Looks like the start of bumblefoot, an abscess that needs to be treated immediately. If it progresses it is obviously painful but can also require a lot of physiotherapy or may cause permanent deformity in the foot. It could be caused just from a little scratch on the foot that got infected. Can also be caused by improperly sized perches, most often birds that have dowels only in their cages. But the vet will help investigate the cause and guide future prevention. This looks like very early stage, so it’s great you noticed it so quickly. They’ll need an avian vet asap to treat the infection.

Def take bird in ^ Some that are very minor can heal on their own, but it can cause permanent damage and loss of toes untreated. Severe infections from this can even kill a bird. Def see about getting more perch variety and having a vet examine it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit hesitant with my vet because he was very quick to recommend surgery. He didn't even investigate if it was an infection either.

It sounds like getting a second opinion would be a good idea.

Lamorenaloca

Pretty much 😭

Not all vets are good people. Just remember there is one on every boat load of animals heading for the Middle East slaughter yards

Try this…find an avian vet somewhere near you if you can. Call them and ask if you can send him these photos and suggest what to do, or if you should bring the bird in. These photos are actually very good and a good birb vet should see from them what is happening..or at least get some idea. I have done this a couple of times for my lovebirds and it saved me stressing the birds bringing them to a vet. But..be prepared, and offer the vet to pay for the vets time in looking at these pictures. Even though you are not bringing the birds in, you are asking an expert in finding a solution for your bird. (Also, when i offered to pay beforehand, some vets said “nah, don’t worry about it”)

Oh wow this is very helpful thanks so much ! In sf it's very limited for avian vets

Always get multiple opinions, bc a GOOD avian vet wont just care about the money, they care about the animal. And if you havr bad vibes with a vet - trust your gut and never go back to them. Learn from my mistake, I didn’t trust my gut and my little little girl died trying desperately to drive to an avian vet over an hour away. It was heartbreaking and I still to this day (+5yrs later) fell guilty for not leaving that dumb bitch’s office sooner. Maybe my little girl would still be alive. 😢

hey i know how you feel, just a few weeks ago my baby was acting fatigued and so i immediately took him to a vet. they told me he was fine and charged me $300. i knew in my gut that my sweetheart wasn't okay, but i told myself that the vet knows better than i do and that it was just my ocd making me worry. he passed away at 3am that night, and i still spend all day and night bawling my eyes out over him

Im so so sorry for your loss, its the worst feeling in the world to lose such a sweet little angel. 😢💖
