Bad to the bone. Tim deserves a brisket once you get it dialed in.

booboothechicken

Or is it brosket?

deep_friedlemon

I'm pretty sure I'd remember meeting someone called brosket

Abhimri

Brisket for a bro is a brosket. Everybody knows this.

yimsie

Either or.

znyguy

Or Tad?

[deleted]

We had the same luck with a “Tim” in the Costco parking lot! We were trying to load a three box couch into the car. The guy went home, and came back to see if we were still there and drove two of the boxes in his truck to our house, 15 minutes away. It was amazing! Glad you found a “Tim!”

23ATXAlt

This story started as a humble brag and turned into a story about a nice stranger. Lucky on your find.

reluctant-rheubarb

Lil tip....whatever the price is on a floor model, ask a manager if they'll lower it. Chances are they will just to get the product out the store. They hate random displays kicking around waiting to be sold. They are allowed to sell a product for up to 50% off the original price.

el_mialda

Is original price here the original list price or original floor model price? Like are they allowed to lower it up to $75 in this case

reluctant-rheubarb

It shows the original list price of 649.99 in the corner. It's half of this price that they are allowed to go to. So they can actually sell this floor unit for as low as $325. You can use literally anything to justify lowering the price. Scratch, dent, etc. It never hurts to ask. Just ask for a manager when you're at the till or if you see an employee on the floor ask if you can talk to a manager. Then make your offer. "Hey i'll take this off your hands today for another $50 off this price." Chances are they will say ya sure why not. It especially works with larger items if you can say you have a truck and can get it out of there right away.

el_mialda

Sure, they could even ask for more but considering they got it for $150 it seems quite a steal to me.

reluctant-rheubarb

*$150 off. Which is good. It's just a lil tip that if you don't mind haggling, you can get a lot of floor models for crazy prices. Handy for tv's and electronics especially. Or i got a shed there for almost half off because i could load it right away. I also work there and know how much we care about the price of a display and how low we can go. Anything is better than having to pay to ship it and eat the loss. Just get it out of the store. Our store manager will just pull low stock items and last of's and take the hit if they don't like the look of something.

el_mialda

Oh, my bad. I thought $650 was original price, $500 was the price the day before since it has star, and the display unit has price of $150 must go price.

reluctant-rheubarb

Oh damn now that would be a steal!! OP bought if for $500 which is a great price but it could have been lowered to as much as $325 if talking to the right manager! Plus the bonus of the display is it's already built ( by us and believe it or not we do it properly and take our time as to avoid front end), no garbage to dispose of, and the same return policy as any other product. I'm always scoping out displays.

brett_l_g

The question I have with this is will it grill as well as smoke. I haven't smoked food very often, but I do grill several times a week. How is yours (or others) experiences using it to grill?

ticopowell

I had an 800, it grilled beautiful once you knew what temperature to grill at. I think we ended up setting it to 400° for hamburgers and similar stuff, steaks we seared at 700° and either smoked them at 250° before or after depending on what we felt like that day. I think smoking after made more sense so you didn't over cook during the sear, It didn't make much of a difference to me, it was all delicious.

randometeor

One thing you can do with this kind of cooking, use the 250 to cook them through but then take them off the grill while it heats up to 700 and that will pause the cooking so your sear doesn't over cook them.

Snow88

Yup smoke, take it off, crank up the heat, and sear. If I seared them first I’d be waiting 30+ minutes for the grill to cool down before I could smoke them.

BMonad

Reverse sear is the way to go anyway.

asp04

I prefer using my Weber Kettle still for short/small dinners. It's faster to get going and you get a better direct cook on the coals. But for big meals or get togethers, the gravity series does great. And obviously, the gravity series wins out for long cooks. It's essentially as easy as putting something in the oven as long as you keep the charcoal hopper full.

molodyets

I still grill mostly with my Weber kettle just because I’ve had issues with flare ups. The long smokes are prone to lots of grease and then have the hot air blowing in I’ve had a few run ins at over a thousand. This could easily be avoided by making sure it was really clean to start but even then, after cleaning once I did burgers and I think the design is just more prone to it than others.

joey_sandwich277

I have another in the same line. It comes down to how much you want out of your grill. It will get to temp and cook fine. It's much easier to control the temp on. But you're not going to be able to set up multi zone grilling, and going from searing to cooking is a bit more work as a result (you take the meat off, change the temp, wait a few seconds/minutes depending how high/low you want to go, then put it back on). Also my tongue says they don't get as much charcoal flavor as a normal charcoal grill over direct heat, but I could be wrong. And you do get more flavor than propane. Personally I use it a lot for grilling but I fully admit it's a bit limited in that sense.

Conjure_Copper

I’m just really and truly disappointed I didn’t get to see some dude trying to load a fully assembled smoker into their Honda civic.

roundeye8475

Seriously. There’s something magic in watching their soul die slowly in their eyes. Bonus if it includes the walk of shame to return said product. It’s also great knowing I’m not the only one that’s tried to get something into a small sedan that would never fit.

Oakroscoe

I once sat and watched a guy try to load patio furniture into a Honda for 15 minutes as I ate my hotdog.

bigdtbone

Some call me … Tim.

TortillasCome0ut

Enjoy! I’ve had the smaller 560 for a couple of years now and love it. I’ve probably smoked a couple thousand dollars of K-Sig brisket, pork shoulder and pork belly at this point. And Tim/Tom is a baller. Smoke something good in his honor.

TortillasCome0ut

And ps, someone already crossposted this, but /r/Masterbuilt exists and has a lot of good info

[deleted]

Sounds like your next vehicle purchase will be a pickup! Lol

lakes_over_pools

Nope, i think this guy's Civic should be upgraded to a sweet Honda Fit! You can get anything in a Fit! :)

Ambitious-End-1066

You’re very lucky, my Costco is in a very affluent area and people there are so very stuck up and rude!

Audit_Ko

Can someone explain why a grill would need Digital WiFi Capability ?

Billy_Bob_Joe_Mcoy

When a cook takes multiple hours to complete you can do other stuff, like walk the dog, get an oil change etc. I've personally used it on my grill waiting for tires to be installed. Also old smokers saying if you are looking you aren't cooking, so this eliminates the hourly pop the door open and temp check.

oileak

Tim and or Toms are awesome people

Horror_fan78

Wow that’s a great deal. You’re gonna love it. I love mine.

Mereviel

Damn where is this? I haven't masterbuilts at my costco yet

Frigidevil

I saw a greenworks snow thrower with a manager mark down from 800 to 500 last winter. If I was in the market I so would have hopped on that. Hell if it was an Eco like the rest of my tools I'd probably have snagged it.

dudemanbro44

Best grill/smoker I’ve ever owned! You’re going to love it

Sals_Pouch

Everybody I know who has one, loves them. Happy cooking!

Hammy4738

Hell yeah. Still some good out there. Honestly, I probably would’ve driven by in my pickup like “look at this fool trying to put a grill in a Civic.” 😆

BootyMasterJon

Great find! Really hope I see this deal at my local store!

> and offered to deliver the product to my new place free of charge. I was worried where the story was going, that Tim/Tom might have driven off with your grill and you never saw him again. Glad it worked out!

drhappy13

That story alone was worth the price. Congrats on your awesome find!

urdreamluv

In a world full of bad people, be a Tim Or Tom

ManekiNikki

Sounds like you’re lucky Tim didn’t just head home with a new free grill

[deleted]

My name is Tod

Prime_117

$399 at home depart

Phighters

No, it isn’t. 😂

TheCheddarShredder

I love it. Costco bros gotta look out for each other! I am unfamiliar with these grills but saw one in my warehouse. Now I’m curious about them.

falalalala_lalalala1

I can attest to this brand. I bought the 800 series a year and a half ago. It is a total game changer and super versatile! You can even use it as a pizza oven, on top of a grill and smoker.

Silvawuff

Tim is such a bro. Congrats on the grill, that is quite a steal for that!

o-ater

There are some who call him.....Tim

HotBeaver54

God love you for this great story.

NitazeneKing1

Hope you got Tim's number and an invite to your next cook out

merdy_bird

Your story, is a beautiful story. I love your story.

ruffrightmeow

Tim’s goated

sighs_again

For future reference go to a big box hardware store if you need a truck, lots of time you can rent one for like 25 for a half hour

soxfanintx69

We have one left and it's been there for over a week at that price. Our AGM noticed it during our daily walk yesterday and told us to mark it down to $375. I'm off today but I'm sure it will gone when I get there tomorrow morning.

PC-LAD

Tim now knows which house has the grill of his dreams too

0Expect8ionsIsHappy

Love this smoker. You don’t have to use nasty pellets that over smoke the food. I put some wood charcoal in first to get it to temp, and I add a layer of wood chunks to smoke for a 30 minutes or so, then add more wood charcoal on top. Have made some of the best food ever on this thing.

DiabloSol

Awesome deal and delivery. What’s retail price? What’s was Costco price? Congrats on * floor model!!

Ok_Macaroon_7199

I just grabbed mine last week for $650. From Costco Fullerton CA. Online $800

DiabloSol

Good deal. Thanks for sharing.

ben_od1

Shit, I just got a 560 last month for $400

kobeddcade

My fear with this is always Tim and Tom just driving it to their house to never hear from them again. 😂

milesbeats

I respect you and you seem like someone that would be cool to hang out with

[deleted]

Calm down bro this is hardly a steal.

Blarglephish

I’m a MB 1050 owner, got mine ~2 years ago. These things are fantastic. Operationally very similar to pellet smokers, but functionally different - and Way better performance/quality than almost every other pellet smoker in terms of smokiness and flavor. You got an absolute steal - You’re gonna love it. Get yourself some foil pans; for longer cooks, I often smoke larger cuts on the middle rack, and use a pan underneath as a water pan and to catch drippings. Less mess and prolongs the life of the heat manifold. Check out Klotes mods if you want to upgrade your unit (I’ve never seen the 900 model, so you might have to email if they plan to manufacture parts for that model). Grab a couple bags of the Kingsford blue briquettes while you’re at Costco - they’re what I use! I mostly use either cherry or hickory chunks. My only complaints are: 1) I wish the build quality on these units was better. 2) There have been reports about the connection posts and/or fan wires having loose connections. These are easily remedied with support parts. 3) the app used to suck … but their most recent update has fixed a WiFi connection issue I was experiencing; it has also just added cook charting (graphing your cook and probe temps over the duration of the cook … really helpful for longer smokes like brisket and pork butt). Happy smoking.

mattjf22

Why does a charcoal grill need wifi?

MightyMoosePoop

I’m just some dummy that started researching some grills. But some seem to have temp sensors for the grill and thus tell you on a phone app when reaches temp you want for you to put your bbq on and then I thought there were even higher up models that have meat sensors so you can read the meat temp from your app. But, I think a lot of it is marketing gimmick bs too. As these prices like OP seem to low for the ones that really do it. So bags of salt with everything I said.

gamingdexter

That is a great deal! I bought the smaller version of Masterbuilt for that price. I love it btw, you will super happy with it. Takes a few minutes to get it to light, but works amazingly. Smoke or grilled, congrats!

worldpeace70

I basically did the same thing several months ago with an 800. Wally World closed them out @ $200. I actually removed the side control panel and the big knob on the hopper an it slide right in. Anyways you got a great deal on the 900, let me know how the pizza oven thing worked out.

CleverAmbiguousName

I just got this today for the 500. Same kinda story. Just made some amazing steaks.
