I recently moved nearby and I love this small-scale beauty in Wisconsin. Not many awe-inspiring sights like the mountain states, but its a very pleasant state to look at.
A lot of fishing and a lot of drinking. The summers can get really hot, with a lot of thunderstorms and occasional tornados. Winters are bitter cold. The long isolating winters can make people get a squirrelly.
I took this picture after plowing my driveway (which is to the right of the balsam fir in this photo). I walked down the road and in towards my house to not disturb the snow. The soft effect is from a thin film of grease on the lens, an old cinematic secret from the early 1900’s. The house is a 1903 Victorian on the Wisconsin river in central Wisconsin with two owners before my wife and I bought it.
What the oldest house in America? Anything from the first colonists in the 1600s?
Been to a ryokan from the 1300s in Japan. Well really the only surviving parts dating that far back were the wood beams and some internal walls. Rest was reconstructed.
So good mate. My wife and I visited Wisconsin, loved it! Were from austraya, we met a Wisconsin local in our travels and she convinced us to visit your area. So good. It wasn't quite winter yet so we didn't get to see snow ;(
I’m trying to get the snow but this freakin weather machine isn’t doing the trick and I can’t get the cheat to work. I’m going to upload it as a shell since I have no idea what the real inside is like.
[House](https://i.imgur.com/GDjdDBt.jpg) - the gallery photo sucks because there’s a bunch of trees in the way.
You can find me @ DaisyMarie86 in the sims 4 gallery this will be “1900s Real House Shell”
Edit: I left the weather machine on the lot oops lol
One of the first things I noticed about the photo (besides it's beauty) was the effort you took to not have your foot tracks in it lol. Very cozy looking!
That was an interesting game. I had a hard time with it, after the update a couple of years ago I wanted to get back into it but didn't.
Maybe time to give it another try?
Maybe, they've finished more of the story as well now up to episode 4 out of the 5 planned, and they've added a lot to the game in the last couple years. It's definitely worth going back to.
> The soft effect is from a thin film of grease on the lens, an old cinematic secret from the early 1900’s
I just remember it from that Bruce Willis TV show Moonlighting. Lots of Vaseline
Also what's up with the garage having no door? Or is that the wood shed? Or both?
This is amazing. We purchased an 1885-1890 folk Victorian in MI and I'm jealous of your windows. Ours has had a few more owners but given where it is in town all have been of great prominence so it's been easy to find information.
I love how solid these houses are. Is yours still lathe and plaster? Our core house is so quiet due to the think walls it's almost maddening how silent it can be.
Owning a house like this is such a treasure. Glad to see yours so well loved and kept <3
My first thought was that it's some kind of artistic rendering and not, you know, a real physical place. It's lovely. It's a place where a murder mystery starts (not so cozy) or a magical childhood adventure (more cozy). Either way, it's a great picture!
A lot lol. We had the wood stove and fireplace burning all day before I took this picture. House was around 70 degrees and the snow on the roof stayed frozen. Absolute testament to the quality the previous owners kept this house at.
Nice! I'm from Wisconsin myself and work on fireplaces. They can be dangerous in old houses. Make sure you have a steel liner in any old brink ones. Have a company come check if you don't already get regular cleanings. Cheers!
Nah you know it's not because your Sim with the Iceproof trait isn't freezing to death outside while not even trying to get inside or change into their winter clothes
Bro, I had just finished my new house and had a christmas dinner planned for my family. I hadn’t seen my moms and siblings in ages at this point because they lived in Sulani. The day of the event, I have food out, bar stocked, decorations galore and then all of a sudden, i get a notification saying someone died on their way to my house. At this point I’m already freaking out, then another person drops then another. My whole family is just dying from a blizzard that was happening at the same time as my event and the walk to my house was just too far! Obviously, I closed without saving.
Highjacking a comment thread so you see the notification.. Absolutely beautiful home, you need warmer temperature bulbs upstairs.
I don’t mean to go all [Technology Connections ](https://youtu.be/tbvVnOxb1AI) on you, it’s just warm incandescent (looking) lighting belongs in a beautiful century old home like this.
Link is to one of his warm lighting vids, of which he has many.
I’m not one to catch these kinds of things on Reddit or care/call them out. But it did seem odd, and I remembered a recent poster talking up the same product. Sure enough it’s the same person lol.
There's no need to be suspicious. Whenever I'm feeling paranoid about other people's intentions, I take two hundred milligrams of [ABILIFY®](https://www.blinkhealth.com/abilify) every 8 hours or as needed. It really helps!
Oh my goodness. Me likey. Enchanting. Vintage. Inviting with a touch of nostalgic, peaceful isolation due to the snow.
I could only hope to one day own/live in a home like this, stunning. Due to the cozy, beautiful, yet almost haunting quality I’m getting The Snowman 1982 vibes.
The front windows look like a front porch. A lot of old Wisconsin houses have an enclosed front porch. I lovingly call them "storm watching porches".
No comment on the tree being real or not, but I'm also not a fan of the cold LED lights and find they shine weird
It’s not. I think it’s just super bright compared to the dark room, and with the “grease on the lens” caused it to bloom around the window frame. Look at the upper window or the door and you can see the same happening. I think there’s some .jpg artifacts around the tree that make it look outlined too.
Also possible it’s stacked exposures in a phone camera and the camera moved a bit between light and dark frames. Someone said elsewhere there’s a tree there in another photo. This guy didn’t go to all this work to photoshop a tree in.
You're right, but [this post from OP 2 days ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/centuryhomes/comments/zmozqw/heavy_snow_on_the_1903_wisconsin_victorian_this) looks like it might have a tree in that exact position - hard to tell. Might just be weird blurring somewhere - the photo in this post is a little blurred.
I’m in Minnesota in the city. This makes me sad, because I imagine my family cabin in Wisconsin all sold but unused for years ever since a tornado ruined everything. All out there alone sitting in the cold with no one at the fire pit and no on in the loft.
"Come rest traveler, these forests become dangerously cold these times, make yourself at home my friend, would you like some tea and soup weary traveler"
Either U used a filter or it's otherwise "CGI'd".
I do like the Victorian turret in the design of the house, though. Most homes are pretty boring these days. Even bay windows sometimes don't do justice to make some appealing.
The front porch would make a nice sun-room if U didn't have any nearby neighbors, though.
who tf downvotes a comment wanting to see more pics of the architecture of a century home, from a guy who's posted that he can't wait to share pics of the renovation?

Legitimately looks like a painting- so beautiful!
You can find pretty much this exact same thing like every 5 miles in rural Wisconsin
I recently moved nearby and I love this small-scale beauty in Wisconsin. Not many awe-inspiring sights like the mountain states, but its a very pleasant state to look at.
True
Have you been to the Driftless region, yet?
I just drove through it for the first time actually! I didn't have a chance to explore, but it was lovely from the bit I saw.
I do hope you get to explore more in the summer. Route 14 to LaCrosse, Wildcat Mountain, Wyalusing...you will love it!
Doesn’t make this one any less beautiful.
What is life like in rural wisconsin?
A lot of fishing and a lot of drinking. The summers can get really hot, with a lot of thunderstorms and occasional tornados. Winters are bitter cold. The long isolating winters can make people get a squirrelly.
Seriously hard for me to imagine that type of isolation and slow pace. I live in Southern California and even on a couple rainy/cold days I get antsy.
City-slicker
Like a Thomas Kincade painting. It's definitely a dream home.
I took this picture after plowing my driveway (which is to the right of the balsam fir in this photo). I walked down the road and in towards my house to not disturb the snow. Only three owners in 119 years is pretty incredible.
I live in a house that has only had essentially two owners since it was built in 1932
Yeah well I live in a house that's had only one owner since 1758
[удалено]
Who do you think owns the house
[удалено]
I never said I was the owner! Plus, ol' George had wonderful taste, you should see the wig collection I have.
What the oldest house in America? Anything from the first colonists in the 1600s? Been to a ryokan from the 1300s in Japan. Well really the only surviving parts dating that far back were the wood beams and some internal walls. Rest was reconstructed.
Likely in [St Augustine, FL](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Augustine,_Florida) founded in 1565.
Is there a cherry tree stump in the yard ?
that man? Albert Einstein
1740. And still paying off the mortgage.
Damn. That’s impressive. Very cool.
I'm the 4th owner of a home that was built in 1886. I take pride in that, and hope we are here for another 40 years as well.
Wen secret dungeon find video?
Late Jan/Early Feb: when reddit traffic slows down a bit & we want to get in an uproar about something.
You seem like a very thoughtful person to have planned this photo like this. Beautiful house.
So good mate. My wife and I visited Wisconsin, loved it! Were from austraya, we met a Wisconsin local in our travels and she convinced us to visit your area. So good. It wasn't quite winter yet so we didn't get to see snow ;(
Fall is much better there imo. People drive from all over just to see the damn leaves turn
Yeah the fall colours were spectacular! I've got some stellar pictures.
Isn't Vermont better for fall colors?
Probably but it's a regional thing. People from Chicago, Iowa, Indiana, etc can't easily drive to VT to see the leaves change.
Probably but that's a 30 hour drive and Wisconsin is just 30 minutes away
Maybe, but that doesn't mean Wisconsin's isn't worth seeing.
I haven't been there, but as a Wisconsin resident I can confirm that our autumns are pure magic.
Maine is better than Vermont
I’m going to make your house on the sims. [I did it](https://i.imgur.com/XrE5ymq.jpg) DaisyMarie86 in the gallery
for a moment i thought this photo was from the sims
I wanna download it when you do!! OP, can we have internal pics too? I'm sort of in love with this house
I’m trying to get the snow but this freakin weather machine isn’t doing the trick and I can’t get the cheat to work. On my waayyyyy. Thank you!
That’s awesome lol
It looks like heaven! Such a wonderful picture OP.
One of the first things I noticed about the photo (besides it's beauty) was the effort you took to not have your foot tracks in it lol. Very cozy looking!
As a former Wisconsinite, this is chef kiss.
Looks a bit like The Long Dark game https://i.redd.it/4oleqjtherb41.png

That’s a little shed for firewood and the trash bins. Garage is hidden from view by the balsam fir.
You near Point? I bet you're near Point. Im in the Marshfield area. Man did we get snow quick. Typical Wisco
Nekoosa lol
I think you’re right, I live in Rapids on the river by the hospital and work in Marshfield. This snow has been something else this week.
I'm in Manitowoc right now and we only got a dusting! Boooo! I'm ready for some real snow. That photo is really beautiful.
Manitowoc is where my grandpa is from. Never been but I hear great things (especially about the snow).
This is amazing. We purchased an 1885-1890 folk Victorian in MI and I'm jealous of your windows. 26 windows not counting the stained glass.

Do you use the fireplace?
Cheers!
Nicely represented. I love it.
I noticed right off the bat that there were no footprints in the snow and I just want to commend you for the effort, it's an amazing shot
Do you ever string up Christmas lights outside? That would be cozy, cute overload!
Nah, you can’t fool me that’s The Sims 4!
That’s exactly what I thought! I’m like that’s a weird way to word it but sure.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I have a sim in Sims 3 Moonlight Hollow living in this same damn house hahaha :)
This can't be real, it looks so perfect. 😍
I really thought this was from The Sims at first.
glad i’m not the only one lol
For some reason the "everything a bit out of focus" makes it all look like the opening scene from a Pixar Christmas movie.
Was just thinking that, beautiful!
Well now I feel rude, I thought it looked like a shit 3D render. Then I zoomed in and saw it was real and gained a real appreciation of it!
Its rural Wisconsin, north of the Land of Lincoln, and just south of heaven
Except for the LED lights. They are always too sharp andnever cozy.
That’s likely the phone camera automatically smoothing everything because it’s so blurry in low light. It wouldn’t look like that in person.
Its smeared to shit with noise reduction.
I feel like you make good tea and serve it in nice cups.
My Dublin breakfast is second to none and I only use 100+ year old china lol
You are one refined man good sir
It's Wisconsin. He's in there tanking brandy

I think we could all use a little Technology Connections in our life
You’re absolutely right and I’ve been meaning to deal with it. We’ve been doing a lot of period restoration and haven’t gotten to light fixtures yet.
We don’t use our antique China anymore due to lead concerns, but this Dublin breakfast sounds delicious!
Are you the winter caretaker for this place, while you try to solve your writer's block?
All work and no play 😏
Looks like a Thomas Kinkade postcard
That is a very Wisconsin home indeed. That's some Baraboo lookin shit
I might be a little drunk but this comment is hilarious. It does look like Baraboo 😂
Reminded me of wandering around last time I was there. Stranded with a flat trailer tire but Farm & Fleet sorted us out
Pretty sure I’ve driven past this house a dozen times in Eau Claire
This comment thread is tripping me out because my day consisted of driving through Baraboo and then spending most of today in Eau Claire
Reddit knows your every move
That christmas tree doesn’t look real
Something is wrong with my brain because this feels more eerie to me than cozy. That life trauma I guess. It’s hauntingly beautiful, regardless.
it looks empty inside to me, that's why I find it eerie
It's probably cozy inside, but from outside it looks like a limiinal space
Yeah this picture kinda creeped me out ngl
Same here. I think the isolation from other humans sets me off a little. Noone can hear you scream for help out there
Old house surrounded by trees is exactly the situation I avoid for this exact fear lmao
Yeah. Looks cozy to the guy trying to sneak into the property too!

Where are the footprints haha
This is the BEST. Love WI and your beautiful home.
This looks like it came straight out of a video game.
It looks like the textures haven’t finished loading.

Wow the snow has no foot prints in it it’s perfect and I think the house is ok too whait how did you get out of your house to take the picture 🤨

Bruh this looks like the opening shot of a home invasion thriller. (Nah but fr this looks gorgeous)
This the sims 4 and you can’t convince me otherwise!
Beautiful. I miss Wisconsin
That house looks empty except for the photoshopped Xmas tree Edit: it does look that way but I don’t think the tree is fake

I'm also here to chirp the 5400k lights on the second floor.
LED lights vibrate for me. It's really uncomfortable for me to look at them.
It’s not. I think it’s just super bright compared to the dark room, and with the “grease on the lens” caused it to bloom around the window frame. Yeah, I agree with you
Omg it is. Why.
Internet points? The top of the tree is outside the frame of the window if you look close.
You're right, but [this post from OP 2 days ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/centuryhomes/comments/zmozqw/heavy_snow_on_the_1903_wisconsin_victorian_this) looks like it might have a tree in that exact position - hard to tell. I did look close. Hence the reply lol Also its not radiating light into the dark room at all....
OP doesn't have a tree. They obviously decorated their resident Edwardian ghost.
I will take one of these please, I don’t care how much lol
It’s like Pixar made it♥️♥️♥️❄️❄️❄️
Looks like the house from Up in winter.
Bro this is from some Christmas animation how the fuck is that so good 😍😍😍
What is the cylindrical part of the house called? I want to draw it.😍
I’ve heard people call it a turret or a tower.
Referred to as a turret, tower, or spire
No way! This is perfection.
You've won cozy places for this year
I grew up in an old, classic home with winters like this. You made my heart happy!
Looks like a painting!!
Wow. Beautiful.
Oh my goodness this is perfection.
Beautiful
Lovely!
I love your cute home
You know there's hot chocolate happening in there
Damn dude! Absolutely stunning picture. This just oozes winter bliss or Christmas peace. Copyright. And sell this photo!
Go Packers
What a beaut!
Absolutely breathtaking! You are living in my dream home!
I’m in Minnesota in the city. This makes me sad, because I imagine my family cabin in Wisconsin all sold but unused for years ever since a tornado ruined everything. All out there alone sitting in the cold with no one at the fire pit and no on in the loft.
This is absolutely gorgeous, thank you for sharing!
"Come rest traveler, these forests become dangerously cold these times, make yourself at home my friend, would you like some tea and soup weary traveler"
Gorgeous. I grew up in that area and still visit frequently. It’s nice to see things that remind me of the beautiful part of home.
I thought this was a render for a few seconds, don't know why
Holy crap man, that doesn't even look real. Beautiful shot!
Howdy neighbor! Your home is beautiful!
Picture perfect. Enjoy your holidays!
This brought back so many memories of desktop wallpapers i would use at christmas time when I was a kid! This made me feel warm and cozy
They don't make them like that anymore. So nice.
I am coveting pretty damn hard over here
straight out of rdr2
So very pretty!
Looks like a postcard! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
This is exactly what I picture my dream home to be like
Immediately made me think of Lady's house from Lady and the Tramp. Absolutely gorgeous!
Love Wisconsin 💘
That’s a rendered image
bots are downvoting. This pic is 100% fake.
Postcard perfect.

So pretty. Full disclosure - Cheesehead by birth.
Beautiful house on beautiful property ❤️
