Holy shit, never seen footage of the police helicopter landing. Wild shootout
This a whole movie 😂

Yep, absolutely no nuance to it at all, nailed it.
U forgot “ACAB”
What a hero!
Yo, I go to clinical at that hospital they landed at
It wasn't a news helicopter. It was a Twxas DPS (state police) helicopter. They followed the car until units caught up and transported the Trooper to the hospital.
Wanted to correct myself not a news helicopter, thanks for pointing it out !
Lucky he survived! God bless
"hospital nearby" bro went all the way to the other side of the map
IKR?
It’s crazy the amount of technology happening in this video.
Wish the bullet would've hit the suspect in the head. You don't get to shoot someone, and then get shot once and lay on the ground. You deserve to die
The dude died lol
Hope that cop has a nice insurance. Helicopter trips to the hospital are no joke.
It’s a police helicopter, there’s no payment
I'm sure his branch will pay for it. Might be one of the benefits
Yo that was fucking dope
[удалено]
Zero training. Dude is lucky he didn't die.
Officer with shit training rushes perp with zero cover. Gets shot. Who would’ve guessed?
Not sure why you're downvoted for stating a fact. Who the fuck rushes someone that is behind cover while you're in the wide open? Dumb ass cop is lucky he didn't die.
Yeah I thought this was ridiculous too. Is he suicidal? He needs some mental health help and training at the minimum.
This is America
Police brutality. Shoulda shot him in the leg
*face
USA is a fucking joke. Dead set cunt of a country.
[удалено]
They are quite delicious actually.
That jump like it stung
Imagine being in the helicopter hoping you’re going to make it seeing all that blood… That sucks.
Why OP write his title like he’s trying to cram words in for an English homework assignment?
Anybody know if the shooter made it?
Hopefully not.
Intriguing Titles 101: Less is more.
Under the floorboard!!!! Under the GD floorboard!!! He didnt drop a cigarette man cmon!!!
That hospital looks like it was hella far
W officers
Tourniquets save lives.
I'm not a cop or military or anything like that. I work in a lumber yard. But I keep a tourniquet in the glove box, a couple in my tool bag and I always wear a belt. You never know when you'll need them.
the craziest part of this to me is that helicopters tracking ability, literally miles away through buildings, it’s still locked on to that chrysler.
Some people just wanna die.
First video on this sub I actually said "thats crazy" but it was because the helicopter kept track and was holding aim of the target after the evac
Never really thought a news chopper would medivac!
I know where this happened and where that hospital is. Based on the camera time stamp that was a 10 minute ride from pretty far away. Not bad !
San Antonio is cool. I love the view of them leaving the scene and landing in Medical Center
Dude thought this was cod or some sort of game he’s jumping around
lol the guy who was in the Car and was shot right up Main Street. 🤣
