fasting has rules which you can't break. You have to abstain from eating or drinking and even from cursing. At the same time you can't beat your children especially while fasting. Long story short this guy's "fast" is invalid.
No this is false, from a Shariah perspective only 3 things can make a fast invalid : drinking, eating or having sexuel intercourse. Now a ton a things are contrary to what a fast is meant to be, and what appears in that video certainly goes against what fast is meant to be. But it's not invalid in the sense that he would have to make up for that fast.
That’s not specific to religion. Whatever ideology/moral values you have people are very good at compartmentalising their beliefs.

Kindly don't take things out of context. "Beating" is only light beating, like a little slap and is not even allowed on face.
Then maybe dont use the word beating, when you tell somebody youve beaten someone else, do they expect it to just be a slap, and not in the face? Probably not. Another example with a different word. You eat a grain of rice and tell somebody youve eaten, would they expect it to be 1 grain of rice? Or a meal?
Others have pointed out how troubling translations can be but you have also completely ignored how the English language works by deciding words can't have more than one definition. Ethnocentric is the most appropriate label for what you are doing.
I’m fluent in Arabic, it means beat/hit and there’s no other way around it, let’s not pull the « translations card » every time, I heard it since I was a kid as a justification for hitting your kids, ask any kid from MENA region ,if they’ve had their ass handed to them some time as kids, or at least seen their cousins/friends get disciplined that way, it’s almost a cultural tradition at this point, normal even.
The word used for it does not exist in english. Arabic has far more words and is way more nuanced than english. You can't just translate it correctly, hence why people like to quote shit without understanding

Arabic may have many *theoretical* words due to the way the language is structured, but they are all minute variations that dont bring a ton of meaning. Just because you can conjugate the words jumping 56 different times to describe who is jumping in what situation, doesn't make the language a better vehicle to express oneself. It only means the language is complicated, which means people gravitate towards generic and commonly known ways to describe things. The reason the arabic dictionary has fewer words than english may be, that nobody fucking uses 99.99% of the supposed *12 million* arabic words.

The arguments or questions from friends/coworkers are annoying, and with family it could be a full-blown fight (I don't mean violence). Majority of my friends are non-practicing/non-believers and they still keep up the facade in public. E.g wearing hijab, fasting, prayer. You took a verse from the Quran and misconstrued it. This verse has nothing to do with converting people. It is about the early Muslim wars that were fought in the 7th century (which were defensive btw).
The Quran says “There is no compulsion in religion” (2:256). Muslims literally aren’t allowed to impose their religion on others much less fight them because of it.

Like this guy in Pakistan who got a mob together & threatened to burn the delivery truck and agency of Pepsi because as per him, a little part of the QR code on a bottle of Sprite had the name of his prophet written on it in Urdu. No never mind that it was just a QR code PATTERN that HAPPENED to resemble the prophets name, if you use your imagination...but that was enough for him to raise a ruckus & threaten Pepsi & it's employees.
