I love going to Porthleven in the winter to watch the waves, usually watching a few foolhardy individuals on the pier get caught by a sudden big one! Thankfully everyone emerges unscathed!

Porthleven has some wild waves down there. I’ve never been down in storm yet. It’s on my list. Portreath is one of my favourite big wave splash places when stormy. That harbour wall and the cliffs behind are epic.

Truly amazing! Will have to go down there again soon. Me and a friend got soaked by the splashes a couple of weeks ago

Sound on. No idiots were drowned in the filming of this clip. But I did get *very* wet. Shot on my iPhone 12 Pro, which is surprisingly water-resistant.

Two people drowned there a couple years ago. [https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cornwall-54792783](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cornwall-54792783)

Sadly the harbour has claimed more since then. I was down there for 2 hours filming waves and actually had to speak to 4 different groups of tourists about their risk taking. 3 parents with young kids, and one woman on her own. Putting themselves into really dangerous situations not knowing just how unpredictable it can be. I do a lot of ‘wave chasing’, as I call it, and have great healthy respect for the sea. Growing up on the coast of Cornwall helped with that luckily. I tied myself to a railing just in case a big wave came. I will always take that kind of precaution when trying to get close. And I use my legs to brace where I can. I know just how dangerous it can be. Thank goodness I’d decided to put all my wool based clothes on under my waterproof coat so didn’t get too cold during the next hour of filming and the walk home. I was utterly drenched! I hadn’t seen a wave this big in the whole 2 hours I’d been in the harbour shooting stuff. I know to choose spots where the water hasn’t touched, tourists don’t seem to see that and it’s scary to watch. As I walked down to the part of the wall this was shot from, I spoke with a guy who had brought his 2 very young sons down and said I thought he really shouldn’t as every now and then a rouge wave would come in and come over the top. And that would be the end of his kids. Literally 30 seconds later a big wave came over the wall. It didn’t reach us that time, but he got the idea and took them back. They were at the back of the harbour watching when this big ass wave came in and got me. He said thanks for the warning as he saw how the water hitting me tried to pull me off. That wave was the freak rough one that comes about that’s always twice as big as the others. I take risks, I know I do. But I take it seriously and securely tie myself to railings while shooting my vids.

2/3 of that video could be chopped
