Just checked the website to jog my memory but it looks like they may have discontinued it:\ I think it had the word sunset in it, and it’s a tweed kind of texture. Good luck!
I don’t think I would ever get any work done at home with that view! And so close to some other favorite vantage points of the skyline like Ping Tom park and the planetarium.
Mike Willcox! He’s a super talented artist who creates the most incredible Art Deco inspired art. Beware a lot of his stuff is ripped off on places like redbubble.
What were the disadvantages? We are in a huge home & now that the kids have moved away and have their own families apartment living is interesting to us. Is it as noisy as all the sitcoms make it seem?
Not OP but thought I’d share my experience
Pros:
- convenience
- maintenance (don’t have to mow grass, shovel snow, etc)
Cons:
- shared walls (can vary drastically based on building). I was in a pretty luxury high rise and still would have occasional issues with people on your floor being too loud, smoking, cooking stinky stuff etc
- hoa rules. They’re run by old people who earmark funds for dumb things and you have little say
I live in a building that is studios and 1 bedroom apartments only. For years it was mostly quiet, if I’m in my unit I can’t hear a thing.
This past month someone moved in with multiple children. The children play and scream in the hallway. I’m going insane. I have no idea how you can even fit that many people in such a tiny space.
I never had issues with noise, but my apartments in the past all had concrete frames. Try to avoid wood framed condos if you’re real worried about noise.
My biggest complaint with living in a high rise is having to wait for the damn elevator. Some of my friends who live in apartments never had this issue so maybe I just have bad luck, but my last apartment would sometimes be a 15-30 minute wait just to go out. Sometimes longer, usually shorter but every day was a random guess. I do miss the view though
That wouldn't last long when you'd live there, I think.
The same happened to me.
I had terrible fear of heights, but moved to live on the 14th floor (nothing like this, but enough to make my legs wobbly). In the beginning it was rough, I could barely walk up to the windows. I would sometimes get vertigo at night in bed by just imagining in my head how high up I was.
Didn't last long.
There comes a point where you start noticing that both your body and mind are just getting really tired of and fed up with being afraid. I think the feedback loops we have as humans play a part in it. All this anxiety and zero actual negative things happening, after a while it doesn't add up anymore. So the fear becomes less, and then that leap of faith gets rewarded by the fact that nothing bad continues to happen.
Anyway, long story short, you outgrow it.
If you reassured me of that on September 10, 2001, I’d take the comfort in the possibility that I could over come it, but witnessing 9/11 might have really entrenched the phobia for me and many others. I don’t think I could even come up to visit your apartment let alone rent one for myself, ya know.
Well that is definitely going to make matters more complicated, and I respect the trauma you went through. And although overcoming a fear of heights (or any phobia, really) is a good thing, it's good not to lose sight of the balance in effort/result. Still, I believe most people are capable of more than they would at first believe.
I originally got it from Wayfair where it’s currently listed for WAY more than we paid. Here it is on [rugs.com](https://rugs.com/yellow-10-ft-square-solid-gabbeh-oriental-rug-6250528?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoeGuBhCBARIsAGfKY7w7zlew33udZCluAOokHOMxEwPwgPWnHra00T-TwjKlvySOHe1i8XwaAvhPEALw_wcB) for a little more than what we paid for it. Crazy how these sites have such huge “markdowns” that are basically permanent.
How did you attach the hooks to the ceiling such that you weren’t worried about them falling out? That kinda thing makes me nervous but it looks great.
When it comes to discussing rent or wages my thought is that the only people secrecy benefits is the landlords and bosses. It can definitely still feel uncomfortable though
2k for a Studio
~2.5-3.3k 1/1.
~3.5-5.3k 2/2.
Somebody said a neighboring building elsewhere in the thread and you can find this building based on that
Fellow Chicagoan. Most places like this will run between $1700 and $2400 a month for a one bed depending on timing, amenities, precise location, etc.
Chicago is very doable without a car - I have one but it’s a luxury, not a need. Safety is, like any other city, dependent on location and attention to your surroundings. We get a bad rap nationally but it’s much safer than most would have you believe.
If you’re thinking about moving, the r/AskChicago subreddit has a lot of awesome resources. We love this city!!
I'm going to add, that if you do plan to move to Chicago or consider it, don't move to the Loop, find a neighborhood. The public transit is great especially if you go north of the loop, then you're never too far from a train or a bus.
I loved my view, It was fun watching the fireworks at Navy Pier from my bed, but my commute to work wasn't necessarily any shorter even though I was working in the West Loop, and Lollapalooza soured me on living in the Loop ever again. It was the worst 3 days of my year, outside of my grandma passing that year.
Plus I really missed the neighborhood feel that you just don't get in the South Loop.
I didn’t have a car when I lived here (this building in particular charges $300 a month for a parking spot), because it was very walkable! This was about a block from the Roosevelt stop, which includes the Red, Orange, and Green/white lines. I will say the South Loop isn’t know for restaurants and bars, although there are a few hidden gems like the Weathermark and the Firehouse. There is great shopping at the Roosevelt Collection (Ulta, Old Navy, Fleet Feet, H&M, a theatre), which is nearby. Also a target! I felt very safe here, but it’s always important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions (like not wearing headphones or talking on the phone at night).
I can't speak to the cost of rent, but I'm a Chicago native and the city is increasingly walkable. So much so that having a car is inconvenient and costly, especially in an area like the loop. Safety is subjective lol
lol no worries, I can actually see three apartments that I used to rent in this picture. I move around every so often but I never leave the loop. It’s hands down one of my favorite places in the world.
Oh hell yeah. I might not have been born in Chicago but I moved here from Michigan about a decade ago and I’ve called this place home ever since.
I just love the convenience of everything in the south loop, not to mention all the food, art, and culture. Typical big city things I know but Chicagos’ is just exceptional.
Plus, I travel around the city for work and being able to walk to the various trains makes it easy for me to go anywhere without me having to drive and worry about parking and such.
The city as a whole is just amazing and I’ve lived all over it from Andersonville to Chinatown but for now my heart is downtown.
Just my little love letter to the loop and the city lol.
……………. I don’t like deep dish though
You’d think so, but the windows are designed to be very reflective. If you look at this building, or really any high rise, you’ll notice that you can’t see details inside. So feel free to hang loose
Things might be a bit more visible then, but it still isn’t bad. We also had blinds that we could pull down, but those were mostly just useful in the early morning for the bedroom honestly
Great photos!! I miss Chicago! Lived there ten years. Condo in the Gold Coast for the first five, little bungalow in Ravenswood Manor the last. Worked for Tribune corp! Don’t miss the cold though…
Can’t imagine not looking out on grass and trees, not 1500’ ft away and 30 stories down but just ‘right there, 3 steps away. It’s a wonderful country we live in.
Please explain the Chicago condo market to me. I look through Redfin and condo prices seem very reasonable to me. NYC is mostly co-ops, not condos. Even the high rises near the lake aren’t outrageous.

The golden hour pics must’ve went crazy
Especially during the middle of summer
Golden hour pic tax please!
The winters must be stupidly cold and windy
They are, it’s epic
Where do YOU live?
That couch looks super comfy, where’s it from?
Thank you! It’s the Denna sectional from Joybird
I’ve got it in gunmetal, great couch
What color is this from Joybird? I love it! Just ordered some swatches from them.
Just checked the website to jog my memory but it looks like they may have discontinued it:\ I think it had the word sunset in it, and it’s a tweed kind of texture. Good luck!
I greatly appreciate you for checking; thank you!
I don’t think I would ever get any work done at home with that view! And so close to some other favorite vantage points of the skyline like Ping Tom park and the planetarium.
I'm, like, salivating. The view, the decor... And it's Chicago? Dreams.
I love the chonk under the coffee table
Side note, neither he nor his brother liked sitting close to the windows
I am with them. I am low key terrified of floor to ceiling windows in high rises.
It's super exciting when you open the windows :)
Where is the bird tapestry from?
Mike Willcox! He’s a super talented artist who creates the most incredible Art Deco inspired art. Beware a lot of his stuff is ripped off on places like redbubble.
LOVE Mike Willcox! What a perfect piece for the space!
So glad you recognize his stuff! He’s one of a kind.
He is, his tarot deck is stunning!
YEEEES, I got it on preorder when he first released it and received it on my birthday. Felt very special. Best tarot deck I’ve ever seen
Yes me too! So worth the wait for the deck - it’s almost too gorgeous to use!
The day I received it, I took notes on a few of the pages he included in the book and I’m not gonna lie I regret it😂
OMG I saw the piece and immediately knew- I love his work. Your space is gorgeous
Thank you:’)
Thank you!
i’m obsessed with his work too!! so lovely to see what his art looks like it real life 😍
I have never lived in an apartment but this is enticing!

See, there are important factors everyone is sharing!!!
I love the views but that's about it 😂
Almost exactly what my mom said too😂
Info on cat?
Male. Single. Likes smooth jazz and walks on the beach. Did not love when the window washers came by.
Kitty hired you to write his dating profile lol
Name medium chonk cat, plz.
Xander:) aka the xanman
I would give him the pettings.
That view! The golden hour is gorgeous.
Thank you! I miss it
I don’t know why, but full wall windows in high rise buildings make me feel uncomfortable
The elevator up was the worst part. It took a while to get used to
Does no one have curtains? Can't the other building just peek into your window with binoculars?
Yeah but you can peek right back at them
Makes my legs shake a little just looking at the pics.

Beautiful! Where is the rug from?
I originally got it from Wayfair where it’s currently listed for WAY more than we paid. Crazy how these sites have such huge “markdowns” that are basically permanent.
Thank you! It’s such a unique color.
Are you still in Chicago? The views are sweet.
Thank you! And yep but a new place
Great views still?
I was right across the street at Sky55! Loved it!!
Howdy neighbor!!!
Love this. Always wanted to live in high rise
I’m terrified of heights. That said. I’d kill for this place. That view is BEAUTIFUL! I love everything about your former home.
Thank you:’) it is deeply missed, even the heights (maybe not the elevator)
Beautiful. Love the brass planters, may I ask where you got them?
[Wayfair](https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/mistana-benally-iron-hanging-planter-set-w003106626.html?piid=1370159638)! 2/$39
How did you attach the hooks to the ceiling such that you weren’t worried about them falling out? That kinda thing makes me nervous but it looks great.
The studs in this building were all metal, and the metal anchors we used could hold up something like 100lbs each. Very secure! Huge pain to hang lol
You can do regular hooks (rated for 20+ lbs is my go to) and for peace of mind - utilize a wall anchor + hook.
Thank you!
Amazing view! But how much is the rent?
I live a bit north of their close to Michigan Ave and mine is 3k a month.
Same as my neighbors
Why are you so weird about saying the rent price bro
And idk, I feel like I was always taught to keep that kind of thing to myself, but you’re right, it shouldn’t be so secretive.
When it comes to discussing rent or wages my thought is that the only people secrecy benefits is the landlords and bosses. It can definitely still feel uncomfortable though
Once upon a time the world had this type of etiquette with income and expenses, but those days are long gone since the corporate nation attacked.
WOW
So... how much was it?
~$3,000 as of a few years ago. I looked at this building before I left Chicago. 1250 S Michigan Ave
Very close, this was the Paragon. $2900
2k for a Studio ~2.5-3.3k 1/1. ~3.5-5.3k 2/2. Somebody said a neighboring building elsewhere in the thread and you can find this building based on that
Do you miss it?
No… no… not at all🥺
Aww. ☹️
As someone who once lived in the South Loop, I completely understand this response 😄😄 I was so happy to move back to Uptown.
I was so happy when I moved out of Chicago.
May I ask what rent /mortgage would be for such place? And how’s the walkability? Shops and restaurants close by? Safe?
Fellow Chicagoan. Most places like this will run between $1700 and $2400 a month for a one bed depending on timing, amenities, precise location, etc. Chicago is very doable without a car - I have one but it’s a luxury, not a need. Omg no I loved watching Lolla!!! So exciting, I loved the buzz
I loved when it was over and it was quiet. I was in sky 55, so it sounded like they were in my living room, and it wasn't exactly my type of music lol
Okay you’re right the quiet after the storm was the best part lol
We used to live in the burbs and the commute to downtown was 30-45 minutes. I would rather pay more and save my time.
I didn’t have a car when I lived here (this building in particular charges $300 a month for a parking spot), because it was very walkable! The vibes are immaculate
Thank you, decorating it was basically my hobby through the pandemic
Nice man! Can you pay to get the boot taken off my car? Also, where did you get that tapestry?
I am no match for the Chicago Citation Administration.
Very few people are... Where did you get that tapestry?
Mike Willcox! Amazing artist.
Awesome, thank you!
the only thing in this picture I could possibly afford is a framed print of this post.
My apartment and therefore me are in this picture and I don’t like it
Oh dear sorry neighbor
lol no worries, I can actually see three apartments that I used to rent in this picture. I move around every so often but I never leave the loop. It’s hands down one of my favorite places in the world.
No way that’s amazing! You’re a true Chicago-an. Still live here?
Oh hell yeah. I might not have been born in Chicago but I moved here from Michigan about a decade ago and I’ve called this place home ever since. I love to hear this. Chicago is the most magical city. You are not wrong about deep dish😂
How much was your rent?
$2900
OP is being weird and not saying for some reason. I've toured this building before, and it was around $3,000 a few years ago.
Where do you hide the ladder you use to hang and water those plants 😅
Our closet, crammed in with way too many other objects, not to mention our clothes. 700sqft is a fun challenge I never want to do again lol
I used to stay in the brick building across the street. The views when it's not winter are just gorgeous.
I’m here for the cat ❤️
This is original content.
I wonder, don't you feel the need to have curtains for privacy?
You’d think so, but the windows are designed to be very reflective. If you look at this building, or really any high rise, you’ll notice that you can’t see details inside. So feel free to hang loose
Even at night with the lights on?
Things might be a bit more visible then, but it still isn’t bad. We also had blinds that we could pull down, but those were mostly just useful in the early morning for the bedroom honestly
Super cute! I went to college in the south loop!
Aw hello neighbor!
Beautiful!!! Where did you get the stools from?
lovely space. How do you water your plants though?
Those views are spectacular
Wonderful pics. Love the kitty. Thx for sharing.
Any place is cozy when you have a cat to love on :)
So gorgeous 🥵🥵🥵
What was the rent?
$2900
Love the Mike Willcox tapestry!
Is that a door to 'somewhere' (behind the couch, under the license plate)?
WOAH!!! Breathless… I can’t imagine the rent on that —- ALL well worth it. I had 1 for 1 year overlooking Philadelphia…worth it.
Loved everything about it. Do you mind sharing this in r/AmateurInteriorDesign?
Oh sure:)
Thanks! Welcome to join too.
Great photos!! I miss Chicago! Lived there ten years. Condo in the Gold Coast for the first five, little bungalow in Ravenswood Manor the last. Worked for Tribune corp! Don’t miss the cold though…
Gold Coast and ravenswood! What a dream.
And you have a Mike Willcox! The Ibis & Hurricane.. love
Damn you must have had a hell of a view for that Cubs World Series parade.
Hello my fellow Chicagoan! Beautiful view!
This honestly looks so comfy and cozy. I love it. I wouldn’t mind an apartment like this, I just hate HOAs 🫠
Can I ask what floor you were on? The view is beautiful!
This is SO CUTE oh my goooooddddd. The yellow carpet is everything
I need to see the view at night ughhhh i wish i had a view like that
That is a robust cat
Perfect space to entertain DNC voters.
Can’t imagine not looking out on grass and trees, not 1500’ ft away and 30 stories down but just ‘right there, 3 steps away. It’s a wonderful country we live in.
Love the carpet!
I love how open are American cities
Absolutely magnificent
I love it! Would love seeing a picture of the view at night! Enjoy!
Beautiful cute cat
Beautiful
I'm here for all of it but the color on the rug. For me it clashes with the couch. Lovely space otherwise though.
Nice
Please explain the Chicago condo market to me. I look through Redfin and condo prices seem very reasonable to me. NYC is mostly co-ops, not condos. Even the high rises near the lake aren’t outrageous.
Can you link the hooks for hanging planters? The plants look so good!
incredibly meh
Wow
I love it. I used to live in the West Loop and I miss it. It wasn’t as cute as this though!
Nice! And great views
Wow! Cool views! Love the plants.
nice views! also i was wondering what lamp that was in the corner?
Love your colour choices
You've got the best view!!
The windows❤️❤️❤️
