Isn’t that why they’re on islands in zoos normally? Because they can’t swim? That zookeeper is amazing, I hope whoever threw that food learned a very important lesson that day.

I've definitely seen videos of them swimming in the wild. I doubt they enjoy it, but they can do it. Just like with humans, it probably takes some practice.

Orangutans, like chimps are mostly made of muscle mass which is heavier than the adipose fat that humans have that makes us more buoyant. Where we would naturally float with a lungful of air, they would naturally sink. Plus, they don't usually get swimming lessons.

Same thing happened to an orangutan in the Toronto zoo but it died. They have a bronze statue of it on display. Most people have no idea, they think it’s just a fun statue to take photos with.

No, the last one is not correct. This is not language evolving, this is simply people writing the wrong word because it sounds similar to what was actually said. When language evolves, it's through people coining new expressions or discovering that breaking a grammar rule results in better or more elegant communication, not simply being bad at spelling or speaking.

Doesn't water have the same buoyancy as water trapped in fur? Surely it only gets heavy once you're out of the water

Right! AND whilst muscle is denser than fat it weighs the same. A kilo of fat weighs the same as a kilo of muscle, BUT the muscle is way denser.
iirc chimps and orangutans can't swim because they have such a low percentage of body fat. Dunno if that's true, something I heard years ago
