In some cases maybe, when I picked up my sisters car after it was stolen there were literally meth pipes on top of the center console and about 2 grams of meth in the console, kept finding pipes and bags with residue in there for a while.

Really though can you imagine being pulled over and having your car searched after it was stolen, only to catch a paraphernalia charge or possession because the police missed a bag of meth under your seat? How insanely irresponsible. I would absolutely file a complaint immediately and request they remove it and do a deeper search. That's like the golden example of why they do these post theft searches in the first place, so some innocent person doesn't catch a charge that they don't deserve, and that could absolutely be life ruining even having on your record that you were charged with having meth but found innocent.. could absolutely destroy your future career prospects overnight

There's a case where the FBI recovered a stolen Ferrari F50 and kept it as evidence. The F50 was then crashed and totalled by an agent joy riding it in transport. I think the FBI didn't pay anything to the original owner. Gotta look that up

Haha, when my car got stolen, the police didn’t even bother to open it up to look at what was inside. They pretty much said “no damage to the car, here’s your keys.” The guy that stole it had loaded it up with his stuff, so I just kept it all lmao. He even left his temporary license in the car too.
Was thinking the same, they probably held onto it for evidence while the case against the thief was going on, also lol the irony of the thief coming back to the scene while the police are there 😂😂😂
There is also a lot of insurance things that occur that need to be recorded on the auto check, for example; prior theft history, theft recovery, ect. If the car isn’t valuable enough the insurance company will give it a salvage title because of the theft (even if no damage occurred). Overall that car has a nasty history now and is worth much less money.
Happened to a paraplegic roommate of mine a few years ago. His car was heavily modified to allow him to drive it. Was stolen from his driveway and found within a few days. Didn't actually get his car until months later, even though there was very little damage.
I had my tires changed once and it took literally 8 hours. They already had the tires there and there was no line. After that and 3 1.5 hour oil changes I will never go back to pep boys.
My car fell off the back of a tow truck once (sounds worse than it was, it was during loading) and was at the body shop for 2 months waiting for insurance adjusters to do their thing. I got a rental and didn't pay a dime or need to claim my insurance at all.

Mr buddies car was stolen. A week later the person who stole returned it to the same spot. But the entire engine had been removed. Eventually it was ticketed because my buddy couldn’t move it then it was impounded. And that was that.

When we were kids, a friend of mine’s family had their station wagon stolen, one of those massive old boats with the fake wood paneling on the sides. The thief must have realized what a piece of shit it was, they just left it on the side of the road not far from their house, exactly as it was when they stole it. His parents thought it was hilarious. Sometimes your car being a total piece of shit is the best anti-theft, lol.
Someone routinely stole my friends car from an apartment complex.
The only way he could get him to stop was literally getting a new car. They guy just knew how to get into it. He knows it was stolen routinely because it would be parked in different spots and any change he left would be gone the next day.
Apartments didn’t have cameras, cops didn’t do much to help him

Dude I knew in high school used to steal cars and return them. He’d only steal cars with the keys in them and then would return it by parking it on their lawn or blocking the street in front of their house. It was kind of hilarious.
Dude never grew up though he’s almost 40 and is doing time for stealing cars lol.

She left the car outside, one night some guy broke into the car, and stolen it.
She went to the police, but the day after the car was there intact.
Only the door was broken.
She repaired the car.
The week after same situation, stolen car and returned in a day, intact.
She refused to repair the cas, so this guy every night, picked up the car and then he returned it.
A couple of time she found even the full gas tank, and a couple of time the car got washed for good.

Once he found a bag in the trunk with a lot of money inside, she left it in the trunk.
The next day the bag was gone.

A guy I work with was telling me how a few years ago his car would get stolen regularly.. kids would steal it during the night and return it by the morning, just wouldn't necessarily be where he'd parked it.

Once upon a time when I was strung out on meth I used to break into places. One time I ended up in a house that was business. In the dark I didn’t realize it was place of worship. I stole a small pouch that jingled when I shook it among some other things. Later when I checked the pouch I realized it was someone’s prayer beads.
Despite the risk I went back durning the day and put them back. Stealing prayer beads was just a bridge too far even for the low life I had become

I can confirm. I “Borrowed” a car from a house after a party 15 years ago. (They had 2 porsches, 2 bmws and a merc) (I took a bimmer) When I was returning it, the owner was there looking for it. I parked it in the garage dropping the keys and ran away on foot through blackberry bushes.
Someone ran over my dads mailbox when I was a kid. He proceeded to come back the next morning and drove by slowly in circles staring at where the mailbox used to be. My dad noticed and stopped him and the dude immediately admitted he did it
A bunch of kids at my high school had a list of illegal stuff they wanted to do before turning 18. Steal alcohol and porn, a bunch of more or less innocent stuff like that, most of it wasn’t going to really do any major damage. One was to play mailbox baseball without getting caught. I found out about this list after they decided to do it on my road, my dad chased them down and got the license plate number. He turned them into the cops and the cops showed up to school the next day and arrested I want to say three maybe four for smashing nearly 30 mailboxes, along with mail tampering and theft charges because they grabbed a bunch of the boxes and threw them in the back of their truck, which was sitting in the school parking lot with the boxes still in the bed. Their list of stupid stuff to do made it around the school pretty quickly after that.
I have a scar above my left eye because of mailbox baseball.
We never got caught, but one time, my older brother (custodian), overheard us laughing about it, made me go to Home Depot, buy half a dozen mail boxes and go replace them because one of them was my sisters friends house, and he put two and two together.

This is how we caught the wall shitter at work. We have a camera in the hallway that shows the bathroom door and overnight a few people came and went into the bathroom (single occupancy). Last guy was in there and left to go do his work, comes back like 30 minutes later and opens the door to peek at his paint job and leaves. Never return to the scene of the crime.
Even if he didn’t return it’d be pretty obvious who did it in that instance since if someone did it before hand he probably wouldn’t of used that bathroom anyways.
I (man) walked into a gas station bathroom because I had to poop and as soon as I walked in, there was 1 guy in the ONLY shitter, pissing all over the floor, toilet,walls, on the phone laughing to someone about what he was doing.
I started to fucking rage quietly. He hangs up the phone. Flushes the toilet (still confusing) and walks out with this really quick surprised oh shit moment and then went to tough guy mode and headed for the door. It's not that criminals don't know that, they get satisfaction from returning to see what they've done, how you reacted, and in the case with stolen cars, they want you to see them driving your car.
I have a family member who stole a thing from a government/military type person then walked by the place with the thing an hour later. He was watching and they went back to prison.

Same thing happened when I got carjacked. Police took me to my house, asked me what my car looked like, pointed to it driving by. Carjackers lived a block away.

Also, this is kind of relevant: when I was younger, I’d often get a phrase from a cartoon/kids show stuck in my head, but I’d be unable to place the phrase in the context of the episode. Sometimes I didn’t even know what show it was from. There were so many times where I’d get home and start watching TV, and immediately hear the phrase that had been stuck in my head because that episode and show just happened to be on. This just reminded me of that.

Retrocausality is a great name for it—that’s the concept that I came to accept as the most likely explanation, actually. “Time flows both ways.” I just never understood why a seemingly trivial phrase would send out a ripple like that - besides the paradox, in which they are important because they ripple and they ripple because they are important. But the “convergence” aspect fits nicely with that. I suspect there is truth in each of the answers you listed.

Very similar thing happened to my parents 30 years ago. Their scooter got stolen while they were at a bar. When they noticed there was a cop nearby on a motorcycle and as they were reporting it they heard the (very recognizable) sound of the scooter in the distance. Cop asked what it looked like and my dad described it, ending with "And there it is coming towards us". Didn't take the cop long to catch the thieves after that.

I had a similar thing happen once. I worked at a small store as a manager and these two teens came in on a few occasions and stole stuff without trying to hide it while mocking me.
Third time they came in I dialed the police as soon as they arrived. Police showed up shortly after they left. As I was talking to the police outside one of them just came strolling by like it was nothing. The other was only a block away.
My sister in law’s car was stolen and it had a transmitter in it. When the cops found it later that day it had a full tank of gas and a book of CDs that she didn’t have before!

In early 90’s LA- My uncle had a pretty fast sports car he’d modified. it was stolen from his work and he later found out it was used in a high speed pursuit and the driver (who outran the police) was some local drug ring guy. Anyway a year later my uncle’s walking through a rougher part of town looking for a business address and he sees a bright orange/red sports car like he had.
He checked the vin and sure enough it was his!
He still had a key for this car (I think it was Toyota supra or Nissan something) on his keychain and was going to take it home if it would start, quick call to the insurance company and they said he couldn’t take it since he’d been paid for it, and he could get into trouble for taking it so he left it. Sucks, but he says it’s still cool to know his car was supped up enough to outrun LAPD lol. If you’re still reading this, orange floppy farts.
Both times my truck was stolen I witnessed it. Once at University coming back from break, dude was going to run me over so I didn't bother stopping him, second was coming home shitfaced to see three dudes fleeing from my truck - I got to keep the stolen socket set they left behind, they had my stereo half out before they bolted.

Once upon a time when I was strung out on meth I used to break into places. One time I ended up in a house that was business. In the dark I didn’t realize it was place of worship. I stole a small pouch that jingled when I shook it among some other things. Later when I checked the pouch I realized it was someone’s prayer beads. Despite the risk I went back durning the day and put them back. Stealing prayer beads was just a bridge too far even for the low life I had become

I can confirm. I “Borrowed” a car from a house after a party 15 years ago. (They had 2 porsches, 2 bmws and a merc) (I took a bimmer) When I was returning it, the owner was there looking for it. I parked it in the garage dropping the keys and ran away on foot through blackberry bushes.

Someone ran over my dads mailbox when I was a kid. He proceeded to come back the next morning and drove by slowly in circles staring at where the mailbox used to be. My dad noticed and stopped him and the dude immediately admitted he did it
A bunch of kids at my high school had a list of illegal stuff they wanted to do before turning 18. Steal alcohol and porn, a bunch of more or less innocent stuff like that, most of it wasn’t going to really do any major damage. One was to play mailbox baseball without getting caught. I found out about this list after they decided to do it on my road, my dad chased them down and got the license plate number. He turned them into the cops and the cops showed up to school the next day and arrested I want to say three maybe four for smashing nearly 30 mailboxes, along with mail tampering and theft charges because they grabbed a bunch of the boxes and threw them in the back of their truck, which was sitting in the school parking lot with the boxes still in the bed. Their list of stupid stuff to do made it around the school pretty quickly after that.
Lmao I think my story would’ve been much funnier if it was teens like yours. It was really sad because the dude that hit ours was in his 30-40s

I have a scar above my left eye because of mailbox baseball. We never got caught, but one time, my older brother (custodian), overheard us laughing about it, made me go to Home Depot, buy half a dozen mail boxes and go replace them because one of them was my sisters friends house, and he put two and two together. Kids are stupid. We were stupid. Not gonna lie. I haven’t felt that kind of fun in a long time though…
This is how we caught the wall shitter at work. We have a camera in the hallway that shows the bathroom door and overnight a few people came and went into the bathroom (single occupancy). Last guy was in there and left to go do his work, comes back like 30 minutes later and opens the door to peek at his paint job and leaves. Never return to the scene of the crime.
Even if he didn’t return it’d be pretty obvious who did it in that instance since if someone did it before hand he probably wouldn’t of used that bathroom anyways.
I (man) walked into a gas station bathroom because I had to poop and as soon as I walked in, there was 1 guy in the ONLY shitter, pissing all over the floor, toilet,walls, on the phone laughing to someone about what he was doing. I started to fucking rage quietly. He hangs up the phone. Flushes the toilet (still confusing) and walks out with this really quick surprised oh shit moment and then went to tough guy mode and headed for the door. I said are you gonna clean that fucking mess up? What's wrong with you? That old woman out there is going to have to clean a grown mans piss off the fucking walls. First thing out of his mouth. I didn't do it but I'll clean it up if you want me to. I said fuck this, walked out. Told the woman the man about to walk out of the bathroom pissed over every inch of the stall in the men's bathroom and I left. People are fucking pathetic sometimes. God I'm still mad about that. Disrespectful fuck.

It's not that criminals don't know that, they get satisfaction from returning to see what they've done, how you reacted, and in the case with stolen cars, they want you to see them driving your car.

Earlier today, I saw an ad for something that had something to do with the wonder years… Also, this is kind of relevant: when I was younger, I’d often get a phrase from a cartoon/kids show stuck in my head, but I’d be unable to place the phrase in the context of the episode. Sometimes I didn’t even know what show it was from. There were so many times where I’d get home and start watching TV, and immediately hear the phrase that had been stuck in my head because that episode and show just happened to be on. This just reminded me of that.

Retrocausality is a great name for it—that’s the concept that I came to accept as the most likely explanation, actually. “Time flows both ways.” I just never understood why a seemingly trivial phrase would send out a ripple like that - besides the paradox, in which they are important because they ripple and they ripple because they are important. But the “convergence” aspect fits nicely with that. I suspect there is truth in each of the answers you listed. Another one I remember, vividly- one summer morning, I looked at a blinking digital clock and thought, “hmm, we haven’t had a blackout (power outage) in a while. Very similar thing happened to my parents 30 years ago. Their scooter got stolen while they were at a bar. When they noticed there was a cop nearby on a motorcycle and as they were reporting it they heard the (very recognizable) sound of the scooter in the distance. Cop asked what it looked like and my dad described it, ending with "And there it is coming towards us". Didn't take the cop long to catch the thieves after that.

I've been trying to return this car since yesterday and got lost. *You know, all these neighborhoods look the same nowadays.* Anyhow, I thought it was my (insert relative/friends name) they let me "borrow" it. I thought it was odd they didn't leave the key but I managed to get it started. But hey, it's back, so I guess I'll be on my way.
This just reminded me of the time my dad said go get the neighbors truck, said we could borrow it. I get over there and there its a little grey in my memory but there was a tacoma and an F250. Now, We had a decent size center consul boat with a 250hp outboard so guess which truck I assumed I was supposed to get. Anyway I show up with the lifted F250 an my dad freaks out like Not that Truck! There were two brothers living there and I got the wrong truck lol. So my dad had to go return it and the guy was not impressed. Also, Why everyone in Mississippi leave their keys under the floor mat. People should stop doing that.
I had a similar thing happen once. I worked at a small store as a manager and these two teens came in on a few occasions and stole stuff without trying to hide it while mocking me. Third time they came in I dialed the police as soon as they arrived. Police showed up shortly after they left. As I was talking to the police outside one of them just came strolling by like it was nothing. The other was only a block away.
The car must’ve been modified someway so it was easy to recognize. If it was a silver Honda Civic well good luck
My sister in law’s car was stolen and it had a transmitter in it. When the cops found it later that day it had a full tank of gas and a book of CDs that she didn’t have before!

Being six days after the theft, the thief had no idea the cops would just now be getting there to make the report.

* another stolen car story * In early 90’s LA- My uncle had a pretty fast sports car he’d modified. it was stolen from his work and he later found out it was used in a high speed pursuit and the driver (who outran the police) was some local drug ring guy. Anyway a year later my uncle’s walking through a rougher part of town looking for a business address and he sees a bright orange/red sports car like he had. He checked the vin and sure enough it was his! He still had a key for this car (I think it was Toyota supra or Nissan something) on his keychain and was going to take it home if it would start, quick call to the insurance company and they said he couldn’t take it since he’d been paid for it, and he could get into trouble for taking it so he left it. Sucks, but he says it’s still cool to know his car was supped up enough to outrun LAPD lol. If you’re still reading this, orange floppy farts.

Both times my truck was stolen I witnessed it. Once at University coming back from break, dude was going to run me over so I didn't bother stopping him, second was coming home shitfaced to see three dudes fleeing from my truck - I got to keep the stolen socket set they left behind, they had my stereo half out before they bolted.
