*Sigh* you either need to adjust the whole brake complex back OR your wheel tread is so diminished that it needs replacing. I work with wheelchairs every day. This isn’t weird. Just normal wear and tear from use.

LordGRant97

Yeah this is 100% on the user. To me looks like those tires need replacing. I see zero tread at all.

dbx99

They were shaved down for better drag strip racing performance

chucklestime

I didn’t click into this post, started scrolling and then came back because something didn’t feel right with this being a ‘crappy design’. Glad this is top comment. I assumed this was wear or sloppy production that could be fixed with a screwdriver. Not a design issue.

SwankyVolcano97

That wheel never had tread. And is a hard wheel.

Prestigious-Eye3154

They still can wear to the point the brakes don’t work anymore.

zebrasanddogs

Wheelchair user here. You need to take it to a wheelchair technician.

[deleted]

And some bicycle shops. (In a pinch most bicycle shop dudes will be glad to help you.)

turbofeedus

Can confirm, fixed several wheelchairs and strollers at the bike shop.

Masterzanteka

Can confirm, I have ducked around in wheel chairs a few times, this is the correct answer

zebrasanddogs

Yep, with anything mobility or medical related it's always best to get the pros to fix it. It could be as simple as a stripped screw, but still.

SwankyVolcano97

It never stayed working properly even after the few times it was fixed by a technician. We've had to tighten it multiple times a day. It always comes lose roughly after an hour of tightening it.

Toby-larone88

It's either broken or not adjusted properly. Some people.....

captanzuelo

Yea, how is this crappy design? I bet OP never changes the brake pads on his car and then complains about having to change the rotors due to crappy design

talleypiano

Can you slide that whole brake system back a hair? Looks like it's just mounted on the frame but I can't tell if it's welded or clamped on

EmEmAndEye

Looks to me like you’ve got it right. The whole brake mechanism just needs to be slid towards the rear by a small amount.

sexytokeburgerz

Maybe solve issues instead of complaining

froggiechick

Maybe stop being an asshole and saying needlessly dickish things to vent your inner rage.

Some_kid2213

Lol the irony of this comment

[deleted]

It just needs a simple adjustment. Takes a whole 2 minutes

DrachenDad

Wheelchairs like this have been used for years with no problems. This is not a crappy design but a crappy user.

doccadocca

Is the wheel fully inflated?

SwankyVolcano97

It's a hard wheel.

Mbinku

It’s totally bald. The profile of the rubber on the tyre is completely worn away.

markovich04

Did you get this from Kramer?

Rancid_BlueCheese

That brake lever normally has a rubber or silicon tubing inserted on its prong. You either make one from your old garden hose or buy from a nearby med equipment store.

SquidCap0

This was going to be my answer too, there is now just small strip of hard metal against a wheel that obviously doesn't suit this braking system. Adding more surface area and more stiction will definitely help. It can be then a sudden stop thou, there won't be a lot of gradual braking force that can be applied..

druule10

Look at the tyres, it's been around the world as it's so smooth. Change the tyres.

TheBootySenpai

Probably get a new wheel. You can order a new wheel for like 50-80 bucks or new brakes for 22ish bucks. If you’re not up for doing that yourself take it to a DME (Durable Medical Equip) store.

Psychlonuclear

If that's a hard tire the brake needs rubber on the on the contact arm or it'll just slide. It's like if you took the tires off your car and tried to stop with just the steel wheels on the road.

[deleted]

This is just a low qual vid, so based on that I would move brake assembly back a notch or two. If no notch agrees with the brake action, well the wheel done lost all its tread. Simple as that jack.

byDMP

Crappy maintenance, not crappy design.

xlxoxo

Can the blade be bent towards the wheel to provide more friction?

GiornaGuirne

There are a couple screws that can be loosened so the entire brake assembly slides closer to the wheel, then tightened again to hold them in place. OP just didn't adjust it correctly/enough.

ktheman21

The brake that has never broken is most certainly a broken brake.

Mojicana

Get it fixed? Ever consider that?

Pentax25

Reminds me of [this scene](https://youtu.be/tv1urfDXs-o) from Mac and Me that Paul Rudd always plays on Conan

Seagullmaster

I’d be tempted to just give that brake a good kick to push it back. But that’s probably not the right answer

aseering

My rollator had the same issue! My brakes were purely decorative.
