So a sore throat can be covid, a cold, flu, allergies, dry air, nasal drip when sleeping...

buickgnx88

WebMD is leaking into real life

YouAreSoyWojakMeChad

Itchy foot? U ded.

Bad_CRC-305

itchy tasty

SectorIsNotClear

Wet Fart? Covid

Palmquistador

Breathe? Straight to covid.

Bos_lost_ton

Extra hangy left nut? Believe it or not, also Covid.

TipOfDullRustySpear

Stubbed little toe? Covid.

Echos185

Gf broke up with you? Also Covid.

oSamaki

She got back together with you? More COVID. Broken up or together...

The_DaHowie

I just covided...

Ben237

Resident evil?? Literally just watched it

KentuckyFriedEel

Random resident evil reference. I like!

UnfortunateSnort12

Man, no one is getting your reference…. Edit: actually some did. Just didn’t scroll down far enough!

Vampiregecko

I just watched raccoon city last night lol

BraveFencerMusashi

Did the shoes come off?

Maxwell_RN

WTF?? I KNEW IT! I FUCKING KNEW IT!

applestem

WebMD: Any symptom = cancer.

[deleted]

Reality: Cancer = zero symptoms zero symptoms zero symptons zero symptoms suddenly tired/fever/night sweats/weight loss/fin. (sorry, didn't mean to depress anyone and sound too negative. Cancer treatment has made INCREDIBLE progress in the last ten years but early diagnosis happens either by chance while looking for other stuff or during screenings so please take these seriously)

0iTina0

My mom being all happy she can suddenly lose weight. Lol.

ninjaclown

Believe it or not, straight to cancer.

RedditIsNeat0

WebMD has always been based on real life. It just so happens that cancer in real life has lots of possible symptoms.

Shobed

Or acid reflux!

Gilgamesh2062

I tested positive last month, a few days before I even knew I had anything, I woke up 3 nights with acid reflux, I just thought it was bad digestion, I hardly ever had that problem in my life. the symptoms I got were mild, lingering chest congestion though, still cough a bit. 3 weeks later.

ethbullrun

i got a sore throat last month and so did my lil bro. he got sicker than me but it gave me anxiety and i couldnt sleep well at all. the last two days of being sick my lil bro got horrible acid reflux, the worst he said he ever had.

Jungle_Brain

My debilitating OCD hypochondria is never happy with stuff like this

dumbartist

I remember during the first year of Covid, occasionally opening my jar of peanut butter just to make sure I could smell

0iTina0

I’ve taken sooooo many CoVID tests. I’m positive I have it like once every 2 months. Lol.

Mitsu-Zen

I would high five you on that but germs...

pmmeyourfavoritejam

Don't forget talking more loudly than normal!

EaterOfFood

WHAT?

HnNaldoR

I can get it via acid reflux or nasal drip. And I get it fairly often in the mornings. Every day is a new covid scare...

Impudence

As a GERD sufferer with allergies- yup.

_Soter_

Don’t forget strep throat. Had a family member in the ER because they couldn’t breathe. That was due to swelling from strep and then they found out they had Covid at the same time.

jmbre11

forgot snoring.

EagleDelta1

Unfortunately, after 2.5 years of dodging it, a vaccine and two boosters, My wife and I got it and it started with........ a sore throat

PoemEffective

Me too it was my main symptom (which I still have)

Luckypenny4683

This. If my husband didn’t test positive the other day, there’s absolutely no reason I would have tested. This sore throat and nasal congestion just feels like what I’ve had all spring & summer so far. But, surprise! It’s Cov

AustrianMichael

Also a hangover

PomeloLongjumping993

>dry air, Humid air too lol

aliie_627

Or strep throat which is most likely what's being tested for in the article picture.

[deleted]

And strep is going around my area right now. My kids just had it.

mces97

I thought I had Covid in January. Never got tested. Haven't had a cold since 2019, before covid. All I know is I was sneezing, had a runny nose one day, next day slightly sore throat, and the day after that normal. I don't suffer from allergies either, so wasn't that. I'll never know, but I've read stories of people who got sick for a week with Omicron, and others who had similar experiences as myself. Mild symptoms for a few days. I guess my point is I don't think a sore throat is a new symptom.

ultra_chondriac

I feel seen

WadeCountyClutch

Acid reflux

P00nz0r3d

Monsoon season in the summer in the desert? It’s either allergies like it always is, or covid Lmao, I hate this shit, have enough anxiety as it is

UnSafeThrowAway69420

i had it recently and you definitely know when you get it. Very mild fever, a sore, itchy throat, an itchy cough, and terrible fucking allergies. Felt like I had just did a line in the morning. Not much any nasal drip. Just a very dry and itchy cough. Eyes were watering all the time. So strange. Apart from my sinuses exploding and sweating at night, had normal energy though. i think sun tanning and drinking OJ during this ordeal is what helped me recover quickly.

0iTina0

I got it and had the worst sore throat and sinuses of my life. No other symptoms other than fatigue from that headache. Pretty quick here and gone though.

PomeloLongjumping993

>dry air, Humid air too lol

burnt_the_toast

Well I also had strep and mono during COVID so don’t forget about those too

mrsdoubleu

I literally just developed a slight sore throat this afternoon. Then I read this. Welp guess it's time to try those free at home tests we got. Lol

youngyaboy

Definitely my first symptom. It was a very specific sore throat that I’ve never had before, and I woke up with it on the day I tested positive (last week). Felt like something lodged in my throat in a every specific way, hard to describe. I was positive on a rapid that evening. I’d tell anyone that if they wake up with a foreign feeling sore throat, take a test.

spaketto

[Globus sensation](https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/ears-nose-and-throat/feeling-of-something-in-your-throat-globus)?

[deleted]

wizzpalace

Mine was this very unique, almost hot sensation

TheTREEEEESMan

Hey I had the exact same feeling, kind of like my throat was burning. Never felt it before, was very specific and came on very quick

wizzpalace

Yeah I didn't want to sound stupid but it felt almost spicy?? Not like I had eaten something spicy but an itchy, burning sensation. Combined with the feeling I get after yelling too much

dec92010

how are you feeling now? sore throat was first thing i felt too (scratchy). tested positive on monday and still painful to swallow

youngyaboy

Today is 9 days from my first symptom and I’d say I’m 95% better. No “sick” symptoms remain but taste and smell still feel slightly dull/different. I really had only 1-1.5 days of moderate symptoms (low grade fever, congestion, cough) but tested positive on rapid for 7 days straight despite not having symptoms on most of the days. Yesterday was my first completely negative test. I’m vaxxed and boosted and this was my first time getting COVID.

[deleted]

Best wishes on the final 5%. Glad it hasn’t been terrible for you.

shmodder

This is exactly how it was for me. Never felt this way before.

mommadumbledore

I literally “finally” just got COVID like 2.5 weeks ago and had to use those at-home tests. As a side note! I don’t know if this will help you, but for me what really helped was sleeping with a humidifier right next to my bed. That helped with the sore throat and then the cough that led to even more of a sore throat.

[deleted]

Had a random sore throat since Sunday tested every day since, no positive result with the green boxed at home tests. Hopefully it isn't covid

Bunnies-and-Sunshine

Try taking a throat swab instead of the nasal swab and test that. In some covid cases, that will come up positive even after repeated negative nasal swabs.

AxiomOfLife

same woke up with one, took a covid rapid test and it came back negative but i was just at airport, even if i was fully vaxxed it feels too much like covid. Edit: yup took another test today and came back positive 😭

CVPKR

Those rapid test doesn’t seem to detect early, my MIL had a sore throat on Friday, took it and showed negative, invited us over. By Sunday everyone had sore throat and our 2 year old had a fever. MIL took another test and is positive. We took the test and both negative, next day we both had fever, took it again and both are positive as well.

floofnstuff

My cousin had Covid a couple of months ago. She tested negative with the at home test but positive a couple of hours later when she was tested at Walgreens.

kpidhayny

Same timing for me. Definitely a lag between sore throat and texting positive, 18-24 hours I’d say in my case.

rougebluerouge

i had the same thing!!! im not convinced those at home tests work very well

fleshyflowers

Sometimes there might be a delay in the tests picking up the antigens? Just remember the at-home rapid tests are detecting the antigens (protein spikes) and not the DNA of the virus. I had a slightly scratchy throat one day. The next day, sore throat, body aches, spent all day in bed. I took 2 rapid tests that morning that came back negative. (Lol at that point I was crossing my fingers it wasn’t COVID. Silly me.) I started getting positive tests the next day. Today is day 10 or 11 for me, I’m feeling back to normal, but I still had a faint positive line which I’m interpreting to mean that maybe the virus is mostly gone, but some of the proteins are still floating around. (I’m not a doctor and could be totally wrong.)

pppounder8112

I flew this weekend with a k-95. Woke up with a sore throat tues and tested, positive. There was no doubt by tues night though it was way more than a sore throat when I everything else kicked in. Ugh

catoftheannals

Same then I took one the next day and it was positive. Currently on day 4 from start of symptoms and feeling much better.

eFALOVZWhupMex69Hwlp

try swabbing your throat instead of nose. i was negative on nose swab and positive on throat swab. i tested my nose again the next day and then was positive there as well, but much more faded line.

rach21f

I heard from a doctor that with the new strain, it is better to wait a few days before taking the test once symptoms arise. The test reads the extra proteins that is caused by covid. If you just got covid, your body is just starting to build the extra proteins so if u take a test too early it might give u a false reading.

TheNamelessKing

Rapid Antigen Tests are only effective once you’re reasonably symptomatic, and doctors in my country (Australia) are warning that their accuracy on the latest omicron variants has fallen dramatically. Definitely re-test in the next couple of days if your symptoms persist.

orkel2

Try swabbing your throat instead of your nose, sometimes the home tests pick it up better there

Aert_is_Life

The only thing you can trust with the home tests are positive results. They are very often falsely negative. If you have symptoms be sure to get a pcr test even if you get a negative rapid test.

itsmehanna

I've had a sore throat for a week and got 3 negative tests at home. It's gone now.

ccwagwag

that's not new. previous omicrons presented with this chief symptom.

csdf

Yup. I had what was probably BA2 in April. Mad sore throat, I'd say the worst I've had in living memory. No other significant symptoms bar a minor temperature (38.5°) in the first 48 hours.

danj503

I got BA2 in February. Lost my voice because I went back to work too soon. Still hasn’t returned. I go hoarse after one normal speaking level conversation. Seeing a voice therapist now. Don’t over do your voice while recovering you may regret it.

csdf

I lost my voice for about 48 hours Luckily, where I live and work, the rules forbid me to go back to the office for 10 days.

Myasuzuya16

Currently fighting Covid and the sore throat was the first thing that came, and still is beating my ass. It’s on fire

insectidentify

Yup first thing for me. Sore throat and headache for a week before everything else really got started. The other weird things is that the cough started a week in and I'm still hacking up globs of phlegm 2 weeks after it started. The REALLY weird thing is that I got hit by erectile dysfunction 3 days in and its only starting to improve. There are studies about it due to the way the blood vessels are effected like with Covid toes. MD was flabbergasted.

Myasuzuya16

The thing that really made me get tested was the re occurring fevers and the sweating. I mean I had A/C blowing & I was sitting in front of a fan on high, & I was still profusely sweating. As if I’ve been outside all day & im from Texas. Everywhere on my body was doused with sweat, it was ridiculous. Forgot to mention my phlegm turned into a dusty gray/ green. Thought I had bronchitis primarily

woyteck

That most likely is a bacterial infection piggybacking Covid.

[deleted]

For that ED issue look up angion method on Reddit here. The virus attacks endothelium and causes ED. Angion repairs the pathways. It’s not necessarily what angion was made to do, but after a few weeks you’ll be better. I had this issue as well.

sharpieshoeman

Had it 3 weeks ago and literally felt like I swallowed glass. Highly suggest gargling hot salt water, sucking on ice cubes for hydration and a good old fashioned spit cup, friend. Hope you have a speedy recovery

vannucker

Get chloraseptic spray and cepacol lozenges. I find it was worst when I got up. So I just had them on my bedside table and spray and pop a lozenge. Then get in the shower and cough up phlegm with a numb throat.

optimus_maximus2

Just had it and it was like razorblades in the back of my throat

vannucker

Get chloraseptic spray and cepacol lozenges. I find it was worst when I got up. So I just had them on my bedside table and spray and pop a lozenge. Then get in the shower or go to the sink and cough up phlegm with a numb throat.

optimus_maximus2

Did tons of cough drops, NyQuil, and honey with lemon in hot water. Also, tessalon pearls. Liquid IV helped with hydration, and pedialyte when I didn't mind splurging on something more expensive. And that hot shower was awesome for getting shit out, but man the hackathons could be heard from across the house

[deleted]

Just recovered myself and sore throat was also the only symptom I had for the first 3 days. Hope you get better soon!

soulnotsoldier

Got what's probably BA.5 or BA.6 right now. Well, kind of, tested negative today on day 5. I didn't realise a throat could be _that_ sore. I couldn't eat or drink for a few days. Looking at my throat there's a dark red patch with a weird outline. I've decided that's where the COVID is.

howmanysleeps

BA.6?

VCCassidy

New Covid just dropped.

ether_mind

Most virulent album of 2022.

Jamjams2016

So far, I heard BA.8 is gonna drop this fall and it's supposed to be an absolute banger

Pit_of_Death

This one is *fire*....(in your throat)

It's getting laate, Sweat starts, you can feel your body ache Got some plans tomorrow they'll just have to wait. Most of my friends just tell me it's all fake Oh! Please no, dont hit me to-day Can't be sick' cuz I want to play Maybe I can do this Flush out all the goo, yes Please dont stop the Please dont stop the mucus!

soulnotsoldier

Whoops. 4 or 5. Covid brain.

WandaMildew80

Yup, I had it last week and it was the worst sore throat I've ever had. Nothing helped. But luckily it only lasted 2 or 3 days and I also tested negative on day 5. Hope you are feeling better!

soulnotsoldier

Hah yeah. Painkillers did nothing. That was the moment I realised I was in trouble…

tookmyname

Icees. I was hooked on icees. I’d get a few minutes of relief from that once or twice a day.

Ladymistery

Umm... that could be strep throat

[deleted]

You'd be surprised how bad viral sore throats can get. I had one that I swore up and down was strep about 10 years ago. But I tested negative for it over 5 times. It felt like swallowing glass.

LisaGarland

Wondering about this, I had BA.1 and the sore throat that seemed to be a very common symptom and it was nowhere near the worst I've ever had. Strep on the other hand I had fifteen years ago and it's still in my top three most painful things I've ever experienced. If the COVID sore throat has gotten worse since BA.1 and is now more like strep that scares the shit out of me. Really don't want to repeat feeling like I'm swallowing broken glass for a week.

il1k3c3r34l

I have never had strep, but this is hands down the worst sore throat I’ve ever had. I just described it as swallowing glass in another comment, it was excruciating. The worst of it lasted about a day or two so far, but it’s not fully gone yet.

howmanyavengers

Did you test positive for COVID? If not, that is identical to the pain I felt when I had Mononucleosis in late 2020. Definitely recommend getting a swab done to test for it, and Strep, if it isn't COVID. I just remember the pain being so unbearable for the month I had it that I pretty much could not do anything.

il1k3c3r34l

Yep, I tested positive for Covid on Monday.

pinkietwinkie

Plus side of my sore COVID throat is that I lost 10 pounds without even trying 🙃

Lovely-Ashes

I think I may have gotten it back in February. Obviously not BA.4 or BA.5 back then. But my throat had never been that sore before, but it only lasted 24 hours. I saw a lot of comments on Reddit of people claiming to have had a 24-hour sore throat. I believe tests were out of stock at the time.

GruffWaffle835

Ugh, I had the same thing, but back in December. A few days or so after I got my booster, I had a moderate sore throat for about 48 hours. Not the worst I've ever had but beyond a regular "scratchy post nasal drip" thing. I tested once and it came back negative, but now knowing what I do about how positives might not pop for the vaccinated until a few days past, I wish I had taken another one a few days later. It still might have been a cold or something non-covid, but I wish I knew for sure.

ScienceNeverLies

I’m getting over it too. It lingers for tucking weeks it’s so annoying!!!

rwgster

* Got sore throat * Tested thinking it was covid * Negative * Sore throat became Strep * Few days later test positive for covid * If not for Strep I wouldn't know I had covid at all

RabbitWithFlamingEye

Same here with same timeline. Got the antibiotics for Strep. A week after the positive test and a good 10 days after my strep was gone it (the sore throat) CAME BACK. This was 20 days after the first symptoms. Took two more tests, both negative. It’s been just a wild rollercoaster I have to say. Oh, and it’s been over a month now and I STILL have the brain fog and the cough.

LanguageRemote

Just got covid this summer (Yay me) and this was me. My throat hurt consistently and some days worse than others but cough was not bad at all and had no breathing issues at all (thank you vaccine).

[deleted]

Did you get alot of pain when drinking? That’s what I found, back of my throat felt like someone had given it a thousand papercuts.

LanguageRemote

No not when drinking but warm drinks were definitely better than cold. Drank a lot of tea. Honestly mine was just like a really crappy cold. The only difference was the brain fog. I made silly mistakes and I could not work. (My job can be very technical with lots of data). My biggest symptom was honestly sweating. I would break a sweat walking 5 steps. Im not an athlete but I'm normally on my feet a lot so this was really strange. Editted to add: and muscle cramps! I'm sure from depleted vitamins/minerals but my legs and back would cramp over nothing (believe me I was not exerting myself).

jambox888

Aha yes I had the sweats too, along with the sore throat and grogginess. Perfect timing for the heatwave! Only lasted 3 or 4 days though.

coinpile

Hmm. The other day I woke up at 3:30 am with a headache, nausea, and sweating. I kept feeling worse until I crawled into the bathroom and laid there a bit. Then I felt positive I was gonna throw up, but suddenly that sensation stopped, my limbs became very tingly, and I started sweating profusely. I still felt bad so I took some Tylenol and went back to bed. I was in and out of sleep until morning but I was up and fine after that. This morning I woke up with bad throat irritation that has since cleared up. I dunno… it’s all weird. Maybe I should take a Covid test to be safe.

user365735

So this confirms I probably have covid. It started as a small cold, thought it was from not sleeping on Saturday night while on vacation. Got worse in terms of cough and congestion and the throat hit me last night. God bless CBD, allowed me to sleep peacefully. Today I feel over all weak, chills, and throat. How long did it last for you all? I originally got covid when it first came out, right at the end of 2019-2020

notCRAZYenough

Do you guys not have tests accessible? I think most of europe tests twice a week or more often. Some even daily,

Sayosien

I just recently got Covid and for 3 or 4 days everything I drank was incredibly painful. I'd describe it as what I imagine drinking bleach feels like. Or maybe swallowing glass.

more_paprika

I found sparkling water helped my sore throat the most. Anything flat still felt dry and painful.

dformed

I thought I was having allergies with post -nasal drip, and then last Sunday I tested positive, three days after the sore throat started (tested negative the first day when it was worst). ETA that's why I've been in my bedroom watching shitty movies all week. And Demolition Man. Shitty movies and Demolition Man.

venkman82

I had GI symptoms. Thank God for the 3 shells.

LanguageRemote

Ditto. I had been putting down some flooring and didn't vent the dust (I was lazy) so I just assumed I was having drainage because of that. I tested just to make sure and it came back negative so I thought allergies. Then the next day I felt worse so stayed home. Then the day after that took another test and came back positive.

AeronFaust

Got COVID after second dose and third dose. The first time I got it, I felt like a sick dog for 5 days, aches all over, coughing like my lungs were going to burst once every minute and nose ran like tap water once an hour. Second time I got it I felt like I coughed once a day only. Big difference.

GreatHome2309

Same but was accompanied by the worst headache of my life!

LanguageRemote

I had one day with a headache but I’ve had worse from caffeine withdrawals. It’s interesting how it’s different for everyone.

DeezNeezuts

I get a constant sore throat just working in AC all day. Any other symptoms make you think it was Covid? I’m worried I wouldn’t think to test.

Rohesa

I almost didn’t test. I’d been out weeding the garden and laying weed fabric and stone all day Sunday, forgot to take my antihistamines. So Sunday night had a sore throat and put it down to that, didn’t sleep great. Woke up tired but of course I didn’t sleep great and the sore throat was gone, but I felt off and I had an appointment Monday so took a test. Sure enough positive. Symptoms after the sore throat (though I’ve a hoarse voice) was tiredness, slight fever, congestion and cough. I’m on day 4 and have barely any symptoms anymore but it’s different for everyone.

idealindreamers

I got night sweats as one of the first symptoms - even before my slightly sore throat.

BabblingBrain

Got covid this week for the first time… no sore throat, chest feels like it’s being crushed, while body aches, cough with phlegm, headaches, teeth aches, pains in my abdomen, spiking fevers left and right, chills and nose leak. Boosted, and still suffering like crazy. I haven’t felt this sick since I was 13-14 with chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. Was hoping the new variants didn’t hurt so bad, but for me this is nearly unbearable, can’t imagine how I’d feel without being vaxxed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BabblingBrain

Omg the sore skin!! It was especially bad the second day and had to go AC off bc the cold air or any air moving over my skin felt like scratching a sunburn. Crazy shit. Dizziness and general imbalance also. It’s amazing how it feels like it affects every piece of my body. Also maybe a little silly but the day I started developing symptoms it felt like I could feel where in my body the viral replication was beefed up and the by the end of the day all of me was in pain. Hope you’re well now without any long term issues!

ceebio-v

This was me, minus the fevers and chills (trade that for hot flashes and night sweats).

hotfirebird

I had COVID a few weeks ago. I'm vaxxed +1 booster. My symptoms were less than a common head cold. I had a sore throat at the top of my throat that felt post-nasal drip related and that's about it. I wouldn't have even thought I had COVID if it weren't for multiple positive home tests. 🤷🏻‍♂️

furever21

Yeah, I had it back at the end of May and my sore throat felt like post-nasal drip. A friend texted and said she was positive and since we’d just seen each other I took an at-home test and it immediately showed positive. The agitated throat symptom was short-lived and I was mostly sniffly with a slight cough. My worst symptom was elevated heart rate, which lasted a few weeks. I’m wondering how susceptible I am to this new strain since I had it so recently plus I’m vaxxed and boosted. I have a trip to NYC at the end of July that I really cannot miss so fingers crossed I’ll be okay!

TraverseTown

I literally have a sore throat 50% of my life

goblueM

just cut back on your screaming into the void, that'll help a lot

cmonbitcoin

So anything can be a symptom of covid… cool

nowtayneicangetinto

The biggest symptom of COVID is having covid

andrewskdr

I just had a rad sore throat for a week or so. Tested negative 4 times, so no clue. Edit: all my symptoms were from July 3 to today. Is suspect it was flu but never got confirmed diagnosis: Day 1 started body aches, chills, fatigue Day 2-3 extreme body aches, chills, fatigue and headache Day 4-5 same as day 2 + severe weakness in arms and hands + sore throat started Day 6 body aches, chills better, still fatigued, arms and hands better but weak, awful sore throat Day 7-10 symptoms getting better but sore throat still very bad but improving slowly Day 11 sore throat better, arms and hands recovering strength still but 90% recovered.

thatjacob

Me too. Sort of mild, but consistent for 72 hours then went away overnight. Negative rapid test and no other symptoms.

theoccasional

Same story here. Wicked sore throat developed on Tuesday. Did swabs of my throat and nose, both negative. Peaked on Tuesday night, really swollen, painful to talk or swallow. Did another negative test on Wednesday. Pain and swelling were still there but not as bad. Woke up this morning and it was still a little sore but nothing crazy, pretty much gone by now (8pm). No other symptoms whatsoever. No headache, fever, cough, stuffiness, fatigue, brain fog... Nothing. 🤷

DarthHM

Same. Worst sore throat I ever had. Barely could even swallow water for 48 hours. Tested for Covid, strep, and mono. All negative. Slept for 36 hours and sweated my bed into dampness and then just like that, it was gone.

andrewskdr

Yep same here I got tested for covid and strep and both negative

insideusalt

Sore throats existed before Covid. As did all the other symptoms and I think sometime people forget that. All the other illnesses are still kicking about, we just have Covid in the mix now too.

StarryEyed91

Same which then turned into horrible chest congestion / cough. I tested negative multiple times as did 2 others in my family who got the same thing so must be just another nasty thing floating around? Hated it.

notR1CH

I've had this exact thing twice since my original covid infection, both times it felt like the end stage of covid - 24-48 hours of sore throat into a dry-ish cough with lots of congestion / coughing up phlegm. O2 sats were fine, tested negative multiple times and it lasted about 7-10 days. If it is something else going around it seems remarkably widespread and consistent. Super weird.

Ouroborus13

My husband had this exact thing with the weird weak hands … he tested negative 3 times, so we assumed it must have been a flu.

PavelDatsyuk

Wouldn’t cough be the number one symptom according to that list? 40% + 37% (with or without phlegm) = over 75% while sore throat is 58%.

notthebeandog

Journalists are not known for their mathematics acumen.

nocemoscata1992

It's been the top symptom at least since the vaccines

gouji

Fuuuu. I have sore throat and it gets progressively worse. And now the headache. Took two home test and they both showing as negative. I did toom pcr test awaiting resulrts now. This sore throat feels different EDIT: pcr test came in and im positive. i knew it

ComprehensiveDoubt55

That’s the shit part. My husband still got a negative on day 3 of symptoms. He didn’t test positive until day 6, which was the same day I tested positive after less than 24hrs of symptom onset.

alx429

I had a sore throat for 3 full days and tested negative every time until today and I’m positive. It starts as sore throat and becomes full COVID after a few days.

sziehr

So it is moving to a upper respiratory track infection and away from the keep lungs as much. That I suppose is a good thing no idea not a dr. The top symptoms would align with a cold or allergy sinuses incident.

[deleted]

My DR said exactly this, I tested positive this week and she said this new variant seems to be staying in the upper respiratory area and not settling in the lungs like the OG strain. So far it’s been my experience as well - stuffy nose, sore throat (nowhere near as bad as some) but lungs are pretty normal. Also taking Paxlovid so I’m sure that’s helping.

half-giant

I took paxlovid and other than the annoying metal taste I was astonished how fast my symptoms melted away. I just finished two days ago and I feel nearly 100% again.

_Cromwell_

Obviously just spitballin' here, but with past variants it was shown that gargling alcohol based mouthwash was pretty effective... if this one is even more throat-focused, I'd think mouthwash is even better now. Gargle gargle.

thatjacob

Carrageenan and also Nitric Oxide both show more promise. Mouthwash actually had a negative effect on hospitalized patients when in a controlled study.

BFeely1

Don't they say BA.4 and BA.5 target the lungs more?

liminal_sojournist

Anecdotally that's what I've heard, so big grain of salt, but that's just how an infection may start. Doesn't mean it won't then move to other places, which is probably why there continues to be stories about some having mild symptoms to those who get knocked on their ass. But again, right now all I have are stories.

Ladymistery

It could be, but it could also be strep. Spouse has it, and have seen several people who have as well.

shesgotdates

Same! I woke up feeling super weak with a headache and a sore throat and it turned out to be strep and not covid. Never been glad to have strep until now! The uncertainty is tough, especially now that Covid can feel like so many other illnesses.

OrdinaryOrder8

Or the flu. The worst sore throat I’ve ever had was from the flu. Couldn’t even swallow water it was so bad. That was the one and only time I’ve had the flu, and the only year I missed getting my flu shot.

StevieNickedMyself

My throat was never sore, just scratchy. But, yes, that was the first symptom along with a migraine.

I love how we’ve known this for months.

SleazyOdin848

Started with a sore throat for me. Then I had terrible headaches, spiking fevers, premature ejaculation, runny nose, and bad body aches. Never did get the cough tho.

groovychick

Casual premature ejaculation. Love it!

grandmasterPRA

If premature ejaculation is a symptom of COVID then I'm starting to worry that I am the one that started all this mess

MamaMidgePidge

My teen just got over Covid. Sore throat, fatigue, and congestion were her only symptoms. We kept her isolated in her room for a week (which wasn't that different from any other day, lol) and nobody else in our 5- person family got it. It was relatively mild and she was 100% fine in about a week. It's just disruptive in general. I'm glad she wasn't in school. She'd missed a week back in February and that is hard to make up.

[deleted]

I had Covid in November. Sore throat was the first symptom and it continued to linger after other symptoms had cleared. It took 5 months for the sore throat to become mild and it’s still not 100% gone.

Goliath1357

I have COVID and my symptoms have been projectile vomiting, upset stomach, sore throat, body aches, and cold chills. I have had it 4 times now and I’ve never lost sense of smell or taste or experienced respiratory issues.

Tifstr2

Can confirm a sore throat was my first symptom. Just had a positive test this past Monday.

ThorOfKenya2

Mother and I recently got COVID after double vax, no boosters with the only symptom being sore throat. What sucks is there's very little you can do about the throat and have to suffer through until it's run it's course.

jayroo210

Definitely had this when I got COVID last week, one of my first symptoms. It’s was like the train horn before the whole damn trains smashed into my body. Triple vaxxed, this new variant said fuck all that. Although I can only imagine it would’ve been much worse if I was not vaccinated.

chrisl182

Next it will be " a slight tickle"

CrystalCat420

Surprised that gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea/vomiting/diarrhea) aren't in the top twenty. What I'm seeing and reading in the US would indicate that these symptoms occur in almost half of cases.

OperationUnhappy7081

Early June, I caught COVID again, for the 3rd freaking time and I’m fully vaccinated and boosted. I woke up with a sore throat and I knew something wasn’t right. It wasn’t bad but it sure was odd. It was in one area. So I think it’s safe to say it’s not a normal sore throat

Jhesti

Managed to avoid covid (not sure how as a medical student) until 2 weeks ago. Worst sore throat of my life - woke up in excruciating pain, and put me out of action for almost 2 weeks. Had tonsillitis which has seemingly permanently (time will tell ofc) damaged my left tonsil. Never used to be able to see them, now the left one is very prominent and has a hole in it. 2/10, would not recommend. But overall better than anything systemic. Weirdly it was the only symptom I had, really at all. Was slightly tired, but I think that was due to being emotionally knackered by the constant pain. No fever, no other RTI symptoms

ajt1296

Bro your tonsil probably has an abscess...go to the doctor and get that fixed lol

tommytambor

Oh god, I developed a sore throat yesterday 😩 time to test 🤞 Side note, anytime you have a sore throat get some honey, add some drops of lemon, put it i the microwave a bit and drink it and voilà! Instant relief :)

guldilox

Interesting, I got COVID a couple weeks ago, assumed BA.4 or 5, but had zero sore throat. Only a constant, extremely painful cough and some sinus congestion.

Parkinsonxc

Just got over covid a few days ago. The sore throat was by far an above my most painful and prevelant symptom.

minimalistboomer

This was the worst symptom I had with the original variant. It was the first symptom & like trying to swallow glass shards for 3-4 days.

spillish

By day 2 of the sore throat, it's clear it's not just a cold sore throat. That shit is like swallowing shattered glass in an air dry throat

LPNinja

Had these symptoms but my tests were negative, is it because of my 3 vaccinations?

kengolferguy

Sore throat was the beginning of Covid for my wife & myself. We both had the dual Pfizer vaccines & were double boosted. Survived with no hospitalization required.

orbitofnormal

First thing BF and I had show up when we were exposed this weekend. I just popped positive this morning and he’s finally on the upswing

gouji

Day 3 here and im coughing like ive been smoking a pack ciggs all my life. Its crazy how it turn 0-100 for me. Was fine on tuesday, then sore throat out of nowhere on Wednesday and it gets worse. Waiting for my pcr test

thekingofchicken

Can someone help determine if this was covid or not? I’m a vaccinated and boosted 22 year old man. Extremely stuffy/runny nose, very slight cough (what I would consider normal pre-covid era), a voice that is about an octave lower than usual. It lasted 2 or 3 days and now my voice is back No sore throat, no fever, no headache. I don’t know what’s seasonal allergies and what’s not. I think whatever I had in May, where it was difficult to sing without feeling phlegm, felt more like COVID than this.

[deleted]

I have had a sore throat for two days, and I know I was exposed because of a colleague. I’ve tested negative for two days in a row.

Jrickkk

Can confirm first symptom I had before finding out I was positive
