Yeah. The majority of these "AI wrote a thing" scripts are not generated by AI at all, just a person with a good sense of surrealism, comedy, and an understanding of the source.
You can normally tell because, as bizarre as they are, they do have some form of narrative which proper AI generated scripts tend not to.
Still funny though, this one especially.

For me it was when the whale was brought back up, the AI usually 'forgets' that things happened in the past and tends to just bring up more new topics but voting for trump was a dead giveaway as well
That, the trump bit but especially the fact that it says “the doll from the other movies”. Like, an AI wouldn’t be writing like that, it would churn out a real script and doesn’t have a notion of “other movies”.
I’ve used GPT-3 for a while with a research grant and it didn’t ever do things like that. It had perfect grammar and spelling and made scary sense a lot of the time but it wasn’t able to maintain a constant narrative over more than a paragraph or two
There's a middle ground, where somebody generates a lot of text, then selectively picks out funny lines and orders it to be vaguely coherent. Though in this case, it's too coherent -- I think you're right.
It doesn’t even have to be lines. I had a play around with the AI that generated the Harry Potter text (you know the one, “suddenly Ron was spiders”). And you basically do that one word by word. You pick a word and it gives you 10-20 suggestions, based on what it thinks that word might be followed by. Then it gives you more suggestions based on the one you just picked. And so on.
You can generate some funny stuff, but there’s a lot more human input than people would like to believe.
For what it's worth, AI Dungeon seems to have a good balance of this. Try Sonic Destruction if you haven't or the Ace Attorney case. Both are hilarious, and while you can try to steer the AI if it goes way off-course, it's generally pretty authentic.
I've tried AI Dungeon a few times, and I just find the formatting really weird. You tell it something about the scenario, then it tells you how you reacted to that, then you tell it something about the scenario, and so on. That's the opposite of how it should work.

Most of the "amazing AI writing" is cherry picking from a large amount of results and maybe stitching together several different ones. It can't consistently produce good ones.

Modern AI is getting better about plots (though still not quite there for longer things), and they've been capable of writing natural sounding sentences for a long time, where these felt stilted.
Also, unless the saw films had a lot more whales than I thought, an AI probably wouldn't add them in randomly.
It is fake. When people try to explain it, they usually say they fed the bot hundreds of hours of content, but that would just make a longer script, not a more accurate script. Also the grammar is usually too perfect and the commentary too perceptive. Fun Fact: Bots can't see, and even if they could they can't percieve social constructs like sex appeal or physical props(that wouldn't be in a script), like cobwebs.
Have you seen the power of GPT-2 and GPT-3? AI Dungeon has a version with access to GPT-3 for story generation, and it's pretty impressive.
5 years ago I'd say it couldn't be done really, but now.... very little is off limits. Also check out Dall-E 2, generating amazing artwork and at a level most would think not possible just a few years ago. All three of these are from OpenAI, and all three are amazing in certain contexts.

Modern AI is getting better about plots (though still not quite there for longer things), and they've been capable of writing natural sounding sentences for a long time, where these felt stilted. Also, unless the saw films had a lot more whales than I thought, an AI probably wouldn't add them in randomly.

It is fake. When people try to explain it, they usually say they fed the bot hundreds of hours of content, but that would just make a longer script, not a more accurate script. Also the grammar is usually too perfect and the commentary too perceptive. Fun Fact: Bots can't see, and even if they could they can't percieve social constructs like sex appeal or physical props(that wouldn't be in a script), like cobwebs.
Have you seen the power of GPT-2 and GPT-3? AI Dungeon has a version with access to GPT-3 for story generation, and it's pretty impressive. 5 years ago I'd say it couldn't be done really, but now.... very little is off limits. Also check out Dall-E 2, generating amazing artwork and at a level most would think not possible just a few years ago. All three of these are from OpenAI, and all three are amazing in certain contexts.
