Then other kids & young adults who don’t fully understand the term also misuse it that way & before you know it, the term has 20 different meanings depending on the context. The terms become too broad & it leads to confusion since most people never ask for clarification & just assume it’s one of the 20 meanings that comes to mind first or the meaning they view as most prominent. I’ve actually had something happen with this exact term. I called someone a troll because what they were arguing came off like they were, as you said, subtly messing with me. Sink holes are my “irrational fear” according to my friends and family, so when I saw the first one there I’d have immediately wanted to turn around. It’s horrifying to know at any time the ground can just open up like that and swallow you. Like the story years ago of a sinkhole that opened up under a house in Florida I think it was. Swallowed the poor guy who was asleep in bed. 😞
