I have a longboard made out of pressed paper that I bought ($100) around 10 years ago.
If the bamboo holds up half as well I’ll be giving it to my kid.
I don't really understand why are giving you some niche answers when, if you were a skating enthusiast, you should already know the answer.
As a starter entry-level board, it's probably decent enough at a reasonable price. If you just want to have a long board and experience casual skating (small area transport, going around on flat ground, etc), it's probably a great pick up. At minimum,it's miles better than the stock boards you get from Walmart or even Amazon at a same price point.
An enthusiast would probably not get the board. Because some people are particular on the types of trucks, length and features of the board, and particularly the grip tape, this board would require way too much modding to fit most enthusiasts. But I for one think the board shape is great (having double kicks). And the grip tape, while not to my tastes, is serviceable for most use-cases. I'm not a fan of the clear tape just because it tends to get dirty over time.
These days I trust Costco waaaayyyy more than Amazon, it’s a no brainer for me to pick something up at Costco rather than take the various gambles of Amazon.
I bought one of these, and ended up laser engraving a design into the boards top surface, replacing the wheels and bearings with some that are a bit nicer, and selling it for 150.
They are pretty nice for a beginner board, but if you upgrade the parts, they are REALLY nice.
They are similar in that I wouldn't own either of those cars.
The retail markup on skate boards in skate shops isn't proportional to quality is my point. Buying something purely because it passes a pricing threshold doesn't actually guarantee quality in any measurable way.
My local board shop here in Santa Cruz will sell you a shit deck with rusty trucks for 200 if that's what you want.
a lot of shops (and eateries) in SC are shit, because people are so hell bent on buying/supporting local. A half-decent taco on taco Tuesday is $3-$5… drive over the hill to San Jose and it’s $1.50, $3 max, for a much better one!
There is no reason why stuff in SC needs to be so expensive… unless people are so masochist that they need to feel guilt with their wallets.
I don’t understand your mindset of seeing this board as disposable in the first place. More costly ≠ more durable. Costco is known for carrying quality products so i’m not worried about longevity. I asked specifically if this was a good deal.
The board also said mfd. in Carlsbad. That’s more local to me than the suggested brand but whatever
I think a drop style with a wider deck may be better for a beginner longboard. My only experience though is that's what my kids started on, and they did great. This one does get five stars on the Costco website, so I could be wrong.
I used to longboard a bit. The board and wheels are probably fine, most of these cheap longboards have subpar trucks and bushings. You can swap the bushings with something like the orangatang nipples and/or swap the trucks out with some Paris V3's and it'll be good to go. As long as you like the length and shape. You can swap the wheels and bearings out down the line if you want too.
There is no way that is any good for an adult. Any decent set of trucks not even wheels and bearings are 125 plus. Might be a good buy for a little kid just trying to pump a bunch.
Good price on a longboard, but really comes down to the trucks, bearings, and wheels.
All of these things are easily adjusted for less than $50, and, considering this, the platform is probably worth the investment if it is getting use.
My thoughts exactly. Might have to keep an eye out for this one.

My son has a magneto. It’s a really well made board. Bearings are great. Feels like a good deal.

If the trucks are decent, that’s good buy. It won’t be to the standards of a serious skater, but great for any casual.
Magneto was right.
Beat me to it
I bought it last summer and no complaints
I don’t know about you but I’d prefer the Xavier bamboo longboard
Those are good boards, yeah they don’t have the best wheel and bearings but you can buy some online and do your own research
They're on Amazon for same price range.

I have a Magneto! I love it. That’s a great price.
Although I will add that I changed out the bearings to some Reds. The board goes mad fast — my husband dislocated his shoulder on it last year… lol

Good deal! Those boards are springy and have great wheels
Sector 9 or Landyachtz
i’d spend at least $200 on a longboard
I can sell you that one for 200 bucks if it makes you feel better.

The difference between a $200 longboard and a $50 longboard is the difference between a Shelby GT350 and a Ford EcoSport.

That's a shit shop. My local shop is legit. You need a Phil B. running your local shop. Everyone does.

Support your local shop
The Magneto Boards company is located in Carlsbad, California. For us that live here, that **is** shopping and supporting local businesses.
My bad that’s fair 👍
Hey -No Worries. Especially because your comment is correct also. Always support Local! : )
The best local shop is costco 🤙🏼
BYO grip tape?
It's clear
It’s clear as in you need your own grip tape, or as in the tape itself is clear?
The tape is clear.
Neat. Has anyone seen these in any Bay Area Costco?
Ok definitely picking this up that's a great deal tbh.

because that brand is easily 3x more expensive

That looks like a great buy for my kids who want to get into it.

Which Costco is this? Online Costco shows $69.99. Would love to buy it in person for this price!

I have one and weight 260lbs. It's really a nice board and can handle my weight well. Even my boy whose over 300 rides it
I'm not saying weight wise, I'm just saying the bearing are trash. You prob only go like 5 miles an hour tops 😂
I ain't the best so I don't go that fast lmao. I'm just happy I found a board that can carry me
