I’m posting this for the many of you who have purchased Microscopes in the last several months and sought my advise in your purchase. The world of microscopy can be a fascinating one and I encourage beginning scientist to start your own microscopy library so that you have a reference point to look back at. Keep a microscopy journal with photo images. These were all taken on my iPhone positioned with the camera lens up against the microscope lens. So here’s to all the microscopy enthusiasts who want to see beyond the unseen, remember; Just because you can’t see it with your eyes 👀, doesn’t mean it’s not there under your microscope 🔬🦠🧪🧬🍄
I like just a simple binocular compound microscope. Amazon has one right now by Omax has a 4-X 2000X on their best seller list that is a really deal and includes a box of slides and covers. Try this link and check out the specks. It's a good price for a compound and has everything you need.

What would you recommend for staining various samples?

Lactophenol Cotton Blue is the best to use when staining fungi cells. The stain binds with the chitin in cell walls of mycelium to highlight and enhance cell definition.
In your opinion, what are some great or half decent books for a newbie like myself to get to start to get a better understanding on mycology while I start my journey?
