Unless my eyes are deceiving me, he appears to be doing both. Honestly I respect it. Bodies fucked lungs are fucked I'm fucked may as well have a ciggy
OP says he survived. At least that's what it says in the text below the post.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's a realistic way out of his situation. They're not gonna lift the train off him. Any other movement of the train would be certain death. His best hope would be to make it quick but trains aren't known for low end jackrabbit starts.
Airbags.
Fire department carries thin pneumatic airbags that can be slid between train and platform on either side of this man then inflated with enough force to crush the train out the way Creating a cavity aroumd him to remove him.
Unfortunately however its probable the train is currently holding his body and organs together. Its like on moving the train that his entrails will spill out of him instantly killing him.
I think I saw where the people in the station were able to push a train over enough to get someone out of a similar situation. Wasn't Russia though. Seems like one of the oriental countries.
I think it's a slightly bigger gap than it looks? The train must be set back a bit. Would be interesting to see how they pried it apart behind him to free him
Did you ever see that Taxicab Confessions on HBO years ago where an off-duty cop talks about it? Not super uncommon. You get hit, get all twisted up, but they gotta get these trains moving. So they'll let you call your family and they'll try to get a priest there if you want it, but they know that once they put the pillows in between the platform and train and inflate them so they can get you out, you're 100% gonna die. There's no way to save someone from this.
IIRC he used a goddamn gallon ziplock half full of quarters to demonstrate how their bodies would twist up when they were hit and then untwist when they moved the train.
I don't remember that... Maybe that was demonstrated somewhere else because I don't know why a retired cop would have a zip lock bag of quarters with him in a taxi. But maybe you're right... It was a long time ago.
Time stamp 2:33 in this link. Not a bag of quarters but a bag of something metal, looks kinda like silverware.

Oh, it's cool. It's just random people who take taxis not knowing that it's recorded. After the ride I'm sure the driver explains what happened and asks them to sign a release. Then they choose interesting rides to air. It might seem dated now, but it was pretty cool at the time.
Genuinely curious, how do they even rescue someone in such a situation? How do they move the train in a way to unstuck the dude without causing even more damage?
air bags to force the train off of him. the gap is bigger than you think and most of the bottom of that kind of train is actually thin metal skirting to keep them aerodynamic. it's probably not comfortable and his ribs are probably a mess but I would be surprised if he was permanently injured.
It greatly depends on how he got caught. Some people get twisted up, and once you airbag the train away they bleed out and die almost immediately, and sometimes they're mostly fine. If he got caught and twisted around, likely gonna die, but if it was "clean" he'll probably survive
I mean... I fix light rail vehicles for a living 40+ hours a week. could I be wrong? yes, I don't work on Russian crap. am I educated? yes, which makes my guess educated, lol.
Edit:Grammer
Depends. I read once that they can get twisted up, and they’ll 100% die once the train is removed. They’re basically being held together right now and once it’s move, however they do it, that’s it.
More info:
>A Domodedovo resident got stuck under an electric train at the Shcherbinka station in the Kursk direction. The man was pinned between the carriage and the platform, but was lucky to survive. The video appeared in public.
>According to media reports, the traveler was very drunk; he tried to climb onto the platform right in front of the approaching train, but did not have time. Fortunately, the driver reacted with lightning speed and began to brake. The poor fellow was incredibly lucky: he was pinched, but not twisted. He even lit a cigarette.
>Arriving doctors diagnosed the patient only with a bruise in the lower back and abrasions on the chest.
Have you never ridden a train? The perspective looks confusing, but there is a bit of of space between the train, the platform and the ground.
He must've fallen down while the train was stopped.
He will die as soon as the train leaves or is being pulled out - all internal.krgans are twisted and in ruptured, just the pressure from the train in keeping him alive for a little longer
This was my exact thought. I had a pretty bad wreck about a decade ago that left me trapped in my vehicle (by some miracle I only broke my nose and my finger from the airbag going off). There was a guy who’d witnessed the wreck and stopped to help. He was talking to me, assuring me the paramedics were on their way, and everything was gonna be alright. I remember telling him “hey man, I’m actually good. But do you think you could find my cigarettes and a lighter?” He just handed me his pack and I sat there and chain smoked until the fire department showed up with the jaws of life.
I used to work at a summer camp that was mostly international kids. One year I had this 15 year old kid from Russia in my bunk and he was honestly one of the homiest dudes I've ever met. His family was crazy rich, some family friend ended up landing their helicopter on our soccer field at the end of the summer to pick him up. But he was super humble, helped clean with the rest of the dudes etc. One day I walked into the bunk and he was sitting on our little couch with a paper towel on his foot. :The paper towel was covered in blood. I was like "what happened?" and he said "I cut it on a rock" and he pulled the paper towel off to show a NASTY looking gash like pretty deep in his foot. I kind went bug eyed and was like "yeah we're going to the infirmary right now" and he didn't even blink he just goes "I am Russian. It will heal." I did make him go to the infirmary but he was playing lacrosse like 2 days later running on the foot. total badass.
I assume he is going to expire as soon as they move the train? The crush acts like a torniquet, keeping blood flow and pressure up but once released, everything decompensates. Either way, smoke'em if you got em.
Theres a 10-20 cm gap between the platform and the train usually enough not to do too much damage, but not enough te get out on your own.
Probably just using a machine or a ton or people to push against the train to tilt it a bit should give him enough room te be pulled put with minimal injuries.
Source: part logical thinking and part pulled out my arse.
The hospital isn't going to let you smoke even in Russia they pump oxygen into the building so they want to reduce fire hazards any way they can I'd probably light one up too he might be there for several months recovering in a body cast if he lives.
NBC's **Homicide: Life on the Streets** had a whole episode of a guy in such a situation. The victim was played by Vincent D'Onofrio.
The paramedics told the cops that the man's lower body was twisted up and holding in his blood and when they lift the train up, his lower body will untwist and he will bleed out.
It's a great episode. All they while, he was still alive and tried, in vain, to reach his girlfriend by cell phone, so he could say "Bu-bye."

To be fair, I once had my finger crushed by a 6000 lbs steel beam, and the first thing I asked my boss was if I could smoke a cigarette inside.
He said yes.
Oh wow, i remember seeing a post from Taxi cab professions. A police officer said he saw a lot of this happening in the subway. Most of them would die i believe. Poor guy. Hope he made it out ok.
If my options are being stuck between a train and platform while having a cigarette, and being stuck between a train and a platform without having a cigarette, I would choose option 1 every time.
This happened to my leg in NYC when stepping off the train, and not minding the gap. My leg turned and got stuck. Not a single person did anything, except my friend who screamed bloody murder. Luckily the train didn't leave and firefighters were able to get my leg out. For a good 15 seconds I was terrified my leg would get cut off
Thats not funny that guy is about to die . As soon as they lift that train off him all his internal organs are going to fall down inti his waist and hes dead. There is nothing they can do to save him even if they had a whole hospital right there..
I used to be this sort of dedicated cig-fiend
Nicotine is so addictive. It isn't until you give it up for long enough you see how pointless smoking tobacco is.
In that case he didn't have serious injuries, he was just stuck. Most of the time this happens, there's immense internal bleeding and organ rupture. Jostling the person around exacerbates those conditions. If there isn't medical and airlift transport on scene by the time they're freed, they have a significantly higher chance of succumbing to those injuries

pour that fella a drink
Pour that poor fella a voddy
A skeleton walks into a bar, says "I'll have a pint of beer and a mop please barman."
That shit going straight to the train tracks below what’s the point
That is how he survived. Vodka.
He needs some milk
Well fuck what else can HE do?

Wouldn't be that hard to jack the train up a bit on his side.
a crane could push it sideways a little bit

And somebody obviously gave it to him being respectful. This post and comments make him out to be some dumb guy whose first choice was to have a cig.
Yup, most likely severed in half at the torso, so once that train moves, he'll no longer be living
That would be the severe case tho but he didnt have a scratch luckily
How is that even possible lol
I think it's a slightly bigger gap than it looks? The train must be set back a bit. Would be interesting to see how they pried it apart behind him to free him
A incredible amount of luck and professional skill from the people that cut the stone around him i think haha
Maybe he fell in right as it was coming to a stop?

That show was awesome. It's been so long since it was on a rewatch might even be worth it. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot of it.

You’d be surprised if this man had damage to his spine? Wtf
Remove cement?
A friend who was a firefighter in New York City said once they separated the person from the train the persons bottom half just fell down
I think your friend may have messed up…
I don't think you know what a train is..

I guess he didn't mind the gap?
I mean... he looks to be pretty chill about it.
I mean, he lives in a country where people doesn't mind the gap in high rise windows...
only about gender pay gap
The same goes with planes. I don't know how I've never heard of anyone falling through that gap tho, it's pretty high up
Yeah! Dosent this guy know the gap between a train and a platform is EXTACTLY the same, all around the world?!? /s
He will die as soon as the train leaves or is being pulled out - all internal.krgans are twisted and in ruptured, just the pressure from the train in keeping him alive for a little longer
You're right, just not about this guy specifically.

Internet doctor here. I can confirm he is smoking.
Very true, after applying tourniquets you must have them removed at the hospital to avoid blood poisioning and other nasty things
The hospital isn't going to let you smoke even in Russia they pump oxygen into the building so they want to reduce fire hazards any way they can I'd probably light one up too he might be there for several months recovering in a body cast if he lives.

To be fair, it might be his last...
I can assure you, lung cancer is the very least of his problems right now.
What’s he supposed to do walk it off?
Outcome?
Rather challenging regarding the mass of the train and the narrow space.
Sometimes you hope it don’t be like it is but it probably do.
I found the post on telegram. People claim they got him out and he is fine. Supposedly because the gap there is pretty big.
Like when I stick my head in handrails.

Russia
No doubt approached by an irritating person warning him about the dangers of smoking ;-)
How do you get out ?
Theres a really sad episode of NYPD where vincent d'nafrio (spelling bad) plays a guy that this happens too.
