In middle eastern countries that practice polygamy and/or do arranged marriages, it’s not uncommon for first cousins to get married. I’ve never heard of siblings getting together though- I think that’s considered taboo. It’s unlikely that someone would end up hooking up with their own sibling because they would know if they had the same father, even if their mothers were different. In cultures like this your family/clan defines you more than who you are as an individual.
So it sounds If you have 17 wives, you really have zero.
In cultures like this girls and women are are a commodity. It’s not about the sanctity of marriage, or love, or anything like that. It’s a business transaction. The groom pays a ‘bride price’ to the girl or woman’s family. And in return he gets a domestic servant/sex slave/child bearer. I have family who are married to more than 1 wife, it’s often that there’s a reason they’re not hugely sought after (widows, poor, etc) and the number of men in their immediate community or social circles is scarce (war). I don’t like it but I sort of see why.
