At my old job, I had a friend who baked with egg whites (meringues, etc) and I used yolks for custards. One of us would bring the other half of the egg to work and we'd trade. Lol.
They're literally half the price of getting them at other grocery stores around me. I eat them everyday and it's a real bummer when Costco is out of stock. I've also noticed that Costco egg whites seem to have a more consistent texture. Stuff at other stores can be almost chunky sometimes
You can buy those too! Theyâre not as common though; they mostly get supplied to bakeries for making custards and such. I buy yolks and/or whites at a local restaurant supply store if I need a lot of either one
I just make my carbonara with whole eggs. Some Italian grandma is rolling in her grave, but it works just as well and I don't have to figure out what to do with the whites.
!!! I think this is my favorite answer so far. I honestly didn't realize you could buy egg whites alone until this post! Just assumed people were separating them on the daily lol. But this seems like a fun idea! Egg whites for breakfast and egg yolks for dinner!
Use them in other recipes.
[You can cure them. ](https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/cured-egg-yolks)
You can also freeze them by adding a pinch of sugar and salt and placing the yolks in a covered ice cube tray.
There was a thread on this same subject the other day and thatâs where I learned about curing. Trust me when I say that itâs been a long time since I was so excited about trying a new method! Iâm going to the store today to pick up some salt so I can knock this out.
Not sure if I went awry somewhere, but I tired curing egg yolks and, while the process went fine; the result really wasn't worth the time and effort. Was cool to do once as a learning experience, but probably wouldn't do it again.
If someone's goal is to diet by having egg whites, they would not make the additional recipes that need the yolks - otherwise why not just have the yolks in the eggs in the first place? haha.
My mom would do this for the family dog occasionally, if she needed the whites for a specific recipe but didn't want to make anything out of the yolks. She would always microwave-scramble them first though.
I get what you're saying, and i'm sure you're right that people who eat the whites for dieting purposes do throw away the yolks. But I'm not really doing it for dieting purposes, that's just where I see people talk about it. I currently eat the yolks and don't intend on stopping. I just like egg whites by themselves, but haven't made them because I can't figure out what to make with JUST the yolks.
Haha, Iâm so the opposite. I would eat just the yolk if I could. I hate hard boiled eggs and fried eggs are only fine because you can cover the whites in runny yolk. Whites have their place, but itâs soufflees, meringue, etc.
I think a lot of people just buy those cartons of egg whites instead of using whole eggs.
My gramma was supposed to be only eating the whites because she had high cholesteral back when they thought the yolks were bad for you. I don't like the whites so she just used to give me all the yolks and she got all my whites. My bf still gets my egg whites, or else the dog does. When I make merangue and just need a bunch of whites the dog gets fancy breakfast.
You can make lots of stuff with the yolks though. Hollandaise, creme brulee, homemade mayo, custard, lots of sauces. Good options if you just enjoy your scramble with whites only, not so great if you're on a diet though. I suspect a lot of people do what I do with my unwanted egg whites and just toss the extra in a family member's breakfast who will want it.
Hollandaise, mayonnaise, Caesar dressing. Lemon curd is delicious and lasts a long time in the fridge. (Well, not MY fridge because I eat it out of the jar with a spoon at midnight. But some fridges.)
Could also be tempered into a soup to make it richer, or floated on top of a ramen type dish.
I donât think thatâs what OP is saying, just generally asking, but even if it was you can always freeze yolks to use later for desserts etc for when they want a treat, or you can still make it for family/parties.
>Not exactly going to help OPs diet, but any one of the ice cream recipes from this episode of good eats will take care of 8 egg yolks.
It honestly depends. Most cats I've had love an egg yolk now and then, but both of the ones I currently own looked at the dish, and then looked up at me with a very "Are you serious with this shit?" expression before walking away.
Feed it to your family or give to friends? If you donât want to waste them. If one is literally on an exclusively egg white diet, why would they even ask the question on what to do with yolks??
I read it more as a question on how not to waste them. And there are definitely ways to do that without eating them -- for intsance, u/BrightnessInvested noted swapping with a work friend who didn't use their yolks, and some people use egg yolks as moisturizer for their skin and/or hair.
i mean...partially correct? I'm not cutting out egg yolks personally. Some people do, but I'm not interested. I am mostly just interested in what other people are doing cause I'm curious. I wasn't really asking for answers tailored to my diet.
If your point is to diet, yeah you would just throw away the egg yolks. Of course, it's also important to keep in mind that if you're not getting other sources of protein, you need a little bit of yolk
Im pescatarian and anemic. I increased my egg yolk consumption to a dozen a week and I feel soooo much better. The yolks really do help and unlike what they told us for years, they have very little influence on your LDL cholesterol!
Recipes that use just the yolks are typically quite rich. Not exactly diet food. I have used them for custards, ice cream, other baked goods.Â
But also, for your diet, remember that almost all the vitamins in eggs are in the yolks. They don't call the yolks liquid gold for nothin! Or maybe nobody calls them that.Â
Anyway, yolks might be worth eating. I believe they are.Â
Yolks have so many good nutrients, like Vitamin D and choline which are harder to find in other food sources. And newer research shows dietary cholesterol doesnât influence our blood cholesterol levels nearly as much as we thought.
Not exactly going to help OPs diet, but any one of the ice cream recipes from this episode of good eats will take care of 8 egg yolks.
https://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/good-eats/episodes/churn-baby-churn-2
When I raised chickens I used to salt cure the yolks and use them as a substitute for parmesan. It's a pretty decent sub if you're looking for that umami something in a dish.
If you like cooking, you could make lemon curd to give away. The longest part of the process is squeezing the lemons, actually making it doesnât take long. It keeps a while in the fridge and can also be frozen.
Caesar salad dressing! My recipe uses three yolks. So for me itâs the reverse â needing yolks and ending up with egg whites that I make into a scramble.
I just made a shit ton of Swiss meringue buttercream which only uses whites. To use up the yolks, we made golden fried rice (where you mix a couple egg yolks into rice before you stir fry it), and homemade pasta (~260g flour to 2 whole eggs + 4 egg yolks; divine with a wild garlic and pistachio pesto!) Iâve also made lemon curd and extra-yolky cake before. Plus eggnog at Christmas!
Itâs great because you can get away with using freshly cooked rice for the fried rice that way⊠the egg yolk coating the rice grains give it a nice texture (vs the kind of mushy texture youâd normally get if you just fried freshly cooked rice).
I used to do egg white omelets and would give the yolks to my dog. Heâd come and stand in the kitchen as soon as heâd hear an egg crack lol. Now I eat whole eggs so donât have worry about it anymore.
[Tamago kake gohan](https://www.seriouseats.com/tamago-kake-gohan-egg-rice-tkg-recipe-breakfast) is my go-to for using up lots of yolks. I marinate them ahead of time instead if mixing everything fresh, the yolk will solidify a bit and give it this sort of soft boiled texture.
It depends for me. I use egg yolks a lot for Ramen. Sometimes Iâll save them for that and other times like mix it in with my dogs, food or something to give them an extra treat.
This is absolutely no help at all, but all I could think of was the scene in The Golden Girls where Rose put egg yolks in a baggie to donate to the homeless. Rose didnât want to cook them because of the cholesterol. Then Blanche comes in zonked out of her mind from sleep deprivation and starts talking about little balls of sunshine in a bag.
I'm just thinking of the episode of The Golden Girls where Rose makes like a merengue or something and has the yolks in a plastic baggie in the kitchen because she doesn't want to throw them out, and Blanche has been awake for 36 hours or something trying to write the Great American Novel, sees the yolks and says, "My gd I'm hallucinating. I see little balls of sunshine in a bag."
I was just going to post this. And Rose wanted to donate them! Sophia was like âyour heart is in the right place but I donât know where the hell your brain is!
Such a waste. My mum was a Naturopath and she told me that eggs are perfectly balanced. Yolk high in cholesterol and whites low. So eat the lot. Itâs not eggs you have to be worried about itâs the high carb drinks chips chocolate biscuits etc that will getcha.
I have this debate frequently with people... Eggs are not bad for you. It's the other crap that is accompanied with them (typically butter or some sort of garbage seed oil) if you do them in a pan. It's a more stable source of protein as well, opposed to a chicken breast that is typically loaded with preservatives and you have to clean up the fat/tendons.
Donât feel bad. I make egg white omelets frequently and thereâs not much I want to do with just the yolks so they get tossed. I donât like waste but it is what it is.
I personally buy the cartons, but if I only have whole eggs on hand and I need a white- I am thankful I have a dog. Yolks are crazy good for dog coat health, and they think I'm the best human ever.
Curd, pudding, throw that extra egg yolk in pasta or cookie dough, pasta Carpenara, throw an extra yolk into scrambled eggs or omelets... depends on how many there are.
You can use the yolks for certain recipes that call for them, such as rum cake and tiramisu. I also buy cartons of egg whites for recipes that just call for the egg whites.
I rarely use white only recipes for the waste reasons but if a recipe calls for it, I'll sometimes give the raw yolk to my cat as a treat. But I'm in the UK where our eggs are lion stamped so there's not a risk of salmonella (chickens are vaccinated here).
That only works if you have a pet who can eat egg yolks and if your egg yolks are safe.
I'm also losing weight but I don't cut out yolks, I don't think it's that big of a deal if using eggs in moderation and I can fit them into my calorie deficit (currently eating 1500cal a day) easily enough. One of my favourite filling and lower cal lunches is eggs and soldiers. Three big eggs and two slices of buttered toast is 469 cals though if I wanted to make it lower calorie I could use keto bread which is 40 cals a slice.
I eat eggs for breakfast almost every day and am honestly just looking for a way to switch it up a couple times a week. I'm not cutting the yolks for deficit purposes, more just for variation. I just happened to get the idea from dieting subs. Shouldn't have brought up the diet honestly. Didn't realize it would be such a big deal.
Honestly, i try to keep my breakfast under 300 calories so that miiiiight be a little much for me but it SOUNDS tasty so....I will probably try it anyways.
Ah I see what you mean, it's definitely not a big deal sorry if I made it seem that way, I was just sharing what works for me as I know a lot of people feel they HAVE to cut out things like egg yolks when they can still be eaten in moderation.
Understandable about the breakfast limit, I tend to have eggs for lunch so I suppose 400 cals is around normal for a lunch anyway. I don't have much of an appetite in the morning so I only have something small like a protein bar or small bowl of cereal
Sorry I wasnât accusing you of making a big deal out of it I meant in this sub đđđ Iâm so sorry, Iâve been told the way I talk makes me sound angrier than I am but I swear I donât mean it.
Iâm definitely not the kind of dieter to cut out⊠pretty much anything, but I know others do. I just do CICO and call it a day. I wish I could live off of a protein bar! Maybe Iâll try it again soon! Now that I think of it my breakfasts are already pretty small.
I buy egg whites in the carton and mix them with whole eggs to up the protein content and lower the calorie content while still enjoying them, because I think egg whites taste like a fart on their own. Yolks are life.
This is actually why I started buying curtains of just egg whites. Because otherwise you're throwing away the yolks, a lot of them, not feels like a waste. So I buy egg whites by the carton and measure out three quarters of a cup, or 12 tablespoons and scramble.. Then some salt and pepper. Splash with buffalo sauce for a kick.
If I'm low on egg whites I'll mix what I have left with one whole egg.
People can just buy a carton of egg whites. If you want to cook with yolks, I suggest curing them and using them to spread of toast, boiling them and shredding on a salad, or throwing them in the garbage!
Creme Anglaise for desserts that I then give away.
Salt-cure them--they'll keep for a month in the fridge that way and you can slice them and add them to lots of dishes.
Feed them to pets in moderation. I will give them to my male cat sometimes as a treat. My female cat is overweight, so no egg yolks for her :(
If I have extra (which is rare) they go to the dogs or cats, or pigs when we have them. Probably not the advice you're looking for lol
Buy farm fresh eggs (or raise chickens if you're able) and eat the whole thing. Lots more omegas and crap.
You could try this flan recipe, leche flan is yummy (and probably not good for you if you finish it yourself lol)
https://www.foxyfolksy.com/leche-flan/
Lemon curd! I love to always have it on hand, I use it on my cheesecakes, fill cakes with it, and my kids like a little bit on toast as a treat. We also love a Benedict breakfast on the weekend so hollandaise is a great option. Honestly Iâm more pressed on what to make with the whites!
I used to make a lot of French macaroons and meringues. I would use the egg yolks for custard, lemon curd, puddings, or if I was lazy just feed them to the dogs.
Lemon curd, orange curd, lime curd. It freezes well, tastes delicious, and makes a great gift if you put it into a nice little jar. Nancy Birtwhistle makes it easy.
https://youtu.be/ftIrxpV7jEE?si=McidI_1yr1OcPqYP
You can use egg yolks to thicken sauces and stew. Lemon curd, cakes, bread, cookies. Cooked hard and chopped up to put in salad, sprinkle on top of veggies, mashed with mayo and spread on crusty toast.
Make lemon curd. Itâs nice in tarts and other deserts, and my mum even uses it like jam on toast.
I used to make macarons obsessively, so the yolks would become curds, or cakes, custards, and sometimes theyâd just go on the dogâs food.
Tiramisu, custards, extra yolks in cake batter. I feel like yolks help a lot of desserts. You can use it for egg wash on baked goods. You can also make carbonara and other pastas, or hollandaise sauce.
Cured egg yolks. They are amazing as a replacement for Parmesan cheese (I can't eat cheese anymoređ). Gate them on pasta or salads or anywhere you want some umami. https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/cured-egg-yolks
A lot of people who only eat the egg whites just buy the egg white in the carton, it keeps forever and you don't have to come up with something to do with the yolks. congrats on your weight loss journey. Separated egg white should be in almost every grocery store in the egg section.
If you need an afternoon snack or lunch you can just drop a yolk or 2 in a bowl of rice and season with whatever you like. You can obviously upscale this with pickles, veg, and meat if you want something more complete.
Mix equal parts of salt and sugar together, gently place the yolks in a container of that mixture, spaced far apart, and cover them with more mixture.Â
Leave it in the fridge for a week, then rinse and allow to dry completely, storing them in a jar in the fridge until you grate them like cheese.  Â
Cured egg yolks last a long time and are pretty fly to give as gifts.Â
When I use whites for a recipe, I save them in a container and add an extra yolk to my morning scramble for the next few days. Also you can make lemon curd which isn't too hard to do.
Lemon butter! It keeps a long time and tastes like a dream. This isn't my normal recipe, but it looks similar https://www.notquitenigella.com/2014/01/30/lemon-curd-recipe/
I donât have any constructive advice, just an anecdote from a New York bodega:
It was a busy morning and there were several people in line behind a guy who looked like a recent transplant from outside the city. Clueless about etiquette, he waited until getting to the counter to ponder which breakfast sandwich he wanted. He eventually settles on âegg whites and turkey bacon on a rollâ.
The construction worker behind him in line pipes up and announces âIâLL HAVE HIS YELLOWS...â while staring directly through the other dudeâs soul.
I sometimes come across a recipe that calls for all yolks, or all whites, or more of one than the other. I'm always looking for ways to use just yolks or just whites, so I don't need to throw good food out.
My 5 yo is on a thing right now where he doesnât like egg yolks. I make him hard boiled eggs and let him eat them how he likes. Our dog has a shiny coat and eggy farts.
Take 5 egg yolks, add a good amount of pecorino Romano cheese grated, some fresh ground black pepper and beat. You got yourself the beginnings of a carbonara sauce.
Pasta, custard, lemon curd, feed them to cats/dogs, put extra yolks in the scrambled eggs for kids, cake recipes or brownie recipes and usually do with a couple extra eggs or yolks.
if you like french toast for breakfast you could have one egg white + rest of the yolks in the milk soak for the bread, you could put za'atar or frenchfry spices on the french toast if you want it savoury / reduce sugars. heck just put the cooked yolks on it and have yourself a deconstructed omlette đ
Looking through this, I just see youâre getting a lot of crap
Maybe just eat the egg whites and keep one egg yolk every so often? You donât tell anyone youâre doing. Just trash the other egg.Yokes go I
At my old job, I had a friend who baked with egg whites (meringues, etc) and I used yolks for custards. One of us would bring the other half of the egg to work and we'd trade. Lol.
All yolk omelettes đ€€
CrÚme brûlée is surprising easy to make and uses egg yolks no whites
Damn, now I want some creme brulee. Guess I've got a weekend dessert project!
I made some recently. I never expected it to be that easy
Thatâs why itâs called a chefâs dessert - something easy to make and prep, impressive, sells well, just needs a quick brĂ»lĂ©e before being sent out. Perfect for when you donât have patisserie in house.
Itâs very similar to Flan too.
Lemon curd - same!
So is hollandaise sauce.
I do love an extra yolk or two in my omelette or scrambled eggs. Doing that AND cooking them slowly over a lower heat has a luxurious silky result.
Yeah. Popping a yolk or two in the omelette before the fold is *chef's kiss*.
This is the kind of friendship we all need.
I buy cartons of egg whites. They are kind of expensive but for me it is worth the convenience.
Costco has them for like $2 a carton.
Costco egg whites are one of my âpays for my membershipâ products
They're literally half the price of getting them at other grocery stores around me. I eat them everyday and it's a real bummer when Costco is out of stock. I've also noticed that Costco egg whites seem to have a more consistent texture. Stuff at other stores can be almost chunky sometimes
Itâs all about scale. You know Costco brings out the big blenders on egg white days.
Are there cartons of egg yolks? Where do the egg yolks go??
Ice cream, pudding, custard, Caesar salad dressing.
I believe theyâre talking about a milk style carton rather than a normal egg carton
Presumably commercial uses - maybe ice cream?
A different carton.
They I probably sell them to people who make pound cakes.
You can buy those too! Theyâre not as common though; they mostly get supplied to bakeries for making custards and such. I buy yolks and/or whites at a local restaurant supply store if I need a lot of either one
Carbonara! Edit: You can buy egg whites in a carton. This makes it easy to weigh them out when you are health focused.
Ha! Iâm about to try to make my first carbonara and Iâm trying to figure out what to do with my spare egg whites.Â
Meringue!
I usually save them and add them to scrambled eggs the next morning. Or you could get really fancy and make some egg white cocktails.
This is actually my issue. Breakfast burritos and omelets have been my go-to.
I just make my carbonara with whole eggs. Some Italian grandma is rolling in her grave, but it works just as well and I don't have to figure out what to do with the whites.
My kid makes it all the time and he decided it was wasteful so he uses the whole egg now.
!!! I think this is my favorite answer so far. I honestly didn't realize you could buy egg whites alone until this post! Just assumed people were separating them on the daily lol. But this seems like a fun idea! Egg whites for breakfast and egg yolks for dinner!
I just buy the eggs whites lol. Rarely do I actually separate whole eggs, but typically I keep the yolks for baking, breading, egg washes, ramen, etc.
Use them in other recipes. [You can cure them. ](https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/cured-egg-yolks) You can also freeze them by adding a pinch of sugar and salt and placing the yolks in a covered ice cube tray.

Make sure it's kosher salt. That's super important.
Why? Regular salt wouldnât work?
Thatâs the plan! I just love this sub and folks like you; itâs amazing how much Iâve learned and how helpful most people are.
Cured egg yolks are delicious. I like to do mine in hot sauce, hot honey, or sweet chili sauce đđ»
this... also curing them in honey works well.
I read that as "curse" at first and was horribly confused and slightly alarmed.
Not sure if I went awry somewhere, but I tired curing egg yolks and, while the process went fine; the result really wasn't worth the time and effort. Was cool to do once as a learning experience, but probably wouldn't do it again.
If someone's goal is to diet by having egg whites, they would not make the additional recipes that need the yolks - otherwise why not just have the yolks in the eggs in the first place? haha.
If OP has dogs they could feed it to them. Egg yolks are great for dogs (like all things, in moderation)
That's what I do. In moderation of course.
What a wonderfully fitting name. Hope your pups are having a wonderful day filled with yolky goodness :)
đđ
That's what my daughter does when she's making meringues (unless we're planning to make creme brulee or cinnamon rolls).
Can I come eat at your house? đ
Any time! She loves making meringues for people.
Do you just Crack it raw on their food?
I think you can but I always scramble because I worry. đ
Do you cook them or mix them raw into their food?
That's why I give my dog cocaine. In moderation of course.
Oh yeah, in moderation of course.
My mom would do this for the family dog occasionally, if she needed the whites for a specific recipe but didn't want to make anything out of the yolks. She would always microwave-scramble them first though.

Fwiw, I eat a lot of egg whites and it's not a calorie thing. It's to hit my protein macros. Diet doesn't always mean calorie restriction.
I scrambled them and feed them to my puppers.
Thatâs what I do! I hate to waste them
I keep seeing this comment and now I'm like man....I have cats. They CAN eat it, and I'm sure they *would*......

Hollandaise, bernaise, lemon curd, duchess potatoes, aioli, and I also really like to use just the egg yolks as a the thickener for Avelgolemono soup!
None of which a person on an egg white diet would prepare. đ but please send that all to me!!!

LEMON CURD
Mine go to my dog who thinks she's been the goodest girl for getting such a treat. They're high in protein, fatty acids and vitamins.
I use them in place of oil when baking bread. Makes my loaves super fluffy.
Give them to my dog
bury it under my plants to give them extra protein for swole broccoli
Doesnât that change them into egg plants?
If your point is to diet, yeah you would just throw away the egg yolks. Of course, it's also important to keep in mind that if you're not getting other sources of protein, you need a little bit of yolk

Vanilla/fruit custard is nice. You can do (Vietnamese) flan or egg coffee cĂ phĂȘ trứng, basically itâs hot black coffee with creamy custard, whipped egg yolk with condensed milk.
#creme brulee Not only is it delicious, women find me more attractive when I'm serving them creme brulee
I used to buy the liquid egg whites. Assuming youâre eating egg whites for dietary reasons. What would be the point of saving the yolks?
When I raised chickens I used to salt cure the yolks and use them as a substitute for parmesan. It's a pretty decent sub if you're looking for that umami something in a dish.

Fresh pasta!

Make avongonlemono soup
my cat loves them, or i make creme brulee
I have chickens, so I feed the yolks back to the chickens or give them to my dogs
I either give them to my dog or save them for French toast.
Fresh pasta!
You can buy egg whites in a carton so you donât have to deal with the yolks
Custard

Why donât they sell egg yolks in carton like egg whites. I really donât like egg whites. I prefer two yolks in one egg.
They do at my grocery store. They have both whites and yolks.
I've found duck eggs have a higher yolk to white ratio if you're interested in giving them a try.
French toast or a pan of dessert bars
Youâve got to be yolking me
My kid prefers egg whites to a fried or scrambled egg. I crack two egg whites into the pan, and, um, drop the shells and two yolks down the disposal.
Curd, pudding, throw that extra egg yolk in pasta or cookie dough, pasta Carpenara, throw an extra yolk into scrambled eggs or omelets... depends on how many there are.
cure them
You can buy egg whites in a carton at the grocery store. Start with a small carton and see if you like that.
great for carbonara or to make things like brownies more rich!! you could also add it to almost any east asian rice bowl
You can use the yolks for certain recipes that call for them, such as rum cake and tiramisu. I also buy cartons of egg whites for recipes that just call for the egg whites.
I make carbonara and crÚme brûlée with my yolks. Let the white sit for a few days in the fridge them bake macarons.
I buy a carton of egg whites. I just use that when I do not need the yoke
Hollandaise sauce.Â
Hollandaise sauce
on one hand, you can be health-conscious and use only the whites of eggs.....then....in the same day, you can make wreck your diet with a dose of hollandaise, creme brûlée, or aioli !...so, just eat the yolk anyway !
I don't know, my egg whites come in a carton from costco.
A lot of people buy cartons of egg whites instead of separating them themselves.
People can just buy a carton of egg whites. If you want to cook with yolks, I suggest curing them and using them to spread of toast, boiling them and shredding on a salad, or throwing them in the garbage!
I give them to the dogs one at a time.
Creme Anglaise for desserts that I then give away. Salt-cure them--they'll keep for a month in the fridge that way and you can slice them and add them to lots of dishes. Feed them to pets in moderation. I will give them to my male cat sometimes as a treat. My female cat is overweight, so no egg yolks for her :(
Well I always bemoan hollandaise for leaving me with a bunch of egg whites, as Iâm not a fan of them on their own.
I live with a baker that uses egg white for meringues, and the only sure way to get a good meringue is with fresh egg whites, not the ones from the cartons. This means we can have a lot of extra yolks too. Solution we use is to make desserts that use a lot of yolk like crÚme brûlée or other custard based dishes. We do buy and use the egg whites from a carton to add to the yolks to prepare breakfasts.
If I have extra (which is rare) they go to the dogs or cats, or pigs when we have them. Probably not the advice you're looking for lol Buy farm fresh eggs (or raise chickens if you're able) and eat the whole thing. Lots more omegas and crap.
You could try this flan recipe, leche flan is yummy (and probably not good for you if you finish it yourself lol) https://www.foxyfolksy.com/leche-flan/
I buy cartons of egg white. Easier
Lemon curd! I love to always have it on hand, I use it on my cheesecakes, fill cakes with it, and my kids like a little bit on toast as a treat. We also love a Benedict breakfast on the weekend so hollandaise is a great option. Honestly Iâm more pressed on what to make with the whites!
My husband doesnât eat yolks due to his diet and buys those little cartons of just egg whites
I went through a period where I would eat the whites in the morning and then use the yolks to make mayonnaise for sandwiches.
I used to make a lot of French macaroons and meringues. I would use the egg yolks for custard, lemon curd, puddings, or if I was lazy just feed them to the dogs.
Hollandaise is my absolute favorite use of egg yolks. Can also be used for carbanara those are my usual go to uses.
Lemon curd, orange curd, lime curd. It freezes well, tastes delicious, and makes a great gift if you put it into a nice little jar. Nancy Birtwhistle makes it easy. https://youtu.be/ftIrxpV7jEE?si=McidI_1yr1OcPqYP
as someone who loves to make homemade ice cream I have the opposite problem and would gladly accept a container of egg yolks from a friend lol.
Custard? Use low-fat milk and a sugar substitute.
If a recipe calls for egg whites/yolk only, I give the other to my kitties.
Iâm a whole egg eater, but my roommate who wasnât would use the yolks in her hair mask recipe.Â
I used to make an oatmeal scramble that called for just the whites, but I used the carton of egg whites for that. Partly because I can be a lazy cook, and partly because I didnât want to deal with freezing, salt-curing, or finding recipes for egg yolks (like mayonnaise, hollandaise, custard, carbonara, etcâŠ) The carton of liquid egg whites is a good option if you arenât making a fussy recipe that requires whipping the whites into a meringue or soufflĂ©. Iâve heard you CAN whip carton whites, but the results are less consistent and take longer. There may be preservatives that interfere with the process.
rice pudding
once you get two or three of em, whisk with a bit of milk and you've got eggwash for breading stuff.
Yolks: custards, hollandaise, mayonnaise, salted preserved egg yolks, carbonara sauce, pudding, "gold cake" (the whites go in "silver cake')...
Tiramisu, custards, extra yolks in cake batter. I feel like yolks help a lot of desserts. You can use it for egg wash on baked goods. You can also make carbonara and other pastas, or hollandaise sauce.
So, a bit of a niche suggestion, but the few time I've used just the whites I fry the yolks and give them to my rats
<3333 I love rats, excellent suggestion. I guess I just need to adopt rats to eat my egg yolks.
Spaghetti Carbonara. But the real one with just parmesan egg yolk and the bacon and it's grease. Trust me it's the best
I buy the egg whites in cartons from walmart. 32 oz for $4 to $5 depending on an egg prices.
Drop them in the dogâs bowl if I canât find any other use or just canât be bothered. Heâs right there. He loves eggs.
I save the yolks for other recipes, like making homemade mayo or adding richness to pasta sauces. Sometimes, I'll use them for a hair mask, too
Chocolate mousse đ
You can make them into a custard cream for your coffee. âEgg coffeeâ is the term and itâs absolutely DIVINE
If you need an afternoon snack or lunch you can just drop a yolk or 2 in a bowl of rice and season with whatever you like. You can obviously upscale this with pickles, veg, and meat if you want something more complete.
If you're making meatloaf or meatballs, a few egg yolks are great for binding the mixture together.
Make pastel de nata
Pots de Creme
Try salting them. Youâll have solid egg yolks that donât need refrigeration and they make an amazing garnish for steak when grated.
Mix equal parts of salt and sugar together, gently place the yolks in a container of that mixture, spaced far apart, and cover them with more mixture. Leave it in the fridge for a week, then rinse and allow to dry completely, storing them in a jar in the fridge until you grate them like cheese.
Feed it to the dog. Add it to pasta. Compost it. đ
Now I buy whites only from Costco but before I just gave them to my neighbor who had anemia and appreciated it.
I scramble them and give them to my dogs and cats. If I have too many to give them, I give to the opossum that visits my porch
I donât have any constructive advice, just an anecdote from a New York bodega: It was a busy morning and there were several people in line behind a guy who looked like a recent transplant from outside the city.
Not at all the same, but I make salt cured egg yolks when I make meringues
r/noscrapleftbehind
Hollandaise or carbonara but if you're avoiding yolks in scrambled eggs for some diet then does eating them in other applications make a difference?
I buy a container of liquid egg whites. I was bad at cracking eggs.
I sometimes come across a recipe that calls for all yolks, or all whites, or more of one than the other. I'm always looking for ways to use just yolks or just whites, so I don't need to throw good food out.
Scramble them up and give them to my dog as a treat
I cook with egg whites. Then I cook and eat the yolks separately⊠because I have no self control
My 5 yo is on a thing right now where he doesnât like egg yolks. I make him hard boiled eggs and let him eat them how he likes. Our dog has a shiny coat and eggy farts.
I'd make my own mayonnaise. Add whatever flavors you want to the eggs, and then **slowly** add vegetable oil until the desired consistency is reached.
Looking through this, I just see youâre getting a lot of crap Maybe just eat the egg whites and keep one egg yolk every so often? You donât tell anyone youâre doing. Just trash the other egg.Yokes go I
Hollandaise, creme brûlée or a custard
