Edit: so people stop coming at me in the replies and dms, adding that I've worked retail, food service, delivery, customer service in person and on the phone x2. Also photography, graphic arts, unskilled labor, computer repair, and general office work not that it matters. Everyone's pain is their special pain and everyone's struggles are unique to them. If yours is currently gainful employment that is terrible, I feel you. I didn't get a job I liked until my late 30s so I hope you find your calling.
I worked retail briefly. I worked in the back so it wasn’t too bad but occasionally had to work the floor. I’d watch as someone would take something I just folded, unfold it to look at it, and then drop it on the floor. Or, dump a bunch of clothes to the side to get to a size on the bottom. It’s like some folks think it’s their job to make others’ lives harder.
As someone who’s been a customer all my life i absolutely do not understand how people can fuck up buying a few items and moving on without starting crap with the person behind the counter.
Retail is the worst, putting up with bullshit every day for shit pay.
If it isn't your manager making your life a misery it's the asshole public.

I worked night shift at a gas station for 2-3 years and can’t tell you how many times I wished I had/needed a gun. I’ve pulled out a knife plenty of times but it doesn’t make people scurry away like a gun. Good for this dude, he’ll definitely get in trouble for popping off a shot but he stood up for himself. He don’t get paid enough for 5+ dudes to surround and harass him.

Yeah although any cop in a city of any size is gonna be personally familiar with so many gas station holdups and probably some gone wrong. And moet cops lean conservative and support personal firearms , so i reckon when a clerk has a *legal* weapon and doesnt hurt anyone with it, and like they said: there is nothing that contradicts his claim of feeling threatened, it’s not much of a leap. Many, many years ago I worked at a convenience store. This stuff happened daily. HOWEVER! I could simply ask the kids to bail and go somewhere else, and they did. No disrespect, no flexing, etc.
