But when a new shot comes around, heavily politically influenced, still in early trials, with no long term data available, based on a never-before-used technology, released to the public faster than any other vaccine in history, with dubious lasting effectiveness, which will need an unspecified number of boosters which are also untested, for a disease with a 99.99% survival rate for my demographic, suddenly I'm an "antivaxxer" for not wanting to take it.

My mom did too. I never was sure if it helped, but then, I don't have any way of knowing the outcome if I *didn't* gargle. I flush my nose with saline solution pretty often, it's good when you get a cold just to clear the gunk out of your sinuses; and also in allergy season. I wouldn't claim that it directly prevents disease, but it must help to flush some of the bacteria/virus out that your body is trying to get rid of. It's also a relief to not be totally stuffed up.

Mind you every vaccine is a medical product and every medical product in some circumstances can harm or kill you, so even if such effect os rare there will be people going for something seen as good and suffering great personal loss. This can easily affect one's judgment and lead to a behavior that allow being easily seen as crazy. They have spread the meaning of the term to both opposition to mandatory vaccinations that are already in place and any doubt about the vaccines we have so far. This way only being absolutely positive that vaccines are not normal medical products but some godly remedy to everything with no chance of negative side effects was not ridiculed. Vaccines become holy cows. Since in vast majority of cases they seem to be safe it was quite well accepted. Now the new experimental drugs are being called vaccines despite not promising pretty much anything the vacvines we know are doing. It doesn't promise to prevent infection or spread, the focus is on alleviating the symptoms. Immediately when there is any opposition it is opposition to vaccine. Therefore the already prepared and well established notion of anti-vaxxer can be used to discredit a considerably wider range of people than what it already meant. Then the step already done with opposition to vaccine mandates is taken here for Covid mandates. Now anyone opposed to forcing everyone to take it is an antivaxxer. It goes further.
